This place really does a good job at maximizing such little space. My friend and I were here for an album release party and the service was incredible despite there being a ton of people. The bartenders knew I didn't drink from my first "make me a mocktail of your choice" -- a woman made me the most delicious lavender mocktail. From then on, she kept the NA Karbach beers coming and we had wonderful conversation even though we were yelling at each other. The food was decent, too, as my friend shared his loaded fries with me. The outside area is really nice. Pretty much no lumbar support available but it had great seating. I'm glad there was a bouncer as a lot of young folks and drunkards alike were trying to get in but were rejected. The record store was insane! So cool to see all of my favorite artists in one spot (I'm getting old, haha). The staff, again, were super nice. I'm ready to go back for another release! read more

Nice weird little Austin bar. Hubs and I came here for a friend's birthday party. There's plenty of space and the seating outside was nice for a warm night in the springtime. So it's called Drinks Lunge & Records because there is a vinyl shop attached! Go in and peruse the selections. The DJ was great, the music flowed and vibes were lovely. It's dimly lit with dancing lights and fantastic sounds. Do yourself a favor and get a cocktail and some totchos. The potatoes were so good. I still think about them every now and again. I'm told the burgers were well cooked and the wings are tasty, but that's just secondhand information. Service is nice! Hands down one of my top 5 places to be. This place is so freaking bad ass and we're lucky to live so close! I love being able to pop into their little record store to shop for vinyl whilst having a cocktail. Speaking of cocktails, they have some of the best drinks I've ever had in my life. The soundtrack is always spot on. Such a groovy place to chill and relax. Food is yummy bar fare and they even have eggs on the menu for dogs (mine loves this). Service is superb. Came here during a layover from Tulum a few months ago. Typical bar food offered very inexpensive. I basically had to beg for service and the service I received was not very welcoming at all. The bartender seemed to only want to serve her regulars so I was continuously ignored. It was weird. read more

I love Drinks Lounge! Bartenders are so friendly and kind, they have a great assortment of drinks at relatively reasonable prices, they play FANTASTIC music, great food, and tons of seating. There are cool dive bars and there are uncool dive bars. This is the latter. It's dark. You have to weave your way between pool tables to get to the bar. It took the waitress several minutes to pry herself away from her conversation with the only other group in the place and take my order. Which wouldn't have been a deal-breaker, if the drinks were cheap and strong, as you would expect from a dive bar. But my Margarita was $13 - pretty much the standard price in Austin. And it was awful. As far as my tastebuds could tell, it was made with sour mix, not lime juice. And it was served in a big soda glass, full of ice, to fool you into thinking you were getting a lot. This place's aesthetic is really cool, tall leather booths, funky chandeliers, pool tables and an awesome outdoor area. The bartender was super friendly to everyone and had interesting conversation. I had the frozen cherry limeade and it was great, the loaded cheese fries though...those were absolutely incredible. I usually shy away from cheese fries because of how soggy they can get but my fries were so crispy, had a bomb queso on it with bacon and jalapeños. Their front patio is a good size, with a few fans blowing and turf instead of concrete which was a nice change. I love being on the East Side more these days and I would definitely add this to my list of go-to places! read more

I grew up in the midwest and I've eaten wings in Buffalo, NY. This place HANDS.DOWN. is the winner. Some places have bigger wings, but those are just genetically modified bs, cheap, steroid wings. Fun atmosphere for a chill night out. My group and I went there for tacos and they were great! We also got nachos and burgers and they were all really great. There's a new record store off to the side which is a great addition to the place. The place is dog friendly and they also have an outdoor patio. Drinks Lounge is the kind of place you want to go to when you just wanna hang with your friends, maybe get together to play Geeks Who Drink (on Monday nights), and/or shoot some pool (free on Tuesdays/ day & night!) while sipping on some fancy & tasty (and cheap!) specialty cocktails. It's a place I like to go when I am trying to avoid anything 6th street (yes, even East 6th) and/or the usual weekend drinking crowds. Okay, okay - let's say you did go to Dirty 6th or East 6th or Rainey or Hole in the Wall or even the Brixton or Shangri La (both of those last 2 are sister bars to Drinks Lounge, btw) on the weekend and here we are on Sunday mid-afternoon with a hangover. That's fine!! I learned, via the Drinks Instagram, that there are cartoons, mimosas, bloody mary's, sugary cereal, and pancakes (Bulliet bourbon! WHAAAT?!) on Sundays for their "Dirty Drunk Sunday"! No excuse to not go to Drinks and bring your friends as you all share Saturday night drunkenness memories & load up on some pancakes that will settle that hangover. My favorite thing about the bar besides the rotating draft selections of beer? The outlets located underneath the bar top! Plug in that iphone 6 or macbook and get to working / trolling / instagramming pics of your cocktails. It's all the good things about dive bars (a little dark, staff who know you, welcoming) without the bad (sticky floors, smoke, and crotchety staff). The food, while limited in selection, is fabulous and fast! Drinks - Hands down, the Ruby Rita (Deep Eddy Ruby Red vodka and who knows what...) with a spicy Tajin rim. I'm not a "fruity" cocktail guy but this is always on my list. Food - The pancake sliders on Sunday brunch are TO DIE FOR. Perfectly moist pancakes around sausage and cheese. Also, the tots are amazing. I'll also throw in... they are super good people who help raise funds for important community causes. Oh, and COVID... they keep it friendly and super safe. I used to live in Austin and loved coming to this bar for a good drink made by delicious people. Or was it delicious drinks and good people? Either way, I came back and decided to try out their food for dinner tonight. We used a delivery service and it was perfect. I was worried the totchos would reach that soggy point of no return by the time it came because of the toppings but they packaged everything with travel in mind. We tried the totchos, loaded fries, wings, and black bean and avocado tacos. All delicious and easily fed 4 people. All I hated was that I wasn't able to tip the staff! I had an extremely bad encounter at this bar, mainly in reference to the bartender Emily. We were a group of 6 and when my husband closed out his and my tab, he didn't leave a tip on the credit card receipt. I like to leave cash tips and I prefer to give them when them I'm leaving an establishment. So my husband comes to sit back down at the table to carry on in conversation and Emily comes over to the table and in front of everyone says, "oh I'm sorry, was the service bad, was the food bad, were the drinks bad?" As my husband says no to all of the questions, Emily responds, "oh I'm just making sure because people usually tip when they've received good service and don't have any complaints." First of all, I served in the service industry for 6+ years and I would NEVER approach anyone like that about a tip. Secondly, if you felt that strongly, you could've easily pulled my husband to the side and asked him if there was an issue. Do you know how embarrassing and demeaning it is to be asked in front of your peers why you didn't leave a tip?!? I confronted Emily very respectfully about why she chose to do that. I even told her that I planned to leave a cash tip on the table, but she responded with a very dismissive answer about how that's what they do and it was no problem that she did it. I'm sorry but an establishment should never be okay with workers approaching people about not giving a tip. So I sat back down but I was still offended by her attitude, so I walked up to her again and respectfully asked to speak with a manager. She then told me that she was the manager and when I continued to explain how embarrassing that was, she gave me nothing but attitude and dismissed me again. I then spoke to a male worker at the bar and he sided with her. I was so frustrated that no one I spoke to at this bar saw a problem with what she did. It wasn't until I began to cry that his tone lowered and told me he was sorry that I was embarrassed. But why did it take me crying to get some reasonable customer service? And as I was crying near Emily, she never looked my way, never apologized, and my frustrations didn't phase her not one bit!! First evening in Austin and we found this charming, dog friendly neighborhood bar! The blue exterior color is eclectically cute! We were immediately greeted by fellow Yelper and patron Chris's super handsome pit bull in the patio area. Fell in love! The front patio is very open and inviting. The interior is a creative fun garage conversion- just an awesome hangout. The bartender was super cute and friendly! She was right, they have awesome wings and tots! The wings were super crispy! Crunchy outside and tender inside! Yummy! The tots were a golden, crispy and simply amazing! It was a perfect starter. We hung out for awhile and people watched. I was whirling through East Caesar Chavez one night and decided to hit up this bar. It was OK. It was pretty much dead (during SXSW), which I thought was odd. I did run into a new friend I had met the day before at La Perla, so it definitely seemed like a place the neighborhood locals hit up. Drinks Lounge is literally exactly what it sounds like .... a place to chill and get a drink. We got a round of shots. Sunday Brunch Review: On Easter Sunday we decided to attend the Secret Taco Brunch! The decor is old lounge style furniture and I like that this isn't one of those places that tries to use posh furniture to mask what they are lacking. The open front wall give this place an open feel but, still feels intimate and I love the front deck! The one warning I would give is to pay attention to where you are parking on the street because some areas are parking by permit only in this neighborhood! I took advantage of the make your own bloody mary bar and it's a well stocked one! They serve Bloody Revolution Bloody Mary Mix and if you haven't tried it yet, you should! They had everything you could ever want in a bloody mary such as horseradish, celery, bacon bits, massive hot sauce variety, olives, etc. all laid out in a nice user friendly way! I feel like this is a reason to come back in itself! If you haven't been to the Secret Taco Brunch I would recommend coming here on a day that is happening. The gentleman who makes the tacos is equally as awesome as his tacos! I recommend the ham taco and definitely add some of his homemade salsa to it! For the tl;dr crowd: Great space to lounge. Ample parking on street and adjacent neighborhood. Drinks hasn't had its official grand opening yet, but they just had their soft opening under a week ago. I've wanted to drop by and check it out, as I've followed the progress the owners made on the building with great interest. So last night, I finally stepped inside, and I was mightily impressed. Cheerfully greeted by the bartender/owner, I was very pleased to see Karbach being offered on tap, as well as a couple local beers. They also had Lone Star in cans if that's your thing. They had a variety of liquor on display, so they're capable of being a full-on cocktail bar if that's your thing -- I'll definitely come back just for cocktails some time. The space itself is the gem -- big nice wrap-around bar offers you a view of everyone sitting at the bar, so it will be great for large groups or the regulars who will hopefully make this place a weekly stop. There is a little side area with 2 pool tables, and ample seating in the form of multiple high-backed booths (the most comfortable I've ever sat in -- I spent time checking each one to find my favorite. If you need to know, it's the Freddy Mercury booth). There is an area in the middle with little tables and chairs for smaller groups. It's all very inviting, and welcoming, and rather than some bars that feel like they want you to hurry up and leave, this really embodies the concept of "lounge". I can definitely see myself parked at a booth with a book, or sitting with friends, for hours. For the smokers amongst us -- or those people who like the sun -- there are picnic tables right out front. Parking is ample and can be found on side streets. I spoke with the bartender/owner and she said the city said people can parallel park out front along Cesar Chavez, so that's good to know for future visits. I feel quite positive about Drinks, and I will add it to my regular rotation. * I changed this from 4 to 5 starts because of the recent addition of power strips at the bar to recharge your electronic devices while you drink, and to reflect the fact the guys restroom has a separate room for the toilet -- 5 star review for a 5 star joint! read more
