I've been going to bender bar for a while now, and although I do think it's a fun place to drink a few experiences have upset me lately. First of all they don't have ANY prices for drinks or food anywhere, and they claim to be a cheap dive bar, craft beer drafts will run you 8$+ and the food is not cheap. This is a great place to come for a cheap drink and play some arcade games. I absolutely love coming here to play pinball. They do a good job of keeping up with the machines. This is the ultimate dive bar. Cheap drinks, fried bar food and dimly lit 20 year old decor. The parking lot is big in a strip mall, there's an outdoor area to smoke but it's nothing fancy. Old picnic tables and it's fenced in at the back . Lots of regulars and friendly atmosphere. Ordering food can be slow and the bartenders seem annoyed if you don't know what you want or ordering food. Bellying up at the bar is the best place to sit to get service. My friend ordered and I think her order got lost by a high cook. I ordered 5 minutes after she did and got my order in 15-20 minutes. I was almost done eating when someone finally noticed she didn't have her food. Apologized but that was the extent of it. As long as you're not expecting quick service and tasty food, you're good for getting a cheap strong drink and jukebox music. read more

Bender has been my neighborhood pub for over a decade. I'd carry my books in there to study at the bar when I was in nursing school. I've watched a lot of movies at this bar. A locals type of place. Zero pretentiousness. The burgers with tots have always been my go-to, but the fish and chips is killer too. Their food is legit. Prices for everything is fair. Though, after being away for two years and returning, I did notice prices have gone up. Like everything else I guess. Best part...the staff. Came here for the food so I can't speak much about the bar BUT The burgers here are MASSIVE and reasonably priced for what you get. My only complaint is that my food took FOREVER to get. There were not many patrons when I was there, so it was unusual that I waited a little over 15 minutes to get my food. Updated Review: I have been coming here for more than 7 years at this point (see my first review and ^ look at the # of Check-Ins I got- and those check in's only happen when I remember to check in!) and I ain't ever gonna stop. This is the bar I feel most comfortable at no matter what day of the week and no matter what company I keep. Even if I am by myself watching a Spurs game here I've always felt like I can trash talk at the tv as often as I want to and not feel bad about it because of how cool the regulars here are and the bar staff, kitchen staff, and managers are at Bender. Service is attentive, friendly, quick, and I have always appreciated the bartenders and kitchen staff's willingness to make sure everyone that is eating and/or drinking here is safe. There have been questionable situations I have seen here at all times of the week and sometimes on the weekends. I mean come on, it is a bar and grill right off a major highway in Austin despite it being my neighborhood bar. Staff handles each heightened situation with fairness, professionalism, and without judgment. Food is delicious and Wing Night (75 cents on Wednesdays) is one of their busiest nights besides the weekends so get there early to get a table and a decent parking spot in their huge lot. They have a great variety of dry and wet rubs including a special wing sauce for the night every week. Monday nights have pasta specials, Wednesdays is Slider Night, and Thursdays are specials on tacos. Read that black light board at the bar for specials and prices on daily drinks and food. Drink prices are killer and the cheapest in town for local and import beers ($3-$6 depending on how how the ABV counts) and well drinks ($3.50). Don't be shy to ask for a sample of any draft beers you see or may not recognize or know what it is. Ask the bartenders for suggestions. They are excellent with knowing about the taps and types of beers and liquors that are local and beyond. Jukeboxes at ALL of the sister bars have THE best music to choose from including Bender. I would love to make a playlist of each sister bar jukebox just to listen to while I get through this life. Music and cheap drinks are on point here at Bender (and every sister bar). Don't believe me? Try me. I will bet you a Lonestar and a shot of whiskey on your tab. Its so cheap you will be able to afford buying me a round. Hmmmmm, it was OK. The place was dingy and appeared OLD. It was super dark and it was only 5 pm when we walked in. I ordered a cosmo, thinking that was safe....the first one was delicious (made by the older gentleman) but the second one tasted like dirty water; those were my friend's words; not mine as she was dying to try it. The second drink was made by the lady working that day (07/22/22). We ordered the hummus / veggies plate and OMG, if you like garlic, then you will LOVE this. It was a SUPER GARLIC HUMMUS...it was so garlic-y that your eyes got small from the facial expression when placing it in your mouth! Talk about drinking a TON of water to wash down the garlic taste. WAY TOO MUCH! We also split the sliders .... The only part that was delicious was the buns however, I decided to ditch them because it was too buttery. Would I go back to Bender's?
