Sage Brush is your local honky tonk, country dive bar. It's actually quite cute with the lights over the dance floor. Decent sized dance floor and nice bartenders. Plenty of seating on the sides. We visited to take the Double Or Nothing Company's two step class on a Saturday at 7 and we had a good time! The instructors started from the basics and gave detailed instructions. We were able to stick around and practice if we wanted. The cover for the class was $15 but I think it's cheaper if you go at other times. read more

A week or so ago, some friends and I went to check out a few bands at Sagebrush on a Sunday evening. The night of the full blue moon! The main band we wanted to see was Superfonicos which didn't start until after 10 pm! We got there around 8 pm so got to hear a couple other nice bands. We had to ask around for the lineup as the tickets we purchased didn't make it clear the order of the bands. We had fun but wish more people had shown up to support them! I've been to Sagebrush a few times and like that they have a nice big dance floor. It's easy to order drinks at the bar and we each had a few that night. This is the first time I've been to a show at Sagebrush. I came through once last year, but it was short-lived due to a friend forgetting their ID. This time was a post-game rally after barely surviving Two Step Inn as Wyatt Flores, who had his set cancelled due to the inclement weather, and Evan Honer announced they were gonna play some songs in this honky tonk. I was there. It's a great bar and venue with pool tables, a large bar, plenty of seating, a decent stage, and a nice outdoor space. Before Wyatt Flores took the stage, there were plenty of people dancing and two-stepping, but it transitioned into a regular concert once Wyatt came out. Both were great energy. One thing I noticed was that for Austin prices, their beers weren't too pricey and were decently affordable. That's what I love about a honky tonk! Sagebrush was super fun! I would say it's way better than White Horse, but there are some things to consider. 1. The ratio of good/serious dancers at Sagebrush is way higher. So if you get nervous dancing with/around the serious folk, the be warned. 2. The dance floor is way bigger at Sagebrush. That's a great thing in that you will bump into and/or have to navigate around fewer people. It also means you'll feel a lot less lost in the crowd, which makes some people a little self-conscious. 3. It's so much easier to get a drink at the bar because it's bigger and there's more staff. 4. The outdoor area is way bigger, which is probably because it's not downtown. Somehow the cover is higher though. So for a little longer drive and a little more cash, you get a very different experience! The music was interesting. The first band was country. The second was country-rock. And the third band was kinda 90's heavy rock. That was hard to dance to. There is a food truck outside, but we realized way too late to try it. I came here for the two-step dance lesson at 7:00 p.m. on a Thursday night. The turnout was impressive. The format of rotating partners provides good practice. After the lesson, there is attrition from the participants leaving the venue. However, I was able to dance with several who stuck around. There are uneven spots on the dance floor, which are not noticeable by appearance. Instead, you detect them from the sensation of losing balance. The vibe was casual and lively. It's easy to dance and chat with people. The band was good. They have a good selection of local draft beers. For this visit, I had Convict Hill oatmeal stout by Independence Brewing Co. For my previous visit, I had the Pecan Porter by (512) Brewing Company. Both are good dark beers that are not high in alcohol. Cover charge was $10. I was looking forward to an evening of Country/western music and dancing at Sagebrush. There's a nice dance floor, but the first band played only played Rock and roll. People were two stepping and doing the swing to it, but it did not hit home for me. The second band had a big following who stood all over the dance floor and prevented anyone from dancing. This was on a Wednesday night and the cover charge was $20, which I also thought was a bit steep. This was my first time to go dancing there, so I'm not sure if this is the way it is all the time. This is my first visit to Sagebrush. I came for the music and stayed for the dancing. The band was great but watching the dancers was also great. This is not a listening room. It's a dancehall. Very different experience from hearing this band at the Saxon. I love to hear the stories about what inspired the song and it wasn't possible to make out what the singer was saying. The music was great and the dance floor stayed crowded with happy feet. It's a huge floor and large parking lot. The bathroom was cleaner than I expected with a crowd that size. I felt like the only person not wearing boots and was tempted to buy a pair from the vendor outside the back door. This place is definitely upscale from the Broken Spoke which is a must visit if you've never been. Saturday night and $10 cover gets you three bands. What a bargain. read more

There seems to be a lot of misconceptions about what this place is. It is not a dive. It is a honky tonk but it is far from a dive. An absolutely stunning venue inside and out (although the parking does feel a bit rough since it is not a paved lot, but that just adds to the authenticity of a honky tonk). It's not just a country only bar and it's not just a dancing only bar, and it is far from downtown so there are nights where it will not be busy. Check the calendar, look up the bands, there is a thing called Google. The bar staff is absolutely wonderful and very friendly if you are not a terrible person. The drinks are reasonable and the cover is always also reasonable, usually $5 early in the week and $10 to $15 depending on the band. Absolutely immense dance floor and when you have a good two stepping band, it will be packed and fun as hell. The sound is amazing the ambiance is amazing, this is a gem of the far south side. read more

I came here for an event called, The best little drag brunch in Texas hosted by Brigitte Bandit. It was a cozy spot, but with plenty of room to sit or stand. They had set up the tables and extra chairs in good spots to allow the performances to continue on to the crowd. There is only one bar area which has a variety of drinks from beer to hard liquor. The staff was friendly and moved very quickly considering the amount of people there. The parking are was limited, but across from the bar is a closed business that allowed for additional parking. Whenever we visit Austin we love coming to Sagebrush. Fun atmosphere and decent live music with dancing. Plenty of places to sit and on the weekends they sometimes have vendors out back. Came to Sagebrush with a group for the Tuesday 2-step lessons and had a blast. No frills, all fun. Free lessons every Tuesday with knowledgeable and fun instructors. Just please tip them for their great service! If you don't have a partner don't worry, they rotate you through partners so you have experience dancing with multiple people. Lots of room to dance, several pool tables, and a huge backyard. There are two food trucks (venison banh mi was exciting), and a clothing truck where you can snag a hood pearl snap shirt. Excellent happy hour prices, and great vibe. Great for large parties. Parking might get dicey at some point. read more

The building that comprises Sagebrush dates back to the 1940s, and the various clubs it has housed have some history in Austin music lore. When you pull up outside, you'll swear this place belongs somewhere in a rural town, and it probably used to be out in the hinterlands, but Austin has grown up around it. Nevertheless, it still feels a bit rustic and Wild Wild West. I don't think they have air conditioning. Dress accordingly. Inside, a large, decorative bar spans the first half of the right side of the room. They offer multiple beers on tap and a full array of alcohol, with drink specials posted. Prices are average for a south Austin bar. To the left is a lounge section with rustic tables and chairs and a stage tucked back against the front wall. This is where bands play that you'll mostly want to sit and watch. The back half of the room is a dance floor with a larger raised stage, which is where they feature bands that people will mostly want to dance to. Fair warning that it's country dancing, and these are country bands. Out the door to the back, you'll find a rather large backyard with a couple of food trucks and another stage. I haven't been to a show out there or seen the food trucks in action, perhaps because it's been the hottest summer on record in Austin and no one wants to be outside in the sun. But it looks like a great place for a concert. There's always been a cover charge when I've been, usually $5, but it may be higher for bigger shows. Check their website for details. Parking is tricky, because their surrounding lot is limited. You may be able to find parking up the street, but as with most clubs, I highly recommend carpooling or ride share. A DD is always a good idea anyway. read more

Both my friend and I observed that this place looks like the bar from Twin Peaks, which is definitely a draw. There was randomly a ladder out next to the dance floor but it was only 6 so maybe they were just still getting ready for people. I'd like to come back when the dancing/music is really going on to get a better feel for the atmosphere. This place is a lot more than meets the eye, our party was surprised to find all the picnic tables and a large crowd out back as well as some sort of vintage pop up going on. The signage from outside made the establishment look more like a yuppie bar than it actually was. Either the seats at the bar are too low or the counter is too high, so you can't really sit there without feeling like a child. There's plenty of tables and booths so this isn't a huge issue. read more

Visiting Austin for a week, we went twice. Sunday was fine but pretty dead, handful of people and loud band. On Sunday night, the bartender said I could bring my 18-year old son for a dance lesson on Thursday night. He just needs to leave after the lesson. So we decided to go here in Thursday night for lessons instead of the many other options available. We show up for lessons at 7, and the (different) bartender tells us no, my son can't come. He asks the general manager on site who apparently says my son can't stay. Anyways, massively disappointing and sort of ruined the night's plans. Best little honky tonk on this side of the river with live music every happy hour and night! Seriously there is no better place to watch some locals (and touring shows) in South Austin. You will see someone you know here no doubt about it as it is busy when the music is going and when the beers and drinks are a'flowin'! I am a fan of their Hard Luck special that includes an ice cold Lonestar can of beer + well whiskey shot for super cheap $6! It is the perfect way to get rid of those jitters of being nervous about two-stepping on the dance floor. I also love their frozen bourbon lemonade topped with salt or chile salt on request. Try it! It will cool you down and get you nice & saucy! There has to be about 8+ pool tables inside split between the main stage (in the back) so there is plenty of space to hang, get some games in, and have some fun. There are THREE stages at Sagebrush and this just makes me beam! The inside bar (near the jukebox) has the cutest drapes along the back of the stage wall and plenty of room for 5+ band members to play/stand on. The mainstage is a sight for these sore pandemic eyes! Reminds me of venues and stages similar to other country venues I have been to in Texas. The 3rd stage is outside and pleases the folks who love mingling under the Texas stars and getting their fix of live music as well. The outside back space has to be 1+ acre back there with plenty of seating, tables, and space to move around. I have to make it out to their Sunday market days as I hear there are excellent local vendors paired with country live music from 3pm - night time. Sagebrush music booker(s), bartenders, and staff do a really excellent job of updating their social media pages (Instagram especially) with what bands and set times will be for the entire week! Sagebrush is awesome! There's two stages inside for live music, pool tables, and a huge back lot with a "Party Truck" that serves drinks, fairy lights and a bunch of tables. A group of friends came to see Ms. Mack here and we all had THE best night. Between the two stages, there is a good amount of room to dance, which is what we did pretty much the whole time! Along one of the walls inside, there is a silhouette of the dessert with a neon light sunset on top of it and it's my favorite thing about Sagebrush. With cute little candles on every table, this place is definitely a vibe! I had a frozen strawberry lemonade that was so good and had the perfect ICEE consistency! All of the drinks are priced really well, so you won't feel bad about getting a few good drinks. The staff is great, and that's always something I have to highlight because of the increasing stress that's being put on the service industry, so kudos to them! read more

Used to love this place, but I'm never coming back. A bartender followed me out of the bar, to my car, because I didn't tip him enough (short white guy, pretty sure his name is Garrett). Sorry dude! I was drunk, it was dark, and I'm not great at math. But that is absolutely psychotic behavior. What happens if you don't tip that guy at all? Assault? There are a lot of people who claim that this place overcharges, puts more drinks on your tab than you actually order (I started reading some other 1 star reviews. ). BRING CASH FOR THE COVER The door guy was really helpful, and the space is cute. We went to check out the vintage market this afternoon on the back patio. There were a lot of cars there, so we had to park a couple blocks away on a neighborhood street. When we got to the front door, there was an unexpected $5 cover charge, which is fine but I wish they would have posted that on their IG or website. We didn't have cash but there's an ATM right inside the door. We didn't want to wait in line to use the ATM inside since the band (close to the ATM) weren't wearing masks and neither were the people seated at tables. We left and the door guy was really helpful, offering to wave us through the back entrance to access the market and mentioning we could get cash from CVS next door if that was easier. We didn't go back, but we plan to try again. Next time we'll bring cash and hope they have the door guy at the outdoor entrance instead. Also hoping we'll be able to order drinks outside to stay away from the indoor maskless weirdos. read more

WOW what a cool venue! A group of us came here to celebrate a coworker's retirement, and this place had a fantastic atmosphere. There is a LARGE outdoor patio area with SEVERAL picnic tables. We didn't get to see any live performances, but there is an outdoor and indoor stage for live music. read more

I really was blown away at this place going in there 3 months ago when hearing this place had changed hands. They really did a killer job in everything in here... great south spot to go. Probably my first choice around town. The staff seems nice and the owner was a sweetheart telling me the buildings history. The bands that play there are all pretty decent/solid too. This place will be great come spring time for weekend farmers markets / day shows due to having a few stages. Definitely a cool vibe and has a lot of cool photo opportunities for the Instagram generations. Loved the white horse vibes but doesn't have the smell of a urinal. Go check it out. A great place to hear live music. Cool atmosphere, nice staff. I love the fact that there are two stages inside, one band finishes and another can start immediately after that on another stage. Somebody here on Yelp complained about a $5 cover charge, I'm not sure what planet they're from where $5 is an outrageous amount to support artists who you go out to listen to (even though we all know musicians only do this because they love it, right?). If you can't fork over a few dollars at the door and pay more for drinks that support the staff and the property expenses, stay home and problem solved. read more

I was a little hesitant due to the texas mask mandate debacle and lots of bars were jam packed with people this weekend as a result. However this place was pretty quiet and spread out!
