Nemophila was absolutely incredible. This all-female Japanese heavy metal band delivered an unforgettable performance, and Come and Take It Live was the perfect setting for their energy and intensity. I had such a wonderful time sharing the experience with my best friend. Great music, great atmosphere, and an even better night. So, they say there is plenty of parking, well, yes and no. There is plenty of parking, but limited free parking. They charge you an arm and a leg for paid parking. $50 for 6 hours, geez. I hope that money goes to housing the homeless in Austin. Now, back to "Come and Take it", venue is at the end of the parking lot, the place doesn't look very big from the outside, but it is pretty spacious, with a balcony for over flow. The bar is a full bar, bartenders are super friendly. The staff in whole are very motivated to keep this place clean, and they work well with each other. The sound is pretty good. As far as I know, there is one bathroom for male and females each. They have TVs that show the bands playing, so you always have a good view. They have stools around the bars, a few bar height tables and chairs. Couple of benches. They have a good size patio for smoking and just getting some air. I don't remember seeing any food. I will definitely be back for more shows and the wonderful bartenders. read more

Sound is assy, long tunnel lots of tinny reverb from the shanty like construction but whatever, it's loud. The real problem with this venue is the security. Inside, everything is metal, nice people totally chill, outside is like intake at a super max. The rejects from APD, security firms, TSA etc. are all here. In 23 shows, I probably didn't feel like a criminal twice. My wife had a current Texas ID and got double xx because it didn't have the gold star, she's 38. Unfortunately this is where the metal is, for now. It's coming back north fortunately. Matter of fact, I'm lowering my rating by a star, the security is that heinous. Getting my balls fondled while contraband goes over the toddler fence 10 feet behind cosplay TSA. It's all so sad and disappointing, fortunately it doesn't ruin the show for me, I come for the music. One of the few venues that has a wider variety of artist for a small sized venue. Got to see Arkona last night. Service is usually pretty good. Less than $10 a beer is a win these days. The parking is quite limited especially if there is another show next door at emos. The sound here can vary. But it kind of sometimes depends on the bands setup. The mens washrooms will forever smell like a dirty booty wearing an old wet towel. But that's not what you're here for. The two level floors give a good view and it's clear of poles in the center for mosh pits. read more

Had the pleasure of checking this spot several weeks ago for the Melrose Avenue/The Word Alive show. This is your typical biker dive bar which hosts a lot of metal shows here. Sound quality and stage setup are pretty solid; give credit to the equipment people for how it's all structured. There's also a bar for drinks although it's a $10 minimum if you're paying with your card. This place screams Austin metal scene all over it so remember that when you're somehow at this joint. This venue is amazing. I went to go see one of my favorite bands there that I hadn't seen in many years. And it was just a blast. Small, you can see the band right up front loud music, good radio system. The bartenders, there were amazing in and out. Get your drink quick so you can go in and enjoy the show. We went here for an "unofficial SxSW" event. I might not subscribe to the "come and take it" vibe but I didn't feel out of place there at all! The bartender was super sweet, she makes sure to know everyone's name. She was funny and quick. The place was very outdoorsy - cabinesque. A fine place to hear some good music. The bookings are varied with a lot of metal but a lot of whatever as well. I heard no metal the night I was there, but the whatever they had booked was just fine. My basic rule is that even in the best Austin clubs, there is only a one in four probability your band will be good. If one in three are good - or gasp - one in two are good, you have having a fantastic night. My night at Come and Take It Live had six bands with two outstanding winners. So at one in three I was ahead of the game. Transit Method is an outstanding postpunk thrash band. Psychostick is a comedy satire concept along the lines of a Brave Combo. They take the cliches of metal and taking-themselves-too-seriously heavy rock groups and make them totally ridiculous - while all the while playing first rate music with complete professionalism. The two mediocre bands leading up to them had the same sort of all out flagrant not-a-great-singer but yelling and screaming like the world was going to end wanna-be-the-next-Mick-Jagger lead men. Had these front men known what Psychostick was going to do to yelling and screaming like the world was going to end wanna-be-the-next-Mick-Jagger lead singers, they would have shown up in their Sunday Church suits and done a set of all Andy Williams. At least their dignity would have been preserved. * * * Clubs obviously vary show by show in the quality of their bookings. I am a Mohawk regular - but even the Mohawk can book a six-dog-food-night. (Six Dog Food Night ... now there is the name of a potential band ... ) So you have to judge a club to some extent by the space and the premises. Come and Take It Live has a terrific space. There is a large downstairs space where the main stage is. There are upstairs balconies they can open when they want to. Better yet - the downstairs space is surfaced with logs. Logs allow you to lean in the crevices BETWEEN the logs so you can stand up and still rest while watching all six shows. In a club with no seats, the capacity to lean strategically is super super helpful. (Note that this Yelp reviewer is 71 years old - but he liked leaning on walls even when he was 19.) There is precious little seating inside the club - which is a downside. You CAN sit at the bar itself - which is a wrap around bar with four sides. This is good. However, you can't sit there all night. If you are occupying bar real estate, you had better be drinking And drinking for all six sets would be quite the bender. However, there is an outdoor smoking patio with tons of seating outside. You don't hear the music but you get fresh air and you can rest your tootsies. If your show happens to take place on a rainy night though, Tough bagoo for you. The offerings at the bar are fine ... and if you just want soft drinks - you can sometimes get those for free. (Hotel Vegas does the same thing on an all the time basis. This is SUCH an enlightened policy !!! Keeps you from crashing your car on the ride home.) * * * Yeah, I wish Come and Take It Live had more indoor places to sit down. But this is basically a very good club. The space is nice, the bar is nice. The bands they book can be outstanding. A good joint well worth multiple visits. ********* Footnote: If you read the other reviews, You can see there are a string of complaints about charges at the bar. Some of these involve an undocumented $35 minimum for credit card bar tabs. That may be an ancient policy. It may be still ongoing. There are also concerns about overcharges. One situation of a "$100 tip being taken without permission was probably a $10 tip with a bartender typo. Still - it is a hassle to get those things corrected. I experienced zero of these problems. But I paid in cash. It sounds to me like paying with cash is the better part of valor in this establishment. Keep your credit card with you for buying band merch. Most bands are credit card or Venmo only. But do your bar transactions with cash. You know how much you are paying every time. There will be no surprises at the end. read more

I saw Suffocation here back in November of 2024. I am a minor, but I did buy a coke at the bar. They didn't say anything about the $35 minimum on the tab and I was confused about the 40 dollar coke the next morning. Thankfully, I received a refund 2 weeks later. The venue itself is in a pretty decent area in East Austin and it sounds pretty good. Venue was well controlled and the ambiance was cool. I'll be back! read more

Back in the day I used to frequently come to this venue location when it was known as Kaos Nightclub (good times for sure!) but I hadn't been to this venue now that is it known as Come and Take It concert venue. So imagine my excitement getting to come back to my old stompin' grounds when I realized that the concert I had bought tickets to (Freestyle Divas concert on 05/26/2023) was going to be held here BUT that excitement quickly disappeared once I got there. The outside of this venue is great because it has its own parking lot w/ plenty of parking space all around but the inside has a funky layout of the stage so depending on where you standing, you won't be able to actually see the artists performing on the stage. There were a few small screens mounted on the walls for you to view the stage but with this venue not being very big inside, it goes to show how poor the layout is. It felt very closed in because it was crowded w/ others all around you. To sum it up, not seeing myself attending any more concerts at this venue any time soon. Rebecca read more

By far the WORST venue I have ever been to. Talk about a poor viewing experience, the layout of this venue is absolutely terrible. There is a lower/pit area that is somewhat tiered, and an upper/balcony section that wraps the rectangular area of the venue, with the stage at one of the narrow sections of the area, meaning unless if you're TALL, or right at the railing of the balcony, you are pretty much going to see NOTHING, which is probably why they have TVs in the bar area, so you can really *experience* the concert live... Also because of the layout of the venue, if you're upstairs the acoustics are really weird and don't sound right, and you can't see anything. The tiers in the downstairs are so short that it hardly does anything and they're so small that they get packed and really provide no benefit to being tiered. Definitely won't be going back to this location for another concert - what a shame! read more

Went to this bar for the two Disney and 2000's throwback nights they've hosted over the last couple months. Both times were meh, to say the least. The only part of this bar that I liked was the music playing, thanks to the incredible traveling DJ's! But that's about it. Don't be fooled by the big "Come and take it live" sign outside. That's about the newest thing in this bar. Everything from the restrooms to the bar area and upper level in the back felt very old and worn. It's also on the smaller side, but that didn't really bother me much. I felt like it was a good size for the type of events I went to. The bartenders are some of the worst I've ever come across and are the reason I decided to write this review. Had some of the worst tequila of my life the first time I was here. The mixed drinks overall were not very good and were watery and weird. The second time, I learned better and stuck to canned drinks. But even their selection of cans is limited. And above all, the bartenders are not very pleasant people. I thought maybe it was just an off night the first time I came here. But both night, every single bartender I ordered from or interacted with was mean and rude. I understand it's a tough job. But this was far beyond an "I hate my job" vibe. I could also understand having to be more aggressive when dealing with people who are drinking. But this wasn't that, either. It felt like they would go out of their way to be intentionally rude. It really takes a lot to leave this much of an impression in a one or two-minute interaction. I've been to a lot of bars in austin in my day but have never been to a venue where almost all of the bartenders are disappointing. Should be obvious by now, but to make it clear, I would not recommend coming here. And if you do, be sure to keep your expectations very low. read more

A metal music venue that simultaneously gives log cabin and biker bar vibes. Plenty of parking, good beer selection, their lineup of future shows displayed on screens throughout, and live camera feeds of the performance stage near the bar. There are three viewing areas: (1) the floor/pit, (2) a raised platform area in the back of the first floor that's great for petite concert-goers like myself that often have trouble seeing the stage when it's packed; and (3) a wrapped balcony on the 2nd floor. Sound quality is great, I'm not going to pretend like I'm an expert but their speakers and equipment allow for good audio balance. And there's an outdoor space for people to chill, drink, and smoke. This was a very fun little place. Surprisingly a whole lot of parking for this venue. The sound stage is a little small and extremely loud so please bring earplugs. They're seating areas around the stage too. The bar seems to be filled with everything you could want within reason. You're willing to mix drinks and things of that sort. And if you just want water, their fountain has cups so you can serve yourself. read more

Would leave a zero if I could. Went to support a band I know and bought a beer at the bar. They took my card and I carried on with my night. When I got outside there was a boot on my car! Even though I was told I could park there, I had to pay $175 to get the boot off. Then, I was checking my bank account and they charged me $35 for ONE BEER! Absolute fraud. Will never go back. Can't give it a full five stars because I didn't order anything at the bar and can't judge their selection/prices. Just wouldn't be fair. But otherwise, this is now probably one of my favorite spots in Austin to see a show. While I'm not the biggest metal fan, I have an appreciation for it. So when my friend said if I wanted to go to a metal show up in Austin, I said, "Sure! Why not?" And you know what? I had a hell of a great time. The tiered experience is what made this the best for me. As a delicate flower, old and frail, I surely would have been crushed into Cynthia-wine had I been in the low level pit. Instead, I was safe against the barrier on the second level, with still an OUTSTANDING view and still able to head bang to my fluffy head's content. (there was yet one more tier, too) The music was pretty good with Wolf King and Rivers of Nihil being my favorites. Who knew metal and sax went so well together? Overall it was an energy packed show and, yeah, I'd definitely go to another metal concert. Fo sho! read more

Definitely a good venue for shows. I keep on seeing people saying they were "robbed" of $35, not sure how that happened. I've been here well over 10 times and I have never had any issues with my tab. The only reason why I put 4 stars is because of the pillars that are blocking the stage views if you're at the bar. Of course, they provide TV's so you can see the show on there. It's obviously not a big issue for me because as I said before, I've been here well over 10 times. Keep on rockin'! read more

I really thought that this venue was so awesome. It is a great. There's even a ramp for the stage for the band, so that they don't have to lug their gear all the way up. That was so thoughtful in their makeup of the place. Every band I saw came from out of town and they were all so excited and honored to play there. The staff was so accommodating. They were always making sure that we were comfortable and anything we needed was taking care of. They went over and beyond in their customer service. The ambience is great too. I love all the events that they have and it's a fantastic place to hang out in the outskirts. Highly recommend. read more

Come and Take It Live has the potential to be the greatest rock club in Austin, however, poor management and ownership has ruined this club. I've worked with Come and Take It before they owned this club. I used to do in-house ticket giveaways. I have covered numerous concerts there as a promotor and journalist. Literally, I've given them millions of views. Recently, I was assaulted by a staff member. There was no damage control. The head of security bullied me. I am a disabled person and was greatly hurt, no ambulance was called. I was told I had to leave the property. I went to the Shell station next door and called the police and pressed charges--assault on a disabled person. I am not sure if they arrested my offender, most likely, and I will see him go to prison. It's sad that after a ten-year relationship with this club and organization that it had to come to an end. It's not like this was the first time, though, I have been repeatedly threatened and assaulted by their staff. They don't treat their artist very well, either, making them sell tickets to open for major artists. The worst, the most dumb founding example of this was Flesh Hoarder having to do this when their founding member is a member of Philip H. Anselmo and Illegals. On this night, Flesh Hoarder opened for Philip's other band, Superjoint, but had to sell tickets. This club makes no sense. I am relieved to not deal with them anymore. The club only caused anxiety! read more

Was kicked out of this establishment and not let back in for letting someone take a drink of my drink. After a rude interaction with a member of security, we watch that same member let individuals in unmarked without an ID in front of us. I respect being strict, but not when it is blatantly inconsistent and aggressive. Either enforce the rules or don't! Not a fun way to spend your night. Edit: to follow up they also did the thing where they charged me 35 dollars for an 11 dollar tab that was closed out and I have the receipt to. Never coming here again. read more

Loved the venue!! I was going there the first time to see my son perform for the Tool tribute. His band was Imperfect Circle. This was his first gig and the owners let my daughter bring my grandson to see his uncle, who is 15 months. He even loved it. I came in from out of town on the 10th for the Alestorm/Gloryhammer show, and I loved it~ The sound of the venue was excellent, I was able to get decent views despite the support pillars along the sides of the main area, the rum and cokes were well priced, and the place just has an overall good vibe. I'd love to come back for other strange bands that come by on tour and never make their way to Houston. A nice anecdote about the scene and staff: I made a grave mistake of excitedly following a drunk girl who kissed my cheek into a mosh pit and got tossed out (as one does) without my glasses. Oh well, thank god I had my sunglasses at my motel, whatever. I could watch the show via phone camera if I had to. I went on a little squinty scavenger hunt between staff members to try to find a plastic bag to clean up the remains of my glasses between sets, and all the staff were so kind, as were the crowd in general (heck, I lost my glasses in the first place because like 7 people tried to help me up immediately) Miraculously, I was chatting to a pirate at the bar and waiting to get more rum when staff told me someone had actually found my specs! This place is not efficient. Overcrowded and the security acts like top flight security of the world. They do not have the proper security in place to handle large crowds compared to it neighbor. Anyways, I hope they take it easy with people that are adults and just want to have a good time don't try to over poweer them with deep voices and aggressive stances.... also they close early which is a negative read more

The only thing positive I have to say about this place is that some of the staff and bartenders were super nice. Otherwise, this place might be decent for a small rock show, but that's about it. I went to see Daniel Caesar last night and they definitely overbooked the show. I guess that wouldn't be a problem if the stage configuration was good, but it sucks. The stage is way too low, and I spent most of the time on my toes just trying to see the performer's heads. Now I am not very tall by any means, but I'm not super short either. I felt really bad for all the people shorter than me. The only real view they got was from their phones, arms stretched high. I hate the "should have got there early" mentality too, if you pay money to see a show you should at least get to see it from any central location to the stage... Overall, the sound sucked too. It could have been a combo of bad engineering and poor sounds equipment, but it was not good. The bass was super boomy and the treble was muddled. I won't be coming back to a show here unless they do some work and raise the stage for everyone to see. read more
