I have only been to the apmitheater twice for shows and both times were excellent. The sound is absolutely incredible. To be honest, I was suprised it was that good. It's a nice space and the lawn seating is decent as well. Like most venues, expect to pay a ridiculous price for beverages and food. Lines can get insanely long. Definitely not a place you want to drive to, parking is pretty close to non-existent. We actually walked one way on each of our visits and then took a car service. That's the best option. Overall, really good experience during both visits. read more

Line dancing in Moody Amphitheater park managed by Waterloo Greenway was such a refreshing and delightful experience. There's something special about being outdoors, music playing, and people of all ages coming together just to dance and have fun....Family friendly event. The open space made it feel relaxed and welcoming with good vibes only . The dances were easy to follow, whether you were a beginner or had some experience line dancing, and the sense of community was amazing. Strangers quickly turned into friendly dance partners. Also, plenty of laughs were shared throughout the evening. The fresh air and upbeat music made the whole experience feel uplifting and energizing. It's a perfect way to get some exercise in without it feeling like a workout. This is a great reminder of how fun simple activities can be. Importantly, the Line Dancing was free to the public...6-10 pm. Line dancing in the park is something I would absolutely do again and highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun, social, feel‑good way to spend an evening. read more

I heart this place. Why? I got to attend a special concert with my special someone and my brother from another mother. But that's not the only reason. The sounds are awesome, no over saturated songs. The service at the concession stands is efficient and the staff is always friendly and quick. Getting in can be a bit crowded and cramped but once you're inside, it's easy sailing. Getting out is also a bit of a trick but I suspect there are a ton of secret exits to discover. Easy in, easy out. read more

They have a water filling station for hydration, but the water is not cold. The seats had good views from the area we were in. There is also an option to buy tickets to a green space in the back with open unassigned seating. There is not much shade so it can get very hot so it is important to stay hydrated. This was my first time catching a concert at the amphitheater. My partner and I came to see Briston Maroney and Peach Pit, and we had seats on the lawn just behind the GA section. My initial impression was that the GA section was extremely small. It also looks like it would be unbearably hot in there. I definitely felt lucky to have a seat! We ended up checking the available tickets that were left and saw that there was a whole row available a few rows in front of us, so we moved up. I appreciated that there were huge water coolers spread out throughout the venue, and I also liked that there were real bathrooms instead of porta potty's. However, the bathrooms had no AC, very long lines, and were pretty dirty with minimal toilet paper. For parking, we parked on the east side of i35 and walked over. There is free parking on a lot of those side streets. Overall, it's a good venue that is centrally located, but tough to sit there during the hot summer months and some downsides just because of how many people are there at once. Nevertheless, I do think I'll be back at some point! read more

Easily one of my favorite music venues in Austin. I love the outdoor venue, especially when it's a nice day outside. Most concerts are in the evening so it's usually never too hot. I usually get GA tickets and sit on the lawn. The prices are usually good and it's comfortable sitting on the lawn. I'd recommend to bring a blanket to sit on if you can. You can have a great view of the show and there have been fantastic artists that have performed there. They sell good options for food and drinks there too. read more

I've been to Moody a couple times now, but most recently to see Jelly Roll in concert. The venue itself is good overall. The seating can be a bit tight. There really isn't a bad seat/view. I've sat in the lower level and upper level, center and sides, and had a good view each time. The upper level really isn't that far from the performer compared to other venues. We learned the hard way there's only one escalator to the second level so if you walk away from that one, you'll have to complete a full circle or take the stairs. Jelly roll put on a wonderful show. The lines for concessions went quickly and there were plenty of options for overpriced food and drinks. We ended up getting chicken waffle fry nachos, which was decent. We were running late to the concert due to traffic so we ended up purchasing parking in one of the state parking garages nearby. There are many garages to choose from. Parking was $30 card only. No matter where you park, there's going to be a walk to the venue. read more

Technically a seasonal venue, the Moody offers more than just a live music venue. From Creek Show in the fall to summer strolls down Waller Creek to all the amenities of a park scape, Waterloo Greenway culminates in the Amphitheater. They have full concessions (usually at least one food truck is open for at least half the show), available vip upgrades on seating, and several nearby parking garages. During 2021, I had the chance to see 311/Iration here. Iration played but 311 did not due to a thunderstorm about to come. Obviously I left being disappointed. Flash forward a few years to late mid-August of 2024 and 311 is here again with AWOL Nation and Neon Trees. Of course I wouldn't pass this up. The venue being outdoors, the entrance can be congested due to the bag searches so know which line you need to go into. Once you get in, the floorplan shows a curved area for seats with a standing area at the stage for up-close viewings. My friend and I got seats on the left side of the lawn but was able to see the bands pretty good. As always, all the bands crushed it and brought the energy. Sound quality is decent as it stays within the venue although you'll probably hear the music blocks away. The venue is a bit of a walk from city restaurants/bars so be prepared to get your steps in. I'll probably be here for another show down the road. Prayers no issues with weather! read more

Enjoyed this outdoor venue in the north side of downtown. Rideshare will drop you off on Trinity street behind the amphitheater and the lineup is a street over on Red River street. It's a brisk walk from the Red River entertainment district but probably a 20m walk up a moderate slope if your coming from downtown hotels. The lawn in front of the stage can be seated into a few sections or set up as a standing floor area. There's a secondary lawn area further out back. There are video screens as well that are decent for the venue but not huge festival screens. The sound is decent as well. If it's standing floor area, it could get pretty tight once the main act is on. Sometimes they will split the floor area into a VIP section up front. If you are trying to get out - I normally just wait for a group trying to leave to pass by and follow them out of the crowd is the easiest. Restrooms to the side. A good venue with lots of views of downtown and it brings in allot more acts into town that can't just yet fill up an arena and is too big for the indoor venues. The city also utilizes this venue for several local events as well to serve the community. read more

Had the opportunity to see Kaytranada recently and it was such an amazing venue. The rideshare drop-off is situated on the other side so get ready for a short walk, but it is enjoyable since it is smackdab in a little park in the midst of downtown. Security was super efficient and quite a breeze to get through as they had dedicated lines for those with or without bags. Once you get in the setup is pretty easy to navigate and I love how it's literally hosted on fresh lawn with reserved areas including lawn chairs and an open general seating (standing area). They have snacks and drinks located on both sides of the stage and albeit unfortunate, there were plenty of medics around available to assist those in need. The music and production was superb and trust me when I saw I was ecstatic to learn most concerts and shows end around 10pm due to noise ordinances. read more

Seats are so close together it was claustrophobic. Sound system was awful. Sounded like a high school gymnasium set up. I was disappointed in the experience. Might be good for quiet folk or acoustic shows but for a rock or dance show it's the wrong venue. Would not go back. This venue looks really nice because it's in a nice park, but it's one of my least favourite in Austin. I've been in the VIP lawn section with chairs and the regular lawn section. The VIP lawn is way better because at least you can see the artists on stage. The general lawn section is really crowded, so they should cut down the number of tickets for that section. Throughout the whole show, you can see people walking on the sidewalk if you're in general lawn. When it's dark outside, it's also really annoying to see people constantly going in and out of the restrooms because the door opening makes the light shine everywhere. It's such a weird placement to put the restrooms right on either side of the stage in full view of the audience. The food is ridiculously expensive as my friend bought a pretzel for $12. Drinks were also crazy overpriced. They let you bring in one unopened bottled water. It's good to bring a blanket or towel for the lawn. There are a lot of nearby parking garages. I go to a lot of concerts by myself, but this is definitely not a venue I would go to solo. People were talking atrociously loudly on the lawn. I could barely hear the music. Talking during the performance is an issue at every concert venue, but this one was the worst experience I've had. Paying $50 for the lawn experience is a very bad deal. The only thing I liked was the view of the Capitol and other surrounding buildings. read more

Do not bother with level up vip tickets, its not worth it. The roof top and lounge are a joke. The venue itself is great . it's a small venue so one seat is not better than the other and since it's small, lines to go to the bathroom and to get drinks not long at all. I had pit tickets up by the stage and they really weren't worth it. The sound that close was horrible. It was much better further back. Also, don't forget if you're going in the summertime in Texas to an outdoor amphitheater it is going to be extremely hot. You can bring an unopened bottle of water in with you or a refillable plastic bottle then you can use the water fountains to fill your water bottle. I suggest doing this as they sell seven dollar cans of water. I definitely would go back to this venue. I just wouldn't worry about expensive seats or the supposedly VIP package. read more

This venue is outdoors with a perfect backdrop of the Texas Capitol. Beautiful Waterloo park surrounding it as well. Security and staff who worked there were friendly. Getting there is a bit confusing since maps will take you to the Trinity St side but the entrance is actually on the Red River St side. The lawn fills up quickly since it is a smaller venue but you can bring a blanket to sit on and a sealed water bottle which was nice. Be aware that there aren't many food options, just a Woodshed Smokehouse tent and bar on each side. read more

Been here twice now and yes, it's a nice, brand new "pretty" venue, but just DONT sit in Section 105. I had front row there and it was disappointing. If you look at the section next to you, it's equivalent to the 4th row (of what I assume is Section 104) Section 105 is so side stage that it feels like "obstructed view" seats. I'll never sit in that section again. My friends saved the day and pulled me over into their section (a middle section) where there was an open seat. read more

The seats (folded chairs) are a bit small for adults and not much room for people to pass by. Parking in near by garage is cool but no elevators so you have to hood it up and down the stairs. Wifey and I enjoyed Robert Plant and Allison Krauss here. Lots of great things and just a few pesky whiny complaints about this venue. There is plenty of parking nearby using a parking app on your mobile phone. The capacity of 5,000 means that you'll enjoy a nice, small venue. The surrounding area and venue are green, lush, and very clean. The signage is top notch, with each area, row, and seat clearly labeled; no awkward guessing. Restrooms are clean and easy to find. There are many seating options: cheapskate lawn (bring a small blanket), upgraded lawn with Adirondack chairs, VIP "booths" with a small table and service, and reserved seating. Wifey and I are officially old, so we's likes us to sits in them seats up front 'n close! The view and sound (from out seats) was spectacular. A few other Yelp reviewers (we're a notoriously whiny bunch, aren't we?) complained about tight seating. Hmm, not sure about that. We were comfy. They also whine about the price of drinks, food, and concessions, knowing fully that these prices are in line with every other concert venue. So, venue is topnotch in our books. But...read on. Our ONLY complaint is about the so-called "Level Up" options. We (stupidly) splurged for the lounge and terrace at $50 each. The lounge is small, cramped, and loud. Yes, it has AC, but it semi defeats the whole idea of an outdoor concert. Maybe if it were 110 degrees outside, we would have appreciated it more. The terrace was open and spacious, but had limited seating. If you think that you can watch the show from up there, you're WRONG. A nice velvet rope and a rent-a cop keep you about 6 feet from the balcony, so you can see only the audience and a partial view of the band behind the large banner. The ONLY true "upgrade" is access to bottled wine. All other food and beverage offerings are identical as elsewhere in the venue. Had we not wasted $100 on the Level Up, I'd be giving this place a 5-star review. read more

Longtime Austinites will remember when Waterloo Park was just an urban green space next to a swampy creek within walking distance of the Texas Capitol, the University of Texas campus, and the bars of Red River, as well as being the site of some fabulous "Keep Austin Weird" annual events like Fun Fun Fest and Spamarama. It took more than a decade for the latest transformation into its current incarnation as a beautifully modern events space, which includes an awesome part-time music venue with around 35 planned shows per year, the Moody Amphitheater (MA). Because MA is located in the middle of several congested areas of downtown, planning ahead for arrival and exit is critical. Using rideshare or public transportation is highly recommended since nearby parking is limited. Or, be like me and wear your running shoes so you can sprint away for a mile to escape the congestion and head toward Mopac after the show! The main entrance is on Red River close to 15th Street, but the drop-off area is a couple of blocks away near 12th and Red River. Check out the venue FAQs and "Getting Here" page https://www.moodyamphitheater.com/general-information-faq before your event to rule out any bad surprises. For example, a clear bag policy is in effect, outside chairs and umbrellas are not allowed, but you can bring a towel or small blanket for the lawn if you like. Other advantages to snag decent tickets include cardholder presales for Amex and Citi members, LiveNation mailing list, and of course, fan club membership for your artists of interest. Don't wait too long to buy, as Ticketmaster now does "demand pricing" meaning the price of tickets will increase as the event date approaches if the act is popular (or just won a Grammy). I've seen the price of tickets almost tripled from the presale date to the week before a show. One more tip for those who require a "premium" experience... At MA, anyone can purchase (at least until sold out) an add-on called "Level Up" to allow access to a couple of VIP areas (Tito's Terrace and PNC Lounge, with or without VIP parking nearby) with extra food and drink options, comfortable seating, air-conditioned bathrooms, and such. You must purchase a regular event ticket to gain entry, but the add-on gets you a wristband for access to these special areas and reserved parking (if you choose). To find these options, search for "Level Up at Moody Amphitheater" on Ticketmaster and then select from the available options for your concert date. Current prices range from $30 - $70 per person. Attending a concert in Austin these days can be a bit confusing since we now have at least 3 different venues with the generous Moody family's name. Here's how to keep it straight: - Moody Amphitheater (MA) is an open-air venue in a public park that is generally available to the community most days of the week except when ticketed events like concerts and festivals are going on. Capacity is around 5,000+ people, including a general admission lawn area. - Moody Theater (aka ACL Live) is home to Austin City Limits (the venerated PBS music program) and is located downtown next to the W hotel and the big Willie Nelson statue. It was so nice to be at a concert again. The communication from the venue beforehand was fantastic. There were maps available about parking and rideshare to help navigate getting there and pretty much all information needed about the venue. I was so happy that there were full sized bathrooms available, with plenty stalls, and they were extra clean. I didn't try any food but the drinks were good, definitely pricey though. Staff was nice. We did have a hard time finding our seats because the numbers were under the seat. The sound quality was amazing for a reggae concert. I'm excited to come back here for more concerts and to enjoy the park! read more

This is in fact outside, in what used to just be Waterloo park! My husband and I saw Bleachers here last month and it's a great amphitheater with pretty good sound for outdoors. My one complaint (not that it's something anyone can control) is an outdoor venue for dusk-time concerts in Austin is just questionable because of unpredictable thunderstorms as the temp cools down. A storm narrowly avoided us that night and we saw a lot of lightning during the performance. read more

Not a whole lot has changed since our last visit here except for the fact that it's now September, meaning the heat is not as bad. On this visit we saw Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. The lines were long as we stood in the sun with that same building focusing its intense light on us all across the venue. I once again gritted my teeth as I spent $13 on a beer followed by $40 for a T-shirt and another $40 for a poster (and every kiosk screen "gives you the opportunity " to tip). It should be noted, this time around I noticed a couple of craft beers in the offering. Fortunately we had seats just a few rows from the stage so we weren't roasted on the lawn by the sun like the rest of the fans. One yelper mentioned that it gets pretty chatty on the lawn, but that's definitely not the case closer to the stage, primarily because you just can't hear each other when the music is playing. Despite the overpriced grub, it's still a decent venue, but I would recommend getting as close to the stage as you can in order to really enjoy the show. read more
