A fabulous, current yet fabulous show. Magic, merriment and music in a small venue with staff that want nothing more than you to have a good experience. Drinks are good, the show better. A classic.

It's mostly politically charged humor with no shortage of song, dance and expertly made props. What else could you possibly need? Magic. Turns out, you need magic. Toss an accomplished magician, extravagant blacklight decor and a full bar into the mix and you've got yourself some Esther's, mi amigo. The show is about 90 minutes long with a 5-minute intermission and makes for a great night out. Really fun.

What I got: Friday Night Tier 1 Tickets ($40 each) Aya's take: First time in Austin and I'm so glad we came to Esther's Follies! Esther's Follies has been around since April Fool's Day in 1977. I had no idea what to expect going into it and honestly, it was so much better that way. When we arrived, there was live music by a few cast members. Suddenly, the night of comedy, magic, and music began. It's pretty fast-paced which kept me super engaged and I enjoyed the satirical bits that poke fun and highlight current events in politics and pop culture. The magic by Ray Anderson was outstanding! I had never been to a vaudeville-style entertainment like this but I will say it is a must-do in Austin! I highly recommend adding this to your Austin itinerary.

This was a fun experience in Austin. There is a food truck outside and a bar inside with available seating prior to the show. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and the performances were great!! Left with a bellyache from the laughter! Much needed! Highly recommend and would definitely go again!

Great show, excellent performers! It was a fast paced, non stop good time. Lots of laughs and very entertaining. We sat in B2-3 which was great for accessibility because my partner needed extra leg room for his immobilizer, however we weren't able to see the entire show (outside the front window) from this angle. So closer to the aisle if on the far right side is probably better. We didn't eat but there is a taqueria attached with food options you can bring into the show. No veggie options though. If you're in Austin, go check it out!

So so so fun! Had a blast! So funny my tummy was hurting. I will definitely be coming back for a fun night :)

They have some snacks and drinks. There are so many good things to say about this place. The bar tenders are attentive and offer you to make your orders for the break before going in. Do that because it's quick and easy to pick up your drinks. As for the show... it was nothing that I expected in the middle of 6th street. Magic, Comedy, Singing and other spoofs. Absolute must see if you venture into Austin. Bring a group with you. This show is totally worth every penny spent.

Brought some NY friends visiting Austin to see Esther's Follies. It was our first time, too. Even for people who grew up regularly seeing Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, this gem in Austin was the hit of their visit! We enjoyed the variety of political satire, musical creativity and a fantastic comedic magician. The sketches were fresh with current events, which means that we'll be able to go back time and again, and see a new show each time. The actors were all talented, and we loved the magic bits. I highly recommend the show!

Security guard makes a really dumb statement as he touches my leg-- "hmm did you have surgery recently?" WTF? Bro get your fuggin hand off my leg you creep. Not okay. Then we get seated. 2 drink minimum. Wait staff was rude. I had the light on to call the server...no one came. I waved down a server who was helping a group directly in front of me...she snarkily said I have to leave my light on and that MY server would come to take my order. My server never came back except to hand me the closing check. I try to explain to her that I never got my second drink. She said oh well, last call passed (which she never told me). I ask for a receipt and she doesn't give it. I leave no tip. My charge was about 18.50. I look at my card statement the next day and it was rounded up to $20. What's so funny about this...after I told her the situation about the drink and we had no resolution...she literally went to the group on the left of me, and brought the guy a drink that he never received either! I thought the bar was closed??? Where is my drink??? Terrible. As for the comedy. They sucked. From the opener doing some lame "Robert De Niro" impression, to Brian Simpson (a pro). The jokes were not funny in the slightest. The audience didn't really laugh either. Overall, this was my 2nd time here and the negative experience is too much to look over. 2 stars.

It turned out to be a nice evening out. Two comedians warmed up the crowd before Malik B took the stage, and from the moment he started, he had everyone laughing. His observations, relatable humor, and effortless delivery kept the audience fully engaged. His set was packed with laughs, blending everyday experiences with clever storytelling. His comedic timing was outstanding and reminded us of the younger Eddie Murphy. One of the highlights of the show was Malik B's interactions with the audience, including a physical education teacher, a salesperson, and a former stripper. He kept returning to their stories throughout the set, creating hilarious running jokes that had the crowd roaring with laughter. Interestingly, he surprised them by offering to pay their tab at the end of the show (major nice gesture). Capitol City Comedy Club provided the perfect setting for a night of entertainment. The venue was comfortable, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere made for a great experience. Please note that there is a two-item minimum purchase per person for food and beverages. Parking was also a breeze, with plenty of free parking available in both the mall lots and parking garages. My brother-in-law thoroughly enjoyed the show, and so did we. It was a fun, memorable evening filled with nonstop laughs.

Sadly, this one was a big letdown. We splurged on VIP seating (nearly triple the regular ticket price), expecting a fun, full-house experience... only to walk into a nearly empty room with couches set up in the front - which seemed like they were just for us. The staff was kind, but the vibe was awkward from the start. As the night went on, a handful of other people trickled in, but the energy never really took off. Some of the more seasoned comedians seemed a bit disinterested in performing for such a small crowd but had great material, so we wanted more, so it stung when they rushed off since we genuinely love supporting live comedy. Alternatively, some other comedians went on forever, and that was a bit much when the laughter was hard to come by. The audience was funnier than some of the sets. Again, it pains my heart to write this, but I have to be honest - and I genuinely hope this was an off night and my next review will crush this one. This was our first lackluster experience after months of exploring Austin's entertainment scene. Hopefully it was just an off night, but for the price and the potential, it definitely missed the mark.

One of the guys that waited our table was hitting on my drunk friend and was very handsy. The event itself was fun. I'd probably go again but maybe if it was somewhere else. I liked that this place had two floors. It was big enough to hold the crowd that came for the event. The DJ and Host were funny and kept the conversation flowing well! Good music. It was hard to see in a dark room so much so some of my friends gave up on trying to keep track of their bingos and just danced to enjoy the music. The drinks that we were served were made well. My only complaint about the event was that we got two different emails about the start times and my friends and I worried about showing up late or potentially too early. When you try to contact the event itself in the emails where it says contact us it tells you there's no phone number and that you have to contact them by email and when you email them you get an automated response that says sorry we don't check our emails.
