The Far Out Lounge in Austin, TX is everything its name promises. Rad, laid-back, and full of soul. Tucked away in South Austin, this spot feels like a love letter to live music and the people who live for it. With its sprawling outdoor space, funky vintage vibes, and welcoming crowd, it's the kind of place where you immediately feel like you belong. The music is the heartbeat here. Whether it's local bands tearing it up on stage or national acts stopping by, the sound is always on point and the energy infectious. From rock to funk to psych to honky-tonk, the Far Out doesn't box itself in--it's all about good music, period. And the vibe? Pure Austin. Chill, unpretentious, and bursting with creativity. Drinks are strong, the food trucks keep you fueled, and there's plenty of room to spread out or dance up front. It's the kind of venue where you can bring your dog, your kids, or just yourself and still feel part of the scene. The Far Out Lounge isn't just a bar. t's a community that celebrates the music and the people who love it. If you're looking for the real Austin experience, this is it.

One of my fave places to check out live music. Gritty (in the best way possible) and raw, this joint brings all the goodness that surrounds seeing a decent show. Live performances are spot on with sound. Nice stage with room to dance. Good drink prices and good service.

I love this place. It gives off dive bar vibes but is clean and well furnished. The bartender was very friendly and they are very welcoming to pets. I love the selection of alcohol and the sandwiches are damn good too. I am eager to go back to try more of the menu.

On a balmy summer/autumn evening with a group of friends, this place is fantastic for a chill music venue. There's loads of seating and open space, welcoming in dogs as well, and even a little clearing in front of the main stage to dance, if the music so moves you. Reasonable parking if you get there early, or just drop your car at the nearby HEB and walk a block, if you need to. Cover charges are highly reasonable, usually around $5 - 10 for a lineup of 3 - 6 bands. Don't bother paying in advance to avoid online services fees though. However, there's no food on sight, despite what the website would have you believe, so plan on heading across the street to Torchy's or Michi Ramen if you get hungry. Cocktails are limited and extremely weak; beer might be the better choice, but never my preference. Don't forget the sunscreen and bug spray. You can fill in the blanks there.

We drove in from Houston to watch Still Corners and Alvvays at the Austin Psych Fest here at Far Out. The venue is located in South Austin but they have a decent sized parcel of land to fit a few hundred folks for an outdoor concert. Parking was a bit of an issue but we parked half a mile away and walked over. It was raining during the day but luckily the ground wasn't too muddy thanks to some of the gravel lying around. The sound design for the smaller stage isn't the best and the larger stage has a bass projection that's a bit heavy in a particular direction, but for a mini music festival, it's a pretty cool spot and well organized.

We came for Knuckle Sandwiches and Gilbert treated us with so much love and even remembered us. Sandwiches are my favorite in all of Austin, the vibes are pure nostalgia, and all i want to do on my day off is be here. Thank you Gilbert.

I have been to Austin many times and I hadn't of this place. I only found out about The Far Out Lounge because of the Do More month service. For only five dollars a month I get free tickets offered to me randomly via email. I was offered two free tickets to a show happening at this place. This place is huge and has plenty of seating near the food trucks and the stage. The parking situation was good and the employees were very friendly. The bar had a lot of beer on tap and also cocktails on offer. The Press Kitchen food truck was my choice of the night and they didn't disappoint me. I got the classic burger with no onions(onions are the devil) and extra pickles(pickles get you into heaven). The burger was delicious and it came with a bag of chips. I'm happy that I drove from San Antonio to check this place out.

This place is a gem. I am so in love with Far Out that I almost hesitate to tell people about it because I want to keep it to myself. Joking, sort of. I started frequenting when bars opened back up in 2020. I love the outdoor seating, it's spaced out and gives everyone plenty of space to social distance. The drinks are always good, the bartenders are all friendly, and this is the best spot to meet to socialize OR find a corner to be alone. That sounds strange but grab a book- a Paloma- and have an amazing day sitting outside. What really makes this place shine is everything they have going on with their events. I've seen Selena cover bands, Emo nights, discovered new musicians here. The food trucks are a blessing here, I never realize how hungry I'll get after hanging out with friends all day having some drinks. Birria tacos? YES PLEASE. The markets they host are always amazing, I have found some of my plants, jewelry, and vintage clothing here. Shout out to the Bartender who gave me a Far Out Lounge enamel pin. I'm obsessed, seriously I love it so much. (I complimented hers and she just handed me one, I'm telling y'all they are so friendly here!)

The Far Out Lounge is like THE classy and cool big sister to The Lil Darin' a lot more welcoming, diverse and fun! It's definitely pretty far south, but you need to check it out. There is parking onsite although the lot is decent sized but usually so full, so I recommend taking an Uber. There's live music all throughout the week and they have events popping off all the time. Mondays they have Motown Mondays--the musicians are fantastic! Motown hit classics from 8pm-10pm. There are food trucks onsite and there's usually a henna artist as well.

Hard pass. Poorly ran shows and rude bar staff. Go to Sam's or Little Darlin if you want to enjoy yourself instead.

Ask the Community - The Far Out Lounge and Stage

Will a show be moved to an indoor venue due to inclement weather?

    Do they have heat lamps?

They have a handful but not was cold when we went and they weren't on. Asked to turn on but no one came...so???

What is the outdoor seating situation for events? On the ground? Standing? Tables?

They have a ton of picnic tables, various chairs near the main stage, and the event stage has a standing room field, but you can see/hear the event stage from any seating option! I have also seen people bring their own chairs as well.

    Do they have wifi?

We do! Super fast and super free

Do they have kid/baby friendly hours?

    All ages all the time

Do they have kid friendly hours?

Yes! They open at 11 and are very kid friendly

Do they have food/food truck on site?

    Yes.

Parking? Easy. They have a front lot off Congress and another one off Sandra (just South on…read moreCongress after you pass the bar). The drinks? Oh my gaaahhd. I'm usually not a fan of 'craft cocktails' out bc they're overpriced and not nearly as good as what my partner makes at home, but these were glorious. These drinks had layers of flavor. And fresh ingredients. And they were reasonably priced. Honestly, I don't even remember the last time we had such good drinks out (ok that's a lie but another review and it was at that place where Crowbar used to be - but these win hands down). The bartenders were nice and knowledgeable (Did I mention they make amazing drinks?). The outside has a similar feel to Cosmic but more secluded which is nice. They have plenty of seating, mostly outside, and food from an onsite truck, Sabor Tapatio. Honestly, I feel like this place is a unicorn. 78745 low key vibe but also with some old school Austin feels (I'm talking 2005 mid-Noughties - not 20-teen Rainey Street batch cocktails). They also have coffee in the mornings which we'll be checking out sooner rather than later. 10/10 recommend.

There are plenty of different seating options but very few seats inside. The place is chill, ordering drinks took some time even with no rush. Seems like they have some pre-mixed type of cocktails. Honestly, neither of us liked our drinks much. We actually left it behind. The food truck is nice to have though we didn't get to try. Happy that South Austin is finally seeing some nice spacious outdoor hangout spots.
