I was so excited this was opening and now I've tried it two separate times to see if my 2nd experience would be a good one. This entire place feels like a cash grab following the mezcal trend. It's positioned as being a tequila/mezcal spot but their drinks are more basic than cocktails I can order at the airport. When I asked questions about the mezcal they use and offer the bartenders replies were always dealt with either annoyance and limited info or just an "I don't know." Plus it's $$$ you tip on top of the tip they already add but say nothing about? The basic cocktails that are known as Mexican street vendor drinks (not supposed to be $$$) can cost you over $20 alone! Then to be shady about tipping ... cash grab without a good experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The there's the atmosphere... very limited parking shared with MANY other more busy bars, super loud inside because of no soft surfaces, and the worst part of all... the bench seats are built just tall enough that unless you're super tall, you'll have to sit at the edge of the bench and actively practice good posture.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This more than the other things makes me want to leave immediately. [[HIGHLIGHT]]You designed a bar to be pretty but in no way functional to its use.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's been a while since my last visit and honestly I chalked all this up to Austin's trend chasing entrepreneurs typical disconnected launch until I had AMAZING cocktails at another new spot that truly impressed with their same priced cocktails that were far far more intricate and creative PLUS they didn't try to con me out of more tip AND their space was warm, and inviting with truly exceptional customer service. That experience reminded me that inflation isn't the only thing making life more expensive ... it's also businesses delivering far less value than promised and demanding we are supremely grateful for their limited effort. If you don't want to leave the neighborhood but you still want a somewhat decent margarita .... it ain't here. Pay half the price at Bodhi's in the same parking lot. read more

Lulu's has a really great relaxing vibe that goes beyond the beautiful greenery and plants that are matched against neutral cool colors of modern rattan. There is even a neon sign that says Canta y no llores which means "sing, don't cry" from the Mexican anthem song called Ceilito Lindo. Once you hear someone sing that neon sign you WILL know the song. Its a common Mexican song that is played my mariachis. Nestled amongst three other bars, just off of Menchaca Rd past Slaughter Lane in South Austin, you will find the coolest bar - y'all it is literally icy cold in here as the the a/c is always pumping which is a very good thing for these Austin summers. The service is super prompt and friendly for any drink you are feeling when you come in. Check out their aquas fresas (fresh fruity waters) as they make them in-house and will compliment any spirit you are in the mood to mix it with. Tajin and lime are standard additions to each drink which makes you feel like you are in some secret beach hideaway off a Mexican beach. Parking is a thing here on the weekends as it gets full fast (remember there are other bars that share the lot too) so just take a ride share here. You can have as many drinks you would like to have and can just get home worry-free after. Besides the driveway out of the lot can be tricky as there is cross traffic on both sides you got to worry about if you want to head back up towards Slaughter and Menchaca Rd. Plus it is dark as heck out there. Checking out their blackboard at the entrance Lulu's has a themed-night every night here for both the week and weekend. The last few times we have been here they have a fantastic DJ bumping great danceable music and the vibes outside patio and upstairs patio allows you to take a break and catch up with the other friends you brought in with you. I visited Lulu's during the Latin Food Festival. They were offering the cantarito with the purchase of a palomita. The tequila pour was a little light. It tasted more of soda than tequila but a refreshing drink nonetheless during a hot day. The live music upstairs was amazing and really set the tone for a fun food, music, and cultural festival. I look forward to coming back to Lulu's for their free salsa and bachata lessons on Sundays. read more

Drinks were delish but I won't be back. Gratuity was added, which I am fine with except, when the screen was flipped around it appears you still need to pay gratuity which was selected for 30%. I changed it to 20% because also you are ordering at a counter and taking the drink to your table. It wasn't until the transaction was complete that I was aware that I basically ended up tipping $60 on a $100 worth of drinks. Also, the amount you are tipping on includes their added gratuity, so I tipped on my tip. Super shady. read more

We were planning to get dinner elsewhere, so unfortunately had to skip on the food truck (which actually looks pretty good!). Instead, we ordered two drinks, a palomita and cucumber lime agua fresca. Both were made to look super cute and were fortunately also very tasty. Also, the prices were reasonable compared to what you get closer to downtown, especially during happy hour ($2 off). I love the Agua Frescas, fresh and flavorful added tequila to the drinks. I tried the Watermelon and the Pineapple one. I would say drinks are solid. Did not get to try the food. Few things, the bartender charged us different amounts for the drinks claiming "happy hour" but we ordered them at the same time so that didn't make sense. Seating is very limited, wish they had more room for people to sit at.
