Matcha
Kayla J.

Super cute inside and out! It has like a hard rock theme with some Hispanic spice. I know it's know for the Colombian coffee but DO NOT ORDER the matcha. It's took exactly 15mins for the drink to be made, the matcha taste very old and has a burnt taste to it. I only order this one drink and it's was $8.15 which is crazy! I really wanted this to taste good especially because of the price but it definitely was disappointment. The honey and the lavender aren't very sweet, which is is pretty nice so it doesn't feel like you're drinking sugar, but the taste of the Matcha was just so old it overpowered the whole thing and I have clumps of Matcha that weren't mixed. I have not tried the food or any other drinks so the one star is just based on overall experience and poor tasing drink.

Veggie EMPANADA TRIO

My partner and I love the empanadas here and think they're the best we've ever had!! We've tried chicken, steak and veggie and they're all amazing. We brought people who visit us in Austin here to try and they loved em too! The ambiance is nice too.. Very vibrant! Highly recommend this place.

EMPANADA TRIO

I went here years ago and forgot the name, so when I drove past Plaza Colombian Coffee the other day I immediately decided to turn in because I've thought about it for years. I ordered the empanadas trio for $6 (happy hour special) and picked up some freshly ground coffee beans to enjoy at home. The steak empanada had a satisfying, savory flavor, but my favorite was the chicken--cheesy, stewed chicken filling that was incredibly flavorful. Their fresh, house-made sauce tied the flavors together nicely. The employees were friendly and patient, giving me plenty of time to explore the menu. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, along with a drive-thru if you're in a rush. The interior is colorful and nice, with a stage for live music and other events.

A hidden gem on S Congress! Located littler further south, away from the hustle and bustle, is this cute Colombian coffee shop, bar, restaurant and entertainment venue. I went to work remote and grab a coffee but ended up getting food as well because the menu looked so good(I'm a sucker for empanadas). Thoughts? Good for working remote if that's what you're looking for but will say the music is a little loud so definitely not good for taking meetings but strong WiFi. The coffee is solid with a diverse menu and their chicken empanadas? Delicious! They also have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and they have a drive thru! I also see that they have bachata nights with live music. Will definitely come back to experience it and for their empanadas too of course.

My partner and I had a dance practice in South Austin so we decided to stop by this place for a quick Colombian bite since we were in the area. We also met up with a friend who enjoys snacking and grabbing coffee here since she lives nearby. The inside this place is like a cafe where you can get some coffee while you study. The outside has multiple levels of seating and its sandy, an outdoor bar and has more of a tiki vibe. They also have live music and salsa dancing on certain nights. This place is unique because they can have a coffee shop by day and an outdoor night party scene by night. The Sexy Colada was delicious and I enjoyed the presentation. I also liked the taste of the beef arepa and the empanada. My family is Colombian so I'll say that even though it doesn't necessarily taste like a homemade arepa or empanada, if you're looking for a quick snack then this will hit the spot.

Another place that has been sitting on my list for so long; I've passed this place dozens of times and always say I should check it out, well I finally did! and glad I did because they have a really nice covered patio, and some indoor space that each seem suited well for live music/dj. They have a bar inside, and a bunch of gluten free options, as well as coffee. We of course tried some of each and really enjoyed everything we got. It's nice and clean inside, the staff were friendly and the food was quick, all reasonably priced and in a great location with some decent street parking, which isn't always easy to find on Congress. Definitely need to go back and try some more of their food/drinks.

I had to write about Plaza Columbia again because I am addicted! They have the best espresso martini. Their happy hour is awesome with food specials. This is a great spot for coffee and pastry as well. You have to try the Playa burger and if you are a fan of ceviche, they have a really good one.

An iced latte with hair

1 star for the drive-thru, 1 star for the enjoyment I would've had if there weren't a hair in my drink. Drive thru wait time, in spite of a nearly empty parking lot, was a bit excessive. Then to get a hair in my drink, no way am I going back and waiting for it to be remade. Just threw my money away.

Steak empanada, trio

I haven't really explored this area of austin, but I work nearby and needed coffee and lunch. I ordered at the drive thru and got steak empanadas and I think I got a latte with colombian arequipe. I was torn between that and the sweet bee and houston bogota. I will definitely be going back. Food was good, and the drink I got was great. I needed something quick and filling, and this 100% hit the spot.

It's challenging to replicate the same experience locally, as these restaurants lack access to the fresh, local ingredients that define their unique cuisine. Casa Colombia does a good job replicating a true Colombian dining experience. Their menu is extensive with some very interesting offerings. Scanning the dining room, I noticed that their portions are huge. We started with a shrimp cocktail, an empanada, and their version of a rum - mango martini. The small option for the shrimp cocktail was bountiful and easily shared. The housemade cocktail sauce was a perfect accompaniment. The empanada was a tad dry, but their spicy salsa sauce was a great addition. Our "martini" was sweet but very satisfying on a warm afternoon. We did want to try their ceviche, but they are using tilapia as their fish. Quality Seafood is not too far away, and I'm sure that they could offer a better-tasting white fish than plain ole tilapia. We split one of their house specials, the Bandeja Paisa Tipica. This is a traditional Colombian dish, and it is a meat lover's dream served on an oversized platter. Our platter arrived with a chorizo link, beef sirloin, rice, red beans with pork, a huge fried chicharrón, an arepa, a sweet plantain, a slice of avocado (well, there's the only healthy portion), and a fried egg on top. We struggled to eat about 70% of this feast. It's going to take a few visits to the gym to work off this lunch. Dis & Dat: Parking is a breeze as they have their own parking lot. They do offer a happy hour that begins at 3 PM. A definite 4-plus star experience.

A very cool place. *…read more* * Four Points has developed multiple food court locations around the intersection of 620 and 2222. One of them is the heavily Colombian food court where Ninja Chicken is located. One Colombian group seems to own multiple food trucks in the court - even though the truck names are different and the menus are different. Cooks go back and forth between the related trucks bringing supplies. All of the relevant personnel are Colombian. If they are as good as Ninja Chicken, they are fine fine trucks. * * * How Colombian is Colombian here? a) This is a Spanish only location. The truck signs are in English and that is where the English stops. When I ordered in English, it was clear nobody was understanding me. (They were trying hard). I got the wrong thing. Fortunately the wrong thing was wonderful. (Fried cheese pastries with strawberry dip.) I was happy to have the pastries. b) There are many many Colombians here eating. I only saw one other Anglo person - a middleaged Texas lady linked to the relevant church. (More on the church later). c) ON SATURDAY AFTERNOONS, THERE IS A COLOMBIAN BAND PLAYING TROPICALE. Keep in mind that food trucks in South America often come with entertainment. Entertainment is often a guy with an electric console and a ton of loops playing whatever instruments he knows how to play with synthesized backup. That's what this guy was doing. He was good on all of his instruments. I could have listened all day. d) Some of the trucks are associated with El Camino, a Spanish language church on 620. There was a giant pavilion with El Camino signs on the pavilion. There were people wearing El Camino badges in case you wanted to have a dedicated conversation about Christianity. Most of the El Camino people were Colombians. They had an Anglo lady in reserve in case you needed to talk about Christianity in English. El Camino has a very cool slogan " The perfect church for imperfect people." That slogan is right up there on the truck. * * * Good Colombian food. Good Colombian music. Colombian families everywhere. This could have been Queens New York - the epicenter of American Colombian food. Except everything else was Texan. Check the place out. Bring your Spanish dictionary to help with the ordering.
