Shockingly most restaurants close early in Austin during the weekdays. We were there on a Wednesday night for a show at The Theater. The show let out at 10 pm, then we went to grab a drink after. We realized everything we looked up was closing soon at 11. We couldn't find anything! We decided to walk on 6th street to find something to eat. They had $1 wings here! Luckily for me they could substitute for cauliflower!!!! Score! We went and got 6 lemon pepper cauliflower wings. Almost perfection! They were warm, crunchy, seasoned, so good. The only issue was that they were very salty. It got to the point where I had to take the coating off and just get the cauliflower alone. They were still so good, I just couldn't handle the salt. On dirty 6th street you'll find BBG's on the north side of the street. For all things sports bar you'd want. A big long bar and lots of seating and room for mingling. Drinks were flowing and at a reasonable price. Nothing bougie but tasty and real. Food was good too with the chicken and other nibbles. The owner Sarah is so nice and friendly. I'll be coming here to watch the World Cup. So many screens! read more

For food, I think your best bet when coming here is on a day when they have a good deal for the food you want. Wednesday was $1 wings so that was well worth it. The buffalo ranch wings were great. Tater tats were perfectly fried. My gf got the cauliflower wings with lemon pepper but unfortunately those were a bit too salty. The bartender was very friendly and checked in on us throughout. Drink was kinda pricey for what I got. The bar wasn't too lively but we were there on a weekday. Weekends are more popular on 6th. read more

Harrison was behind the bar and was an absolute pleasure, the kind of bartender who you hope to get when you walk into a new place, I'm from out of town and he made me feel right at home. BBG's is one of the few sports bars on dirty sixth. It is a great atmosphere and you will be surrounded by TVs. They have your typical sports bar menu items. I tried the nachos and wings. They have several different flavors of wings I highly enjoyed those. The nachos were ok and was a little disappointed on. We were drawn in by the Mac and Cheese Egg Rolls/Cheese burger filled. They were pretty tasty and the Chipotle Aioli was a good match. Had lunch here while in town for a conference. It's one of the "cleaner" bars on 6th Street and Actually serves food too. Probably a great place to stay cool, have a few drinks and watch a game on one of their 20 something TVs that are mounted all around the restaurant not just at the bar. No problems with service here, bartender and the hostess were friendly and attentive. I ordered a Burger with tots, honestly when it came out I was not that impressed and not expecting much but it turned out to be a really good burger. In finding a place to escape the heat on 6th Street and enjoy a cold drink, I guided my wife into BBG's. It looked like a sports bar and not too rough for her. We anchored ourselves at the end of the bar and menus were handed to us. This was a surprise where all the bars I hung out were drinks only. The menu has some decent items in it but we were not hungry and ordered a mixed drink. However my wife had other plans where she ordered Sweet Potato Fries. This place had numerous TVs showings sports and the nice bartenders made sure were happy. The sweet potato fries arrived and were cut thick nicely seasoned. It tasted great and perfect choice for our mid day appetizer. This was a cool bar where the atmosphere is great and appeals to those who enjoy the sports bar experience. So this review is more about the potential of the place than its current iteration. So apparently this bar is only a few months old. I arrived on a Tuesday afternoon to kill some time before I could check in to my Airbnb. This bar is connected to an adjacent bar/restaurant which is kinda interesting. There is a ton of TVs here so it seems quite perfect for sports game. Add to the fact that you can get a nice breeze inside by opening the windows and by having high ceilings and that's even better. Happy Hour starts at 3pm which is pretty awesome. The pricing is quite solid, at least from my perspective. 1/2 off beers in HHs is awesome. At the moment, the bar isn't as fully stocked as it should be. There are no taps, which normally would bring it a few notches down from other nearby spots. There should also be a proper setup for cans/bottles of beer as well as the hard liquor. However, I give it 4 stars because it seems as if changes are coming soon. Also, the bartender (Claudia?) was pretty nice and was great at offering suggestions for local beers as well as some sightseeing tips (This was my first time in Austin). I don't know when I'll be back, but I'm assuming this bar will be great by then. It would have been sick to just tear down the wall behind the bar to create a huge wrap-around bar between both establishments, but don't think that's possible. read more

I was with a group of people for some Sunday football. LOVE that they had just about every single game on throughout the bar. Service was pretty good considering how busy they get. However, I was not a big fan of the food. The tots were a little on the salty side. The mac n cheese eggrolls was lacking any cheese flavor. Walked in with 4 people and as more of my friends walked in as the night went on our party got bigger but I was on my own tab with 3 other friends. They tried to charge me a large party gratuity because I was with a group and not based off of who I was paying for (their large party gratuity is for 6 or more people) the bartender with long hair and the tattoo on her arm was very rude when I came up confused and asked why I was being charged the gratuity. she said that's just how it is downtown when I am an austin native so i've never heard of this and only at high end restaurants have I ever seen that type of gratuity downtown. read more

Lately all I want to do is eat tater tots and sleep. Fortunately I just got a new bike to counter that... or enable that? It's now easier for me to explore even farther around my new neighborhood and when I saw BBG's has loaded tots, I added them to my list. Tonight, I headed out on my bike, intending to go somewhere else for dinner. However BBG's was on my way and I peeked in. Easy to do because it has an inviting, open layout, right off of the sidewalks of 6th st. Their speakers were playing 2000s alt rock, and that sold me. For being a sports bar, it was calm and nobody appeared to be paying any attention to the many muted TVs showing various sports. It seemed like the few of us here just wanted to get out of the house on a Monday evening like me. Fortunately I found a comfortable padded seat where I'd be able to properly unwind and savor my food. For being on "Dirty Sixth" it was far from dirty. It seems like it was remodeled within the past decade, or at least has been well-maintained. It's like they found a way to keep all the good aspects of a dive bar and none of the diveyness. The server took my order promptly. As planned, I got the loaded tots. I also got garlic parm wings as a whim, since they were offering a 5 for $5 deal. The tots were generous, both because it was a big base layer of tots, then topped with more than enough queso, melted cheese, bacon and scallions. These are a winner and I'll be back for them! The wings weren't such a hit. They were hard and the sauce was unappetizing. When I said so, the server offered to take them off my order. Definitely the right move! This was a good place to come to indulge in some junk food and take in a bit of 6th st. activity. I saw a few other people ordering the tots too, so you know they're a a popular item. Now it's time to bike home and promptly fall into a food coma and probably do the same kind of thing all over again tomorrow. read more

What a place! Walked in excited to watch some football, get a drink and some grub! Little did we all know we walked into the worst establishment I've ever went into. I don't wanna make this long but I will...we got our drinks ordered...20 minutes went bye and we still hadn't gotten our order taken. I had to walk over to ask the waiter to come take our order. Another 20 minutes went bye, no check up or refills of our drinks. You look over...the bartender was sucking a lollipop wondering who she be trying to take home. The waiter was flirting hard hoping it was him. The second waiter was standing there talking wondering when he was going to catch the next wave, and I say this..but the "manager" was standing there chatting with them and then continued to FaceTime his BFF. Still no drink, no food...there was 6 of us at a table. I requested for the manager...he walks over and I pursued a nice route...he literally listened and said who's your waiter which we told him, and then just walked away. Didn't take accountability for the bad service, but at the same time our food finally showed up after 65 minutes...also know we were the first table to order food.."bar food" and we made the comment we wanted our checks before the food had even touched the table. Then the manager comes out and says y'all ordered the food and have to pay and quote...said "that's wild". Then continued to not take accountability and called my wife "mean" because we were showing frustration! He then sucked his teeth as we said well I guess you need to get the cops involved because we're not paying. He pursued that route and immediately came back and said look guys we don't want to get the cops involved. Fun facts, if you're looking for a good drink, food and some sports...this ain't the place. We got here late as we were traveling and staying near 6th street. The service was good. The drinks were good. The food was standard bar food. I will say I did love how fast the food came out bc we were definitely starving after a day of traveling. This was an unexpected visit because during Covid dining in has NOT been a part of my plans. I'm so glad it was a pleasant experience. The server did a great job even though it seemed he was alone.
