Ok, so I'll start by saying that I am not typically a fan of Irish Pubs but I really enjoyed this one when a friend proposed we go here after encountering lines at a couple of S 1st options. I'll start by complimenting the staff! Everyone we encountered - bar tender, server both - had a great sense of humor and were a pleasure to engage with. They treated us to a round of shots after we had a few rounds. Generally the vibe of the crowd is very friendly and we made some new friends to hang with part of the evening. The reason I'm writing this review is because of the TERRIBLE SERVICE. Dining out should be a pleasurable experience, especially since it's become so expensive. Regardless of the food or ambiance the server is the face of the establishment. Bad service can easily lead to a bad review. In this case the waitress, when she finally showed up, was not friendly. She was indifferent, like we were bothering her, and had a borderline RUDE attitude. The clincher was her assumption on who was paying the bill. We waited a good ten minutes for her to initially show up. When she got to the table the first thing she asked for was a credit card to cover the drinks we ordered; which I thought was strange since our family was sitting at a table and ordering dinner. After the food was delivered she never returned to check on us. Other servers had to get us refills and were happy to do so. When she finally returned at the end of the meal with the bill , all smiles of course, she had already run the credit card without ever giving us the bill to review??? The card she asked for, for the drinks, was NOT meant to pay the bill. We were going to split the bill but since she already ran the card the cardholder didn't feel comfortable asking her to rerun the card. This was VERY awkward!! None of us have EVER experienced anything like this ever!! I wish I had gotten her name. I'm giving a 2 star review because everyone though the food was good. read more

Kelly's Irish Pub is an easy 5 stars from me, and it feels extra fitting to shout them out on St. Paddy's Day. I went a few weeks ago for my friend's birthday on their back patio, and it was the perfect spot for a chill celebration. The Guinness was fresh (no sad, flat pours here), the fish and chips were thick, crispy, and super satisfying, and the service was more than a-plenty the whole night. It's the kind of place where you can actually relax, hang out, and hear your friends without sacrificing fun vibes. Just stopped and had a quick beer on their outside patio. Love this place as a neighborhood hangout. With the fans going and soccer on, it was hopping on a Tuesday night. I think I found a new favorite bar! I've always passed by Kelly's and been meaning to try it out. Finally went on a random Thursday evening. All the staff is super nice and attentive. I love the ambiance. It was fun and we sat in a cozy booth. Every booth has their own fan they can control. Different, but cool lol we immediately turned ours off cuz we were cold, but each booth had a cute lil pillow to keep warm with. Very large selection of whiskey and at pretty decent price points. I was in whiskey heaven! We weren't super hungry so we got to apps to share. The Onion Rings and Shep Bites. I like the Shep Bites better and paired well with the sauce. Went to Kelly's Irish Pub to meet my girlfriends for a social gathering. The neighborhood pub is a great place for a meet up and is authentic and cozy with friendly staff, great Guinness and serves traditional Irish food amongst other favorites. We were able to reserve tables in the front of the pub for the gathering. There was plenty of space and the seating was comfortable. There were numerous TVs in the space broadcasting the football playoff games. The service was very attentive and friendly. The pace of the dining experience was timely except it did take some time to receive the food after ordering. Our party started off with Shep Bites with Fried Shepherd's Pie Rice Balls with Guinness braised Lamb, Rice, Dubliner Cheese & Tomato and an order of beer battered onion rings and Kelly's special sauce and shared amongst the table. For my entree, I ordered the Fish and Chips with Crispy Beer battered Atlantic Cod, Tartar, Lemon, Kelly's Peas & Home cut Chips. The batter was very crust and flavorful and the portion size was generous. It was served with steak cut French fries that were crispy and filling. I ordered a custom cocktail margarita with mezcal and muddled black cherries and it was. A hit. I ended up ordering two more. There was a bit of an up charge to add the black cherries but it was totally worth it. I went to Kelly's on a random Tuesday for lunch and it was great! Very busy which made food service a bit slow but it was worth it. I got the fish and chips w/ a side of curry gravy. Having been to Ireland numerous times, I'm always skeptical of America's versions of Irish pubs. Gotta say, Kelly's is a-ok. Pretty great even. They have breaded and fried Shepherds Pie rice balls. They are incredibly delicious! They do proper Scotch Eggs and sausage rolls. Packed with flavor and perfectly seasoned. Bangers and mash are killer are is the Shepherds Pie and fish & chips. Kelly's has been on our radar for quite a while. Even though my name ends in a vowel, I enjoy Irish pubs from Boston, New York, Chicago, and Dublin. I am pleased to report that Kelly's is the real deal. There is limited parking up front and another lot in the back. Kelly's appears small when you first walk in, with a small bar, a few tables, and booths. There is a larger bar in the back, a large covered patio, and a stage. On this Sunday there was an Irish/Tex band playing. Plus 1 ordered the fish and chips, and I ordered the Irish stew. The fish and chips were battered lightly, and the cod was fried to flaky perfection. My lamb stew was rich, and the toasted ciabatta bread was great for sopping up that delicious broth. They do have a full bar, and they pour a proper Guinness pint. If you're coming with a gang, they do accept reservations. First time but not the last time we will be visiting Kelly's! read more

Friends told me about this place awhile ago, so I'm so glad we got to check it out. Parking out front is a little tricky, but surprise! There is parking on the street behind the pub. One person used the waiter who came to the table, but it took forever for their drinks to come. Nice staff. Several are actually from Ireland. The food was very good. Oh the dilemma of where to eat on Good Friday of Lent in the 78704.... I was starving from fasting and craving a good fish and chips so my husband mentioned this place was within walking distance. Fish and chips were on point. We ordered 3 for the table (hubby & I and two young kiddos). All were consistently cooked. You make wonder why this matters, but I've been places where i ordered fried fish and one was not all the way cooked. The batter was perfect thinness - inviting the perfect crunch. Fish was clean tasting if ya know what I mean. Portion size was decent. And those peas!!! What in the ??? is on those peas? I don't even like peas y'all and I was eating peas off of all 3 plates. And then I was drinking whatever the remaining sauce was in the ramekins. So back to my kid comment - yes we brought our kiddos to a pub. It is for sure a legit pub vibe when you walk in. We were lucky to get a table right by the entrance which seemed less pubby lol. I really enjoyed my visit to Kelly's Irish pub. The bartender Brian was excellent. I had a delicious espresso martini and a Moscow mule. The fish and chips came out quickly and didn't disappoint. They were crispy and light and are served with peas. Nice touch! According to the bartender, this place is pretty busy during the day Sunday and then calms down in the evening but on most nights it's busy in the evening. So I had been here before it was a different restaurant before which was really good too, but I have to say they did a good job on this one. It is fairly small for the amount of people that try and go. But the place is really cute. The staff is really nice and the majority of them do come from Ireland, so it's so cute to have their accents. I will say though that the service did take a while we did have to hunt down for a server, but then once we got one, he was very nice, but we will say the bar does overly take long on getting drinks. The food was pretty quick and it was OK. It wasn't that great. You can tell that It's not authentic. But when you're really hungry and drinking, it does the trick. I would probably go back just to sit at the bar and have drinks because it is a fun ambience, but I personally wouldn't order the food again. read more

Absolutely incredible food. While this is the only Irish pub I've been to in Austin, I've had Irish food in Dublin and this holds up. I've also visited before on St. Patrick's Day: despite the rowdy crowd, the food was still great. Both visits I ordered the bangers and mash, and it is consistently savory, well-balanced, and they use high quality sausage. We have tons of love for Galway Bay Irish Restaurant and Pub in Annapolis, Maryland! We go there every year during the Annapolis Sailboat Show! Fast toward to today: Hubby had a hankering for a proper Irish Breakfast like he's had at that Annapolis spot this morning, and I stumbled upon Kelly's Irish Pub on Yelp as a place that makes a great one, so here we are! They open at 2pm, but they serve all day brekkie, so we're golden. We honestly feel like we've walked straight from Austin into Ireland, y'all! The vibe is dark, cozy, and spot on excellent. A Euro2024 game is on right now, and the lads here are deeply invested! It's awesome! I got a mimosa, and darling hubby got a Guinness, natch! We ordered Shep Bites to start, and that aforementioned Irish Breakfast for him, and the turkey Sunday Roast for your girl! The Shep Bites were delicious! Little balls of fried Shepherd's Pie glory, and the sauce that accompanied them is freakin' yummy! Mustardy and horseradish- y! Perfect with them! I'm not going to list everything that's on the Irish Breakfast or Turkey Sunday Roast because there's a ton of stupid amazing stuff, but I did take close ups of the listings on the menu, so check my pictures! As for how they tasted, picture is as cartoon characters with our heads exploding! The turkey Sunday Roast is the best Thanksgiving meal of your life, and you can have that in June! Who knew! One of the waitstaff at Phoebe's Diner highly recommended the food at Kelly's. Giving it two stars for decent flavors and the fact that my guest enjoyed it. Roommate had fish n chips that appeared way overfried-fried to me. I had the Scotch Egg which was tiny and way overfried. Side of Irish soda bread was two tiny slivers of dry, flavorless nothingness. Side of peppercorn sauce was good. Side of Guinness brown gravy was not. The Irish stew rice balls were equally overfried and odd. Service was terrible and inattentive. Our young Irish waiter mumbled a lot and had other things to do rather than attend to us. He also tried to demand we put a credit card on hold, up front!!, when we were seated to dine in at a booth and were not consuming any alcoholic beverages. THE GOOD ***************************************************************** The Guinness was flowing good this past weekend. Very tasty. As good as back home in Ireland; County Queens, NYC. The food was delicious. The chicken sandwich had a ton of flavor. I never order a chicken sandwich anywhere, but why not. I did not go wrong today. Tasty. Onion rings are OUTSTANDING. Thin, crispy, not greasy; absolutely delicious... Kelly's Irish Pub is a very comfortable design bar/restaurant. Outdoor seating front area and back. Booths. Two bars. The design team was on point here with space configuration. Two dart boards. I believe Darts are in order on Monday nights. Maybe a league? Some guy chatted with my wife and me on Saturday. Find out later his name is Jimmy. Part of ownership? Management? Definitely, an asset. Knows his way around a new bar. Customer contact A++. THE BAD ***************************************************************** There were a few hiccups this past Sunday afternoon; but not the end of the world. Things happen. That's ok; just address the issue. Which comes to... THE UGLY ***************************************************************** While the hiccups were addressed. I was made to feel uncomfortable in the process of fixing the hiccups. I have been involved in one way or another in the bar and restaurant business since I was a kid; 50 years plus. Body language, facial expression, hand placement, and verbiage are tell-tell signs. I could see the back bar bartender and manager were, for lack of a better word, pissy with me last Sunday afternoon. I got the "Why are you bothering me today look ". All were very professional and proper. But y'all know the feeling. Then we have the biggie with my experience in how the hiccups were handled. No one said; my bad, sorry dude, tá brón orm, etc. Will the sun rise tomorrow? yes. But, in a new bar/restaurant all customers that walk in that door are a precious commodity. Cultivating "the regular" is a must in an Irish Bar. The bar has to be part of the community. A simple apology would have been nice. OVERALL ***************************************************************** I will be back. I like Kelly's. I like having a couple of pints with the lads. I like the warmth and hospitality of an Irish Bar. I like the banter of anything and everything on a beautiful day with a pint of Guinness. I want to Love Kelly's Irish Bar.
