How I long for days when I was a kid in the tristate area and my family would meet my grandmother at the pub after church. We would enjoy some great soup and crackers while mom and dad would take grandma out for a pint. This place feels like a slice of a memory I'll always cherish.... Drop in and find a seat fast as this place gets packed up quick. On cold days I prefer to hunker down here with their amazing chicken pot pie and a Guinness. The bar is long and nestles a few round ends that make it the main attraction for me. The seating is plenty but did I say it gets busy fast? Parking isn't bad however don't be surprised if you have to street park and wander up. Fish and Chips are a generous portion, their burger has to be one of the best in town, and did I say they can pour a proper Guinness? Yes they can! There is something on the menu for about anyone and they do not skimp on a thing. All the items are prepared fresh and I could stay here all night if it wasn't for the bill which can add up fast here. I would say it is reasonably priced for the portion however I wouldn't mind it if the portions were a tad smaller for a reduced price. Stepping in here you will be reminded of the Irish Pubs and even lose any sense that you are in Austin. It is a legit establishment with attention to the details. The bar staff are great and the grey-haired pony tailed guy in the Le Cog Sportif attire was a chill dude who makes you feel at home. I wish they had soccer on 24-7 however I will settle for the awesome music they play here. I think this place is a great replacement to what was here and the bar out back is perfect on a good day. Came in on a Saturday around 6 PM for a dinner for 5 and were able to luckily find a table as a walk in since there were no available reservations online. Our server was super sweet and attentive. Took our orders right away and food came out in no time! Captured photos of a few of our meals. The Fish and Chips comes with a massive fish the length of the plate! One person could definitely share this and still be full. We would have preferred the batter to not be so thick, but it had good taste with the little sprinkle of vinegar on each bite. The Reuben sandwich was also filling and perfect to share. It came originally with a side of fries, but we opted for a Cesar salad. Ended up charging an extra $3. The salad was so large and very delicious. Would definitely order again. The Reuben bread wasn't too thick and crispy with each bite. Lots of cheese pulls, meat was tender with flavor and the sauerkraut gave it that perfect hint of sour flavor. I really enjoyed the ambiance. It was a full house, but not overly loud for a bar and felt cozy with the dim lighting. Our table had a birthday to celebrate. They brought over a complimentary mini espresso martini and dessert to share. I don't know the name, but I believe iit had ice cream and lady fingers with chocolate drizzle on top. I heard from my coworker that this place was really good and I felt it was just ok. I made a reservation and came with a group of four. We started with beef tartare, which I really enjoyed! Honestly, I have yet to have bad beef tartare so my enjoyment was to be expected. It comes with saltine crackers, which paired perfectly with the beef. BUT, the first server who put the dish on the table accidentally dropped one of the crackers on the table and I was expecting at least some kind of apology but they didn't acknowledge it or didn't care. They just left it and went away lol. From there, I felt that the other dishes fell short. The goulash (I actually didn't know what that was, but it's featured on the menu) is just macaroni that I can easily make at home. The ravioli was ok, but also nothing special. I didn't try my friend's burger but the extra bacon ($3 more) was so salty. The meal was overall mediocre and I didn't care to see the dessert menu. I'm a hugeeee dessert fan so that's pretty rare. It's cool how the main server gave us a bucket of caramel hard candies though. Also, it took the main server forever to check up on us. Water is self serve and comes from a pitcher at the table but we ran out of it pretty quickly since a lot of the dishes were salty. Water was not filled and it took forever to get our check. A classic tavern with American food! They have a small parking lot that fits about 10 cars but I was able to find free street parking around the corner no problem. Ambiance is great, I would recommend making a reservation if you want a table at a booth, otherwise it's high tops. I got the "Goop" burger which was their caramelized french onion cheese on top a burger. Honestly the burger was one of the smallest I've seen at a restaurant - even Whataburger's burgers are bigger. I think I might've enjoyed the Tavern burger better because it would come with all the toppings. The portion of fries was good. I added the thick cut bacon which was flavorful but too salty for my taste. Our waiter was nice but service missed the mark a bit and wasn't super consistent - they would refill our water sometimes and other times they'd just hand us another jug, and a couple of our plates were cleared but not all. If I were to come back, it'd be for their specials of the steak frites or half off burger (Wednesday and Monday respectively I believe). read more

Meh. Came in for an offline offer and I don't think it was worth visiting/coming back. I do like the ambiance, the mood lighting and decorations were decent but I think the dining table is a bit too small for four people (felt like you are sitting so close to each other and running out of space for food). The service was not great. The server dropped one of the saltine crackers and didn't even acknowledge it and left without saying anything. We kept running out of water because the food was so salty but no one seemed to care to give us more water without deliberately asking for it. The beef tartare was probably the most "alright" dish, the taste surprisingly reminds me of salsa - it combines well with saltine crackers. However, the main courses were such a let down. The grandma's goulash tasted like I can make it easily at home. The ravioli was a bit too salty and there weren't that many in there as well. Their prime rib was the star of the show - a juicy masterpiece that had me singing carols of joy with every bite. Tender enough to cut with a candy cane and seasoned to holiday perfection, it was like unwrapping the meatiest gift imaginable. The vibe? Cozy as Grandma's living room, but with cocktails that'd make even Santa blush. Speaking of which, their dirty martini was naughty and nice in all the right ways. Murray's may be the new kid on Austin's block, but they're carving out a reputation faster than you can say "Rudolph." Arrived at 7:15p for a 7:30p reservation, and the host was nice enough to give us the option of either sitting at a table top or wait at the bar for our table at the patio. We chose to sit at the table top. Ambience - it was pretty loud in the bar, definitely had to shout with my fellow diner. Nothing that the establishment could do about it, but just a heads up if you decide that you also would like to sit at the table tops inside. Food - ordered the steak tartare, french fries, chicken pot pie, and the prime roast - everything was hot, well flavored, and super tasty, only problem was the mains (roast, and the pot pie) took close to 40-50 minutes to come up after our entree. I had to ask one of the runners to see where the food was. Definitely try the steak tartare, the saltines definitely add a little texture and saltiness to the meat. Service - now this is where things were BRUTAL. The host sat us at the high top, and we waited about 20 minutes before the host came around and at least dropped us some water. I had to ask the host if there was a server for our table after about 30 minutes. The first round of drinks were pretty slow, and then my second drink took nearly 30 minutes. We watched our server enjoy long conversations with other tables, but for some reason neglected us. I had to ask who I believe was our manager to see if they could check on my 2nd drink. It wasn't like our server was super overwhelmed by the big parties, it just seemed like they didn't care about our table, which was extremely disappointing. Also I witnessed a staff person walk out of the shared bathrooms without washing their hands, and I mentioned it to the manager, which they replied "oh there is a sink behind the bar", whether that's true or not, no idea if they actually washed their hands despite their being a large sign on the bathroom mirror stating "all employees must wash their hands". I guess I'll have to give them the benefit of the doubt. I definitely won't be coming back and maybe you should re-think your next option for your dinner out. read more

After ogling over Murray's food pics on insta for what seems like over a year, I finally decided to take my steak lovin' hubs here for a birthday surprise dinner. First I must say the ambiance was job well done. You first walk in like... oh nice, what a clean tavern. Few steps further into the dining area and you're like... whoa! who would have thought you you could class up a tavern?! Like a gamesman sporty classy if that makes any sense. Steak Frites Night was the reason we came but let me tell you the other dishes rose to the occasion. The hubs upgraded to the prime rib which does also upgrade price, but every bite was still worth it. The portions for the prime rib and pasta were quite generous. With 2 younger kiddos, myself, and husband, we still had leftovers to go home. Speaking of having kiddos at a tavern you ask? We went at early dinner time so I feel like it was still conducive to a family vibe. You know a good restaurant when you're writing a review and can't wait to go back. A group of 10 of us came to Murray's to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were sat in a private seating area in the back, which was perfect, because we ended up being a little loud! Service was very attentive, and our server made several recommendations from the menu. We ended up getting a few snacks for the table before all ordering entrees. We ordered several rounds of Guinness, of course, and were happy to learn that if you split the G correctly, the closest person gets a free pint. We got pretty competitive end ended up with several free pints by the end of the night! Parking was easy to find for free on the street. The portions of food were surprisingly good, so I ended up taking half of my goulash home. The burger, which is what my partner ordered, was tasty, and I ended up snacking on some of his fries. Murray's Tavern is a hidden gem. I go here frequently for their Steak Night Wednesday. They offer Steak (medium rare), French fries, and a Martini every Wednesday from 5PM until sold out. You can make a reservation for a low seating table, or go to the bar / high rise tables at a first come first serve basis. Wait times can vary but I've normally been able to get a seat, with no reservations, within 10-15 min of waiting. There is a private paid parking lot conveniently outside the tavern, where you pay approximately $5 for two hours of parking. Street parking is available for free as well. The oysters and cheese bread are great appetizers while you snack on before your entree. Dimmed relax lighting, chill vibes, and great food. Give them a try! read more

From the dark wood panelling to the friendly service, this place seemed perfectly primed for what I was looking for: a relaxed bar that offered tasty cocktails and a moderately quiet spot to read for a bit before the evening rush. Ordering at the bar was a snap, and I liked that they offered a varied happy hour and mini cocktails. Knowing that I could sample a few cocktails without committing to sizable amount of alcohol was a plus, and I enjoyed mini versions of the Little Italy (which was similar to the classic Manhattan) and an espresso martini. This is a place to go for cocktails and vibes. Do not go for the food; it is terrible. The place is tucked in to a side street and was very cozy. For a tavern, the cocktail program they offer is creative and impressive. Loved the focus on seasonal cocktails, classics with a twist, and a nice selection of mezcal. However, maybe plan to eat dinner somewhere else. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip. It was garlicky and cheesy, the highlight of the appetizer menu for us. The fish and chips were soggy. The batter was not cooked all the way through and was a glob of a mess. We asked for a burger to be cooked well (I know but it's for health reasons) and both came out bloody and rare. The service was fine and they did remove the burger from our bill. Overall, I'd say if you want a cocktail give Murray's a try, but I don't think I'll be in a rush to return again given how many great places are nearby. read more

The food leaves me wondering about the other reviews of 4+stars. Is food and service dependent on unlocking some code we didn't have? Our waiter was somewhat surly (annoyed?) very early on - and not just with our table. The waiter abruptly told me they didn't make the drink I ordered. It was clearly to get me to order a drink from the menu - a drink I didn't want. The waiter's drink refusal was so curt I thought about not ordering anything, but did try not to ruin the experience as I was dining with a friend. I drank tepid water. The host was great - very welcoming. The servers/food runners were friendly which we appreciated. My meal consisted of a small, OVERPRICED, GRISLY steak, (you can't determine HOW the steak is cooked - that was a first for me), an okay salad that was uninspiring (I took a few bites), pigs in a blanket were over cooked. I am pretty sure these same overcooked, blanketed pigs can be found in the frozen feed section of Costco or HEB. My meal was a DISASTER. I asked for a box early on (I was going to give it the raccoons on my block). I quietly regretted dining there. I didn't want to ruin it if my friend was enjoying it. My friend liked her pot pie cand the crab cake, but mentioned the crab cake was a bit "wet". Again, the host and table servers were really great, but my waiter and the food were expensively disappointing. I'm surly AF that I paid that much for that terribly small piece of meat they called a "New York strip". Over priced sub par food, unfriendly waiter - ugh. I got the mini cocktail, beef tartare, and spinach artichoke dip. The mini cocktail is definitely boozy so it's not really up my alley (I personally like very sweet drinks) but if you like stronger, more alcohol-tasting beverages, this would be for you! We ended up here rather randomly on our first evening in Austin. There's a lot happening on 6th Street, and Murray's was a nice break from the crowds. Murray's is a good pub with a great drink selection and a varied menu. The bartender was really friendly, conversational, helpful in terms of what to do locally and attentive. We had drinks, apps and food. Everything was really good, timing was great and we never felt rushed. We were really happy we found this place randomly walking around the area on our first day. This is my second time here. My first time was good, service was good, drinks were good. I don't even remember what I ordered but the rest of my party was happy with their food. It was a Saturday and we sat in the back dining room, usually reserved for dinner only from Thursdays through Sundays. You can sit yourself and no reservations taken. It was a good dinner. BUT I just got home from a delicious, satisfying, family style dinner. I really dove into the menu this time around. There were six of us for our friend's birthday. We had a little private nook right by the entrance, the music was bumping and at the right volume. Laid-back atmosphere. Our waiter, Leo, was friendly, patient, personable and just fantastic. He appeared to also be training a new coworker. He gave the birthday boy a complimentary mini espresso martini. Such a nice gesture. -We had their daily selection of northeast oysters - traditional and Rockefeller style. They come in half dozens. I preferred the traditional over the Rockefeller. -Wedge salad, I am usually not an iceberg lettuce fan unless it's in a sub...but it was fresh, flavorful, crunchy, evenly coated with the toppings and dressing. -Their two burgers with fries - the fries had that classic crispy coating. Burgers are half off on Mondays, but I'd pay full price any time for those burgers. A lot of restaurants/food establishments tend to be closed on Mondays. Not Murray's. -Beef tartare, tagliatelle, and prime rib. Everything was just on point. It was coursed out beautifully, and the food was hot. I really love that they have mini cocktails, as someone who enjoys a well crafted cocktail with a rich dinner like this, but I'm guilty of not always finishing them so mini cocktails for the win. From the moment I walked in, they treated me like I was their long-lost cousin from New Jersey (which I loved, because who doesn't want that level of attention?). It was so small I thought it was a joke at first, but one sip and I was wide awake and ready to take on the world -- or at least the rest of my meal. You MUST try the dirty negroni; that little bite of saline balance out the whole thing and makes it dangerously easy to drink. It definitely had a tavern like atmosphe The staff was friendly and nice and took our order promptly after we sat down. They had half off the Murray's burger on a Monday night which was tempting, but we opted for the prime rib which we originally came here for. The prime rib did not disappoint. It was perfectly cooked - no chewy, grizzly pieces. It melted in your mouth and the horse radish and garlic butter were super tasty. This might be the best prime rib that I can remember eating.
