We all stood up, hats off, for the Star Spangled Banner. It felt good to start the night feeling united as a crowd. Our server Ty was attentive and friendly. The servers definitely had their work cut out for them. The place was packed. The beers were cold and the food was good. I used to come here a lot when I was still playing ultimate frisbee. While most of us added their stores tots as a side. Parking limited in the front but I believe there is parking in the back as well. I ordered the chili dog loaded with onions and cheese. Again, it wasn't too shabby. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Definitely a great place to bring a group for lunch. Black Sheep Lodge is an Austin staple. That said, I don't think I ever made it over until I moved to San Antonio and I'm not sure why. We frequently stop in when we make our way into town. The service it usually really awesome. I think we've been once when our server clearly didn't want to be there or around us, not sure which. This is also a hot spot for sporting events, so plan accordingly because it can get packed! Their burgers are always juicy and delicious. The chicken tenders are my usual order and always crispy and hot. The tater tots are my must have side, but the fries are equally delicious. On my last visit, I decided to try a salad and I was not disappointed. The chicken and avocado salad was topped with a generous serving of nicely seasoned grilled chicken and avocado, and blue cheese. I was so full, gang. I've had said dog in Chicago MANY, MANY times and I can tell you Black Sheep does a decent job. My boyfriend got a cheeseburger and tater tots. That burger was HUGE! Above average spot for a burger and a beer if that's what you're looking for. Really liked the sports dive bar feel and they got a lot of room outside if the inside gets too crowded. I would have never expected to find myself at the Black Sheep Lodge, but here we are. It's the kind of spot that's hidden in plain sight on South Lamar and easy to miss unless you're looking for it. Black Sheep Lodge please don't ever change. I like you to the way you are and have been for the last 4+ years (since I did a review here). We come here to watch sports, eat good food, and hang out with our 4+ friends in a group all doing the same thing - watching our teams! Seating is first come first serve so find a spot and hold it down while your friends make their way in. Parking is limited in the back but still findable and doable if you try. I always end up finding a spot just when I think I won't. Taking a rideshare over is always my preferred way to show up just because drinks are affordable and if my team is doing well then I will drink more so be responsible and get dropped off right in front off of S. Lamar safely. Cheese curds still slam, Chicago Dog will fill you up, and their burgers are big ones so get ready to chow down. Service is always attentive and great. Our waitstaff were super cool with us and patient as we brought in more friends to join us and had to move to a larger table. We came by at lunch today and were pleasantly surprised with top tier service from our waiter, Hunter. Mid-week lunch can be a mixed bag when dining out, but we had prompt service from a happy/smiling employee, who was alert, attentive and friendly. He really made the difference in a regular visit and something that stands out. BSL is a great place to come catch the Astros game with the sound on. They have several areas you can go enjoy the game (even if they have a few dif ones on at the same time). Food was great (had the Buffalo chicken wrap). The only thing that could be better was if it was a tighter wrap. Had to handle carefully to keep it from spilling out, but flavor was on point! I went last night, the parking lot was 100% full, and the adjacent neighborhood is has signs saying "residential permit parking only" on the streets. He also charged me for ranch when every other time I had been here before I have never been charged for dipping sauces with my chicken strips. BSL has been a fixture on S. Lamar for what must be 10 yrs or so. I cannot remember exactly when they opened their doors to begin with, however it has been a welcoming venue when we pop in. Which is pretty often. They have great burgers, salads and miscellaneous specials and other munchies. Their fried pickles are some of the best we have ever noshed on. We always get this appy if we are lunching or having dinner here. One item that I actually ordered last time in, were the chicken tenders. I know, how pedestrian you may think, but actually not. After all these years, I haven't ever had them. I was surprised at this big basket of chicken and sweet potato fries. The tenders seemed almost like it was one and a half chicky breasts. The batter wasn't gooie or soft and didn't fall off after each bite. It was actually crunchy and well seasoned. The chicken was moist, not dry. The dipping sauce was a great compliment. I didn't finish them so took them with us and later in the evening, I munched on the left overs. Still yummy even cold. Usually a great sign of well fried chicken. Our server, Grace, was attentive and went to great lengths to make sure the game was on the big screen for us with volume no less in the back room. The staff worked well together as a team and we didn't lack for anything. BSL always has a great selection of craft draft beer and well made cocktails and continues to keep it charm with great service and fun patrons.
