I'm not a huge fan and truly think this should be more of a 2.5 star but since I can't do that, I rounded up to 3 stars. The place is definitely dated, but I think that is also part of the appeal for most people. It has that Old Wild West feel. It's dark inside with a ton of decor on the walls; old license plates, tons of business cards all over the ceiling (I assume from guests) and a bunch of other "stuff" or clutter if you will. The booths are divided by wooden dividers but there is a huge gap where the divider meets the bench so if someone is sat at the booth next to you, all you can see is their...laps! And, if they happen to have purses or belongings that they put on the bench next to them, beware, it WILL end up at your table because there is nothing stopping it from sliding through the gap! My husband had a ladies purse in his lap throughout our entire meal! No, not really, but pretty dang close. It was definitely on our side of the wall. Ladies be ware, especially if you carry a purse and put it next to you, it may end up at the next table over, watch out for stray hands reaching through! The food was OK. Decent enough but certainly not great. It's also very challenging to eat. Why? Because they put everything on the smallest plates possible! Is this to make it look like a lot of food? Or that you're some how getting a great deal? I'd prefer a larger plate, that my food actually fits on, so I don't have a dry cleaning bill from spilling my dinner all over myself. The salad was so hard to eat. Lettuce cut into huge pieces, drowning in dressing. You have to cut it, or it won't fit in your mouth and your definitely getting a salad facial in the process. But cutting it = you wearing it because it's guaranteed to fall in your lap. Choose the lesser of the two evils I guess. The biscuits were cold, dense and rubbery. Not buttery, flaky, warm pillows at all. The chicken fried steak was boring. No wow factor other than it falling off the plate. The mashed potatoes were definitely house made, but way too over mashed. They were like glue. The fried cod was also very bland. The batter had no seasoning what so ever and the fish was watery. We finished our meal with the Peach Cobbler, which was the best thing we ordered! I wish I had started with that! It was warm, buttery and the peaches were a bit firm. Didn't taste like fresh peaches but nonetheless it was pretty dang tasty! The vanilla blue bell ice cream sealed the goodness! I can see why people like this place, but for me, it's a no. read more

Great food great service good music nice bar ambiance is casual good bbq steak pork a little bit for everybody awesome lemon garlic butter

Amazing food, I got chicken fried pork and it was delicious. There is plenty of gravy and the sweet tea was quite good. The customer service was amazing, they came back to our table multiple times, and we were almost never out of tea on refills. The dimmer lighting in addition to the light of the many signs made the lighting comfy and nice on the eyes. read more

You only need to know three words walking into TEXAZ Grill: chicken fried steak. It's a huge monster, with a crispy double dipped batter layer encasing a beautiful tenderized steak, smothered with a beautiful white gravy. Without a doubt TEXAZ Grill has the best chicken fried steak in the Phoenix area, perhaps even Arizona! Portions are huge too! The dinner portion actually gives you two steaks while the lunch portion gives you one. The coleslaw and mashed potatoes on the side were huge as well. The restaurant is a bit small and the parking lot a bit smaller, but the interior is definitely cozy and the staff is very friendly. It really makes the meal worth it on top of the kick*** CFS. You NEED to try this out! read more

I would consider this place a hole in the wall. The decor is just awesome. The employees are all so sweet. You get taken care of when you come here. Now let me tell you about the food! Get the Mac and cheese. I mean it, the Mac and cheese is to die for. You get free bread and butter as well. The brisket was so juicy and tender, and the bbq sauce was perfect. You get lots of food so you will definitely walk out with leftovers! Can't wait to come back! Thank you!! read more

Had an awesome dinner alone there last night. Started with a salad with blue cheese and even thou it's not a California salad; it's good nonetheless. I like how they chop the green olives. That really adds to the salads flavor. I had the country fried steak (beef) whole entree (2 patties) and they were very well cooked and had a great meat to breading ratio. No wonder they claim so many served! I sat at the bar the lady that waited on me was actually very pleasant, down to earth, & an awesome person. Minus a star for $5 local beer bottle. That's a little steep when it ends up being $25 PP without tip. Not regretting... read more

Had dinner here the other night. What a cool concept - with all the decor, I truly felt I was in the heart of Texas! We ordered the smoked prime rib meal, which included biscuit and roll, salad, mashed potatoes/gravy and prime rib. The prime rib was done perfectly, and had a great smoky flavor. Big big portions too. My only complaint would be that my prime rib was just a tad cool (temperature) - should have been a little warmer. But at least it wasn't overcooked! Great atmosphere, and fun place. read more

I cannot give 5 stars to this business as it operates today. The present owners are not the original owners and my guess would be that the cook is not either. I am actually offended that today's owners brag about how long "we" have been in business when they were not the original partners who built the whole operation and earned the reputation it has achieved previously. I have been a customer for approx 30 years even though I do not reside nearby. However I moved here from Texas and this was my go to place for a Chicked Fried Steak "fix". I regularly drove way out of my way to visit and always brought out of town guests and raved to friends and neighbors to make the drive there. Even during the Covid curbside pick up for take out. In today's time and under the present ownership the place looks the same and the portion size is still great. The price of course is more than twice the costs but that is not surprising. What is disappointing is the food flavor quality is just not quite as impressive as it was originally. The food is def more bland and under spiced. I suppose that someone who is not already familiar with the early years would not have a comparison. For them the quaintness and the large portions would be enough of a conversation on its own. And I am sure the present owners have put in a lot of work to keep it alive today. I just feel they could do a little better in matching the previous quality and not speak on Yelp as if "they" made it what it is today. The original owners did it better and you still have room for improvement. I will still be a customer but not as often as it just isn't as good. B- Sorry. read more

This is my favorite restaurant because it has great food and Service and has good chicken Fried steak and good Desserts

Food was 11/10!!! Chicken fried steak the service was good, maybe great. There was nice staff with average wait time. The ambiance is the best part. It feels like you're in Texas Roadhouse on steroids. 11/10 would give 6 stars if I could read more

Worst day I have ever had at Texaz. We waited for server quite a while, when he came we ordered drinks and dinner because we had another engagement. Nothing for a long time then drinks and rolls. A server other than Justin brought I plate and ask if we were sharing. We were not. Server took the meal away and 20 minutes later brought 2meals but not what we ordered. Now after being at a restaurant 45 minutes we still didn't have our meal and never got our salad before the meal. We left after offering to pay for our ice tea very hungry and angry. read more

Absolutely the worst service I have ever received came in here on crutches with a broken leg and I asked for a table because I cannot bend my leg to sit down I was refused because they said they had a reservation holding all the tables they said I would have to go somewhere else Handicap people beware of this place they will turn you away and not acomidat for you at all After speaking with management Dustin he fixed the problem and was very very helpful I recommend anyone who goes there ask for him he is a rock star when it comes to service he was not even part of the floor he was the bar manager ....the waitresses in there should learn from him how yo treat people read more

We were introduced last night to TEXAZ Grill and was fantastic! We both had the single chicken fried steak and it was huge and tasty. The mashed potatoes were excellent and our salads were just right. Our waitress was a veteran and offered excellent service and menu suggestions. They bill themselves as having the best chicken fried steak in Phoenix and they sure get our vote. We plan to return for their Sunday brunch. read more

The food was amazing authentic chicken fried steak. Huge portions. Shiner Bock served. But the waitlist was not managed well. We were told 20 min and we waited well over an hour and 15 min. We had nowhere to be so we just waited, People were angry about not getting called when they were on the list. It was ugly. read more

What a great find! I was in the area visiting friends and we talked about getting a chicken fried steak. This place appears to have been around a long time. I started with a house salad...nothing special but was a nice serving. The lettuce was crisp and it had ample tomatoes. Next was the chicken fried steak that was breaded perfect and a very large portion. It was served with real mashed potatoes and everything was covered in white cream gravy. I felt like I was in my hometown enjoying a lifetime favorite meal! I'll definitely be back if ever in the area again. read more

I don't understand the hype behind this place. The interior looks like it's from 1987, complete with the duct tape holding the booth upholstery together. The silverware is flimsy, cafeteria-grade to boot. Service is atrocious. Dined here twice, equally disappointed in the quality and portions. First time, the signature chicken fried steak was overdone and bland. The second time, the steak sandwich lacked flavor with exactly 11 "Texas" fries on the plate. read more

Yet another visit to Texaz. Tips for my Yelp friends: 1. Happy hour 4-6 pm half price beers/wine/.etc plus special entrees 2. If you visit several times, be sure to get a "Clean Plate Card" started up. Bring it back for each visit and something real good will soon happen. 3. Ask for Devin as a waiter - excellent service. My wife had catfish for the first time in her life; she enjoys many seafood varieties but never pulled the catfish handle. Really enjoyed it. Southern style pork chops were great as always. Do it!!! read more

Let me start by saying this has always been one of my favorite, favorite restaurants. I celebrate my bday there, and have for years, always with chicken fried steak. I'm a native and remember when this place was Carlos O'Briens. Tonight, I got a message from Grubhub enticing me to repeat my order from a couple weeks ago by taking $10 off my $30 order. Easy! Our total will be close to $70. Wife was having catfish, and of course, chicken fried steak for me. Okra again, dessert, extra gravy..... When I went to order, I couldn't find chicken fried steak on the menu. I called to inquire. A woman answered and asked me to wait on hold. OK. I waited, and waited ... 10 mins later, she hadn't returned so I hung up to try again. This time "Derek" answered. I told him about being left on hold. He said she must have forgotten me? Uh yeah. Then I asked where the chicken fried steak was on the Grubhub menu? He said beef cube steak is too expensive to allow them to have this on the meal delivery service menus anymore. Really!!!! Chicken Fried Steak, the item that Texaz Grill built its' reputation on cannot be ordered for delivery! It's part of a combo plate for "big eaters" that can be delivered? They have ribeye steaks and NY strip steaks for delivery? Those have to be more pricy than cube steak? Why not just raise the price? I would pay an extra $5 to $7. Or just give me one piece? It's huge anyway. I am so disappointed tonight that I can't get chicken fried steak for dinner. I was SO in the mood. read more

We are Arizona natives and we used to eat there all the time many years ago. We finally got the chance to eat there again and we were really looking forward to it. What a let down! This restaurant failed us at every turn. Our waitress was ditty, took forever to bring drinks, forgot the beer, took 15 min at the end of our meal just to get a to go box 15 more min to get a check etc... When our food came out, we were so disappointed, this place was famous for their chicken fried steak, which was the only reason we came. If I could give no stars I would! The breading was huge and thick and the steak was super thin. It looked great on the plate but disintegrated when trying to cut it into a bunch of crumbs, very disappointing. The mash potatoes were bland and they charged extra for more gravy. We also had to send the fries back as they were COLD! So if you want to relive your childhood and go back to the place where you loved the food when you were younger this is not the same place as it was. Very disappointed. read more

Had lunch here today. Used to love this place. Unfortunately this will be our last time making the trek up there from Mesa. Our host/waiter apparently has not done that type of job before. No personality, never came back and checked on us. My husband enjoyed his chicken fried chicken. Wish I could say the same for the prime rib. It was way over cooked, burnt on the ends and tough. No pink in the middle, no juice, and so thin you couldn't tell it was prime rib. The potatoes were very dry, too. Like they had been sitting around for hours. The only saving grace was the onion rings on top. Very tasty. But man cannot live on onion rings alone! It was so good when the original owners were there. read more

I have come here for years, love the place, but the quality has gone a bit up and down. My last couple of visits, I was extremely happy. The prime rib was excellent and the chicken fried steak was good again! It had deteriorated to being a thin, nasty piece of meat with too much breading. But it was back! Unfortunately, we went there last week and wanted steak. Although in the past, I had tended not to order steak here, I thought, "what the heck." The ribeye was expensive, but I thought it would be a nice piece of meat. It wasn't. It was a very thin cut and not tender. Or flavorful. Plus, I was under the illusion that they would cook it on a grill. They didn't. It was pan fried. All in all, for the money, it was not a good meal. I can still recommend this place for the prime rib, chicken fried steak, the chicken fried chicken, But I have some questions after getting three rather poor ribeye steaks. I will be back and let's hope this was an aberration. But $35 for a bad steak seems a real waste. And the first time, our waitress was less than great. Abrupt. A little rude. Ignored us for a long period of time. And it wasn't that busy. I've always thought that The help staff here was terrific. Chalk it up to just one bad night. I guess. read more

One of the best Prime Ribs in the Valley not to mention the very best Chicken Fried Steak anywhere. Plus the service is outstanding.

I was craving for country fried steak and drove to this restaurant to fulfill it. As you enter the restaurant you will notice the hats, license plates, nostalgic Texas decoration. It feels like you've been transformed into a Texas country bar. We were immediately greeted by the hostess and sat down inside of a booth. The menu is right side up on the table. Inside the menu are comfort foods to order such as, chicken fried steak, fried okra, steak and burgers. Of course, I ordered the chicken fried steak with the gravy on the side; it was so delicious. Five stars!! It was good enough to feed two people. Additionally, the bread pudding is served warm with whiskey sauce. It was a perfect ending to dinner when you're all fried up! read more

Went on the recommendation of a friend as I asked where to get a good country fried steak. It was probably 2-3 ounces of a super thin tasteless steak and 7-8 ounces of breading. Service was stellar, business was dirty and worn out. read more

I was introduced to this place years ago by two good friends that are regulars. I have not been back until two relatives from the Midwest were craving a down low place for a good steak *boom it clicked. From the outside to the inside you are in dive city but inside it is one of those places with everything stuck to the wall, every square inch and it's kind of cute. Service was good can't complain and when we were ordering I decided to go big or go home (chicken fried steak) when our server asked if I wanted a full order or a half order I was like "pssssh I'm a grown man give me a full!" OMG when it came out it was an unassuming huge piece of CFS with delicious gravy and flavorful potatoes and I wasn't paying attention until my friend looked over and said "there is another huge piece under that one" upon inspection I had an entire meal under my meal = full order. Half of it was just as delicious reheated the next day. Huge portions, unpretentious and a delicious ultimate splurge! Friends liked the steak, next time I want to try the chicken fried chicken or fried shrimp.....we will see if I am man enough again for a full order! read more

I left hungry, heart broken and very disappointed. I absolutely love chicken fried steak so of course I wanted to try their's. It's a cute spot without a doubt. There is so much to look at inside. Buttttt it took my boyfriend and I a while to get seated and our simple cup of chili and "Bubba's special" which consisted of eggs, biscuit & gravy and chicken fried steak never made it to our mouths! Yet the table of 3 that came way after us got their fried okra, dallas tacos, some kind of burger, salad & chicken fried steak before us?!?!?!?! Something wasn't right, we could feel it. So we asked the server where our food was? And why the table of 3 got theirs before us and she said "it depends on what you ordered" Yeah umm no you're not going to tell me that you had to make the chili and bubbas special fresh from scratch. Go elsewhere. Even Denny's has a decent country fried steak. Save your reply Business Manager, I don't want to hear any excuses for your shitty service. read more

What can you say about the location that has sold more Chicken fried steak then any place in Arizona and also the only one that keeps count, so who knows. The ambiance is dive bar mates with a old world Texas eatery and the result is The Texas Grill. The portions are large, more then anyone can eat so that's a plus. I really like a good chicken fried steak. Theirs is the best I've ever eaten. Great service.

This place is hilarious. We went on Sunday night at 8, the kitchen closes at 9 even though they say they are open to 10, they said they can't control YELP, HEY YELP, THEY CLOSE AT 9 ON SUNDAYS!! The food is authentic Texas, fried and then fried again. None of us tried the chicken fried steak because we forgot our Lipitor. Had fried chicken, beef brisket, and the rib eye all were ok, mashed potatoes were probably better earlier in the day. Nothing to flavorful except I did like the coke slaw and the biscuits. It's probably more fun at peak times when your waitress isn't running on fumes. We were sitting after we ate and they started to turn the lights out, we went out the door and they locked it behind us. A little abrupt. Oh well.... read more

I can't believe I've never written a review on Texaz Grill! I've been many times over the years, including Christmas Eve a couple years ago w my family. Anyway, back to the food. There are a lot of reviews and I don't want to be repetitive, So I will attempt to summarize those attributes that contribute to my five star rating. #1: the food - The food is consistently excellent. While I haven't had everything on the menu, I've had quite a few items and they never disappoint. One of my favorite things to order is a large portion of prime rib dinner for takeout. Also the chicken fried steak is another takeout favorite. I had the chicken fried steak tonight and it was perfect when I got it home- crunchy and hot. #2: the service - The service is always friendly and efficient. I've never had an empty iced tea cup, they've made great menu recommendations. #3: they are accommodating- they are nice about modifications. I had the Brazos Burrito made as a salad, gotta love me a brisket salad! #4: generous portions - I always have enough left over for another meal. If you haven't tried Texaz Grill you're missing out! read more
