Big Portions. Bold Flavor. True TEXAZ Style. I finally made my first visit to TEXAZ Grill in Phoenix -- just in time for their 40th anniversary celebration! For this milestone, they've teamed up with local favorite Chef Rich Hinojosa (formerly of CRUjiente Tacos) to craft a special menu highlighting the best of both worlds - Texas classics with a local twist. From the crispy Puffy Tacos to their legendary Chicken Fried Steak, every bite delivers that hearty, no-frills Texas comfort the Valley has loved for four decades. Where friendly faces meet a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. To celebrate the anniversary of this local dining institution, the community is invited to experience new menu creations or savor TEXAZ Grill favorites that have stood the test of time -- all while enjoying great food, cold drink specials, and plenty of TEXAZ-style fun. Whether it's your first visit or one of many memorable meals, make sure to stop in and support local -- because places like TEXAZ Grill are what keep Phoenix's food scene bold, flavorful, and full of heart. 6003 N 16th St Phoenix

Stopped in to have some catfish recently and just loved how large the portions are. Service was relatively quick considering they made my order fresh. Iced tea was delicious. I love not having to wait for a refill.

We have been going here for years and it never disappoints. They are known for their chicken fried steak and that's usually what I order. We went for lunch so I got the lunch size portion which comes with one steak and it is still huge. Dinner portion comes with two steaks so be warned, you will be getting a lot of food. My lunch came with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn along with a delicious biscuit. The chicken fried steak has a light crispy breading and is never greasy. The gravy has a delicious peppery flavor. Plan on leftovers and if you're nice, they give you a little extra gravy. My husband got the chicken fried chicken dinner which comes with 2 large chicken breasts and 2 sides. He got the mashed potatoes and a salad. They have good salads but be warned, they put chopped green olives on top unless you request to have them left off. We both had half our meal left over to take home. I had been dying to try one of their deserts so I got the peach cobbler and it was really good. More of a cake type top than I'm used to but delicious. They have really good fried catfish and even a decent burger. On the weekend you can even get a brunch chicken fried steak(called Eggs Bubba) that comes with a fried egg on top. So yummy! If you get a chance to go to Texaz Grill please do. You won't regret it! Bring your appetite! The service is always top notch!

I live up the street from this place, and it was already a great experience being able to walk to it. Upon arrival, the inside is so much fun. Quite the exciting atmosphere, very Texan-country vibes. We arrived for dinner, and were seated almost right away. The waitress was very attentive, personable, and nice. She offered the specials, gave us some ideas about the menu, and notified us of their most famous dishes. After looking over the menu, I decided to go with the CFC (Chicken Friend Chicken), with mashed potatoes and French fries, with my gravy on the side. Before the entrees came out, the waitress dropped off some of their buttermilk biscuits, which I gotta say, were probably the best I've ever had. I've never been a huge fan of them previously, because most of the one I've experienced were dense, dry, and quite crumbly. TexAZ's biscuits were perfectly light, buttery, and soft. SO Good! Our entrees came out and they most certainly did not disappoint. The CFC comes with TWO, full-sized chicken breasts, fried to perfection. It's not a super thick batter, which makes for a really nice crisp crunch. The chicken was quite juicy and flavorful, and adding a little of their gravy on it only enhanced the dish even further. The mashed potatoes were also fantastic, and the French fries were very fresh, and lightly salted. Overall, the experience was great, the service was great, the food was great. Highly recommend if you are wanting something that feels like home-cooked, comfort food.

Really nice. First time here and not at all disappointed. The inside is really fun. And has all these decor around. The food however also pretty good. I had the steak and eggs. The steak personally could've used more salt and so could the potatoes. I had the Sunday driver as well. Tastes like oj and vodka. My mom had the burger and it's a big burger. The burger beef is very soft and easy to eat and flavorful. My steak was easy to cut as well. The waitress was very friendly and I'd come back. Maybe next time I'll try the country friend steak they advertise

Sunday brunch- fried eggs over chicken fried steak over biscuits and gravy, with a side of home fries.

Good thing I came here hungry. The Sunday brunch of fried eggs over chicken fried steak over biscuits and gravy, with a side, was very tasty, very filling, and very well priced. The friendly servers were very efficient and the atmosphere was very relaxed and informal.

Party of 8. They accommodated us when they were full of reservations. And account of a somber occasion being celebrated for my friend that was leaving out of the country the next day. Majority got their famous chicken fried steak. Hot home made biscuits, mashed potatos and buttery corn were some of my favorite. Best of the best servers when it comes to hospitality here. And you really can't mess with an institution like TEXAZ.

I've lived in the valley for over a decade and have never been to Texas Grill and I sad about it. The food have a really good dinner vibes. It's a little dark and the walls are busy but it's also kinda cool as you can find something new every time you come in. The food was good and plentiful seasoned well hot and I got exactly what I wanted!

Portions are gigantic so come hungry! But everything was hot and delicious! Good home style cooking! Prices are really reasonable for how much food you get and beers are cheap as well! Service was friendly and prompt and the overall vibes are good

Prime rib with some great smokey flavor
    Krissy H.

Very cowboyesk.... Their prime rib was absolutely phenomenal - seriously smoky and delicious. I was *blown away* by that. The chicken fried chicken sandwich, though? Eh, it was okay, nothing to write home about. I needed to doctor it up a bit - added some coleslaw (with a healthy dose of Tabasco ), because it needed a little something extra, The bun came dry. There was again tomato pickle, lettuce and onion on the side. The chicken was a bit greasy, and the mashed potatoes, while super delish and the gravy was amazing with some lumps and peels. The only downside was the wait time. It took about an hour to get our food, and the place wasn't even that busy. Sounds like they might have been training some new staff. Overall, though, the prime rib and mashed potatoes made it worth the visit! Highly recommend trying that.

We usually frequent Steak 44 when celebrating our birthdays (our entire family has September birthdays!), and it has become a tradition we look forward to year after year. From the moment you walk in, the experience is nothing short of exceptional. The service is impeccable, as you would expect from a high-end steakhouse, but it's the attention to detail that truly sets this place apart. Every entrée is cooked to perfection, and the flavors of the food and sides are on a whole different level. Simply put, every bite is a celebration! One of my favorite features is the beautiful glass-enclosed booths overlooking the kitchen, which add a unique and exciting touch to an already spectacular dining experience. And just when you think the evening couldn't get any better, Steak 44 follows up the next day to make sure your experience exceeded expectations. Now that's what I call going above and beyond! If you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience, whether for a special occasion or simply because you deserve to be spoiled, Steak 44 is a must. Be sure to book your reservation in advance through OpenTable, as this popular spot stays busy!

I've lived in Arizona for three years, and I've never experienced anything quite like what happened…read moretonight at Steak 44. My friend and I arrived dressed nicely, only to be stopped and told that her outfit violated the restaurant's dress code because it was considered "athletic wear." She was wearing a tasteful white two-piece pants set, nothing revealing or inappropriate. The gentleman who approached us, whom I assume was a manager, initially refused to let us dine. Rather than argue, she showed him why it wasn't and then we politely thanked him and walked away. As we left, my friend immediately expressed how uncomfortable and singled out the interaction made her feel. Approximately two minutes later, the same gentleman came outside and told us he would make an exception "this time" because we seemed like nice people. That statement only made the situation more insulting. If the dress code was truly the issue, what suddenly changed? And why did whether we seemed like "nice people" determine if we were welcome? Under normal circumstances, we would have taken our business elsewhere. However, my friend had driven an hour specifically to enjoy one of her favorite restaurants, and it was already 9:30 p.m. What should have been an enjoyable evening turned into an uncomfortable experience that affected the entire night between her and I and ultimately caused it to end early. I won't speculate about the reasoning behind our treatment, but I will say that what we experienced, especially compared with other guests we observed, left us questioning whether the "dress code" was being truly the reason we were disrespected. I've always heard great things about Steak 44, and I appreciate the restaurant's reputation for excellent food and service. Unfortunately, my very first visit left me feeling disappointed, disrespected, and unwelcome. Fine dining should come with high standards, but those standards should be applied consistently and respectfully to every guest. No one should be made to feel that they have to earn the right to be treated with dignity.

Saudero tacos (a brisket confit suadero tacos with a chile jam, aguacate, serrano cruda, toasted sesame, fresnos and micro cilantro) We sat on the patio for a wonderful AZ spring evening. The service was great. I also enjoyed their extensive tequila and mezcal menu. The only downside is the parking -- it's pretty small and shared with Lou Malnati's next door!

I had heard so much about this restaurant and definitely wanted to check out what all the hype was…read moreabout. I'd like to start by saying it did not disappoint! When we first entered the restaurant we were warmly welcomes by several members of the staff. We let them know that we had a reservation and we were seated quickly. You definitely need to make a reservation. The restaurant is quaint. It has bar seating for eight and about seven tables. We definitely love the warm and cozy vibe. Another huge contributing factor of the intimate setting was the fire grill that you can see from pretty much anywhere in the restaurant. To drink, I had the Cantarito. It was a mixture of. Milagro reposado, charred citrus juice, lime, and ginger which was garnished with dried slices of citrus. It was spectacular! My husband chose a bottle of Mexican Coke. We started with the Embered Elote and the cucumber salad. The Elote was fire roasted corn on the cob with a delicious crema, and spicy sauce garnished with queso. The cucumber salad was super unique, and the combination of flavors were absolutely delightful. it was made up of cucumbers, radishes, tomatoes, tomatillo vinaigrette, and queso. For dinner, we shared the Shorties. Bone in short ribs season to perfection and the squeeze of lime on top pushed the flavor over the edge. Everything we had at this restaurant was fantastic. The portions are large. I definitely recommend sharing dishes. Next time we go, we are going to get one less appetizer so that we can try a dessert. Thank you for the wonderful service and crazy delicious food!

Wow wow wow! We were…read morein town for the weekend and I was lucky to score 2 last minute resys. I've been to Mexico many times and had authentic food. Bacanora was like a breath of fresh air. The menu isn't big but we had a hard time choosing since everything looked good. We decided on the elote with bone marrow, hamachi crudo and Pollo asado. I have to say the elote/bone marrow combo is life changing. My husband isn't a fan of elote but he could not stop raving about this dish. It was rich without feeling heavy. The hamachi crudo was SPICY but in the most addicting way. We didn't think it could get better, but the pollo asado was amazing. I prefer dark meat, but had a piece of the breast and it was so juicy. The rajas and frijoles were flavorful. But the best thing on the plate were the quesadillas. I wish they offered it separately. We would've ordered another plate they were that good! The portions were so big, that we ended up taking the rest of the asado to go. We ended up bringing it all the way back to NYC 3 days later and it tasted even better! I loved the whole vibe of the place. Yes, it's tiny but it made you feel like you were eating at a friend's house. The staff were friendly and patient (especially since we were so indecisive). We tried 2 cocktails which were tasty. We wanted to try more but were soooo full. We did try the sweet potato dessert which was nice but I really was too full to enjoy. I'm already planning a trip back to Phoenix so I can eat here again!

The rotating menu changes weekly or so, and everything we had was amazing! The risotto was full of flavor and the kale salad was probably the best salad I've had! Only downside is that…read morefor some reason Apple maps was not accurate to finding the location and parking was a challenge as it is right on Roosevelt Row. However as soon as I found it and immediately after entering Pretty Penny I was transformed to the cutest little restaurant. I was greeted immediately and had made a reservation so even though my friend hadn't arrived yet, they sat me down. They instantly offered water and menus (food and cocktail). I noticed that the menu seemed very small and the dishes were shareable -- I don't eat meat so I was hoping my friend wouldn't mind sticking with fish and seafood (which she didn't). As soon as I got to my table there was the cutest sign that said welcome to Sarah Sherman and guest -- it was such an adorable and personal touch, I loved that! As soon as my friend got there we immediately both ordered the cold brew old fashioned -- we thought about the espresso martini but this just sounded too good to pass up -- and we were not disappointed! This drink was so tasty and strong. We immediately ordered the bread (sourdough boule) to soak up some of the alcohol as well as some oysters and the salsa. The oysters were so well spiced and were absolutely delicious. But the bread, the bread, the bread -- the server mentioned that it took almost 9 months to develop the bread recipe and it served. It was the best bread and butter that I think I have ever had! The salsa was good but probably was my least favorite of everything and it was still super yummy. We then moved on to the octopus tostadas. Sometimes octopus is not my fav -- it can be too chewy but this was so amazing and incredibly flavorful. It was starting to be my favorite dish until we ordered the Hamachi -- OMG!! Talk about a mouth orgasm-- both my friend and I were yummming it up -- but seriously this bite was so complex with different flavors coming up with every chew -- it has coriander candied peanuts, fermented pineapple, avocado, pickled fresno, toasted coconut and aji amarillo yogurt -- The server mentioned that this was the chef's least favorite dish which I totally do not understand because this was off the charts in my book. We also tried the earl gray whiskey sour, which was light and delicious, and ended with the shrimp toast and the espresso martini. By the way the toast on the shrimp toast was like a little fried dough triangle -- sooooo gooood! The martini was good but the cold brew old fashioned really stole the spotlight for me. Other details I loved that just elevated the experience: Purse hook (very important to me), the little trays for your utensils, metal coasters, incredibly attentive servers, fantastic music, great ambiance and the cutest was the penny they put on top of your check. So cute -- was not expecting such an enjoyable all around experience!! Will be back 1000%!!!
