Italian bread so soft and crunchy my favorite
    Roxy L.

Our food was excellent well prepared and the service was great too! First time visiting and it didn't disappoint. Love this place my 10oz filet was well prepared and the Italian bread was so soft and crunchy. I especially love the wood grilled flavor in my steak. We enjoyed dessert salted caramel gelato with espresso coffee. The ambiance is unique we sat in a booth by the bar. I definitely will return.

We've always heard so much hype about Red Ash and just had to try for ourselves. Takes a few months to get a reservation. I had made a reservation a few weeks prior for our anniversary month. When we sat at our table they had a cute little greeting card from the staff wishing us a happy anniversary. Pro Tip: Just make a reservation way in advance and if you make it you make it. Even if you don't think you will be able to make it. If you can't go just cancel with enough advance. We started with the Meatballs that pair wonderfully with their Italian Bread. Flavorful and plentiful dish and def get the bread! Next came the Bone Marrow & Tuna Crudo. I will say though for some reason after we finished our Meatballs it took them quite a while to bring our dishes after that. Bone Marrow was divine and also paired well with the Italian Bread. Tuna Crudo was not what I expected because it was warm and I was expecting it to be cold. But it was good and I love eggplant. Our main dish was the Agnolotti Alla Piemontese. From the description it seemed to hit all the boxes since we are meat lovers (contains braised beef & pork shoulder) and truffle. I love me some truffle. When we ordered the Agnolotti Alla Piemontese I asked him does it have a lot of truffle flavor because I love truffle. He said oh we can definitely add more truffle if you would like when the dish comes out. When the dish came they had the chef come shave an extra truffle on the dish. I honestly could not taste the difference. Was not enough truffle flavor for me. Note the extra truffle is an added charge. Overall lovely experience. If we return we will need to try some different dishes to give it another try.

The Agnolotti pasta was really good, so much so I had to scrape every ounce of the sauce off the plate. The bone marrow was also pretty solid. However, I didn't really feel like the Blue crab pasta lives up to the hype. The noodle was a little dry and the sauce flavor was a little plain in my opinion.

5 stars for appetizers and dessert 4 stars for main The appetizers and desserts were excellent. The appetizers were just really done so well, though pricey. The steak trimmings bruschetta was a single slice of bread, but it was loaded with both perfect medium rare steak and delicious mushrooms. Add maybe a $4 order of two slices of their garlic bread, and you could perhaps call this an entree. The octopus was perfectly tender and came sitting in a delicious almost-stew that made the dish heartier. Again, kind of expensive for the single skewer (about 6 pieces) of octopus. We got one of the most expensive mains -- the cold lobster tails scampi style with spaghettini. There were five small lobster tails, which isn't bad. Flavor was just fine. The pasta on the side was just fine, just cooked beyond al dente in a simple tomato sauce. It was a little surprising the pasta didn't have lobster flavor or even scampi flavor. Felt like two very different dishes on the plate. This dish also came with a slice of bread. Their bread is great. We also got the special-- morel mushrooms over polenta and a poached egg. It tasted great but was probably the thinnest, smallest serving of polenta I've ever had. The desserts is where Red Ash then redeemed itself. The tiramisu is great...AND HUGE. Double the size I would have expected. And they don't say it on the menu, but you can order a single scoop of gelato for $4. Parking is always challenging downtown; we got super lucky with someone leaving street parking just as we got there. It's very noisy inside. Why do downtown restaurants insist on having no sound dampening?

Joel recommended the Feudi di San Gregorio Falanghina and it was so refreshing, so smooth and went amazing with the Small Butter Clams "Oreganata Style". I also had the Mezze rigatoni and subbed out the sausage for broccolini since the sausage was made with pork and they didn't have any other protein options for the pasta other than half a chicken. Over all the service is phenomenal, it's a lowlight restaurant perfect for date night or corporate event where you want to impress someone. The bone marrow is a favorite here but I will say it's a split on which option I love better between that and the clams. I've had the thin sliced beef Carpaccio and tbh it just felt like and over priced bun less sand which. I would not order that again. Joel thoroughly impressed me with his recommendations. I came here for a solo reservation and was observing him as he catered his suggestions to each patron sitting at the bar. I will be back. I suggest planning a few weeks ahead of time since this popular fine dining experience in Austin.

We had a wonderful date night at Red Ash and finally understood why it's one of Austin's most talked‑about restaurants. We booked our 6:45pm reservation two months out, arrived a little early, and were seated at the bar right away--already a great start. Drinks: She ordered the Heat of Passion and I went with the Satan's Circus. Both were solid cocktails, but the Heat of Passion definitely stole the show with brighter, more pronounced flavors. Mine was good, though the chilis were much more subtle than expected. Starters: We started with the burrata with tomatoes and the bone marrow. The burrata itself was outstanding--creamy, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The tomatoes were good but could have used a touch more seasoning, though it seemed they were going for a "let the ingredients shine" approach. The bone marrow, however, was phenomenal. Rich, buttery, and paired perfectly with the extra bread it came with (which was helpful since we devoured the burrata's bread instantly). It was my first time trying marrow, and it was a "when in Rome" moment I'm glad I had. Entrées: We shared the potato gnocchi (small portion) and the blue crab pasta (full portion). The crab pasta was flavorful and well‑balanced, but the gnocchi packed such a punch that you really had to alternate bites or it would overshadow the other dish entirely. For what it's worth, we're not huge seafood people, so that may have influenced our impressions--but both dishes were delicious in their own way. Dessert: We debated between the olive oil cake and the chocolate cake, and finally chose the chocolate hazelnut volcano cake. Zero regrets. Rich, warm, and decadent--halfway through I was ready for a nap in the best possible way. Ambience: The building itself is thoughtful and stylish. There was music playing (sounded like Bad Bunny vibes), but it was hard to hear over the crowd--if anything, lowering it might make conversations easier. Service: Sitting at the bar ended up being a great choice. The bartender was attentive, helpful with recommendations, and kept the experience smooth from start to finish. Overall: A fantastic evening and absolutely worth the hype. We completely understand why people rave about Red Ash.

Finally had the chance to try Red Ash! The food definitely lived up to the hype. The blue crab pasta is a must!! We also shared the buratta was delicious as well . Portions are large and great for sharing. Can't wait to come back!

Enjoyed an amazing birthday dinner here. We were seated next to the fire which was nice cozy ambiance. Garlic bread was a great start. The gnocchi pasta was to die for!!!! Roasted chicken was pretty solid. Their panna cotta was the perfect ending to our meal, I prefer it over the tiramisu. Service was excellent.

As a New Yorker new to Austin, this is honestly my favorite restaurant in the city. I've been visiting over the past year, but I've noticed the heavy set Latina female check in host isn't very friendly and often pushes back when we try to walk in with or without reservations. It's also hard to get a reservation; she says they're often released only on the day itself. For example, I booked a 5pm reservation just three minutes before, which was stressful. I love the food here, but getting seated has always been an issue it's difficult to get a bar seat or table without hassle. It's unfortunate because I don't have these issues at their sister restaurant, J Carver, which is much more accommodating. Still, Res Ash remains my favorite because the taste of their steak is undefeated! Is this helpful?

We managed to sneak in here on a Monday night and find bar seating at around 8:30 PM. I was later told it takes months to get a reservation, and after trying the food and feeling the vibes, I could see why. Intimate, but casual environment with friendly service. The lighting is spot on: not too dark, not too bright. We shared the meatballs and the osso bucco and a bottle of wine. The osso bucco was probably among the best I've had. The wine list is quite extensive and you can find some pretty good values. I like it here so much I tried to get back in the following night. This is rare for me. When I'm away traveling for work, I always try to hit different spots, but it was that good. Unfortunately for me, my luck ran out. They couldn't even squeeze me in at the bar.

Not worth your time and money! Booking out months in advance for this is outrageous. The only thing worth your money was the crab pasta. The rigatoni was dry and honestly you could make it at home. The agnolotti was flavorless and inedible. The steak trimmings bruschetta was just okay as the bread was extremely soggy. I would give this a miss if you want good Italian. Maybe the steak is the star of the show but if you want good Italian in Austin go to Sammie's.

Came here with some friends and ordered a bunch of stuff on the menu. While we enjoyed everything, there definitely were some standouts, namely the pastas. I loveddd the Frutti Di Mare and the Blue Crab Pasta. Sometimes Frutti Di Mare can be a bit "fishy" but Red Ash's was a 10/10. I absolutely would get it again. The Blue Crab Pasta was also a 10/10. So perfect. The Osso Buco was good but for the price, I would probably venture elsewhere on the menu.

Five stars and absolutely worth the wait! We started with the bone marrow, followed by the blue crab, frutti di mare, lobster pasta, and osso buco. Everything was delicious, beautifully prepared, and cooked to perfection. The restaurant has a cool, lively vibe, the service was wonderful, and the price felt very fair for four people. Definitely book well in advance!

Does red ash allow dogs to?

    No they do not.

Does anyone know when they might reopen?

    S Y asy

Do they take walk-ins or is it reservations only?

I think you could possibly walk in, but they are usually booked 2+ weeks out. Best move is to get on the stand by list on open table in case someone cancels.

Does Red Ash have valet parking?

Sometimes, but there's a public garage around the corner that's usually no more than $10 too.

Is there an email address to contact this restaurant at for large party reservations etc?

Does Red Ash allow you to bring wine? If so, what is the corkage fee?

    Outside wine is not allowed.

    What is "entree only"?

    It's entree only

Are kids allowed? What's the dress code?

Never seen kids but that's true of many Atx restaurants. That doesn't mean they aren't allowed. I'm sure they are welcome. Dress is however you want. Smart casual, shorts (on a hot day) or jacket would all be fine.

How closely are people seated? Is the space quite tight? I'm worried about proximity to others due to Covid.

Booths are okay but bar is not

Do they have Vegetarian pasta dishes?

I believe so. I'm not a vegetarian, but the bishops hats don't have any meat and are one of my favorite dishes.

How convenient is pick up? Is there parking in front of the restaurant to drop in and pick up our order or are we forced to park?

There isn't parking in front of the restaurant, y'all would be forced to park unless they have "curb-side" pick up. They didn't then.…

    Gluten free options?

The lady next to us was gluten free and the bartender was very knowledgeable about suggestions for her.

How much for parking and is it just cash or card as well?

Public parking nearby, or valet service in front of the restaurant. Complementary Valet: Always tip…

    Are you open for Thanks?

    Yes

Are the meatballs made with pork?

Yes, they have beef and pork.

    Is there gluten free pasta?

Yes freshly made every day from chickpeas flour.

The person greeting us, even shared some insights for some upcoming shows. They'd be having that seem great to attend. It's fun to have that sense of community being welcomed into the restaurant as soon as you get there! We split up, and I went to grab seats while the other member of my party stood in line. Seating wasn't difficult, and it was well ventilated, which was highly favorable and much appreciated in the heat with missing fans, running constantly, cute ambience, lighting with the small bulb lights, and even bug spray available they make sure that this dining experience was covered on all bases so that you would have a great one. The menus are easily accessible, with multiple copies, being passed down the line, and sitting in the stand as soon as you walk up. However, after hearing about the restaurant online, and taking some time to read the menu prior to arrival, I knew what was on my mind - carbonara. From arrival to ordering with maybe about a 30 to 40 minute wait however, it was worthwhile. The dishes are made to order, with fresh pasta being used, making it even better. We opted for two half orders to share, and that was definitely enough food because we ended up even taking leftovers. We also got an order of the garlic bread with tons of roasted garlic, parmesan, and green onions. While the carbonara was flavorful and what my mind was initially set on, the other pasta actually ended up stealing the show and was what we finished immediately the Leopold had a pesto base and a nice hint of spice even without the peppers (which were taken off in our order). Overall, the most difficult part of this meal was parking, and the fight was completely forgotten after my first taste. They have a small lot, however, if you circled the nearby neighborhood a couple times you're sure to find a place to put your car.

There's even a cute cat that roams around, which adds to the charm. The Carbonara Alexandra has always been my favorite. The addition of the runny egg yolk makes the sauce extra creamy and rich, and once you start eating it, it's genuinely hard to stop.

After giving our keys away we walked into what is a beautiful outside area at Juliet's. It's a nice mix of feeling like you're in downtown Austin but also not. We went inside to request two seats outside and this is unfortunately where everything fell apart. After being seated all the way at the very corner of the restaurant near the entrance, we didn't receive water for 15 minutes. In fact, we had to ask for water, as well as silverware, from a person who was cleaning a table- not a waiter. We didn't order until about 30 minutes after being seated. We noticed that others around us who were dressed nicer for the occasion were receiving service but we were not (jeans and a nice top as opposed to a dressy outfit). This is less of an accusation and more of an observation. It took another waiter noticing that we had not been served to come over and take our order, and that was 5 minutes after we had to flag down a busser to ask for water. The flip side of that whole first part is that the food was pretty good. We got complimentary table bread (after we asked for it since it never came before our main meal) that was soft and went well with the olive oil it came with. For our entrees we got the shrimp scampi and chicken parm. The shrimp scampi was fantastic and light with creamy and bold flavors in-between. The chicken parm was maybe the largest chicken cutlet we've seen given out at a restaurant. Not only was the cutlet massive but it was delicious as well with a nice, light breading and cheese on top. The spaghetti alongside it was a nice touch but this was a true chicken parm entree as it should be. We were offered a complimentary dessert as an apology for the miscues before we ate but turned it down (still good of them to offer). Leaving was easy as the valet was very attentive and quick to get our car. We wish we could say our time at Juliet's was perfect because the setting and food are very nice and a fun change of pace from the surrounding blocks. However, it's difficult to overlook the mistakes made from the jump. We noticed that another table next to us was also experiencing bad service and looked unhappy enough to leave in the middle of their meal/ We're always open to having good food again so hopefully the next time we're here things are different. Just an unfortunate bittersweet taste to what otherwise would have been a fantastic meal.

We were seated after a three-minute break, and I ordered the Joe Lioni. The chicken was very dense, and it pulled apart with barely any force. It was the texture that all chicken strives to be. The flavor was a three-way gradient: Strong lemon; to soft, heavy chicken, to a slow-building spiciness that faded quickly and painlessly. I was finished with the first piece, and about to move on to the second, but my father and sister suggested that I eat some of the spaghetti. The taste and texture can only be described as the feeling on a hike, when you come into a clearing with the sun gently filtering through the trees, and you know and enjoy that there is more to come. Very subtle and light. The pasta and chicken paired more perfectly than anything I have ever eaten before. After I finished, I got the stracciatelli cannoli, that is, the chocolate chip cannoli. I was given the cannoli, as well as a surprise bonus: the Brown Butter gelato. It was amazing. It's the next step up from custard. The cannoli was crispy, brittle, and the ricotta was smooth and rich Scraping my plate on all of these. Like a dream. Prices were somewhat steep, but worth it. 10/10

I haven't stopped raving about Sammie's since I've been there, and I cannot wait to return, recommend it, and take friends and family that visit.

Never heard of this place but got a coupon in the mail for a buy one lunch, get a free lunch…read more Decided to try it as I'm always looking for decent Italian food. As it turns out the coupon was only good during the week and it was Saturday. No big deal. I ordered a Meatball Sandwich, my friend an Italian Sandwich (after asking our excellent young waitress about it). She brought out two very tasty types of bread with olive oil for dipping. The sandwiches came with Garlic Fries. The Fries were delicious but unfortunately mine were lukewarm. I certainly could have asked for a fresh portion, but was hungry enough not to bother. That's the reason my rating wasn't 5 Star. Because the restaurant was pretty empty on this Saturday afternoon, I feel the Chef shouldn't have sent out fries that weren't piping hot. The Meatball Sandwich however was marvelous. Freshly made, tasty meatballs with sauce and cheese on their focaccia bread was a real treat. I took half home and ate the rest for dinner. All in all, I'd come back here again as the food was excellent as well as the service.

Such a good find in Austin!…read more If you're ever craving pasta, this is the place to stop by. We went on a Thursday night and it was pretty busy, but everyone who came in was still able to get a table. It feels very authentic. No Italian-American staples like Alfredo, meatballs, or garlic bread, which was actually refreshing since I'm so used to that style. You can either sit down first and take your time with the menu, or order in line before grabbing a table. Either way, they're very chill about it. Another cool thing: they're BYOB and will even cork it for you. Saw other guests bring their own glasses too, which was a nice touch. The pasta is clearly fresh. I'd recommend the macaroni with mushrooms and sausage. I got the tagliatelle with lemon shrimp cream sauce and loved it, though now I'm curious to try one of their non-cream-based sauces next time. Also spotted another table's lasagna go by and the portion was huge. Already excited to go back next time I'm in Austin. Definitely check this spot out!

Italian cooking is ingredient dependent - Even if the cook is a combination of Escoffier, Paul Bocuse and James Beard, An American tomato is an American tomato. That dish will fly you to the moon. Other more tomato-dependent items on the menu are pleasant enough. It is sad to see this enormously talented individual being as underutilized as he is. But nothing here is bad. If you think like a cook yourself, You will find other items of glory on the menu.

We called in advance to book the reservation and they were able to reserve a huge table in a corner of the restaurant. This was a fantastic location because we had our very own space and privacy and didn't need to clash with the rest of the restaurant. The food arrived in a timely manner and folks who had never tried the restaurant were very impressed with the taste and quality of the dishes! To top it all off, the restaurant surprised us with a complimentary PLATTER of dessert items and even wrote my partner a birthday card -- now THAT'S what you call a superior customer experience!! And finally, HUGE shout-out to our waiter Devin -- you did an incredible job coordinating and managing our huge group, all while having a spirited attitude! We couldn't have asked for a better waiter for this special night! :)
