Eeek I feel so bad, but this place was NOT my cup of tea. Spent 30 dollars! On spare ribs and garlic noodles. Absolutely terrible. I literally cannot put one compliment. We had been wanting to try this place for a while and I am SO GLAD we did. The food is fresh and AMAZING, and the staff is super nice and friendly. Really great start to finish. Everything is marked gluten free, vegan and vegetarian, but the stars of the show are their chicken and ribs. There's definitely something for everyone - and bonus, the restaurant is owned by a husband/wife duo and they are open late! The wife half of the duo is super lively and you can tell her staff respects her and her kitchen. We ordered the chicken spring rolls to start and split the rib plate. The chicken and rib plates come with your choice of grains or the garlic noodles, unfortunately neither were gluten-free but they allowed us to sub out a different side for a small charge so that was nice. The chef even brought us out her lacquered eggs as a nice gesture since I couldn't have the yummy carb option. The eggs were incredible, I've never had anything quite like it, and the spring rolls were perfect. With our rib plate we had the bbq cauliflower and the slaw, it was also served with a delicious garlic sauce, pickled veggies and house-made bread (I couldn't eat it but my boyfriend said it was amazing). The cauliflower dish was good, but the beans underneath were even better (the beans are also available as their own side so I'm def getting those next time). The ribs were cooked to perfection and fell right off the bone, the sauce was good, but I missed some acidity in it, apple cider vinegar would help heaps. The pickled veggies on the side paired well, but again the sauce itself, I wanted to add mustard or vinegar or something with a little tartness to balance out the depth. Overall the food was great and the experience was made even better by the wonderful chef and staff. The cashier in particular was an absolute doll. Definitely check this place out! read more

I have only tried Lacquered a few times, as I now live much farther north, but we ordered from them yesterday and had to say how incredible the food is. Not only is the place run by a top-notch chef, she is also one of the friendliest owners I've met (and that's after 15 years in the industry, myself). A sign inside says "Best Fried Chicken in Long Beach" and that is definitely possible, it was super crispy with moist and tender meat. But the fries... Hands down, the crispiest and most flavorful I've had in town! Scallion bread with garlic sauce and chicken gravy are also must-haves. read more

What a surprise! This place's chicken sandwich blew me away. I had the crispy spicy chicken sandwich to go. The sandwich is huge and very flavorful. It has the right amount of spicy-ness. To my surprise, the chicken was still crispy despite my 20 minutes drive home. I bet it'll taste even better if eaten right out of the kitchen. For my dessert, I had the daily special: flan. It was really yummy and smooth. I love how Lacquered's staffs are very friendly and nice. very comfortable vibe. They have a dog friendly menu as well. I got grilled chicken tender for my pup and she loves it. For her dessert, she got the meat jelly. I was quite surprised how fast she ate that up despite it being a frozen treat. We had the full chicken with garlic noodles, rice and bread. Very good! It was enough for our family of 6 and had left overs. Everything was excellent. The flavor was next level and the sauces were prefect. You can tell they put a lot of thought into their menu. Oh! We also had a BBQ and ranch salad, along with a piece of chocolate cake.... Yum!!! I just went to Lacquered to pick up dinner and was very excited to try it as I am new to town. When my friend and I walked in and were asked how we could be helped, we asked to have a minute to look over the menu, at which time the woman behind the counter told us (rather rudely, I might add) that she was trying to close down because he had a big dinner to get ready. There was no indication on the door that they would be closing early, and the person who was also in there had apparently successfully placed an order. I can't rate the food, because I have never eaten at Lacquered...and now, I never will. read more

First of all I should start off by saying if this review was only on food I would give them a 5. Just in case some people are up for a place with great food but horrible customer service. My first visit to Lacquered when they first opened was great, since then it seems that they have either hired inadequate staff or cannot keep up with the business they are getting. I placed a take out order in person on Friday night- I was told that the wait was pretty long and quoted 20-25 minutes. I didn't expect to not wait at all on a Friday night. I was also told that dine-in customers got priority, but there were no table available. This policy was also a bit strange, but I was still willing to wait up to 25 minutes. I came back 30 minutes later and asked if our order was ready. Although with their open kitchen policy you could see that the back of the house staff seemed hectic, the girl up front was in no hurry with absolutely anything she did, she was also unapologetic when she told us that our order was not ready and would be for a while. I asked what "a while" was and was told "you're at the bottom of the totem poll. We waited another 20 more minutes before asking again if our order was almost ready. She reminded us that dine in orders had priority and that she would let us know when our food was ready. We were among several others patiently waiting for takeout orders. I heard her continue to give 20 minute quotes to customers coming in for take out- I feel like you should at least be honest if you know at 8 o'clock at night, your food is going to be over an hour. She eventually started telling people that they had gotten slammed but were trying to catch up and to come back in 40 minutes or so.... I've never seen a restaurant turn down business. Most people expect a restaurant to be busy on a Friday night, they also expect to have some sort of wait, but over an hour is ridiculous, especially when you were quoted around 20. After over an hour with no sign of food she let those of us waiting for take out know that we could have some cookies while we waited, or get a full refund. First of all, when I have just paid $40.00 for dinner, I certainly don't want cookies to hold me over. Also, after you've already waited for over an hour, you kind of just want your food so you can finally eat. The other people waiting asked for the refund, which they also had to wait for because she wasn't able to do it on her own. The final time I asked if our food was almost ready- after about 1 hour 15 minutes, I was told it would be soon. When I asked if soon was 10 minutes, or closer to another hour, I was told, "your order is in the mix" Our food was eventually given to us. I wish I could get my tip back. With a history of working in the restaurant business I know that an apology goes a long way. We were never given one. I also know that when I worked in that field if that would have happened, a full refund would have been given for the inconvenience, even after getting the food, and some other sort of compensation for the horrible service and wait time. We were offered nothing but stale cookies. This is one of the worst customer service restaurant experiences I have ever had. I am local and love to spread the word about great new places. But I will only be telling people about this experience now. read more

Best chicken I've ever had. You can taste the freshness and organic-ness!!!! The side dishes are to die for as well. Garlic noodles, the salads...everything is made to order and delicious. Can't wait for the next date night to go back! I give 4 stars because the customer service can be upped. I loved that the chef came to check on us but aside from that, it was pretty quiet. The first time I came here I was pretty happy with my meal. I ordered the Vegan Poutine and it was really good. Boyfriend got the ribs and said they were ok. The service is quite slow and the wait both times was really long, despite there being only a few tables at the time. The second time I was pretty disappointed, ordered the Vegan Poutine again and it was lacking in flavor and missing some of the components from the first time I tried. Also ordered the baked potato, but it was really not very special and for $15 totally overpriced. The kitchen is in plain view of the dining room so you can see and hear everything which is kind of cool, but then the lady owner is quite loud and seemingly abrasive with her employees. So that kind of adds an uncomfortable vibe. I'm happy they have vegan items, so I probably will return some day. They're new so assuming they're working things out. read more

OMG!!! I came here last night with my boyfriend and friends and let's just say we loved our first experience there. They close at 11pm and we got there at like 10:45ish and the owners were still happy to serve us. They told us all about Lacquered. I'm so happy we came when we did, it made our experience very personal. We ordered the veggie chips(yummy to munch one), montreal style poutine fries, garlic noodles, lemon and pepper chicken with garlic butter which was all delicious and very flavorful. The meal came with their traditional creamy slaw and their grilled scallion bread with garlic sauce. I couldn't stop eating because it was so amazing!! I loved it all!! I can't wait to come back and try everything else on the menu. I'm so glad I live just walking distance from this place so I can get my Lacquered fix any time. This place is legit. I've been in the service industry for 15 years and know high quality food when I see it (and taste it!). Certified Mary's Organic Chicken is top notch. One of the best I've ever had. We had the lemon pepper and want to try the blackened Bbq next time. The owner Diana is extremely friendly and the decor is stylish and comfortable. It's pretty easy to tell that the chefs have some serious experience in the kitchen when their terminology is "yes Chef" and "thank you Chef." This is the kind of language and respect I heard the kitchen staff use in the fine dining restaurants I worked at. Really good sign. This is one of those places where you want to eat through the entire menu because of the time and attention given to each dish. We ordered some popcorn chicken and spring rolls to go. The first bite of chicken was good, barbecue sauce was delish(not too sweet). However the second bite was very pink, undercooked chicken. Last week, the hubby and I started with the spring rolls...usually we've seen them elsewhere with shrimp or tofu but this is the first place we've seen to offer it with either pork or chicken...we definitely like the roasted pork flavor in the spring rolls and the crunchy bits gave it more texture. We also shared a half soy lacquered chicken which was deliciously moist (even the white meat was moist and tender...probably because they brine their chickens for several hours beforehand). It was even better when we dipped the chicken in the braising liquid that they give on the side...we also dipped the flat scallion bread in it as well...yum! They also give you some creamy garlic sauce as a dip. The meal comes with their tasty 15 ingredient slaw which includes mandarin oranges and some crunchy bits too. We chose the garlic noodles with spicy peanut sauce over the legumes and grains--thankfully the noodles had a lot of garlic flavor as opposed to others we've tried elsewhere. Also the meal includes a side of perfectly pickled veggies--tart (but not too tart) and mildly sweet with a nice crunch. They serve generous portions--we ended up taking leftovers home. As for drinks, they offer a different juice and tea drink every day. When we went, they had a honeydew lime juice with mint, but I chose the white tea with peach and mint--so good and just slightly sweet! Free refills while you dine there. For dessert, they have a glass case at the front with cookies and pastries. We loved their shortbread cookies with either strawberry or grape jelly in the middle. They are reminiscent of the Knott's cookies but ten times better!!! We wish we bought more than three cookies to share between the two of us!!!! We will definitely buy more of those cookies next time! read more

We got the ultimate chicken sandwich and we have NEVER had anything like this. The fries were amazing but that sandwich was insane. We crossed the street to eat on someone's steps since there was nowhere else to sit and after a couple of minutes we heard them open the door behind us....they came out and brought us napkins and waters when we thought they were going to tell us to get off their steps. Probably the best fried chicken in Long Beach or pretty close... Honey gave it a 10, said it was crispy and moist. It even heated back up with a nice crunch. The chicken is huge and for 1/2 a bird it's price is reasonable. Mac & Cheese and garlic noodles are really yummy as well. Love supporting our locally owned mom and pop establishments.
