Ordered takeout and was satisfied. I can be a bit picky with Pad Thai, it's a staple and typically varies by restaurant. The tamarind base was very flavorful and coated the dish well. I do wish there were more crunchy veggies (brocolli, sprouts, carrot) to contrast the thick and sticky dish. Their egg rolls are too good. Fried perfectly and quite hefty at that! read more

Mind you, a lot of the meat on the left was fat. I know that's what gives the meat flavor, but you shouldn't be serving that to customers. A couple things to know before you go: parking isn't great, and the restaurant gets busy. We showed up around 5:00 p.m. and only waited about 20 minutes, but I could see larger parties having a much longer wait. My go-to dish is the Pad Kra Prow Eggplant with chicken. It's a Thai basil stir-fry with eggplant, onion, and Thai chilis, and I absolutely love it. We also ordered the mussel curry, which my friend picked, and it completely surprised me. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, but it was excellent. The standout, though, was the Khao Soi Noodle Soup with sliced rib-eye beef. Somehow I'd never ordered the dish they're most famous for, and now I understand why. It absolutely lived up to the hype. The broth with the rib-eye was incredible and is something I'd recommend to anyone visiting for the first time. My biggest criticism is that the rice portions feel smaller than they used to. With how much delicious curry and sauce you get, I found myself wishing there was just a little more rice to soak everything up. I also noticed that the green beans in the Pad Kra Prow Eggplant are very al dente. Personally, I'd prefer if they were blanched just a bit so they were slightly more tender. If the goal is to add texture, I'd almost rather see crunch come from something like cashews instead--but that's just my preference. For dessert, we had the mango sticky rice and another dessert with sweet milk dumplings and red beans. Both were fantastic and a great way to end the meal. Vibes of the restaurant are great. It's a small venue, but they work quickly, and a staff was very welcoming. Overall, Chiang Rai continues to be my favorite Thai spot in Southern California. If it's your first visit, the Khao Soi with sliced rib-eye is absolutely the dish I'd tell you to order.

We started with the papaya salad. It was just okay--I'm still trying to figure out why there was a blanket of romaine lettuce casually lounging on top. I ordered medium spice, which turned out to be "medium if you breathe fire for fun." The papaya was also a little more raw than I personally like. The tom kha soup was decent, but the real MVP was the drunken noodles with beef. Those noodles were absolutely swimming in savory goodness and perfectly soft. I would've happily ordered a second plate and called it "dessert." Overall, I'd definitely come back--mostly because those drunken noodles are already living rent-free in my head.

It did taste like slight parm, which, even if a little bit more Parmesan was added, maybe this would've tasted a bit better. But apparently all the Parmesan was reserved only for the salads. (This dish was supposed to have a duck base, but this was not cooked properly) not only was I simply turned off by this dish, there was nobody by to help or even get it to go box. But quite honestly, I just left the food which is so sad. Left over pasta is always so good but I really could not continue eating this as I truly did not enjoy the taste. I left hungry and sadly disappointed.

GENERIC. I visited this place last week to check it out. I found it by accident the week before when I was passing by. I've been to many Original Thai BBQ and so far my gold standard is the one owned by a friend, Chad (in Chino Hills). As expected I ordered my usual S6, Angel Wings Dinner. I've had this dish so many times I know which Original Thai BBQ fails to deliver. The service was great. The server was very friendly and attentive. As for the food, it was very generic. They do use batter to coat the chicken wings instead of the other Original Thai BBQ that breads them but they seem not to know how to make them crispy. Chad and his brothers seems to know the trick, fresh oil maybe? This place surely did not deliver. Another point that this place did not deliver is the shrimp on the shrimp fried rice ... they were small and not fresh. I love seafood and I know if this thing was swimming or chilling in the freezer for a while. It is really a good thing I did not order the shrimp pad thai, which Chad is also my gold standard. Anyway, for a quick bite this place is good enough to satisfy your Thai cravings. It delivers like P.F. Changs deliver on the Chinese side of things. Parking ... at your own risk. The hubs and I were pretty disappointed. Their prices are competitive with other Thai joints in the area but the value is not--pretty inexcusable portions atop iceberg lettuce for volume. While we were there the cops showed up to the parking lot and arrested a guy selling crack sitting outside the restaurant at a table. That was the best part of the meal for sure. Second time, they charged me more justifying it that It was their policy to charge more for no ice. Third time, I had perfect service because the employee working there didn't charge me extra. I order lunch at least 2-3 times a week. It's pretty close to where I work. The best choice I recommend is lunch special which comes with a choice of two chicken and two beef kabobs along with peanut sauce and a side of rice and salad. The price is around $6.50.
