I adore the huge $2.50 slices of cheese pizza. They're so good! Veggie's not bad, too. Stay away from the margherita!

Pizza is just average, however they have a good lunch special I always bought while attending Cal.

The pizza is yummy, great crust, decent portion of toppings. The salads are good as are their sandwiches. Spacious inside. Cheap prices.

This review is dedicated to MK & AK. I didn't get to eat here as much as I wanted to because of the distance. (I'm pretty lazy.) But this place is pretty awesome. This is what I recommend that you do: 1) Make two awesome friends, and find a date you guys can spend at least 3 hours together. 2) Get tickets online (cheaper!) to watch Disassembly at the Impact Theatre. (It's inside La Val's. You can even order food if you arrive early for the show and take food downstairs. It's really cozy.) 3) If you live more than 5 blocks away, drive to Euclid and street park. It's free around dinner time. (Hopefully one of your friends drive. :D ) 4) Watch the show. Laugh, cry, and be confused. The experience is totally worth $10! :D (We all meant to go for the past 4 years, but didn't really get to until our last.) 5) Try to order the pear cider only to find out that it's not carried anymore. Hopefully, your friend knows the manager. He'll mix some lemonade, cider, and wine for you and your friends instead for FREEE! 6) Order hot wings, medium sized pizza (half La Val's Special, half Garden Delight), and Chicken Alfredo. 7) BEAST on all the delicious food! YUMZ! (The pasta is especially good, not too greasy or salty.) I've pretty much tried all the pizzas (delivered) and La Val's aren't the best in Berkeley (After all, how can places compete with gourmet pizzas like Cheeseboard, Little Star, and Zachary's?). 3 stars. But the experience of watching a show and eating afterwards makes La Val's 5 stars! Dine-in at least once, and don't just order pizza. Make sure to order some appetizers and pasta too. La Vals pizza would be the place to go if you are on Northside and are looking for a moderately priced decent-tasting pizza. I must say that the pizza here has certainly grown on me since I spend a lot of my nights in the nearby Soda hall working on programming/research. This place is open till midnights on weekdays and that means that it is sometimes the only place that one can grab a bite during those nights spent in the nearby engineering buildings. The pizza itself can either be ordered in slices or as a whole. The slices are huge but really thin. The whole pizzas tend to be more even and are quite tasty ( try the barbecue chicken) This place also serves chicken wings which tend to be really oily and hence not to my taste ( i would prefer Vinnie's for the wings ). The pastas are good too. I would recommend the Chicken alfredo pasta. The place has a nice vibe to it and is classier than most places in berkeley ( that have a hippie feel to them). They also have a great selection of beer on tap and this is a good place to chill with a beer while having a slice of pizza with friends. And they also show NFL games on their HD TVs. read more

This is one of the best places to eat on the north side of campus. The slices of pizza run pretty large, which is awesome! I always throw dat garlic powder on top too. There's a $5 min for credit card charges but 2 slices will run you 5+ so it's never an issue for me. They make everything pretty quickly and have a good number of TVs to pass the time. There's ample seating and a pool table (mini) that you can pay to play on. Some of their pastas are also pretty good. Bathrooms are clean. read more

Decent pizza but we consistently have a problem with them straight up dumping raw garlic onto their pizza margharita and just sending it out the door. We're talking huge chunks of raw garlic, and it's, uh, a lot. I say that as someone who likes garlic. read more

3.5 stars I guess. Pretty good pizza, relatively thin crust and it has a bit of a chew, it's no Arinell's, but it's not Dominos either. Fun place to watch a game, especially world cup matches. The pizza here is overpriced, not all that delicious, and the crust is not good either. I'm not quite sure what made them think they could charge so much for a plain pepperoni pizza that was super greasy and also tasted plain, as well. The food at La Val's is okay, at best. They deliver to various events in Soda and Cory Hall nearby - in one of my smaller classes that met only once a week, the professor actually ordered La Val's every time we met. Their pizzas are all very greasy, and I usually soak up the extra oil with a napkin before eating a slice. Their cheese pizza and barbecue chicken pizza are alright. I like their Margarita pizza, which has a bit more flavor than the cheese pizza. But my favorite is probably the Athenian. La Val's also offers salad and pasta dishes. The chicken caesar salad is reasonably big, and comes with a lot of chicken, but is also fairly cheap - good for lunch. The chicken alfredo pasta is also pretty big and pretty cheap. The pasta isn't that great; it's filling, but it's usually a bit undercooked, and the garlic bread that comes with it is a bit too hard. The line can get really long around noon for lunch, so I try to beat the crowd by arriving a few minutes before then. read more

:( this was my second time here. I really loved the eggplant Parmesan sandwich, and was trying to get the experience again, but it's been almost 30 min and I still haven't gotten my order yet. I think I'd better order ahead next time. The place is really comfortable with a pool table and some other chill stuff like a claw machine filled with stuffed animals, but this wait is making me sad... Food came after 25 minutes which is understandable because there's a lot of people, but the food seems meh after the long wait. The quality of the food is decent and the prices are very reasonable. This certainly isn't fine-dining by any means, but you can say you get enough "bang for your buck". I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. It wasn't unique in any way, but the quality of the ingredients and just general overall taste was pretty good. I've had their pizza before and again it wasn't anything unique, but it was decent pizza. I went into La Val's with awesome expectations. The pizza looked pretty good on Yelp, and the place was full of Berkley students when I pulled up! I went in to order with my group, and... The guy at the counter had a really hard time understanding out order! It wasn't that complex (half pepperoni, mushroom, and sausage, half vegetable with pineapple and sausage) but we had to explain it several times. When our pizza arrived, part of the sausage was missing! They were packed, so I can understand how there would be a mix up, but... The quality of the pizza itself wasn't great. The veggie toppings tasted really low quality, like mall pizza. The meat toppings were okay, but they weren't incredible. The crust was flavorless for the most part. It wasn't the worst We only went here because Lo Coco's (delicious!) and the Cheeseboard (high rated!) were closed. I wouldn't recommend that you do the same. read more

Decent pizza, not the best - but considering that this is in a college area mostly populated with students, probably a great place for people to grab a slice and do some studying. Prices are very reasonable. I have been coming to La Vals for several years, but as a vegan it was quite disappointing. I would usually get a spinach salad with no cheese or a really soggy sad pizza with no cheese, just veggies. BUT NOW... They have VEGAN cheese you can add as a substitute ($1 extra) which makes their pizza taste delicious and probably a lot closer to what normal people are experiencing. And if you are ordering a whole pizza be sure to check out their coupons online or on the back of their flyers. read more

This place has the best buffalo wings in berkeley. I had a phase where I was addicted to their wings. Place has amazing vibe to it. With its small arcades, a pool table, and its spaciousness, this place is great for families, couples, and friends. Definitely deserve the five star. read more

All non-pizza dishes are utterly tasteless. That's not as bad as actually tasting bad, as they just have no taste whatsoever. The pizza is okay, at best. Some would say that the pizza quality is directly proportional to the time you have to spend soaking grease off the top. I suppose it would asymptote to some maximum goodness level. Unfortunately, this level is not terribly high. This place is serviceable because it is convenient and fairly cheap. That free drink crap is bs, though. If you order two slices, they try to give you a "free" large drink to go with it. If you insist that you do not want the "free" drink, they charge you less...most of the time.
