Great food, hit or miss service. Definitely get signed into the Yelp waitlist as Imm Thai is always bustling, even at 3pm on a weekend! -2 stars for service. One of the staff members were so sweet and regularly checked up on everyone, but our main server was incredibly rude. My vegetarian friend wasn't able to eat eggs but the rest of the table could, so we asked kindly if it's possible to just have it put on the side. I understand if they couldn't do it for whatever reason, but we were just met with so much passive aggressiveness for asking. It made the mood very unpleasant. But honestly, I find it strange as most restaurants are pretty understanding of dietary restrictions and can make modifications to cater to their many costumers. This is hands down my favorite Thai place in Berkeley, as there are several of them. I've been coming here for years now and I still remember the very first time like it was yesterday. What drew me to this place initially back then was the large crowd outside, which I later realized was people patiently waiting to be seated. Let's just say, I always judge a restaurant by the number of people lining out the door. So I ate there and fell in love INSTANTLY. It's a small quaint place that gets packed very quickly, especially during lunch/dinner rush times. I love that you can see the entire kitchen staff cooking your food, and the service is pretty fast, considering they pretty much stay busy. My go-to's are what I always get every single time because I just can't go wrong with their pad see ew (with beef), Thai fried rice, fried egg rolls, pumpkin curry and of course, their Thai iced tea! The side size bowl is generous. 5/5 - Crispy Pumpkin squash pieces with a sweet peanut sauce were tasty. Super crisp, hot and freshly prepared while not being oily. 4/5 - Papaya Salad vegetarian style was fresh. The sauce was mild spicy and overall pretty good. The lettuce was large and awkward. 3.5/5 - Chicken Satay Skewers came with a slightly nutty sauce, though texture of chicken itself was a bit tough, not tender or juicy. Came with some pickled veggies. It's a pretty busy location so use the tablet waitlist and then walk around nearby. Since food is churned out efficiently, table turnover is reasonable.
