Okay not to be dramatic but this was the YUMMIEST Thai food I've EVER had. It will cost you a pretty penny ($30 for an elevated cup of noodles stir fried with braised beef is INSANE) but I don't mind if it's great food. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating! Servers were kind and let us sit wherever we wanted. I loved the ambiance! The Thai iced tea? Best I've ever had. So fragrant and potent. We got the fried chicken wings and that was absolutely delicious. The batter was thick and crunchy and the meat was so tender it would slip off the bone. The spicy pineapple sauce that came with it was the cherry on top. I wish it was DRENCHED in it. 12/10. The pad see mao is the spicy version of pad see ew but the spice almost tasted smokey. It was really good. The dessert was actually the best part of our meal which by this time was hard to believe. We got the coconut shindig and it had coconut peels, coconut sorbet, and sticky rice. Fabulous upscale casual Thai food in Berkeley! We bravely went without a reservation and were seated within 10 min. Lucky us! We ordered the branzino and steak and both were 5/5. We especially appreciated the freshness and perfect fry on the branzino. Steak was a bit sweet for us but cook was perfect and loved the charred broccolini with it. Service was lovely and ambiance was very hip. This place is on the pricier side of casual dining. You can definitely dress up but it's okay to dress down, too. We came to Farmhouse Kitchen Thai with some very dear friends. We made a reservation for 6pm which was nice and early, beat the rush! As we sat and enjoyed our evening the tables filled up fast. We were out on the patio and the weather was perfect. We started with refreshing non-alcoholic cocktails for the ladies - Pink Ladies! They were a little pricey for not having alcohol in them ($15 ea). The guys ordered Chang Thai Beer (only $5 ea). We also ordered the Tao Hoo Tod ($12) fried tofu with peanut sauce. Our friends both got the Tofu Noodle Soup ($18.95 ea). My husband got his favorite Pad Thai with vegetables ($20.95 + $2) and I got the Pad See You with tofu and vegetables ($20.95 + $2). Everyone was really happy with their choices. For dessert we shared the Thai Vacation that was very fun and festive, with an umbrella! The most insanely delicious Thai spot!! We got the fried chicken, the yellow curry, the egg rolls, and the pad Thai. We got the blue rice too!! Every single thing we ate was *chefs kiss* perfection. The seafood pad thai with bone broth base hit different from the standard version, lobster and crab version is a full event. San Juan sizzling seafood plate came out on a screaming hot cast iron and stayed interesting until the last bite. Whole fried branzino with the tamarind sauce is the thing to order if there are two of you. Cocktail program is creative and pairs well with the spice levels. While I don't know if I'd go to Farmhouse for a casual dinner, it was a great spot for my family for a birthday dinner. The food and ambiance isn't what I call homey or authentic, but it's good, fresh, reasonablish portions for the price, and the place has hip/more upscale vibes. While once an iconic SF restaurant in the Mission, Farmhouse has expanded greatly and is now more of a regional chain with 5 locations in the Bay and a few elsewhere. While prices are on the higher end for what we know for Thai, most prices everywhere are high, and the food here is truly good. The menu has the staples of Thai restaurants but also some unique options you don't find elsewhere including lobster dishes, vibrant blue rice, and their famed fried chicken. Service was fine. Food does skew spicy and we sadly had zero water refills and no server in sight. They do have a kids menu which is fun! My kids enjoyed the fried chicken with rice. The green curry is delicious and noodles perfectly cooked and sauced. Overall, a great place for a celebratory event with really well made and fresh Thai food and fun cocktails. read more

Farmhouse Thai was a consolation prize. The place we wanted to go was overrun by all the people who didn't spend the weekend at Burning Man. It was a good day for them because they have lovely outdoor dining. They also have a lift, which meant I didn't have to navigate stairs. Service was good. We were able to sit right away and got served quickly. The food was good. I didn't have a big appetite, but some of the specials seemed like something to see/taste. I kept hoping someone would order one of their platters or more elaborate dishes. Alas, it was not to be. Everyone seened to be eating the street food like us. The vibe felt a bit off for me. Food: everything we had was really delicious. The pad Thai is super chewy and had an awesome balance and kick in flavor. The vegan fresh rolls were my personal winner of the meal though. Ingredients were very simple but paired with the sauces, it had such a flavor that I couldn't imagine. Portion sizes were fair and appropriate however, it is definitely on the pricier side. For 3 dishes and no drinks, it costed $80 and these were the cheaper items on the menu. Ambiance: very lovely decorations and very cute aesthetics. Perfect for a date or just a nice lunch. They managed to pack quite a fair amount of seating in their small space Service: we showed up on a Sunday afternoon where there were about 6 tables of guests and 2 waiters on the floor. The Southeast Asian food around Berkeley is not to be missed. This is one of my favorite Thai places in the area. The noodles are always perfectly cooked, and the sauces are well-balanced. The food is a bit more expensive but also larger portioned than most Thai food--and holds up well as leftovers when reheated with a bit of oil. They're also reasonably accommodating to requests and substitutions. The mango sticky rice was also very good. The dessert itself is pretty simple and basically comes down to the quality of the rice and the freshness of the mango, which were both great. The rice is also blue (!) which is definitely interesting, memorable, and good for photos. Everything I've tasted so far has been delicious. I haven't tried the curries here yet, but I look forward to coming back in the future! read more

The restaurant is really beautiful with their lighting and view. They also did accommodate a table for 8-10 people next to us if you're looking to reserve a large party. I've dined at both the SF and Oakland locations before. Oakland started off really strong for me but over time the food felt a little inconsistent, and the SF location personally just did not hit for me. But this Berkeley location? Okayyyy now let's get into it. Parking here is definitely challenging, so give yourself extra time. We came on Mother's Day with reservations at 2 PM, right before they closed for their dinner reset at 3, and we were still seated pretty quickly which I appreciated, especially with how busy it was. We sat outside on the patio and honestly it was such a nice vibe. They do have outdoor heaters if needed, but the weather was perfect that day. We did everything à la carte for a party of 7. Appetizers: Vegan Spring Rolls: 5/5 Super crispy and fresh. The chili peanut sauce was so good we kept going back for more. Crispy Pork Belly: 1/5 Way too overcooked for our liking. It came out super dry and chewy, almost like a thick pork jerky. Definitely not something we would order again. Main dishes: Panang Neua: 5/5 OMG. This was the dish I came for and it absolutely delivered. The meat literally falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. The sauce leans salty, so pairing it with the blue rice balances everything out perfectly. So rich and flavorful. Crab Fried Rice: 5/5 The large chunks of crab really made this dish stand out. It was flavorful, not dry, and not overly mushy either. Solid all around. Hat Yai Fried Chicken: 2/5 Too thin and too dry for us. I would not reorder this dish, but the roti it came with was actually really good dipped into the sauce. Beef Larb: 5/5 Wagyu beef? Say less. This dish was perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor. Straight chef's kiss. Yellow Curry: 4/5 Honestly you really can't go wrong with yellow curry here. Comforting, flavorful, and paired well with everything else we ordered. And of course we ended with the mango sticky rice to share because you simply have to. It was the mango on top to finish the meal. Overall, this Berkeley location easily gave us the best experience out of the three. Great service, beautiful patio seating, and several dishes that were genuinely memorable. I love everything about this place !!! Huge sizes so they are for two to share FYI. The decoration is fun and the food is amazing literally everything is delicious. The crab fried rice comes with tons of real crab and a palate cleansing broth. The Thai tea comes like a snow cone so cute, also if I ate red meat I'd order the cup of noodles next time because it looks great. The fresh rolls don't have avocado but make up for it in uniqueness. Really friendly service quick and attentive. Advice- don't sit toward the back of the patio because people will be walking behind you the whole time so just make sure you have room around your table as the space is narrow. Looks can be very deceiving. Overall, this restaurant felt completely whitewashed, with none of the authentic, complete Thai flavor you'd expect. Very disappointing experience. Overpriced for the quality, and the food consistently lacked flavor. I'm honestly confused how this place has such a high rating--it doesn't seem to reflect what actually landed on our table. The pricing itself feels misleading. Menu prices are shown but you're charged extra if you actually want to add meat--on top of a base price that's already not reasonable. A few more examples: a small bowl of plain white rice was an extra $4.50 on top of a curry order. ( it comes with rice during lunch they said but not dinner, Ridiculous) The vegetable tofu soup was bland to the point that I had to add the three seasonings they provided just to make it edible--honestly, a pack of Korean-made Shin Ramyun noodles has better flavor than this soup did. The noodles tasted like they'd been cooked well in advance and left sitting before being added to the dish--not fresh at all. The Pad Thai was the least flavorful version I've had anywhere, with none of the depth or balance you'd expect from genuine Thai cooking, and the noodles themselves lacked texture too--they felt old and stale rather than freshly made. Forget Imm Thai--this is my new go-to spot for Thai food. From presentation to flavor, everything delivers a solid 10/10. Among the classics, the pad thai was the best I've ever had. I still think Imm Thai does pad see ew slightly better, but this place holds its own. The Thai iced tea is pretty unique with a dome of shaved ice, but I wasn't a fan--it ended up being too watery. The khao soi (a curry noodle soup) is on the pricier side, but the generous pieces of beef short rib are unbelievably tender and completely worth it. The roti mataba also makes for an excellent appetizer--hearty and savory. And the Thai vacation omg...coconut ice cream and blue sticky rice served inside a coconut shell, topped with fresh coconut meat. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the best dessert I've ever had. Skip the mango sticky rice and order this; I'd come back for it alone. Service is consistently polite, attentive, and thoughtful. We knew reservations are preferred but we walked in and they were full inside but they seated us outside on the heated patio. Seating here is fewer than both the other locations, but it is a smaller restaurant. We opted to sit outside. There is an ADA entry as well which is an elevator lift. So we ordered too much. These were the appetizers: Vegan fresh rolls - fresh tasting Roti mataba - probably my fave appetizer because I love different types of bread. It's an unleavened, soft flatbread used for scooping up curry. I'd eat it on its own. Farmhouse wings - perfectly crispy and seasoned. They never disappoint. Crispy egg rolls - as expected & I was delighted Drinks: I ordered the Lod Chong, which is their version of Pima colada and made with coconut cream. She ordered a non-alcoholic drink. They do have a mocktail menu but it is small. I believe its only three items. Entrees: I ordered yellow curry without any meat. I can't remember what my friend ordered but this was on September 6. We didn't finish our food anyway but it did make for having good leftovers. After we had finished ordering I noticed there was a menu with photos that other guests were getting that we had not. Thinking that menu might've been different, we brought it to our waiter's attention and they brought us one. It was just pictures of their entree items, and though I've been to this chain of restaurants in different locations, I'm not an expert on the menu nor have I ordered everything. I figured that would have been helpful to have from the beginning, as it did take us some time to order and we used our phones to look up some of the items for a pictorial representation. The green curry and neua num tok rolls are ok. The papaya salad is spicy, watch out. The thai tea was actually my least favorite. The ice ball is so extra and does less than nothing. Until it melts, the tea is too bitter and thick to drink and when it does melt, the tea turns too watery. In the meantime, your paper straw will wilt or get clogged up with ice and your drink might overflow if you drink too less. TL;DR Get the thai tea WITHOUT the ice ball. The restaurant is popular. We called the day before to reserve. It's a nice place to eat with friends and family for the vibes but if I just wanted good ol'Thai food, this would not be my choice. read more

The food here is amazing. I tried the fresh rolls which come with tofu, bean sprouts, mint, vermicelli noodle with a super soft, fresh rice paper wrapping and the most amazing chili peanut dipping sauce that has just the slightest hint of heat. If that wasn't good enough, we also tried what the staff called a "thai taco". Not sure which one this is on the menu but this is an absolute must try. It was a small scoop of coconut rice with peanuts, and other fillings wrapped up in a fresh leaf and was so delicious. A perfect blend of refreshing yet savory, I could probably eat 10 of these in one go. The restaurant isn't big - there is probably more outdoor seating than there is indoor seating. The decor has a retro/modern vibe - one of the first things you see as you walk in is a giraffe sculpture holding a chandelier in its mouth, which somehow works with the overall aesthetic of the place. Visited Berkeley to drop off our daughter going sophomore year at Cal. We were craving Thai cuisine and found the Farmhouse Kitchen on Shattuck Avenue. We made a reservation for dinner and were seated on the second floor with an open view of the nearby neighborhood. The staff were very friendly and they wore authentic Thai-style cultural uniforms. They all look professional and the ambiance felt as if we were in Thailand. We ordered the red and green curries with their house fried rice. We also had the crispy lechon and empanada with a flavorful peanut butter sauce. Everything was delicious packed with spices elevating the quality of the food. The dessert platter sealed the deal. It came with a combination of sweetened sticky rice with ube-flavored wrapped around a sliced ripe mangoes. The chocolate bun was soft and perfect with the vanilla ice cream. Yum another great Thai place in Berkeley! It's a beautiful spot with indoor and outdoor seating. It's in downtown Berkeley so street parking. I came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and there was a small wait so they could set up a table, it wasn't crowded. Service was fast and the servers were kind and checked up on us multiple times and refilled waters. I most enjoyed the pad thai and pad see you, both are not spicy but very flavorful. The pad thai was not as sweet as other places which I liked. The yellow curry was good; it was a little spicy and liquidy, not thicker like most places. I would pass on the farmhouse wings, I expected smaller glazed wings but they were more like just big pieces of fried chicken with a side of sauce, not bad though. My son ordered the special crab fried rice, and he liked it, but for $48.95, it's not that "special". My son's girlfriend had the pad see-ewe, which she said was ok compared to most Thai places that we've been to. I had the seua rong hai, which was on the dry side, since they sliced the meat too thin and overcooked it. I did request to have it medium rare, but the server said that the chef only cooks it one way. How unfortunate because it would've been perfect if cooked medium rare. My husband had the oxtail curry, which was also on the salty side. The only extremely happy person was my daughter because she really enjoyed her anchan flower limeade. TLDR: It felt like we were really paying for the experience, not the quantity of food. While the flavors are what we expected and were fairly solid, the prices were high for the amount of food we got. We did see another table get the normal dishes, and in hindsight that would have been the better option to split family style. It also didn't help that right after we ordered, this couple walked in, sat down to look at the menu, and then left. They had uttered the same thing that the prices were high for what they were expecting, so they decided to go somewhere else. Food: 3/5 They did nail the flavors, but there really wasn't anything special or different about the dishes that would make me want to go back and pay these prices when there are other thai spots in the area. We got one sampler plate, which in hindsight, we should have just order 2 of these or normal plates. We also had the fried chicken wings, which were solid, but only came with 3 wings. The thai teas were really good and aesthetic, but if you don't drink it fast enough and the shaved ice melts, it will become very watered down. For reference to quantity and price comparison, you can see how much food was and split between 2 people, the price came out to be almost $40 with tax/tip EACH!!! It was also difficult to really give a tip value that we wanted to because the waitress stood there at our table until we finished filling out the tip value. We did do a quick google review to get the free dessert, which was honestly my favorite item lol. It was a coconut granita with vegan coconut ice cream and as a coconut lover, it was super refreshing and very yummy! The waitress did ask to see the review right then and there, but it wasn't really a quick scan to see if you did it. She actually read it, at least that's how it felt. Staff/Space: 4/5 The staff were really nice and attentive, made sure that we were doing alright. It was really just the small issue of the hovering over our table until we finished filling out the tip mentioned above. The space was a nice spot if you're there for the aesthetics. Service was okay but a bit overbearing. The food just didn't hit the mark--too saucy and overwhelming in flavor (not in a good way). I ordered the Lobster Pad Thai, and the lobster was overcooked and didn't taste fresh. Cocktails were overpriced and lacked taste. Overall, this place feels more geared toward social media than serving genuinely good food. I wouldn't recommend coming here. read more
