A solid 3.5 stars but rounding up to support a new business! I've visited the rooftop lounge a few times so I've seen a few updates and changes. The atmosphere is nice within the bar area as well as the outdoor section. There are great firepits and they offer patrons blankets at night. There's a variety of seating options from firepit benches to high tops. Lovely view of the city especially during sunset! The service is always attentive and quick. The manager is always on site speaking to guests. He even ran my plate and drinks when they were swamped lol. The drinks are good and consistent though a bit pricey, but hey, you're in a hotel technically. It gets tricky when it comes to the food. It's just okay. I'd stick to the simple bar style dishes opposed to the entrees. Entree taste just doesn't justify the price tbh. Overall, would I come back? Yeah would I recommend it to a friend? But I found the mussels that I ordered to be first class - five star restaurant quality , with a great broth, I ordered extra bread to sop up and enjoy with a second glass of wine, then third. I went on a Saturday at 4:30, and it was so so fun!! I loved the vibes, the fire pit was amazing and I loved seeing the views change from day to sunset to night. Such a great rooftop bar overlooking Berkeley and even can see Mount Tam in the distance!!! There is a nice inside area too if the outside is too crowded. There was a live DJ as well I noticed on the inside as I was going to the bathroom. Mike was our waiter and he was so attentive and nice! Service was so fast and friendly. Came here especially for the view from the rooftop-- unfortunately there was no seating available! I will have to see if they allow reservations next time. You have to walk into the hotel and ask to be let into the elevator for this lounge. Staff were super friendly and helpful. It was a bit busy, so there was a wait time to order once we were seated. The food was worth the wait! I got the pizza of the day and it was sooo flavorful. I also ordered the sweet potato tater tots and they were amazing and they give you a big portion! A nice small lounge to come to. Would've loved to sit outside but bay area fog makes that impossible. This place is quite small but very relaxing. We ordered so much food and everything were good. From the parmesan chicken wings, calamari to the big salad (it is a big portion) all the way to chocolate dessert. Service was awesome. Towards the end of the meal my friends and I talked about my birthday, (that same day), which has heard by our server. He offered a birthday drink or cheesecake. Cheesecake was good. I am so glad I found this rooftop lounge with beautiful views of Berkeley. Fantastic if you want a more grown up vibe from the dive bars full of college kids. They have a live DJ at night and the drinks and food are pretty solid. I loved the Honey Bear Bellini. This is an amazing place to lounge and relax if you go in a group, date, or even by yourself. The Brussels Sprouts were a little overcooked but had a really nice glaze. My chicken sandwich was a little undercooked in some areas. This was my first time coming to the Study Hall Rooftop which it has been on my list of places to try for awhile. I can honestly say I really loved this place. When I arrived it was alittle confusing because everyone kept saying I needed a key card to get to the rooftop..which I didn't. I walked in and they do have a hostess ready to seat you. They have a live DJ which I thought was super cool! I ordered the Waygu burger that was super delicious! My friend had a BBQ chicken flatbread which was also delicious. Heading to the Greek Theatre for a show with my dad, we wanted to try a new spot outside of our typical Shattuck food & bevvie locales. After hearing about Study Hall Rooftop and seeing a few great social campaigns, we decided to give it a try since it's not only close to the venue, but checked all the boxes we were looking for. Convenience, great drink menu, yummy food, epic views, and local brews. We needed a new father/daughter picture and Study Hall provided that for us for the perfect Berkeley backdrop. Yuki was such a fun server, full of smiles and a great time. The crowd was starting to pick up while we enjoyed a few rounds, an order of Brussels and the burger. The Brussels were delicious and made just how I enjoy them ~ thinly-shaved and toasted. These came with peanuts, a sweet soy glaze, and topped with Fresno chilis. The burger was done just right too ~ double Wagyu patties with a delicious garlic aioli you could bottle up. Nicely done. While we were leaving to jet set into our night of music, we noticed a DJ setting up. Such a great space and place for a fun happy hour meet up, date night, for groups, or just a solo ride. Ok this is now my second time going here in two years and was excited to finally try the food until I realized there was a menu switch. I went here with my bf and hyped up everything about the place from the view to the food. There were only about 6 ppl in here when we went and we didn't get asked to be seated by the window? Why ? I do not know. But if part of the appeal about your establishment is the view would you want me to be seated there? Especially if there are many empty window seats available? I digress. I go over the menu to look for some of the food items I've seen over the years like the shrimp tacos which are null & void. I needed up ordering the Mahi tacos. My boyfriend ordered the chicken sandwich. When the food arrived the presentation was a 10/10! However, the taste was not. The Mahi tacos were all fish and a sprinkle of pico, sour cream, & guacamole sauce. My bf. Chicken sandwich had little to no flavor to it and they only gave him a handful of fries. Fish was overcooked, almost burnt with a hard fried texture in spots. Im not sure how they got this so wrong but the chips and trio of dips was awful. The chips were cold, hard, stale, and unsalted. The guacamole was so bland, it tasted like it only had mashed avocado and chopped tomatoes. No salt, garlic, onion, cilantro, lime. The salsa was so mild it tasted like stewed tomatoes. The food was good (we ordered drinks and appetizers) and the cocktails were excellent. Our server was super nice and helpful. Getting up to the restaurant was simple, I received help from the security guard on the ground floor. They escorted me to the elevators and made sure I was headed in the right direction :) we sat outside because of the privacy but the inside was gorgeous too! Staying at the Marriott during my most recent work trip, and decided to visit Study Hall for happy hour. When my husband and I first sat down, the bartender wasn't giving vibes of being friendly. After about 20 minutes, he started chatting with us and the vibes lighten up. I ordered a Vodka sour and my husband had a gin martini, both were good. Prices are decently priced. The menu is pretty extensive, so I'm sure you can find something. We didn't order food so can't speak for it. Overall, good location and I would definitely visit on my next work trip. read more

It is close to UC Berkeley and the modern decor is beautiful. The place is pricey and the portions are not that filling. The service left me a little bit wanting. Considering the upscale design and location, I thought I would have better service. The bartender and severs were socializing while customers waited to order or waited for their food/drinks. I think it was very overpriced with hidden fees. The final prices seem to be about double the listed prices on the menu. What particularly got me was a percentage fee to cover the employee health insurance... I suppose if I order my drinks they will get better healthcare? They also wouldn't let us sit outside because of it being 'booked up' despite there being only about 2 people out there. Seems to defeat the purpose of a rooftop bar if you can't go on the rooftop? The food was about the same level as Cheesecake factory, where it is impossible to tell what cuisine it is actually from. I think it would be a good idea to go here if you have time to call ahead, plan to drink enough to the point where you don't care too much about how the food tastes, and also are very price insensitive. I think it's more that they're understaffed; management issue. Cool list of drinks. And they'll smoke 'em with flavored smoke for a neat twist that I rarely see. Very fun place to hang out. This rooftop is located inside Residence Inn Hotel. We came on a Saturday evening around 6PM, plenty of cozy seats outside as it wasn't really busy. We asked for seats on the outside to enjoy the view. We also brought our Yorkie & our server was nice enough to bring him a little bowl of water. We ordered a few drinks off the menu and a couple appetizers, truffle fries and chips with three different dips. The appetizers are a really good size and great for sharing. I thought the drinks were okay, I did enjoy the espresso martini, the froth was so fluffy which I really liked. Unfortunately, we were sat at a table without a heater.
