Hands down, Angel makes the best drinks in Berkeley! If you haven't already, come to the rooftop and order a drink to see for yourself.

The food is pretty good for the price (I had three tacos for $24, but they were fresh grilled Mahi mahi). And they have at least a couple of nonalcoholic drinks (I had an NA beer). Service was minimal - we got our food, but later we had to chase them down for our bill. Ambiance - we came to hear the Hogan Brothers play on Thursday night out on the rooftop deck. It would be best to make a reservation - some of the seating has couches and gas fireplace style heating, but not all. And it's not in the shade, so wear your sunblock and/or hat, and if it's windy, you'll want a jacket and scarf. If you sit along the side, there are nice views of the Bay. read more

Ended up coming here twice on a very busy work trip - once for dinner, once for drinks. The views are great from here - massive view of the Berkeley area and lots of great spaces that feel cozy and more private than just a massive open area which I appreciated. Patio heaters and fire pits are also plentiful and available in nearly all the outdoor spots which was great. I normally avoid hotel bars, especially being in an area that has such amazing food and options but it was late when I got in and the least amount of effort and time is what won out. I had the nachos with chicken and they were decent. There was a lot of queso and I would have liked more spice (no jalapenos???) but they were decent enough. They have some decent wine options that are pretty reasonable as well. The service is where I think this place suffers. While the service was friendly, both nights when I was by myself and when I was with coworkers, it felt like we were completely forgotten about. It wasn't super busy either but it took forever to get anything, no one came and checked on us (I would have asked for jalapenos for my nachos if they had but I waited so long they were getting cold). So, if you're in a pinch it's not a bad option but give it extra time. It is absolutely worth checking out for the view though. read more

Stumbled upon this awesome rooftop bar and lounge while walking around Berkeley on Fourth of July, we were immediately seated outside with a wonderful view of the bay. They had live music going on, Karim did a phenomenal job hosting us, he was nothing short of incredible, he was very gracious, very welcoming and super friendly. I had the oxtail pasta which was delicious and had a very generous serving of shredded oxtail on it. Washed it down with a lovely Cab. I would definitely comeback. read more

This place has amazing views from the rooftop! The fire places are super cool. They have a DJ or live music over the weekends. Their Brussels sprouts are 5/5. The edamame 4/5 and truffle fries 3/5. The cocktails are incredible! My fav was Golden spritz but the final exam was very pretty and amazing too. The service is also 5/5. Fun place for drinks and appetizers. Sad to update my review on this place. The last experience I had here really soured this place for me. We had made a reservation online earlier in the day to sit outside on the rooftop, no issues. We were also staying in the hotel so it was super convenient. We go to check in and we are told the outdoor area is closed for an event. I come here because I like the views. There was no update beforehand that the seating area was unavailable and I was confused on why they left this option open online. On top of that, the service was subpar. My friend and I ordered drinks and appetizers. The spinach dip and tomato & burrata salad. The salad was super watery on the plate and the dip came out barely warm. We ordered a bottle of prosecco and we didn't receive it until after we had already had our appetizers. We decided to not order entrees because of how disappointed we were. read more

Service was confused as to what was or was not on the menu. And the food was not very good. We had the spinach artichoke dip and it was bland and tasteless. They just served cheap tortilla chips, when I would have expected crusty bread, pita chips, or other higher quality crackers. We asked for more chips, and they charged us an extra $5!! I went on a Saturday at 4:30, and it was so so fun!! I loved the vibes, the fire pit was amazing and I loved seeing the views change from day to sunset to night. Such a great rooftop bar overlooking Berkeley and even can see Mount Tam in the distance!!! There is a nice inside area too if the outside is too crowded. There was a live DJ as well I noticed on the inside as I was going to the bathroom. Mike was our waiter and he was so attentive and nice! Service was so fast and friendly. He answered our questions about what dishes/drinks to have and was so helpful! K now on to the food & drinks. Everything was so on point!!! Brussel sprouts with chopped peanuts on them were incredible, truffle parm fries were so good and such a good portion size, smash burger and fried chicken sandwich were both so incredibly good. The views make this place worth it. On a clear day, you can see everything. We came on a Friday evening and they had live music and had blankets (bring a sweatshirt for sure). Came here especially for the view from the rooftop-- unfortunately there was no seating available! I will have to see if they allow reservations next time. You have to walk into the hotel and ask to be let into the elevator for this lounge. Staff were super friendly and helpful. It was a bit busy, so there was a wait time to order once we were seated. A nice small lounge to come to. Would've loved to sit outside but bay area fog makes that impossible. This place is quite small but very relaxing. We ordered so much food and everything were good. From the parmesan chicken wings, calamari to the big salad (it is a big portion) all the way to chocolate dessert. Service was awesome. Towards the end of the meal my friends and I talked about my birthday, (that same day), which has heard by our server. He offered a birthday drink or cheesecake. Cheesecake was good. Spectacular views of the Bay and a DJ spinning 90s to 2000s music on Fridays and Saturdays. Food was decent but not outstanding. The Brussels Sprouts were a little overcooked but had a really nice glaze. My chicken sandwich was a little undercooked in some areas. A solid 3.5 stars but rounding up to support a new business! I've visited the rooftop lounge a few times so I've seen a few updates and changes. The atmosphere is nice within the bar area as well as the outdoor section. There are great firepits and they offer patrons blankets at night. There's a variety of seating options from firepit benches to high tops. Lovely view of the city especially during sunset! The service is always attentive and quick. The manager is always on site speaking to guests. He even ran my plate and drinks when they were swamped lol. The drinks are good and consistent though a bit pricey, but hey, you're in a hotel technically. It gets tricky when it comes to the food. It's just okay. This was my first time coming to the Study Hall Rooftop which it has been on my list of places to try for awhile. I can honestly say I really loved this place. When I arrived it was alittle confusing because everyone kept saying I needed a key card to get to the rooftop..which I didn't. I walked in and they do have a hostess ready to seat you. I am so glad I found this rooftop lounge with beautiful views of Berkeley. Fantastic if you want a more grown up vibe from the dive bars full of college kids. They have a live DJ at night and the drinks and food are pretty solid. I loved the Honey Bear Bellini. This is an amazing place to lounge and relax if you go in a group, date, or even by yourself. Heading to the Greek Theatre for a show with my dad, we wanted to try a new spot outside of our typical Shattuck food & bevvie locales. After hearing about Study Hall Rooftop and seeing a few great social campaigns, we decided to give it a try since it's not only close to the venue, but checked all the boxes we were looking for. Convenience, great drink menu, yummy food, epic views, and local brews. We needed a new father/daughter picture and Study Hall provided that for us for the perfect Berkeley backdrop. Yuki was such a fun server, full of smiles and a great time. The crowd was starting to pick up while we enjoyed a few rounds, an order of Brussels and the burger. The Brussels were delicious and made just how I enjoy them ~ thinly-shaved and toasted. These came with peanuts, a sweet soy glaze, and topped with Fresno chilis. The burger was done just right too ~ double Wagyu patties with a delicious garlic aioli you could bottle up. Nicely done. While we were leaving to jet set into our night of music, we noticed a DJ setting up. Such a great space and place for a fun happy hour meet up, date night, for groups, or just a solo ride. Ok this is now my second time going here in two years and was excited to finally try the food until I realized there was a menu switch. I went here with my bf and hyped up everything about the place from the view to the food. There were only about 6 ppl in here when we went and we didn't get asked to be seated by the window? Why ? I do not know. But if part of the appeal about your establishment is the view would you want me to be seated there? Especially if there are many empty window seats available? I digress. I go over the menu to look for some of the food items I've seen over the years like the shrimp tacos which are null & void. I needed up ordering the Mahi tacos. My boyfriend ordered the chicken sandwich. When the food arrived the presentation was a 10/10! However, the taste was not. The Mahi tacos were all fish and a sprinkle of pico, sour cream, & guacamole sauce. My bf. Chicken sandwich had little to no flavor to it and they only gave him a handful of fries. Fish was overcooked, almost burnt with a hard fried texture in spots. Im not sure how they got this so wrong but the chips and trio of dips was awful. The chips were cold, hard, stale, and unsalted. The guacamole was so bland, it tasted like it only had mashed avocado and chopped tomatoes. No salt, garlic, onion, cilantro, lime. The salsa was so mild it tasted like stewed tomatoes. Staying at the Marriott during my most recent work trip, and decided to visit Study Hall for happy hour. When my husband and I first sat down, the bartender wasn't giving vibes of being friendly. After about 20 minutes, he started chatting with us and the vibes lighten up. I ordered a Vodka sour and my husband had a gin martini, both were good. Prices are decently priced. The food was good (we ordered drinks and appetizers) and the cocktails were excellent. Our server was super nice and helpful. Getting up to the restaurant was simple, I received help from the security guard on the ground floor.
