I'm out and about in Berkeley today and I saw that my Yelp community manager Gina enjoyed visiting here. She's right - it's very fun. I arrived at opening, 2pm. I'm sure it's more of a nighttime experience. Firstly, I took advantage of the speakeasy beer option, which is hidden in the back of the bar. It's self serve with a nice selection. You're given a card that allows you to pour what you want. For food, I did a shrimp and a lamb, yes, I said lamb, taco. Both were great. The lamb was surprisingly great as a taco meat. Very rich and tender with warm, Indian type spices. I finished it off with a Pimm's cocktail from their happy hour menu made with a ginger syrup. Delicious. The bartender/server, Christine, was excellent. She really made me feel comfortable here. As I said, I feel like this is more of a nighttime place, and my review is for afternoon. read more

We stopped into Tap In Lounge and it ended up being one of the more unexpected spots of the night. The location feels a bit random, and once inside it only gets more interesting. There is a hidden, speakeasy style door that leads to the restrooms and bar taps tucked in the back, which adds to the overall experience. We stuck with cocktails, and they were strong and alcohol forward. We tried the Sipping Into Darkness and the Cane and Cacao, both well made with bold flavors. These are not light, overly sweet drinks, and may not be for everyone. Overall, a unique spot that stands out for its concept, but not necessarily somewhere I would go out of my way to return to. read more

I came here expecting a true speakeasy experience, but I have to be honest...if you're looking for that "hidden" mystery, this isn't quite it. Most speakeasies I've been to require a password or are camouflaged behind a bookshelf or an ice cream shop. This one is literally just hidden by a curtain near the bathrooms. If you want to be a real speakeasy, you've got to put in more effort! Even a fake "Employees Only" bathroom door or a bookshelf would have been more creative than a curtain. It felt a little low-effort on the mystery side. Despite the lack of a cool entrance, the inside is actually pretty nice: With there Self-Serve Tap Bar. This was the highlight. The self-serve tech is a cool concept and fun to use. Atmosphere wise the room looks great, it's dark with cool blue lighting that sets a nice mood. There's a good amount of seating, so you aren't cramped. They offer an Indian fusion menu which is a unique twist for a lounge like this. It's a cool spot to hang out and pour your own drinks, but don't go in expecting a "hidden gem" experience. It's more of a lounge with a curtain than a true speakeasy. read more

I love my experience here! Service was phenomenal and everything was great. Parking as usual in the area is a bit harder to find so I recommend going early to make sure you can get there on time if you're meeting with someone. I absolutely love to speak easy room. I think it's one of the best parts there. Overall, really enjoyed it had so much fun there love trying all the different beers that they have to offer. For food everything was absolutely delicious. So fun! Did you know the East Bay has a speakeasy and it lives within the Tap In Lounge? Such a fun little escape (I won't post a video because then I mean, what would make it secret then?) What's also equally as fun, is Tap In Lounge has a cool happy hour with delicious snacks and shareables that makes a trip here worth a cheers. I think the food is from a pop up inspired by or from East Bay Spice Company, and it's delish. We ordered happy hour margs (gorgeous presentation and equally as refreshing), the tikka masala flatbread with chicken kebab & tikka masala sauce, samosas, and tumeric buttermilk fried popcorn chicken with tikka sauce. Quite the spread! The tikka sauce, oh man! Could bottle it up and sell it..I enjoyed everything ~ crunchy and juicy small popcorn chicken bites, the flatbread (you can add other proteins) was unique but oh so flavorful, hearty samosas, and other menu offerings that are worthy of a second visit. Spot is aesthetically dimly lit, but not in vibes. Friendly and upbeat staff, I'm sure quite the party on the weekends. Family and I were in town for graduation on a Sunday night and we found ourselves here around 10:30 pm ish. Drinks and food were good and creative, however the service was super slow -ended up prob taking 2 hours total to get all of our stuff. Left disappointed. Just for the heck of it, I left a voicemail with the management a few days later and Malik called back that same evening. We talked about the scenario that night and he was very honest about it and I was super impressed with his professionalism. 4 stars for the place + 1 star for Malik. read more

Love this lounge!! There's a speakeasy beer tap in the back too but preferred to be out in the main area. Drinks are so unique and delicious! They are all school themed and the menu is an iconic composition book you'd use for school. Vibes were vibey and music wasn't overly loud. Great spot to just chat and lounge with friends! Didn't get to order the food but they have a large selection! They seem to be partnered with East Bay Spice so a lot of options are from there. Food smelled amazing and you could see them grilling meat next to the bar. Only downside is service feels lacking. They don't frequently check up on you and you have to flag them down multiple times. They also didn't seem the most friendly, though nothing rude, but that was just a bummer. Dark and cavernous, yet a cool vibe with an amazing soundtrack. I didn't come in here for the food, but I came for the drinks. I like this spot because I could pour my own ciders, taste them and so on. My husband was getting a beer and I chose to join him. I appreciated the ability to do so. We didn't get food because we were going out to dinner and I don't think that they had a lot of gluten free finds. But they had plenty of ciders. The only thing is that I had to pour into a clean, empty glass but that's not what I would call suffering. There was a guy behind the counter who let me in the back where I could get my drink. I got a drink as was satisfied. I'd come here for a quick drink, but as for a mealtime, this would not be my spot. read more

The tap seems like a fun experience until you realize that at .70 cents an ounce plus tax and tip you pay close to $13 for a glass of beer that you pour yourself. Was looking for a place to chill before a show at the UC Theater and found this spot that was about a 5 minute walk from the venue! Wasn't expecting much, but was happily surprised once inside! Staff is friendly and lots of seating around Friday 8pm. It was giving speakeasy vibes with the back door that leads to the bathroom and self serve taproom! House cocktails were great, but I was blown away by the Tikka Masala fries - sooo saucy and good!! If I lived closer, I would come here just to order these fries for takeout haha read more

FOOD: I ordered the chicken tikka sizzler as part of the indian fusion portion of the menu for $24. The chicken which was shockingly dry, and under seasoned as well. I was especially disappointed since the waiter recommended the dish as they most popular and I was very disappointed. The seasoning was not particularly standout either, and the dish tasted like a worse version of normal chicken tikka masala. I ordered the green nemesis as a cocktail for $16, which was just OK. There are too many flavors in the drink and I felt like none of them really worked together. SERVICE: Waiter was very nice and accommodating for our large group of seven. AMBIANCE: Not terrible, gives more of a modern classy vibe. The concept of beer on tap is interesting but it is not suitable for large groups. They also only have one bathroom so you're in for a wait if you need to go. My new favorite beer place! My friends and I had sometime to kill before dinner so we went to the self pour area/speakeasy in the back. They provide you with a chilled beer mug and a card. They have a wall of at least 20 different taps with card slots on top. You put your card in the slot of your choice and pour your own beer. The great thing is they charge by the ounce, so you can have as much or as little as you want. I opted to have just a few ounces of various beers, my own little flight of sorts. I live that I got to try a bunch of beers without getting overly full or too tipsy. They also have mostly local and craft beer, including sours, cider, and hard kombucha. Amazing! We immediately knew that we would be returning soon. Great place, fun experience, and cool vibes. read more

I had the best drink here that I've ever had. It was on their signature drink menu and it was pretty new. I can't remember the name of it, but it had blackberry and heavy cream and rum. We went to tap in for their self serve taps. It's a cute speakeasy concealed as a fridge of beer. They have a variety of beer and kombucha on tap. They also have cocktails but it wasn't available when we were there. I would come back if there are cocktails since I am not a big fan of beer. I've met really cool people here and made friends with some of them. Cal grad students come here late at night after working in a lab or for a professor all day. And my cool friend Christine works here too. Matt, Rohan, Will, Eddie, Trevor, and Jamari hold down the fort with style, and swagger too. The only kitchen that stays open until 1:30am in Berkeley besides friggin Top Dog in the "meat market' district with all the drunk freshmen. Plus they have a speakeasy in the back that you can surrender your credit/debit card for a pass to go back there and pull your own pours from like 25 crazy weird draught beer, wine and kombucha taps with stuff you can't get out front. I come here at least two or three times a week, usually after midnight. Love this place, and the food is great, especially the wings or chicken tikka masala -- and it's darkly lit as you can see and a great place to see that chick you saw last time you were here or hang out with her again! Great date place. And the Cal girlies like to come here and some of them get all fancy and chill and get real drunk. Great vibes - I highly recommend it. We walked in and the bartender was super casual and said that have cocktails and food and beer. Ok, normal. Major major major Props to Tap That Booty Lounge. Only been there 2-3 times in March 2025 looking to go to possibly go to UC-Berkley. Just chill with a younger hippie Dippie vibe. Went there to cook down after getting a bogus $58 parking ticket near the Berkeley campus in March 2025. Vibe is vibalicious even though I'm old AF over 50 Cent. Did not get any creepy guy old hate. Played pool, drank beer, had fun. What more do you want? Used a coaster from Tap Tap In to ward off Spying Eyes putting the coaster on the glass like a bunch of naughty BERKLEY coeds. Props. If you're up for an adventure definitely recommend Umar's specialty cocktails over the ones on the menu! The self-serve tap was fun and the selection was pretty good! You pay in the front & they give you a blank card so that you can access the drinks in the back. They keep your ID & credit card until the end when you decide to close your tab. There are seats and tables in the front, and couch + small chair seating in the back. There was only 4 of us so we didn't have trouble finding a spot. The biggest downside was that we did feel like we had to wait a very long time just to get the card & to close as well. read more
