As someone who lives on the Peninsula, I don't mind making the trip to Berkeley just for this spot. Whenever my group can't decide where to go, I always suggest this bar, and it's always worth it. I've recommended it to my coworkers a few times, and while it's a bit of a trek from the office (with unpredictable traffic), it's consistently a good choice. Greg at the door, the servers, and the bartenders, Jack and his team, go out of their way to make you feel welcome and match your vibe. The drinks are fantastic (special shoutout to the time I asked if they can make a passion fruit Pisco Sour it was amazing). Their beers on tap are just as solid. The food is pretty good too. I mostly visited on Thursdays, usually after a nearby salsa night, and the atmosphere was always great. I really miss coming here more often and hope to visit again soon! read more

I saw the "Bar" sign from the street and walked in. I saw the "self serve tap" sign above a bank of fridges with beer. I was confused because I didn't see any beers on tap. I asked the bartender if I just had the choice of picking a can of beer from the fridge. He confirmed I could. Weird. Hardly a self serve tap, I thought. I really wanted to like this place but the tall brother working the bar wasn't the friendliest person around. First time here... I wanted to feel welcome... not sure why he seemed to be so off on people. If you can't smile and greet people properly... or at least be warm, then what are you doing here? Cool idea. Secret little tap room in the back that is poorly lit. I had one little sip of a stout and a full beer of an absolutely horrible ale (surprising from field works brew) that tasted like dish water. I got the Famous Chicken Tikka Masala Pizza delivered via Grubhub. The pizza was pretty good on the chicken tikka masala flavor and the chicken tasted great. As far as my knowledge this is the only locally owned restaurant serving Indian pizza. My only I guess suggestion is the option to add different vegetables. read more

Such an underrated place! Finding true NY style pizza in this area is really hard but this place hits pretty close to the spot. Usually get the tikka masala sauce pizza with ricotta which is really good. Their samosas are also decent. Won't be back. They have really great beer selections and ciders in the tap room in the back. Loved the PB stout.... Ambiance was cute music was right. The issue here is that my gf's card info was taken after using here. She doesn't use this specific card often but this particular night she did, and not even 24 hours later it had fraudulent charges for which could only be explained from using her card that ONE time in weeks (prolly even more) at this place that night... just be careful. The way they do it is they take your card to "hold" before you go in the back to try the selections. When you're done they return your card after payout. In my humble, you don't need to hold my card, you can swipe it and leave the ticket open... so yea, shady business. But try it out, it's definitely an experience lol. Just watch your card! read more

Stopped here because we were looking for a bar and there was a neon sign with an arrow that said "bar." We were greeted warmly, and after a look at the menu, we ordered a couple of original cocktails. Both were delicious. I got a slice of tikka masala pizza and some tikka masala fries, and my wife ordered chicken korma. I don't say this lightly: all of our food was outstanding. I'm sure the self-serve tap room is cool -- I've seen videos and it looks like a lot of fun. If I were more into beer, it would be one of the coolest features of the place. But I didn't even check it out. I just can't speak highly enough of the food. The crust on the pizza was as good as you could ask for, cooked from scratch right before my eyes in a superheated oven. The chicken in the korma was unbelievably tender. The fries kept their integrity even under a generous ladleful of delicious sauce. Next time we're in the area, hopefully sooner rather than later, we will make a special trip to eat here, and I'll be thinking about it in the meantime. Don't sleep on this place. read more

Maybe it's the classism... maybe it was the way i was dressed... maybe i'm not the crowd this bar is for... I wouldn't use or say the word racist, that'd be stupid... the young man that spoke to me was an African (heard his accent an everything) from Oakland(or so He says) that went to high school in Alameda... Maybe this is more about me being turned off by the... the... way He spoke, what He said... i mean nothing terribly wrong, but... but... it's like He played the stereotype of Africans not liking Black Americans. You know slightly dismissive, sharing faulty information... jus not as welcoming. It's like i wasn't the correct class color or maybe wasn't domesticated enough for his liking. That's jus me. I mean the bar, the "fung-sway"(atmosphere)/lighting... the look... great magnificent... it's like you wanna go there... but the subtle classism & prejudice in Berkeley... seemingly... shows itself here like almost anywhere else in Berkeley. First, the cocktail was really good but the service was was horrible from the bartender. My friend and I showed up and sat down at bar. The bartender slid the cocktail menu in a rude manner. We sat down and literally a few seconds later he asked what he wanted, it hasn't been a minute, and I didn't know because I didn't even get a chance to look at menu and was deciding but he walked away and said "whatever." That was rude, No friendly demeanor, next my friend complimented his drink and he shrugged and walked away. Every customer and co-worker that interacted with him, he was rude and aggressive. He killed the vibe. Next, there was a lady waiting to pick up cigars and he wouldn't attend to her for ten minutes. The bar wasn't busy. He just stood their all mad. He just looked angry.
