Ok, I see you Oakland! Love all of the new-ish spots that are coming up in the Town, with Lucy Blue being one of them. Located right next to the Fox, Lucy Blue is an awesome vibe. The space has transformed to something beautiful, such a vibrant atmosphere. The staff were so kind, and the patrons seemed happy to be there. A cool spot to kick it with a cocktail, grab some pre-dinner snacks or a full meal, and looks like there's a private event space upstairs. We ordered drinks only, but we were eyeing the catfish bao buns, black-eyed pea hummus, and the warm collard dip for our next trip. Also the oxtail arancini sounds delish too. The day we came in there was a Kentucky Derby Party with lotsa fun hats and fits. Checking their event calendar, looks like they have music on specific nights too. We got there around 8:30 PM on a Thursday night and there was still plenty of seating. We wanted to see what the upstairs area was like, but for some reason, we weren't allowed upstairs, so opted for some booth seating in the back. We had some cocktails and shared the Warm Caramel Rice Krispy Treat. I didn't expect much, but the rice krispy treat was actually quite good: tasted like it was homemade. The cocktails were innovative, varied, and well-balanced. One of my friends got one of the spicy drinks and the spice level was just right and not too overpowering. Service was great, but the glasses they gave us initially looked like they had lip marks on them. We asked them to replace it and they did. We ducked into Lucy Blue last Thursday after the fabulous Yelp Party at STAK. We weren't the only ones, we saw other Yelpers there for some after-partying. Sexy, dimly-lit, upscale bar/lounge. It was great to see there was a gentleman at the door to prevent any shenanigans. We were pretty full from the Yelp event, so we didn't try any food this time, but we looked through the menu, which has a good number of options. I had a White Cosmo, RB had an Espresso Martini, and we had some sparkles. The drinks were all good. Our server was lovely, but it does seem they could hire more help, this is a happening place. They don't take reservations, which makes planning your night tricky unless this is your first stop. Once people get a table, they tend to stay for hours, so your chances of snagging one after 9 p.m. are pretty slim. The interior is beautiful, and they do offer a small bites menu. The crowd definitely skews older mostly late 30s to 60s. The dress code also isn't nearly as strict as it's made out to be; I saw plenty of ripped jeans and baseball hats. This Bar and restaurant was our last leg of the Hennessy Bar Crawl that supports black joy in oakland. I really enjoyed the aesthetic of the restaurant as it really had an elevated feel. I was surprised to see that there were two levels to the restaurant. Not only could you enjoy good meals but there was a section that was on the second floor closed off for our personal event. The bar space was very clean and cool. The music was not too loud and the drinks were mixed to perfection. I really enjoyed some of the food plating. That night we were able to have their white cheddar beef sliders along with seasoned chicken wings that could be dipped in a jerk sauce or ranch. I thought the flavor profile was amazing and I definitely can't wait to go back as I hear they have a fantastic Jazz night on sundays. We came on a Friday night around 8:30. It wasn't too crowded and we snagged a corner table next to the dj booth. It got very crowded soon after. The drinks were phenomenal. The Temescal-ada was my favorite. The Boozy Affogato was also incredible. My friend really enjoyed the Margarita, and she has had margaritas all over the Bay. All of the food was good, but the best was the Elote Hushpuppies (perfect texture, and delicious flavor), the Catfish Bao Buns (lightly fried, seasoned well, delicious sauce, and perfect amount of heat), and the truffle deviled eggs (piled high, truffle is good but not over-powering, smoked trout roe is the perfect touch). The place has several rooms including upstairs and groin level. The Warriors were about to play and they had TVS above the bar. Once seated the server immediately immersed us into the service and setup! I started with water and a Kenyan Lager. My wife had a sweet and savory drink that she enjoyed as well! I made plans with a couple of girlfriends for dinner since we've been talking about it for a few months now and this was the perfect spot. I walked in and I couldn't even talk to the hostess that well because I was so excited about the decor of the place. It was just my vibe with the moody blues and the dark floral and the jungle theme. Beautiful people everywhere and positive vibes all around. I ordered a white Cosmo because vodka. That drink was so perfect and refreshing! For food, we ordered warm collard greens dip that came with seasoned tortilla chips. We ordered the short ribs, which was melt in your mouth good with a perfect ratio of fat and meat. The catfish bao buns were fucking amazing. The catfish was perfect perfectly fried with the pickled veggies and the really soft ass buns. I literally moaned when I took a bite. That was the feeling when we walked in here after a Yelp event around the corner. A few other Yelp attendees also were here. We found a table right away and were able to order pretty quickly. Wasn't to busy when we got in but packed out very quickly. We made it in before security was posted at the door. The food menu looked great but we were stuffed from the Yelp event so just had drinks. Getting susequent drink orders took a little longer than initially. Maybe as the night gets busier bring on more staff. The vibe was good and the crowd behaving. Their cocktail menu is tropical and balanced, and I loved all the drinks I had and can't wait to go to try the rest. We had the wasabi deviled eggs, oxtail arancini and lamb chops. Though a bit pricey, the lamb chops were cooked to perfection. The deviled eggs with wasabi was a delicious twist to a classic bar bite and the arancinis were moist with a good bit of oxtail inside. Since I love tropical cocktails, this menu was right up my alley. I don't recall the names but I got a pisco cocktail and then a matcha gin cocktail which were both amazing. My boyfriend doesn't love the tropical drinks as much so they were happy to make him a classic drink off the menu which he really enjoyed as well. Lucy Blue should now be Oakland's premier location for an elevated social experience. The service was warm and welcoming from the security to the service team, everyone was attentive and had a great demeanor. The reimagined space blew me away. What was formerly Duende is now this lovely marriage of airy, open, free flowing space that allows for folks to sit, stand, or wander the two story space with a cocktail in hand. They mastered the dark and romantic design with high ceilings complimented by tasteful light fixtures to illuminate the space and lush greenery, and textile for every architect/interior designers dream. We were glad to snag a seat at the bar but there was plenty of seating or standing options available. The cocktails were made with fresh fruit right before our eyes. You can taste the difference! We ordered fries (fresh, light, crispy, well seasoned) but all of the small bites seemed like delicious options. We arrived on the earlier side but it began to fill up quite a bit as we approached 10pm. There was an entire second floor that we did not get to explore. We found parking nearby at the Hot Boys food spot and walked over. It was a beautiful night in Oakland. We were enjoying the tree and having a great time, but then the owner came over and instead of her, asking us to be quiet down or saying anything in a professional manner, she came over & said "y'all are Hella loud. With light and textures in the right places. There was a private event going on in their upstairs space. I didn't realize how spacious the whole place was until I got up to use the restroom. My friend and I shared two orders of fries. Crispy on the outside. Seasoned. No notes. We got one order, loved them, so got another. I got the catfish bao. I loved it but wish there had been one more on the plate. She ordered the lamb and loved it. And she's a lamb connoisseur. I got the international boulevardier and loved it.
