Then onto their dinner menu of Moo Dang dry noodles and ginger sole before finishing off with one of their fun holiday drinks for dessert, the peppermint eggnog for just $8.50. Stopped by Little Plearn for lunch since it's just a block down the street from me. We ordered the duck over rice and the mild pumpkin curry lunch special. The duck over rice was probably a 2/5 for me, and I definitely would not order it again. At first, I thought it was decent because my first bite was mostly sauce and rice, but once I tried the duck, it fell short. The skin was more slimy than flavorful, and the meat itself had a noticeable funk to it that made it seem lower quality. Luckily, the pumpkin curry saved the meal. I really enjoyed the flavor, and it was easily the better dish (still would rate it a 3/5 though). If you're like me, I'd skip the lunch special and just order the curry as a regular plate since I did not care much for the side salad or vegetarian spring roll. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to come back since there are so many Thai restaurants to try in Berkeley, but Little Plearn is definitely a convenient option near campus, especially for students looking for a quick lunch. read more

(Side note: not exactly a walkable preferred distance). They also had a happy hour menu that was still going and we definitely took advantage of the decent pricing. 1. Happy hour wings: these were not that exciting unfortunately. I really wanted to like them but it ended up being the last thing I ate. Sauce was not all that. It was a sweet and sour chili sauce cooked down with basil for flavor. It just wasn't for me. 2. Bowl of Tom Kha: this was my favorite of all things we tried and a perfect portion for one person. However we did share this bowl knowing we over ordered. Chicken was soft, mushroom the perfect texture. The soup was delicious. 3. Happy Hour: chicken satay. Chicken was slightly dry but it didn't ruin it for me. Also easy to eat off the stick. Peanut sauce was not over powering and a good balance of flavor. The pickled veggies that come on the side had the perfect crunch. 4. Moo Dang Dry Noodle: the meat was soft and very flavorful. I would recommend fully mixing everything before digging in. We stopped here for a quick dinner after walking through downtown Berkeley. We got there around 5pm, so the restaurant was still empty since it just opened. By the time we finished, there were still some tables open but it definitely started to fill up by 6pm. We got the yam fries to start, and shared both the beef pad see ew and crab fried rice. The yam fries were super crispy, but also so light and tasty. Loved them! The beef pad see ew was cooked perfectly and rivaled some of the better pad see ew's I've had. The crab fried rice, however, was just decent. I wasn't a huge fan of the warm rice and cold crab combo. I think this would be a huge hit if it was served in a hot clay pot instead to let the bottom get nice and crispy. Just my personal preference though. We ordered chicken wings as appetizers, I ordered Pad See Eew and my wife ordered the dry glass noodles with various meats and tofu (I forgot the name). The wings should have came out 1st.. but that was not the case. My food came out 1st without my wife's. The chicken wings came out about 5 to 7 miss later and then my wife's food came out.. about 2 mins after the wings. While we both enjoyed our entrees, the wings were undercooked. Like they seemed done, but you could tell and taste that they needed to have fried a bit longer. One of them had a little redness on the bone. Nonetheless, we ate them. Our drinks were so delicious. She had the green Christmas one and I had the blue Christmas one. We put Soju (Korean alcohol) in them both. I got mine w/o whipped cream because I'm lactose intolerant (They were fine with leaving it off)...BUT, I did have her bring me sprinkles to add because I love sprinkles. So far, the night was actually Purdue decent minus those lil hiccups. However, when the waitress came over to check on us and asked us if we needed boxes for the leftovers, we said we did.. but I still had half a drink left. Sure then brought the boxes and check. I did not understand why because I was actually going to order more drinks. However, at that point, I felt like we were being rushed to get up from our table. I told her that I was not ready for the check and she was adamant about me placing it on my section of the seating. I had to tell her again.. that we did not ask for the check and that we were not ready to leave yet. She walked away and then less than 5 mins from when she came.. someone else brought the bill. I had to day the same thing to him to.. that we were not ready for the bill. I did not like that at all. No one else around us was provided the bill while so having food/drinks on front of them. I watched the movements, so why did this happen to us? No one should be rushed to get up while still enjoying their meal and/or drinks. Although this did not happen to us, I am still putting it into my review due to witnessing it. The party next to us found a small crystal that looked exactly like glass in their noodle dish. One of them actually had it in his mouth due to taking a bite of his food. He stated that it was hard and definitely not food. He reported it to the same waitress who simply said " Oh sorry, do you want me to get you a new plate of food". She did not ask him if he was alright nor did she bring any manager over too talk matters over with them. They agreed to a new plate, but after we all discussed what just happened, they decided to get the plate of food taken off the bill. Even when they attempted to do that, they were met with the food is already cooking.. so they had to push a little bit to be heard. She took it off of the bill. I disliked how that situation was met. Lack of full apology, no managerial apology nor followup, no automatically insisting to clear it from the bill without being asked by the customer and the fact that they do expected the customer to pay any bill after going through possibly eating glass. The service was bustling, but they still were able to take our orders and get it out hot and fresh. I ordered the Panang Nua, and the heat had kick to it without sacrificing taste. We happened to come across this Thai restaurant while walking in the area. There is limited seating inside and the walls are adorned with Thai artwork and decor. Once you walk inside, the staff greets you warmly and you are seated right away. We came at almost 5pm so it was mostly empty aside from a couple others. We decided to share a couple dishes - the fried tofu and the Moo Dang dry noodle. First, the fried tofu is nothing like I've tried before as it is firmer with a crispy outer texture. It is served with a couple dipping sauces that provide a sweet and tangy element which is pretty addicting! Now, the Moo Dang dry noodle was delicious. The pork was so tender and juicy, and tasted both slightly sweet and hearty. The noodles were cooked perfectly and still had a nice chew to it. It soaked up the tangy sauce nicely. This place has gone downhill. First, the food isn't as good as it was pre-pandemic. Second, they use plastic takeout containers, in violation of Berkeley law. Third, even though I specifically requested "no utensils: no fork, spoon, knife," they still threw 'em in the bag. And 4th, it took them 25 minutes to prepare a 10-min order, even though I requested 2 standard items for takeout in-person when the restaurant was half-empty. It's a little sleazy that restaurants ask for a tip BEFORE you find out all these things. Take-out tip should be earned, and given AFTER the food comes. Caveat emptor. The interior was comfortable albeit a bit cramped with nice art on the walls. Service: 4/5 nothing really interesting to report for service Drinks: 4/5 the drinks were were very refreshing be mindful they only have a wine and beer license so while they do have "cocktails" they are all Champaign based Food: 4/5 a nice selection of vegetarian options on the menu. The green chili was purportedly the spiciest thing on the menu but it was not particularly hot. The roti was decent but it felt like it could've been slapped more. I came here for the holiday festive decorations. I got an ad from Instagram and was so excited to come. The food came out fast and it tasted good. I've had better but I can't complain. Some things that were different is they put my rice in my curry bowl instead of on the side how most restaurants do it. I wasn't sure how I felt about that. Another thing is there are literal strips of ginger that was in my curry. I don't mind ginger but that's definitely a hefty amount of ginger for one dish. However the service was NOT good. Which is fine, but they did not even check on us at all so they never refilled our waters. We were sitting there for a while after we were done eating and no one asked us for the bill nor any boxes. Mind you we were there for almost 2hrs. We flagged a waitress down and she asked "Do you guys need something?" COMICAL! We haven't touched our plate in 20 minutes and the place closes in 20 minutes....obviously some boxes and the check ? She comes back with boxes no bag. We walk by this place all the time on our way to one of the restaurants further down Shattuck headed to University. We went out for dinner last night and were very sad to see that our favorite place, Fish & Bird, closed permanently so we were trying to find a new spot for dinner. We debated going in since besides two tables it was largely empty, but after seeing three DoorDash drivers come inside to pick up deliveries on after the other and catching a glimpse of the dishes on another guest's table, we decided to check it out. My husband ordered the pumpkin curry with chicken and rice. The level of spice was perfect, the vegetables were fresh with the perfect texture and the chicken was tender and flavorful. In his word, "I was so excited to finish it!" He also tried two of the Thai beers on the menu and liked them as well. I ordered a young coconut and the Tom Kha soup (small size) with prawns and tofu. The young coconut was so fresh and sweet. The Tom Kha was my favorite (I love soup!!) and had a wonderful salty, slightly sour and creamy flavor. All the ingredients inside were fresh and the tofu absorbed the delicious broth perfectly. I was glad I finished the bowl but in hindsight would have loved to take home leftovers so I would order the bigger bowl next time. The service was friendly and attentive, which was great because soon after we sat down, multiple tables filled up quickly! This place deserves 5 stars in my opinion and I can't wait to come back. Greeted warmly upon entering their cute valentines decorated restaurant. The waitress was super nice and sweet. The food was good but nothing to rave about. They have a small valentines seasonal sweets and drinks. It is pretty pricey compared to other Thai places, they charge extra for certain things that I thought were kind of crazy like peanut sauce for fresh rolls. But overall decent experience. read more
