This hidden gem is delicious! What a fabulous find! We were there for an early dinner and found street parking relatively easily and seated quickly. Inside was so charming in nicely decorated. Service was fast and friendly. Our server was patient as we were a little indecisive and our group had a few food allergies. Food was delicious! We had a few folks from out of town, but we all agreed - hands down the best Thai egg rolls we've ever had! Crispy, filled with flavor and just a little hint of spice, not spicy at all, just perfect pepper? Our pad see ew wasn't greasy and meat was fresh and delicious, not fatty at all. Thai ice teas were refreshing, NOT fully iced or too sweet, like you sometimes get - great balance. Red chicken curry was perfect and so was soup and fried rice - all cooked as requested! Order by doordash during their happy hour for cheaper prices. The picture of the pad thai on doordash vs what I got in person didn't really match, but that's okay. I also ordered the spicy basil chicken stir fry. Both were okay, nothing to rave about. I do love the spice on the basil chicken it was perfect. But for the spicy lovers out there you may want to ask for some chili oil to make it more spicer as its not as spicy as i thought it would be. But still good! This restaurant has been on my want to go list, so I was excited to try it out! We ordered the Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles) and the Gang Khew-Wan (Green Curry). The Pad Kee Mao was tasty, the flavor leaned slightly toward to a sweeter, tomato flavor side, but it was still enjoyable. The Green curry came with generous portion and was really flavorful. I've driven past this restaurant many times and finally decided to stop in and give it a try. First impressions were good. The restaurant has a cute ambiance with all of the string lighting and fun music playing. My only complaint would be how cold it was in the restaurant. It felt like the AC was on, on a cold December night. My partner joked and said "next time we're taking the food to go" lol. Our server was a sweet woman who joked with us because we were indecisive about where we wanted to sit and asked too many questions lol. We really enjoyed her. We ordered the yellow curry roti and two pad Thai, one shrimp and one beef. I really liked the yellow curry but wasn't the biggest fan of how thin and crispy the roti was. It was cut up like tiny tortilla chips. Still very good though, just not quite what I expected. The pad Thai was definitely the star. This is a nice calm spot with plenty of street parking on a Sunday afternoon. I ordered a red curry with beef over rice and it was a bit underwhelming amount wise, but packs a punchful of flavor. The amount of good you get is slightly more than a mini meal, good for people with low appetites or already had something to eat beforehand. Service was attentive and easy to catch. The customer to waiter ratio wasn't too bad and I was able to wave the waiter down within a few seconds for the check. I love that Chai Thai has some Lao menu item like the papaya salad with fermented fish and salted crab. My other go to is the spicy catfish. I will say that their portion is very inconsistent. Wow! I eat a lot of Thai and this just made it into the #1 spot. We got pad thai with shrimp. Probably the best I've ever had. Noodles tasted home made and had just the right amount of sticky. Shrimp was perfectly cooked and fresh. Got the pork rolls. Yummmmm! Perfect crispiness. We ordered through caviar and I can't believe how hot it was up arrival (I live on lake merritt). 2 stars because the food (that they had available) was good, but the service (particularly from our waitress) was very poor. Bad Service from waitress: 1) not telling us that certain dishes "ran out" until 10+ minutes after our other entrees came out, but they could make them if we waited another 20 min, 2) after waiting 20 min, she delivered the alternate dishes instead of what we ordered and didn't apologize, 3) forgot our drink order entirely at the beginning and we had to ask another waiter. The fact that the kitchen "ran out" of certain dishes truly sounded like they just didn't feel like making the food (they "ran out" of fried rice, but gave us plain white rice. Couldn't they just make fried rice?). And taking 10-20+ min to inform us or to deliver drinks is extremely poor service. We liked the pad Thai and noodle dishes and the papaya salad. This is an A+ for the staff there. I made an order through DoorDash but I was so limited by what instructions I could put on the order. I had to call in and ask to substitute white rice side orders for sticky rice and to put less chicken in the kao poon. A friend recommended this restaurant and we finally had a chance to try it. My husband and I went to squeeze in a date night into our kid chauffering duties. We've been to many Thai restaurants in the area, and Chai Thai was exceptional. They had a good knowledge of gluten free items which is important for me to give it a good review. Delicious Lao-Thai food with such huge portions!! I got the chai Thai fried rice with fried chicken (in hindsight I should've gotten the bone in bbq chicken - so next time!) and it was great along the lychee Thai tea! Not pictured, but other members of my party got the pad Thai, crab noodles, and the curry noodles and everyone raved about it! The portions were so big we all had leftovers that was the size of the take out container! I ended up ordering to go as well including - Laos crispy rice, Larb salad, and shrimp papaya salad and loved it all! Overall customer service was good and they do check for vaccinations at the door (thank you!!). Only complaint is the location as there was no parking anywhere near the restaurant when we arrived and so we had to park a few blocks down the street and walk over in the rain. Interior is beautiful. Best looking thai restaurant I've been to. Service is quick and friendly. Doesn't fare well when it comes to food. Tom kha soup - great flavor, too salty. Pad kee mao - flavor was ok, it didn't have the much-needed wok-hei. But the problem is, it was too oily. Oil was dripping on the plate and spoons. Pad thai - again, decent flavor, but very very oily. Noodles should be coated in the sauce, not in oil. There should be more protein/veggies in the noodles dishes. There were only 4 pieces of tofu and a few carrots. I looked closely at other review photos and the dishes look non-oily in some photos. I guess it's a hit or miss then. read more

Happened upon this place in DoorDash a few days ago. I got pad kee mao, which I've never had before, some Lao papaya salad, cucumber salad and sticky rice. The pad kee mao was delicious! Very flavorful, a good amount of spice and it wasn't dry at all. You know sometimes that's an issue with the noodle plates. The papaya was very good, I got medium...should've gotten spicy but it was very good. Not too salty, fishy or sweet. The cucumber salad tasted fresh and was a nice add of texture and freshness to the meal. The sticky rice was typical. It did the job. And I added my own fried chicken to my plate to top things off. I have since returned and gotten the Lao papaya salad in spicy....it was indeed spicy, but not over the top. It wasn't ALL chili seeds like some places when you say spicy. Just enough to burn a bit and allow sweat beads to form on the tip of your nose. Definitely recommend. I'd like to go try dine in soon. read more

Called in to make an order for pick up and the process was easy. Upon arriving there is no parking/very very limited street parking right in front so be aware of that if you do come. Luckily we came on a Tuesday evening to just pick up so we got lucky. Items we ordered: - Crispy Shrimp & Calamari: This was very tasty and savory! Even for pick up the items were still very crispy. This was a great starter. - Panang Curry w/ crispy duck: This was so delicious!! The curry of course had a nice touch of heat, but not overbearing at all, and of course nutty and sweet from the coconut base. I love how they put the crispy duck on the side/in a separate container to keep the duck crispy which we appreciated. This dish also came with a box of rice as well. -Pad See Ew w/ Beef: This was also a great choice. The noodles had a great texture and flavor and the meat was tender as well. - BBQ Pork: This was so yummy! The meat was very tender and flavorful! Overall, this was a hit, especially for being take-out too! We ended up having leftovers which is great because when we first picked up our order it didn't look like a lot of food but it was filling. The food was decent but nothing special. I got fried calamari as an appetizer but it was very mediocre at best. The best part about it was the sauce. The breading was falling off and just didn't have much flavor. I got the yellow curry with chicken and it was exactly what I wanted when I ordered it. My friend got the pineapple fried rice, which again, was exactly what you would expect, but nothing special.
