I really enjoyed this restaurant and went out here with a couple associates after the grand opening of a oholone park. Definitely fixed the soup craving that I was having. Pho Tasty delivers on a completely different vibe for a pho restaurant. You walk in to dimmed lights, stylish pendant lights hanging over some of the tables and some chill jazz playing in the background. There are large screens playing sports in the background too. I don't know if it's always switched on to women's sports but all screens were tuned in to women's sports today! While we enjoyed our visit, sadly the food was lackluster. The bf ordered filet mignon & brisket pho (4/10), I had the tofu chay pho (7/10). My bf said his pho was extremely salty and lacking in overall flavor. He's usually really easygoing and loves pho from pretty much anywhere but this was so bad he complained about how salty it was the rest of the evening. The menu had 3 vegan options which was awesome. I went with tofu chay pho and found it to be okay. The soup was pretty standard and it came with a generous amount of freshly fried tofu. I don't know if this was intentionally done for texture, but the tofu had been previously frozen, rendering it spongey and chewy. I typically don't see this preparation of tofu for pho, so I'm not sure what to make of it. You usually do that to tofu if you're going to stew it, not to toss in a clear broth. It was a bit tough and chewy for my preference, but to their credit the tofu was fried nicely and wasn't super oily. I was bummed it only came with tofu as I thought "chay" meant there would be veggies but maybe it only meant "vegetarian" in this context. They did not hold back on the tofu though. The portion was so generous, I had to bring it home. I have to point out that their rice noodle is really good (despite both of our lackluster soups). I eat slow and before I know it, the noodles are mushy and breaking. (My fault, not the noodles'). Not these noodles tho! They held up and let me take my time. If you're looking for pho that gets the job done, Pho Tasty isn't a bad option. The service was nice, the ambiance is good and they're open until 10pm. read more

Came here for a weekday lunch. There is quite a juxtaposition between the gruff but attentive server and the sleek modern appearance - faux marble tables and very comfortable upholstered seating, between the mounted televisions and the evening jazz playing. But somehow it works. The murals depicting Vietnam were a nice touch, too. The seafood pho was delicious, with a choice of egg or rice noodles, and if you order tea, the teapot comes with its own candle warmer. Cute! I enjoyed a hearty nourishing bowl of the Vegetable Pho Chay that came with heaps of veggies in a vegetable broth and added tofu. It was quite alright. Service was very friendly along with being accommodating. There are two screens in the restaurant that were showing sports including a tennis game and the Lakers vs Grizzlies basketball game. I saw LeBron and company against the Grizzlies with Scottie Pippen junior who is a dynamic 23 year old guard who while shorter than his hall of fame father still has serious game. Offerings: Filet Mignon, tofu/vegetables, poultry, seafood, pork, stir fried noodles, charboiled meats, fried rice, pho Bo, pho ga, clay pots, apps, Eats: Bun Rieu (18) -a mix of tofu cubes, vermicelli noodles, ground pork meatballs, cha lau in a tomato & "fresh crab" broth. Didn't taste crab, tasted a lot of shrimp paste. Topped with scallion, cilantro, basil, iceberg lettuce, jalepeno slices, lime squeeze. -blood cubes, pig feet not noticed. The former due to many patrons dislike of it. *tastes similar though missing a few key items. Shrimp paste was the main reason for bun Rieu taste. This location is only a street over from both University and Shattuck, but already sees drastically less foot traffic as it's tightly packed into the concrete jungle. We visited after a trip to the Saturday farmar on Center St. Service was slow, it seems like only one person is working here? AVOCADO CRAB RANGOON: There's very little crab flavor, mostly bland avocado and unseasoned wonton wrapper. The sauce is SO syrupy-sweet, tastes pre-made. CHICKEN RICE PLATE: Too salty, almost hard to eat. Chicken portions are also small for the price. Their fish sauce is extremely briny and acrid, not as sweet or as well-balanced as other spots... I am thoroughly disappointed in my experience at this establishment. I arrived approximately an hour and thirty minutes before closing. The staff member was extremely uncourteous, as he sat us down he repeated to us that they were near closing time. However, their Google hours said otherwise. It came with a very generous amount of Shrimp & Pork Wontons with Sliced BBQ Pork on top with Bok Choy. De-lish!!!!! I also order the Egg Rolls but for $14 for 5 which came out to roughly $2.80 each and I thought it a bit pricey (maybe because I did a delivery order) but they were good! I ordered a small filet mignon and tendon pho. It's interesting how their two sizes are small and XL, but I wasn't too hungry so I opted for the small. The portion was still very generous and I had a hard time finishing it. The noodles were cooked quite well with a decent chew, but I really loved the filet mignon and tendon pieces. They were both so tender and flavorful, and they didn't skimp on the portion either. The broth was quite good as well, so definitely a solid meal.
