I work just down the street at AIMC Acupuncture School, and Noodles Fresh has become a favorite for me and many of the students and staff. It's one of those spots that keeps us nourished during busy clinic and class days. They have a great lunch special and honestly you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I was stuck on the Dan Dan noodles and the Beef Tendon Stew for a while, but the Chen Pi Beef and the scallion pancakes are also standouts. The tea selection is wonderful too. I even brought my parents here when they were visiting from New York, and they still talk about it. That's saying something considering how many Chinese takeout spots there are in NY--this place is another level: fresh, thoughtful, and truly feels gourmet. What also makes this place special is the community feeling. When we hosted our Lunar New Year celebration at the school, they hung our flyer in their window and even came by with a tray of egg rolls for the event. The owner is so sweet, and I love that Blue Moon is on the menu because it's her favorite. The space is open and inviting but still cozy, and the service is always great--intuitive and warm. Even the younger staff I've seen seem genuinely grateful to work there. We're lucky to have such a lovely neighborhood restaurant nearby. read more

Love this place! It's one of my favorite places to eat in the area! The inside is beautifully decorated and makes for a nice atmosphere. It isn't usually loud inside even with multiple parties coming in. It's not too big inside, so larger parties may want to check in before coming by. The service is great! Fast and friendly :) Usually I order and it's ready after 15-20 minutes if it's not too busy. The food is great! I have tried different dishes abe my personal favorites would be the Guilen noodles and the West-Lake Dongpo pork belly rice plate. The portions are pretty big good for 1-2 people. The also have lunch specials, so some menu items are marked with an asterisk for a reduced pricing. It's actually a very good price point for the area even with lunch pricing. Simple, no frills restaurant with plenty of noodle dishes. I did wish they offered more vegetable dishes, but didn't see too many. I got a vegetarian hunan hot and sour soup noodle ($14.95) and had enough for 2 meals. It's not super spicy, and I thought it was reasonably priced. Again, I think if they added a few leafy greens, it would make the experience more enjoyable - at least for me! My partner got the chicken rice plate ($15.95) and he enjoyed the rice more than the chicken. Man ate the whole mountain of rice and this is from someone who doesn't really eat carbs! I stole some pieces of broccoli off his plate (can you tell I really like my greens?). It also came with a pre-packaged side of ginger scallion sauce, which was good, but I thought the packaging was unnecessary and quite wasteful, especially by Berkeley standards. Service was fine. Came here on for a weekday lunch and we were so surprised to find so many nice decorations and very high ceiling in a small unassuming storefront. We were immediate seated. Ordered the xinjiang lamb bowl and yunnan over the bridge to share between two people. Noodles came pretty fast! So homey and nourishing. Great portions, very fast and attentive service. this spot carried me through my sickest times while at school with some of the best taiwan beef noodle soup i've ever had. not only was the broth so rich and the meat SOO tender, but the noodles were chewy, the pickled veggies were delicious, and the portion was just amazing as i usually had the dish over 2-3 meals each time. the price is so reasonable for what you get, and the noodles always come out piping hot and really quick. so reliable in consistently great food and forever grateful for giving me a taste of home while I was away from home. read more

I typically notice this place when I drive or walk by and on today's walk, I decided to go inside because why not. Inside is very spacious with lots of seating. There's tables as well as high chairs and bar seating. It's modern, but not that modern in terms of the decor. Service is quick and friendly and the food arrived in about 10 minutes. I got the Beef Tendon stew and it was delicious. Bowl of plain noodles, topped with tendon and flank, cilantro, pickled vegetables, peanuts, and this fantastic sauce that was slightly sweet and savory that added so much flavor to the dish. Came to Berkeley for an event and needed a place to eat for an early dinner. I was craving Chinese and noodles with soup and Noodles Fresh popped up. It had what I was looking for and had good reviews so my boyfriend and I decided to give it a go. It was early so we were the only ones there, so it was quiet, but we didn't mind. There's the option order through their website/QR code on the table or the waitress. I ordered the Taiwan Beef Noodle Soup and my boyfriend got the Hainan Chicken Rice Plate. We shared a scallion pancake as an appetizer. I'd say the portions are a decent size and will keep you full. My noodle soup was perfect and exactly what I wanted. The Hainan chicken was really good and my boyfriend had to complaints eating the whole thing. The scallion pancake was flaky and had enough filling inside. We visited Noodle Fresh with high expectations. The service was excellent -- friendly and attentive -- and the space is surprisingly large, though it wasn't very crowded when we went. As for the food, it was a bit hit or miss: * BBQ Pork: Unfortunately, this was a bit too tough and lacked flavor. * Vegetarian Goose: Had a good seasoning, but the texture could've been softer -- it felt a little off. * Guilin Beef Noodle Stew: We thought it would be soup-based, but it turned out to be dry noodles with sauce. That said, the sauce had a nice savory-sweet balance. We'd actually give this dish another try. I love their lunch menu, they have quick service and the portions are huge. The lunch and dinner portions can fill 2-3 people. The pricing is good and the dishes are very flavorful. Appetizers: Vegetarian 8" pancake- onion pancake that was very crispy & didn't have the onion aroma to entice me to eat 2 slices, so I wouldn't re-order next time. Chongqing Beef Tendon- my favorite appetizer that I always order bc not only is the chili oil spice infused with a lot of authentic spices, but the tendon pieces were thinly sliced with cucumber added to the bottom. String Bean-very fresh & wok fried to a perfect crisp & flavor to satisfy. Dan Dan Noodle-wheat ramen noodles with mung bean, Bok Choy, ground pork & 2 sides of chili oil(Sichuan Peanut chili oil) that you mix in yourself I guess to add to your own specification. The portion was enough to feed 5 given we had 2 appetizers, a vegetable dish & a Hong Kong BBQ pork bowl. Great flavor & not overly spicy. Hong Kong BBQ Pork Bowl- a large bowl of soupy egg noodles with BBQ pork with a broth that was well made & generous in portion size. The BBQ pork was thinly sliced & wasn't fatty. My absolute favorite go-to place for authentic chinese and a hot bowl of noodle soup. I've been here more times than I can count, alone, small groups, large groups so I've pretty much tried their entire menu and unlike other places where I find the food to be a hit-or-miss, everything here tastes really good! Service is usually pretty quick, but they are sometimes understaffed so when it's super packed food can take a bit longer to come out. We had Hunan, Hainan, and Hong Kong soups all at one table and all excellent! The restaurant had excellent spacing between tables and a good ambient temperature. Defiantly try the dish before adding anything, it's so well prepared and balanced. I did add chili oil toward the end - not to give anything away but the chili oil will add a hearty rich smoke flavor. It's not spicy, just an additional layer of flavor. We ordered 2 vegetarian noodle dishes - the Shanghai Scallion and the Vegetarian Stir Fry. Portions are huge, but both of the dishes lacked an oomph in the flavor. They don't have so many vegetables and it is very noodle forward but if the sauce was full of flavor, I wouldn't have minded. Even with the extra sauce on the Shanghai Scallion, the flavor just didn't really do it for me. I had to add soy sauce and sriracha and I shouldn't have to add sauces to fix my food. Overall, would probably not go back because I've had way better noodles elsewhere. I've only ever gotten food here for delivery, so on a really rainy and windy day where I had to be out, finally trying this place dine-in seemed like a good idea. I came in during lunch hours, so I got the Shanghai Double Happiness noodle soup because it was included on a lunch special. The server was really friendly, and she sat me down the second I came in because it was a quiet day, what with the weather. The ambiance of this place is really peaceful. They play quiet jazz music, so it's a bit relaxing to be here, and the decor is really cute! As for my food, I really enjoyed it! Despite being vegetarian, it was really flavorful. The wheat gluten was sweet and absorbed a lot of the soup's flavor. I would've appreciated more nuts in my soup because they added a nice crunch. Coming back from China/Shanghai after a half year there, tasting the food here was really great. The breadth of cuisine from different regions of China are impressive that they serve in this resturaunt, given the small staff. But don't let that fool you, its a warm service and a somewhat family feel at that. A highlight dish of mine was the Sichuan dumplings coated in a lovely Sichuan oil sauce. So many of the dishes reminded me of my ma's cooking, this is the first restaurant where they have had Hainan chicken on the menu! So delicious and tender. The black bean sauce noodle dish was like my Ma's as well, except it was missing the scrambled egg strips. All of the food was delicious, but instead of the sliced hong kong pork chop we were given a beef dish by accident. We weren't disappointed in that dish but really wanted to try the pork chop.
