The staff at the restaurant are all very kind and welcoming. They seem to really care about your experience. The setting is quite unique: you're surrounded by a Korean small market yet outside the doors you're in getaway of a back patio with trees and foliage surrounding you. Quite serene. As for the food, the menu is quite vast, which I am happy about since I will be back to try everything! This was our second visit and during our first trip we were very happy with the three items we ordered, Rosé rice cakes, Dupp bop spicy pork belly, and Jang pasta w/ pork belly. My wife and I loved the duck bop spicy pork belly because it was not just a huge cube of meat, but instead, it was sliced fin to take on a lot of the good sauce. Today I had the lunch special, which left me extremely satisfied. The portion size was large as I'm a rather large eater anyway... The Bulgogi beef was seasoned perfectly over a bit of cabbage or greens, white rice, and the kimchi spicy pork belly soup as you will see in the image was bubbling hot. Superb but watch out if you can't handle the heat as it is a bit spicy. I would say the prices are fair as well. Reservations were not necessary and attire is very casual. read more

We came here on a Sunday at noon for a girls brunch. This is such a cute restaurant/mini market. Parking isn't that bad. I recommend going on a Sunday so the 90 minute street parking doesn't apply. We were easily able to get a table for four without reservation. But it was inside. Most people were sitting out on the patio. The back patio is such a cute vibe. It's like a lush garden with mature trees and shade and string lights. I wish they had a separate entrance for it though. I saw a couple people walking their dogs through the restaurant to get to the patio. The market actually has a pretty big selection of items! They even have several large refrigerators. I've never seen so many types of ramen outside a 99 Ranch. We ordered the palace rice cakes, beef cold noodles, spicy tofu, both fried chicken appetizers, and the jang pasta, and drinks. They have a nice selection of drinks that I haven't seen commonly offered at other Korean restaurants before like several types of Korean tea. Everything was delicious! My personal favorites were the jang pasta, palace rice cakes, and the cold noodles. The noodles were perfect to help cleanse the palate from the heavier and spicy menu items. Ur was tasty even without the vinegar. They were very generous with the amount of beef in the rice cakes. It was more beef than rice cake! The cost wasn't bad either. For four people it came out to $145 before tip. The only other suggestion I have is they install an air curtain or mesh curtains to help keep flies out. While I stay in the city, i found myself out by Berkeley with time to kill and a belly rumblin (key plot point), my day had been great and I was not trying to end it with a mediocre meal, so as I walked up, that stomach feeling got a little worse However upon entering and passing by the little corridor to the back, all my worries dissipated. The interior is calm with great use of wood colours, the outdoor patio is brilliantly shaded by trees, providing a little secret treehouse vibe like in Pokemon ruby. Outside was pretty popping though so I sat inside and ordered the bulgogi comfort stew. This thing was stuffed to the brim. From the description it's easy to feel like it's going to be a pretty boring dish, but it was far from. The broth was definitely comforting, I didn't care about anything after the first taste. There were different varieties of mushrooms inside providing adequate texture variation and the beef portion was generous! Usually I find myself hoarding meat in these stews to make sure I get good bites but the dish deceptively had a great amount such that I could eat a solo meat bite and still have enough! The banchan was also very flavourful. I ended up stuffed in this little hideaway, surrounded by the supermarket portion of this establishment and the calming hiphop lofi, if I was heading straight back home I would have grabbed a few things. It was hard to fault this place. Throw back to my stomach rumbling, before I left I used the restroom in the front and unfortunately the cosy hideaway, clean aesthetic seems to end at the little corridor. I recently stopped by Korean Superette and really enjoyed my meal. I ordered the Yangnyeom Chicken Plate, and it was excellent--crispy chicken coated in a savory, flavorful sauce with just the right amount of heat. Not overly spicy, just well-balanced and delicious. The plate came with rice, broccoli, and a selection of traditional banchan, which rounded out the meal nicely. I also ordered a glass of Chardonnay and was pleasantly surprised by the generous pour. Bonus points for that! I chose to sit on the back patio, which is absolutely delightful and made for a relaxed, enjoyable dining experience. Honestly this place took me by surprise! Upon first entering, it was an interesting concept where there were shelves stocked up with a bunch of korean snacks & banchan available for sale. Additionally, there were tables indoor and outdoor. It was very casual & honestly, didn't seem like there were many asian patrons, so I was a bit skeptical on how good the food could be. Between a party of 3, we shared the bossam, rose tteokbokki, and mul naengmyun, which was actually the perfect amount of food. All three dishes were absolutely delicious and exceeded expectations! Even all of the banchan dishes tasted like a lot of love and care was put into them. I liked that the garlic that came with the bossam was pickled and not raw... and the fact that the bossam came soaked in pork broth/juice, because that helped the meat stay warm and juicy throughout the meal. Adorable Korean restaurant in Berkeley's Northside! Korean Suprette is a restaurant that also serves as a mini supermarket - selling Asian snacks. It's on Solano Avenue so it's in an area with a lot of other food spots. They have great friendly service that made us feel welcomed when we entered the store. We got their Spicy Pork Belly Rice Bowl, Beef Tofu Soup, Rose Tteokbokki, and Spicy Cold Noodles. I personally liked the rice bowl and the tofu soup the best! They both had a nice comforting vibe to each dish that I really liked. Their cold noodles and rose tteokbokki were not bad either, but I personally didn't find them to be too memorable. They have a cute patio in the back that we didn't get to sit at, but I heard is very cute. I'd love to come back to try their lunch sets as well! Interesting experience.. this place doubles up as a restaurant and mini market. It was kinda weird dining in the center of the room where you're surrounded by fridges, snacks, etc. Feels too awkward to really walk around and browse because you'd be in somebody's personal space while they eat. Definitely too awkward to take pics of the snacks too. Outside of that.. the food here was really good. I ordered their bulgogi comfort stew and it got me sweating. The presentation was good and it was spicier than expected. The constant steam from the bowl made my eyes water all night. So yeah.. I suffered through it but still enjoyed the food. Was a bit confused walking in but their dining area was on the inside down the hall and then there's also a cute outside area, but the weather was too cold for me to sit outside. We ordered the Rose Rice Cakes and the Bossam. Rose Rice Cakes (7/10): the rice cakes weren't as soft as I'd like and were a bit stiff, the sauce was great through and they were very generous with the amount of rice cakes and fish cakes. Bossam (8/10): Super soft and tender pork sliced with very good flavor. They gave us refills of lettuce, samjang, and kimchi too when we ran out. One thing that stood out was how delicious their side dishes were. I would be willing to buy their side dishes alone, especially the mushroom and cucumber ones. Such a hidden gem in the Berkeley Hills--Korean Superette totally exceeded expectations. The setting alone makes it feel special, and the food delivers. I got the naengmyeon and it was incredibly refreshing--perfectly chewy noodles with a clean, flavorful broth that hit just right. Also tried the lunch special bapsang, and it was such a good deal with a variety of dishes that all felt thoughtfully prepared and super satisfying. Ordered a variety of dishes from Korean Superette to try, and unfortunately none of them impressed us. We ordered the bossam, black bean stew, shrimp pasta, cold noodles, and bulgogi mixed rice--none of the dishes stood out, and the ingredients felt more fusion-inspired than Korean comfort food, especially considering the higher price point. We also tried a few premade dishes from the market side, including the eggplant side dish and japchae, and both were poorly seasoned. I'd also skip the iced matcha latte, it was overly sweet, artificial matcha flavored (not real tea), and the staff told us it was not ceremonial-grade matcha. Service was disappointing as well. Our large table was charged a mandatory 20% gratuity, which would have been easier to accept if the service matched it. While one server was kind and attentive, the apparent lead staff member was impatient and gave noticeable attitude. It's a restaurant and market cute little place has outdoor seating and indoor seating a small market inside the indoor seating restaurant... I was greeted when I walked in. What a super cool spot. We've been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time now and finally had the opportunity over the weekend. Such a fun experience essentially having a meal within a market itself (see pictures). We started off with a fresh Dokkaebier on draft ~ I haven't seen these before and was pleasantly surprised to have a fresh and crisp one with our meal. Love to continue and support them! Food-wise we ordered the shrimp potstickers, the jang pasta with pork belly, and the udon noodles in a yellow curry broth with veggies and pork/cheese cutlet. Take me back in time because this meal was heavenly. Each dish had such unique and beautiful flavor. The jang pasta was rich and decadent, the curry creamy and honestly just a perfect pairing with the pork/cheese cutlet. The banchan served to split between two was nicely executed. Great service for us newbies helping to roll through the menu and market items of interest. There is also an outdoor area I can imagine is sweet at dusk too, so cute. We came for a weekday lunch and I had fun browsing the Korean snacks and to-go banchan for sale in the restaurant. We ordered the following and everything was delicious: Rose rice cakes with boiled egg: SO creamy and flavorful and spicy. It comes with cheese that cuts the spice level a bit. Huge portion size and the rice cakes were the perfect chewiness. You can also add ramen to it and I am definitely trying that next time because there was plenty of extra sauce. Seafood noodles: My sister loved the creamy sauce so much that after we took home the leftovers, she cooked extra noodles and added it to the leftover sauce. Korean fried chicken: SO GOOD. They deep fried and basted the chicken in sticky sweet sauce. There are always a line out the door so I stopped by to try. The service is fast, the staff doesn't bother you but do check when they walk by. If you need service just let them know. I order the silken tofu bowl with pork belly as this is a very basic dish that you can't go wrong on. The portion is pretty big and the price reflect the local area. Great food and I love that you can shop at the same time! Want to bring home something for dinner? You can buy it premade, frozen, or purchase the ingredients and make it yourself. But sit down instead and let them make it fresh for you. So good. FOOD: I had the lunch special which came with choice of meat (I had the spicy pork and it was delicious), soup (tofu stew for me), and rice which was delicious. Good banchan (small often pickled veggies), too. Naomi got a cold noodle soup which was a special and that looked amazing (and interactive). All of it was delicious. SERVICE: Really top notch. Had lunch with a few colleagues at the Suprette a few weeks ago. First of all, the weather was exceptional, and we were seated out back in the very Zen garden. I had been eating rather heavy fare the last few days, so I got mixed vegs with kimchee and tofu pancake. The bean sauce looked heavy, but to my very pleasant surprise was light and delicious. The tofu is homemade and fantastic. The panchan were not as typical as other Korean places, and that was selcome to me. One of my colleagues was in town from The Netherlands, and he ordered beef bulgogi with tofu soup. It is notable that he commented on the outsize portions served by US restaurants, but he cleaned hid bowl and plate. This is a little spot on Solano that we have been meaning to try and thought Father's Day would be a great occasion. So it is best to call ahead because the wait can be a bit unexpected. They do a great job on the wiring list and for four of us the wait was reasonable at twenty minutes. We opted for outside which is nice and covered. Great natural feel. We started with a bottle of soju for the adults and Korean iced teas for the children. The green matcha and lemon were instant hits. The children had the Korean friend chicken and spicy friend mackerel. They loved their dishes and the spices were just right. The wife had the silken tofu spicy soup and I had the bento box with bulgogi. . Everything was fresh and delicious with the right level of spice. The Korean spices and sides were fresh and tasty. Food was tasty. Rice cakes were a bit under cooked and dry but bulgogi was flavorful. Ambiance was cute but I immediately smelled the fabuloso cleaner which I can't stand. The restaurant has a combo grocery shop and freezer hence the Superette. I think the prices are ok for the location but you can def buy the ingredients from them and make many of the dishes at home for less or at least bigger servings for the same price. Overall a nice place for a date, family outing or even to dine alone! Service was the issue. My daughters meal came out like 10 minutes after my stew and she ended up eating all the banchan. Also banchan portions were served in small soy sauce type tiny dishes instead of the bigger circle plates you normally would get. This Korean spot is such a hidden gem in Albany. I've been on this street many time before and never noticed this place until today when my friend invited me to dinner. I got the spicy rice cakes and she got the curry udon. Both 10/10 and they had an amazing banchan selection. We also ordered the salt and pepper pork belly which I loved. It was surprisingly light which I appreciated and paired well with the rice cakes. We also got the aloe mint iced tea and would highly recommend you try!! So refreshing and fresh. Staff was friendly and answered questions and gave recommendations. The two of us ordered popcorn chicken to share, which was crispy on the outside and tender inside. It wasn't greasy or oily, and was good with and without the sauces. Ordered the Doshi Roc (bento box) with bulgogi beef ($21.99 + $2 extra for the bulgogi). Everything in the bento was fantastic (and I usually hate broccoli). However, the bulgogi was the star. A perfect flavor balance of sweet and savory. Clean, cozy, and charming eatery and mini-market tucked away on Solano Ave. The restaurant is back behind the kitchen and includes a cute patio (with heaters!) that features a gorgeous magnolia tree. The steaming spicy Korean soups were the perfect meals to enjoy during a chilly January evening. I had the doenjangjjigae (spicy soy bean beef stew) and the spicy fried tofu -- both came out steaming and maintained their flavor even as things cooled off. Everything was high quality. The service was quick and attentive and we had no problem splitting the check across two cards. They were very friendly without being over attentive, giving us the space we needed for a good dinner catch up between friends. This place is a longtime favorite of my Berkeley friend and I'm so glad I finally got a chance to try it with her. I have come here several times I enjoy the food a lot. I really do like the cold noodles, Naengmyeon, they have the perfect texture. I prefer the original over the spicy version. I love that they leave the vinegar and mustard there while you eat. The portion size is great. I have eaten both indoor and outdoor. Both are really nice and outdoors is super cute! Only issue is in the warmer months, there seemed to be a bit more flies joining the party. I also love going to grab snacks on the way out and try the current top selling items in Korea.
