Cute, cozy spot with warm and homey Korean dishes. I have been to the Korean Superette twice now and I absolutely adore it. Parking around in the area is a bit tough, however I've been pretty lucky to not have spent 10 minutes looking. The Korean Superette is a very very small grocery store with a restaurant in the back with a nice little patio outside. Even though small, there are a lot of tables. When I went there the last time was a table of at least 10 sitting outside, so if you're trying to go as a group, it's doable. If you sit inside, you're surrounded by Korean Ramyun packages on the wall and near the refrigerators for grab and go banchan for sale. Something about the vibe of it is very unique! Last visit I got the soondubu jigae, and honestly I didn't know what to expect. I was used to it coming out in an earthenware pot in restaurants (I know it doesn't need to be serve this way), but to my delight, this might be the best tofu soup I had around this area before. The broth was light, umami, and overall delicious. Check this spot out when you're around the area! read more

My pregnant friend and I were looking for food that could suit both of us (her with cooked and pasteurized foods and outdoor seating for health safety, me with spicy) and we landed on Korean Superette! We both really enjoyed with we ordered. I got the rose rice cakes with fish cake and yummmm. The creaminess and spiciness were perfect. Only thing is this is a heavier dish, so I will probably share it with someone next time. The inverted inari was a good way for me to break up what I was eating as all 3 had different flavor profiles. I personally love the mouth feel of inari so I would recommend! Her bento was perfectly cooked and yummy. I liked the banchan a lot! My complaint is I wish they gave us more/I wish refills were faster, but they had a full house and just one person when I was there! The outdoor area is really beautiful and the indoor supermarket has great snacks, noodles and banchan. Korean Superette is my new favorite Korean restaurant in this area! The food tastes homemade and it is delicious! Parking can be tricky but try to find parking in the nearby streets. The staff is very friendly. The ambience is lovely with an outdoor patio. It is a very nice place for a good lunch. There is a little store in the front with some unique homemade dishes and some good snacks! It is always fun to take things to go. If you like tea, take a jar of Citron Tea!! You won't be disappointed. Now for the food, my favorite is the Spicy Silken Tofu Soup with Beef 5/5. It is delicious!!! Very flavorful. I've also had the Bulgogi Kimbap 5/5 which is good! I didn't see it on the menu but they have a few different kinds; just ask the waiter. My daughter had the Rose Rice Cake 5/5! We loved this dish. The creamy tteokbokki with fish cakes was delicious! This place has my heart such a wonderful wonderful backyard space - the trees, the seating and the overall energy is just right. This place makes me happy and the service is super sweet. The inside has a grocery store style feel, done up in light wood and stocked with all the favorite Korean snacks. My friend took me here for dinner after work and it did not disappoint! The food smelled delicious upon entering the location and I loved the fact that you can purchase items in the market section. We arrived at a good time and were able to sit outside (late summer 2024). Within 15 minutes the restaurant was packed and you know that's a good sign!!! Korean Superette is a cool concept, a sprinkle of supermarket but 75% a restaurant with a good outdoor patio vibe. I did a pick-up order for dinner, and happened to be in the area. Parking is all street, but free. They're located in downtown Albany which is nice if you're just strolling around the area looking for a cute lil meal spot. Once you walk in, the cashier is there to greet you, but the supermarket aesthetic begins. To your right there's a bunch of fridges lined up, from frozen bulgogi to various sojus and frozen potstickers you can take your pick on what Korean goods you want to take home after your meal. Nothing spoke to me, as it's just a taste of what regular supermarkets like HMart of Koreana offer. Once you walk farther in, there's indoor seating, then outside of the sliding doors there's a cute outdoor patio (still shaded) space. It's pretty expansive, so great for families and groups. Their dishes are pricey, but I've found that Korean food prices have increased exponentially over the course of this year. Expect to pay $20+ per entree. Their menu is pretty straightforward, options like a bento situation or a rice or noodle bowl. I got their popular item Palace Rice Cake which is on the sweeter side with bulgogi, rice cakes, onions, bell peppers, green onion, and some mushroom! The sauce was way too savory for me, I was so thirsty after eating it, and had to add the remaining sauce to my own homecooked rice meals. But portion sizes are filling. I did appreciate that the meal came with a mini cup of banchan, like 4 options but it was still nice especially with takeout. Their seaweed salad was great, the others were just alright. Service is with a smile and efficient. The online orders come out quicker than anticipated, especially if you're ordering at low-demand times. I wouldn't say Korean Superette is my fave Korean spot...I'm still going to go to Moo Bong Ri if I am craving Korean, but Superette is a good option if you're looking for something to go and quick. read more

I loved Rivoli back in the day, so was sad to hear when it was closing. However, going to its reincarnation for the last few years as Korean Superette has been great. This place is the perfect spot to get some good Korean food to go if you don't feel like cooking...have had their jap chae, kim bap, and an eggplant tofu djsh. All were good except for the kim bap, which had really really dry rice (though that could have been just the batch since I only tried it once). There's also a restaurant with outdoor seating and I would say that the food is okay but not a standout compared to other Korean places. However, the outside area is very cozy and you have a nice small garden view to enjoy while eating. In the area where you can get food to go there's also a mini mart of Korea dry goods, tea, packaged snacks, and frozen items...quite a decent selection if you don't want to drive to North Oakland or Santa Clara. My only critique is that the menu is on the more expensive side for a quick bite and they don't have many less expensive options. Also it was a bit difficult to tell what was a full sized meal vs an appetizer, looking at the menu. It came with rice and veggies. Parking: there's free street parking in front which was nice. The service from the server girl was very friendly and attentive. I like when I come across folks like her because it really adds to the overall dining experience. I also ordered a bento to-go for my husband. Perhaps it was due to the fact we went with 0 expectations but the food was pretty good. I mean don't come looking for home cooked styled Korean food you'd find in a typical Korean household. They serve fusion style dishes which are lovely in their own right. Recommend the rose rice cake and regular cold noodle dish. It's not like a typical mul nengmyun. The soup base is like a mul nengmyun but overall flavor profile and textures reminded me of a blend between dongchimi, makguksu and nengmyun. Basically a dish going through an identity crisis but all is well! Eat outside and you'll enjoy the nice lighting and beautiful greenery on the patio. Fun and yum to enjoy with friends. Well thought-out Korean grocery and restaurant. I like how they put the shopping area and restaurant together. Nice open space that stretches all the way to the outdoor. You can watch other people picking up groceries while eating comfortably on the table. Quite creative. They have a nice selection of grocery products, probably lesser choice than bigger markets but more selected and some artisan products. I like their wide selection of side dishes and they all look pretty authentic and good quality. They also gave some lunch plates to go including Korean fried chicken. Wow, what an adorable place! As I walked through a short hallway, I fell in love with it instantly. There is an open yet cozy dining area, adorned with lantern lights, and neatly placed dining tables. Some friends were meeting up here, other solo diners were enjoying their meals. Several refrigerators and freezers are filled with prepared-to-go food as well as thinly sliced meat, and frozen udon for hotpot. The adjacent indoor dining area is a beautiful covered patio surrounded by thriving greens, evoking a romantic feeling. A man with his little dog was back there, enjoying a bowl of ramen. The menu is simple with a short list that covers the most craved Korean dishes. They also serve alcoholic beverages. We were there after 2:30 PM. It was a cold rainy day, I opted a warming, soothing tofu stew. My husband had bento. Both were nicely presented, delicious, and satisfying. Service was very attentive without being intrusive. Dishes came out fast. My tofu stew had different mushrooms in a delicious broth. My husband's miso chicken was very tender and tasty. We both enjoyed banchan and the server brought us a second. On our way out, we had to stop by those refrigerators filled with "yumminess". They looked irresistible. We got some for our next meal. We know they would taste good as well. This is a charming place with a well-balanced menu. It opens daily from 11 AM-9 PM. It is very convenient for anyone who needs to be fed quickly and well. Also for those who are on the go. Walked by after a good workout and was super hungry. Not many places were open at 4:00 so we saw this super cool place that is a market and a restaurant! Service was okay. we were a bit confused when we walked in because there was no one to seat us so I just walked in and grabbed a menu as i looked around. After a few mins, someone came by to seat us. No one came to check in on us after we got our food or refill our water container. Fried chicken: 3.5/5 It felt like fancy popcorn chicken? I wish it was more crunchy. Chicken was not dry which was good. Miso Ramen: 3/5 i reallly wanted to like this. it also felt like fancy instant ramen noodles. Broth was good but the noodles felt like it was from a package. I may not know much about ramen but it wasn't hitting right. I'm sad that there was no ramen egg with this. Toppings weren't my favorite unfortunately. Also. i think it's weird that there's no soup spoon. I wanted to have my ramen with my soup but they only had normal spoons. The soup stayed warm for a LONG time which was great. They are 100% using super amazing ceramics for their dishes and you can tell. Katsu: 4/5 Didn't think it was super special. Cooked well and was good. Rice to katsu ratio seemed a bit off. I'm so in love with this hidden gem. I ordered the silken tofu stew with braised pork belly. It was exactly the warm and comforting meal I needed--the broth was the perfect temperature, the pork belly was cooked just right, and they were pretty generous with the portions. I absolutely demolished the food and left no crumbs, literally. I also love how they give five different types of banchan (side dishes) each time. Service was immaculate, and they really treat each of their customers like royalty. They have a delightful little outdoor seating area, in addition to their mini grocery mart selling various Korean goodies. It was a bit too chilly to sit outside when I visited, but I'm sure it would be a beautiful experience on a nicer day. I'll definitely be back to try everything else on the menu.
