I don't really enjoy writing negative reviews of restaurants, especially smaller businesses but today's visit to Crave really left a bad taste in my mouth. One of my biggest pet peeves is when restaurants reduce the guality or quantity of their meal to cut costs while charging premium prices. I will say I didn't mind paying a few dollars more for their subs in the past. I went there today for the first time in a couple of years, ordered a regular size basic ruben sandwich (no add-ons) and was ok paying nearly $18 dollars for just the sandwich until they handed it to me. what I got was a small 6" sub. When did their subs shrink?? in this economy we are all struggling. I get it, things cost more but Craves' owner is not doing his patrons a service by charging them premiums while cutting back on the meals. If you're ok paying that much for a shrunken sub, more power to you. I l, however, will not be going back there. read more

The veggie meat was ultra salty and the Beast sandwich had sweet strawberry jam. Did not see that on the menu and didn't correlate the names of the sandwiches to the tv characters my kids watched when they were younger until I opened up the sandwich and saw the red jam. I prefer peanut butter and jam instead of meat and jam. Only veggie was chopped lettuce and barely saw anything else. Overwhelming flavor was the jam which was squeezing out of the sandwich. Sandwiches named after cartoon/comic characters. Comic themed and comics for sale. There is a sweets and coffee shop inside also called Scoop N Chill. Restroom available for customers which closes about 30 min before the shop closes. BART station is underground for easy access. Got there about 7pm and it wasn't very bust so quiet and relaxing. Really solid sandwiches + amazing housemade sauces + super crispy loaded fries. Tried 3 sandwiches but my favorite would probably be the Pikachu, which was grilled chicken, honey mustard, siracha, avocado, their addicting crave sauce, lettuce & tomato. One thing about this spots sandwiches is they DO NOT skimp! I am full from like half the sandwich. Also tried the steak storm fries available weekends only as well as their spider-man fries (basically buffalo fried chicken and ranch on top of fries. Both were solid, especially if your like your fries super crispy (but I like mine softer in the middle). The spider man fries were definitely saucier and full of buffalo sauce which I enjoyed more than the lighter-flavored steak storm fries. Really nice and attentive workers! Pretty busy when we went on a Sunday around 2:30PM. There's minimal seating and you might need to take your food to-go when it's super busy. Water, napkins, etc r mostly self-serve. You need to check them out. Parking it's a bit difficult to find however, if you walk a couple blocks, you should be able to find something. I've gotten the Patrick Star and the Crave Ruben in the past, and I highly recommend both sandwiches. It might not be my top chicken sandwich (Patrick star), but it is up there. The Ruben is one of the few Rubens that I've been able to find, in addition to it being full of meat and other veggies. The bread for the sandwiches is very solid. If I'm in the mood for something fresh, Crave is one of my few options in Berkeley. The restaurant has plenty of seating, a kiosk to order, and makes lovely sandwiches of all kinds.
