2/21/26- Very tasty sandwich. Employees very friendly. Place looked and smelled very clean. Small sandwich shop at the Berkeley BART Station on Shattuck. Sandwiches named after cartoon/comic characters. Comic themed and comics for sale. There is a sweets and coffee shop inside also called Scoop N Chill. Restroom available for customers which closes about 30 min before the shop closes. BART station is underground for easy access. Got there about 7pm and it wasn't very bust so quiet and relaxing. There is a "lounge" area right outside the entrance.
Really solid sandwiches + amazing housemade sauces + super crispy loaded fries. Tried 3 sandwiches but my favorite would probably be the Pikachu, which was grilled chicken, honey mustard, siracha, avocado, their addicting crave sauce, lettuce & tomato. One thing about this spots sandwiches is they DO NOT skimp! I am full from like half the sandwich. Also tried the steak storm fries available weekends only as well as their spider-man fries (basically buffalo fried chicken and ranch on top of fries. Both were solid, especially if your like your fries super crispy (but I like mine softer in the middle). The spider man fries were definitely saucier and full of buffalo sauce which I enjoyed more than the lighter-flavored steak storm fries. Really nice and attentive workers! Pretty busy when we went on a Sunday around 2:30PM. There's minimal seating and you might need to take your food to-go when it's super busy. Water, napkins, etc r mostly self-serve. The place has lots of comics on the wall so it was a cool theme!
Amazing sandwich shop! Love the comic book theme and names of the sandwiches. These are the types of subs you wanna get when you have the munchies. Definitely all hitters. Fries are saucy and seasoned, and sandwiches are packed with meat! Definitely recommend
Crave Subs honestly feels like the perfect spot for students. Their sandwiches are unreal. Super thick, loaded, and actually filling. There are so many options too, whether you're vegetarian or a meat lover, and everything is halal, which is a huge plus. They also have loaded fries, which just makes the whole menu even better. I love that everything is themed and the inside has so much personality. There's a whole wall covered in cartoon art, which makes the space fun and unique, and it's genuinely a nice place to sit and eat. They also recently started sharing a location with Sweet Spot, where they serve crêpes and gelato style ice cream, which is such a win. I genuinely love Crave Subs. It really feels like one of the best sandwich spots in Berkeley and always hits
I love the interior and comic book theme of the restaurant! Upon entering you are immediately greeted at the register where you can also find a whole tray of delicious cookies. I ordered on Snackpass, so luckily I did not need to wait long for my sandwich. I also appreciate the complementary lollipop that comes w/ each order. * Grogu - 8.5/10 (the portion size of the sandwiches here are very generous & i love the dutch crunch bread. i like how the cheese is melted onto the pesto, & that combined w/ the crave sauce really elevates the taste of the sub. my only complaint is that the chicken had good flavor, but it was a bit dry)
Crave was my favorite sandwich spot in college and it holds up! It's definitely on the pricier side, but the sandwiches are so flavorful and loaded up with filling. I always get the Shaggy, which is turkey based. The dutch crunch bread here is some of the best I've ever had too. Looking forward to the next time I'm in Berkeley so I can grab another sandwich!!

We just stumbled across this place while visiting Berkeley. Stopped in for lunch. Got a medium sub. There were a lot of choices. I didn't realize how thick the subs were could've went with a 4 inch added a bag of chips and a drink. The service was very good. They were very nice when we got in thereand answered questions about the menu.
Excellent sandwich which was perfectly portioned for one person. It was filling. Service was prompt and kind. Will return in the future.
Very good sandwich, very good customer service. I loved the names of the food dishes in the menu and the art on the wall. The bathroom was the deal breaker for me. Both toilets had urine all over the toilet seats. I let the staff know and they said they would take care of it. They could have been short staffed, im not sure but all of the staff was friendly and always doing something. The food was fantastic. I do recommend, just was disappointed about the bathroom in the moment, cause I had to go. Not their problem. I still recommend them.
First time trying Crave Subs in downtown Berkeley and it was an amazing experience! The sandwiches are top-tier--super fresh, flavorful, and the portions are great. I also love that they have an ice cream place right there; it's the perfect way to end the meal. The staff was incredibly welcoming and made me feel right at home. If you're in Berkeley, you definitely need to check this place out. 10/10!
The subs here are unbeatable. They have many layers of different flavors and textures, all combined to be one huge sub to bite into; in my sandwiches, the meat, cheese, sauce, and toppings were incredible. They are some of the most satisfying sandwiches I've ever eaten. Try the Patrick Star. It's a fried chicken sub taken to the next level with the signature Crave sauce and the wonderful bread that Crave Subs offers. It's so packed with fillings, it's practically exploding. And that fried chicken has just the right bite to it. Then try the Buzzlightyear for the best turkey, pesto, and bread combination you might ever witness. It's also overflowing with filling and has got a bright and savory flavor that you'll enjoy. And don't overlook the Pikachu. It's a grilled chicken sub with an enticing bit of spice. Like the others, it requires big mouthfuls and a bit of determination to eat neatly, but it's so worth it. They also have sides, salads, and loaded fries. The loaded fries are to die for and are just as attractive as the subs! The delicious curly fries come coated in meat, cheese, and sauce, to make the most alluring combination of flavor and texture. Try the Wolverine or Goku Black fries! They can accommodate gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan requests. The environment here is comic-book themed and so much fun! I love the cute, comic-book and cartoon themed titles and the way the shop takes on a retro, funky personality with all the comic book/cartoon/pop-culture decorations. You can order and pay with a kiosk, making your encounters with the staff rather brief if you like, but the staff is available to help and very friendly. They do nothing to prevent you from fully enjoying the restaurant and the incredible subs. The subs and loaded fires are moderately priced, but in my opinion, I more than get my money's worth each time because the food and eating experience are absolutely fantastic! They have a kids' menu, making it a perfect place to bring young ones or just come and feel young again yourself!

San Francisco has lots of places to grab a sandwich. It's seems I ate at the majority of delis in SF. Sometimes it's good to try something different and a place with some interesting character and characters. I usually get deli sandwiches which have deli meats but this place has fried chicken sandwiches . So I was craving a sandwich so I headed to Crave Subs in Downtown Berkeley next to BART station. They have lots of sandwiches available on the menu. On a Summer stroll getting some sun in Downtown Berkeley I landed at Crave Subs. Inside it's like you stepped into an ice cream parlor with a comic book shop and arcade and a deli all at the same time. You will see sandwiches on the menu called the Pikachu, Ned Flanders, and Bart Simpson. You will see Chewbacca fries along with the Spider-Man fries and the vegan Sailormoon fries. I got the Captain Boom Halal Fried Chicken, Boom Boom Sauce, Cheddar Cheese and Crave Sauce on a roll. It was tasty and a bit crunchy and had lots of flavor. It's one of the best Halal chicken sandwiches I had. If you crave a fried chicken sandwich then Crave Subs is the spot. It will "cost "you an extra 50 cents if you want to "floss" with extra drip "sauce" to show off on social media and during OSL my social media feed was stuck in the" Land of OZ" If you want great fried chicken sandwich you don't need to visit KFC or meet the chicken"commanders" like the late "Colonel Sanders" just get a Captain Boom with "Halal chicken standards" or grab a Pikachu sandwich or a turkey sandwich called the "Ned Flanders " read more
I don't really enjoy writing negative reviews of restaurants, especially smaller businesses but today's visit to Crave really left a bad taste in my mouth. One of my biggest pet peeves is when restaurants reduce the guality or quantity of their meal to cut costs while charging premium prices. I will say I didn't mind paying a few dollars more for their subs in the past. I went there today for the first time in a couple of years, ordered a regular size basic ruben sandwich (no add-ons) and was ok paying nearly $18 dollars for just the sandwich until they handed it to me. what I got was a small 6" sub. When did their subs shrink?? in this economy we are all struggling. I get it, things cost more but Craves' owner is not doing his patrons a service by charging them premiums while cutting back on the meals. If you're ok paying that much for a shrunken sub, more power to you. I l, however, will not be going back there. read more

We came here for lunch and ordered through Snackpass, so by the time we got there, the food was ready! The place itself is not the most cleanest, but there was seating. Parking is also limited outside. The sandwiches themselves were good! I enjoyed my Tom and Jerry sandwich, it was super saucey. The chicken was well cooked, but it was a little on the heavier side so having more lettuce would have made it perfect. My friend got the Knight Stallion, and it was loaded with turkey. This sandwich was lighter and just as delicious. The size of these sandwiches were good, not too big but not too small. Overall, this is one of my go-to places to get sandwiches in Berkeley. read more

Crave is a decent sandwich shop. However the bread has a lot of additives. I got the Dutch crunch bread and it just seemed fake. Maybe you should get your sandwich on a French bread instead. Not enough meat, and definitely too much bread. Sauce on the sandwich is definitely too much. Takes away from the taste of the meat in the sandwich. read more

Soon after I posted my first review, the business reached out and apologized, and they comped me for my next sandwich! I appreciate that they took the extra effort to make up for the experience. It shows they care about the customers! I got something different this time, and I have no complaints! If I went back, I'd probably get the vegan goku again, just because it was different from most sandwiches (and it was really good). read more

I love that this place is halal since I don't eat pork. I tried a sandwich with beef bacon, and it was really good! The Crave sauce is amazing. My son said it was the best turkey sandwich he's ever had. The staff was also really nice. Also, love the mural! read more
I've been wanting to try this place and the portion size and value really did not disappoint. I was really hungry but could only eat half of the sandwich and I got a regular wazowski. The restaurant was also bigger than what I expected. The wazowski came with sweet grilled chicken, a generous amount of avocado, and pesto. I opted for Dutch crunch. All the ingredients were pretty fresh, but honestly, Mezzo has fresher ingredients. However, on a budget crave does the job. You also get 20% off your first order on Snackpass! read more
Crave subs offers really good subs and it makes it even better that they are halal as well. I have had a few of their sandwiches and honestly you can't go wrong with any. This was my go-to spot when in Berkeley & it continues to be when I am in the area. Order online for efficiency or you can sit down an eat inside as there are plenty of tables. I love the comic book feel of the place & its really just a solid spot to get that sub fix. Plus I highly recommend their curly fries, super addicting & honestly my favorite place for curly fries. read more

Came here because it was highly recommended online but was somewhat disappointed. The crunch bread was delicious and similar to Ike's. But the vegetarian version of our sub was bland and the fake chicken seemed like a slab of plain tofu rather than a meat substitute as expected. Staff was a little rude when asked for a side of jalapeños after ordering because there was no clear indication on their ordering screen when we placed our orders ourselves. Pretty small inside but bathrooms were clean and available. read more
Pretty decent subs. It's on the pricier end but the sandwiches are quite filling. Some of the sandwiches can be really sauce-y and heavy. After trying several sandwiches, the turkey fight club remains my top contender. I do feel like the sandwiches have gotten a bit smaller over the past year. They've recently added milkshakes to the menu. I tried the Scooby Milkshake (chocolate) and it's really good! read more
Habibi this place is halal!!! Leaving this review for their Hayward location since it does not have a Yelp account yet. Today was their grand opening, and I was so pleased with the quality of the food as well as the service. The most outstanding combo had to be the pastrami sandwich. It offered a nice kick of heat, and the Dutch crunch bread held all the flavor together so nicely. There are also a lot of vegan options, which brings both the Halal community and the vegan community together so nicely! The ambiance was crackin' with the live music and DJ they brought in. read more

I came across this place on social media, and the sandwiches looked delicious. I gave it a try after a nearby hike, and my expectations were met. The prices at Crave are fair, and they give you a lot of food. I got the regular sized Patrick Star, and I couldn't even imagine what a large size sandwich would look like. The regular was already big. I couldn't finish all of my food, so I would recommend sharing fries if you can. The sauce on the Patrick Star was tasty. It is korean inspired, and it has a bit of a kick to it. Nothing overwhelming though. They have their own signature sauces. They are worth trying! read more

The best halal deli subs I have ever had! We always stop here on our way to SF for lunch and it never disappoints. I always get the crave reuben and my brother gets the patrick star. The patrick star is a very unique tasting sandwhich and I'm definitely gonna make that my new favorite. The service is quick and the sandwich is always perfect. read more
