Stopped by for falafel. You can order with the tablet or with the cashier. Falafel came out after about 5-10 minutes. Solid falafel. Plenty of seating on a Thursday night.

I love D'Yar, I do not car what anybody says. This place is such a great deal for what you get and the flavors are fantastic! In super close proximity to the UC Berkeley campus, this place is a reliable spot for food whether for lunch or some late night eats. Service is always super quick which is a plus! The restaurant itself is small and is nestled on the side of Durant Ave. I love getting their chicken shawarma snack, falafel wraps, couscous with chicken, and plain 'ol hummus. Super good! The chicken shawarma snack is probably the best deal. So so cheap and very filling! Overall, love this spot and it has become one of my go-to spots around campus. Try it!

Beef & Lamb Gyro Plate

The beef and lamb were tasty and seasoned and paired well with the pita. The fries were average and a little thicker and oilier than I would prefer. The hummus was pretty bland, and the yogurt sauce was better. The service was quick, and the people at the counter were nice.

Ordered the lamb gyro plate. Fast service and large portion sizes. Super convenient and close to campus! Highly recommend this place for a quick meal!

I love the food, interior of this place and the service. Very tiny spot with 6 tables and a few bar stools but worth the visit if you're in Berkeley for flavor, quality, and portions.

Delicious and amazing food! Prepared fresh with such good flavors! I've been here three times in the past week and ordered the Mediterranean Plate each time. Wonderful service too! Highly recommend.

Chicken shawarma plate (delicious!)

After 5 months since my last visit, this place is still on top! Their CHICKEN SHAWARMA was seasoned and roasted perfectly, the rice was fluffy, the bread was soft, their tzatziki and salad were fresh, and the price was still amazing for the portion. I recommend this spot to anyone searching for delicious Mediterranean food in the area!! I wish I could've taken a photo before I scarfed down my entire plate.

Chicken Shawerma Snack

Such a yummy shawarma! Meat is so juicy and the wrap is deliciously crisped, toum and pickles give it the perfect tanginess. Comes with good amount of fries as well- they're okay.

I ordered on Snackpass since there was a 20% off for first order discount. I got a falafel deluxe wrap, which was ready pretty quickly after I ordered which was on Sunday around lunchtime. Although it didn't stand out as spectacular or unique, there was a decent amount of falafel and overall with the discount, the portion was good for the price. They are a solid choice for Mediterranean food if you are near UC Berkeley campus, it's right next door to the Durant food court. They don't have outdoor seating but you can walk to nearby places like the Durant food court or campus to sit down and eat outdoors.

Great food for the price! I ordered a wrap and my friend ordered a bowl, which both came out pretty quickly. There's only a small seating area because people usually order to-go, and there's no trash cans. Order through Snackpass to find discounts!

Ordered off of Snackpass on a Tuesday lunch for the first time and felt a bit disappointed. Overall, for the other options you could get in Berkeley, this spot is pretty low on my list since I was just a bit disappointed with the plate. Not that it was bad, just pretty simple/basic. They offer indoor dining now, and whip out orders pretty quickly, but apart from that, there food wasn't as spectacular as I'd hope. Got the chicken shawarma plate and the hummus felt a bit diluted in oil. There wasn't too much chicken either and was hoping for a bit more in the salad.

What time do they open?

I know it's 11 a.m. on weekends. Not sure about weekdays, but I don't remember any breakfast items on the menu, so I would doubt it opens any earlier.

The restaurant is fairly small with probably about a half a dozen tables, etc. The owner was very polite, and thankfully very patient with us for a friends lunch. We originally had plans for another restaurant, but this location, etc. worked out. Everyone spent quite a bit of time catching up, and we were made to feel at home. I ordered a side of fries for a shareable at the table. I found the fries to be very underwhelming and needed more seasoning and considering that it's seven dollars for a side of fries the serving was pretty mediocre. I ordered the lamb/beef gyro plate. The side salad was very fresh and had a light vinaigrette dressing. I would have liked for the dressing to be more of an actual vinaigrette flavor. The rice was light and fluffy, but again, lacked seasoning/flavor. The side of yogurt sauce, was tasty, but did not hit the spot. Why? Because it really lacked the flavors. Notice a theme? I will say, the meat was tender, and it had a really nice flavor to it. It was delicious enough that it was very difficult to differentiate between a lamb flavor versus a beef flavor. It all tasted good together. The soft drinks are rather pricey. It was around $3.50 for a bottled Coke. Yikes! When we were done with our meal, we were served complementary hot tea. It was a nice touch.

Nothing crazy. But then my daughter noticed that the chicken in her Fattoush salad was a bit raw in the middle. She cut open all the pieces she still had on her plate, and a couple were the same. We called the server over and informed her that the chicken was undercooked. She took the salad to the kitchen to fix the problem. A couple of minutes later, she came back with her salad and said her chicken would be done in a bit. I think we were in shock. Never in my 57 years of life/30 years in the food industry have I ever seen a restaurant take the food off a plate that had bites taken out of it, salad that had been halfway consumed, PUT THE CHICKEN BACK ON THE GRILL, AND RE-SERVED THE SALAD TO THE CUSTOMER. We didn't quite know what to do. When she came back with the recooked chicken, we knew it was the same pieces because they were all cut in half as before. In hindsight, should we have called over the manager? Probably. He probably would have had the salad redone, which would have taken more time than we had. Did it take away the fact that they recooked half-eaten chicken on the grill and re-served the same salad? No. This is clearly a major health code violation. Then, when they cleared our plates, the server said to us, "You didn't want dessert, did you?" That was the icing on the un-ordered cake for us. So disappointing. Food was pretty tasteless, and service was... very odd. I think we're done with Zaytoon.

The squeeze of lemon on top made it taste even zestier and really brought everything together. My only tiny suggestion would be to add more lemon. Lemon is relatively inexpensive, so an extra slice (or one thick wedge, like a generous 1/4 of a lemon) would really elevate it even more. The Armenian potato salad was AMAZING. I honestly prefer it over any traditional potato salad I've had. It was fresh, well-seasoned, and had so much flavor. The Rice Pilaf was also delicious -- I'm not sure what all the ingredients were, but every bite had great texture and seasoning. You can tell care goes into it. The hummus was smooth, creamy, and full of flavor. I would've loved one more piece of pita bread to go with it, but what they provided was still really good. Overall, I rarely give perfect reviews, but this is easily a 4.5 out of 5 for me. Since Yelp doesn't allow half stars, they're getting the full five. Just a couple small improvements and it would be flawless. Definitely coming back.
