    Chicken shawarma plate
    Andrea R.

This is a great option for casual food, if you're in the UC Berkeley area. It's located on Durant, which is full of restaurants and cheap eats (perfect for students!). D'Yar is a casual restaurant with a long menu full of different options, including veggie, chicken, lamb, and more. My friends and I walked over from the UC Berkeley campus and ordered chicken shawarma plates. The 2 ladies working were very friendly and fast. We ordered to go because we were not planning on staying at the restaurant for very long, but we all ended up finishing our chicken shawarma plates before leaving. Each plate came with pita, chicken, rice, hummus, salad, and dipping sauce. Everything was tasty and delicious!

Stopped by for falafel. You can order with the tablet or with the cashier. Falafel came out after about 5-10 minutes. Solid falafel. Plenty of seating on a Thursday night.

I love D'Yar, I do not car what anybody says. This place is such a great deal for what you get and the flavors are fantastic! In super close proximity to the UC Berkeley campus, this place is a reliable spot for food whether for lunch or some late night eats. Service is always super quick which is a plus! The restaurant itself is small and is nestled on the side of Durant Ave. I love getting their chicken shawarma snack, falafel wraps, couscous with chicken, and plain 'ol hummus. Super good! The chicken shawarma snack is probably the best deal. So so cheap and very filling! Overall, love this spot and it has become one of my go-to spots around campus. Try it!

    Beef & Lamb Gyro Plate

The beef and lamb were tasty and seasoned and paired well with the pita. The fries were average and a little thicker and oilier than I would prefer. The hummus was pretty bland, and the yogurt sauce was better. The service was quick, and the people at the counter were nice.

Ordered the lamb gyro plate. Fast service and large portion sizes. Super convenient and close to campus! Highly recommend this place for a quick meal!

I love the food, interior of this place and the service. Very tiny spot with 6 tables and a few bar stools but worth the visit if you're in Berkeley for flavor, quality, and portions.

Delicious and amazing food! Prepared fresh with such good flavors! I've been here three times in the past week and ordered the Mediterranean Plate each time. Wonderful service too! Highly recommend.

After 5 months since my last visit, this place is still on top! Their CHICKEN SHAWARMA was seasoned and roasted perfectly, the rice was fluffy, the bread was soft, their tzatziki and salad were fresh, and the price was still amazing for the portion. I recommend this spot to anyone searching for delicious Mediterranean food in the area!! I wish I could've taken a photo before I scarfed down my entire plate.

Such a yummy shawarma! Meat is so juicy and the wrap is deliciously crisped, toum and pickles give it the perfect tanginess. Comes with good amount of fries as well- they're okay.

I ordered on Snackpass since there was a 20% off for first order discount. I got a falafel deluxe wrap, which was ready pretty quickly after I ordered which was on Sunday around lunchtime. Although it didn't stand out as spectacular or unique, there was a decent amount of falafel and overall with the discount, the portion was good for the price. They are a solid choice for Mediterranean food if you are near UC Berkeley campus, it's right next door to the Durant food court. They don't have outdoor seating but you can walk to nearby places like the Durant food court or campus to sit down and eat outdoors.

    What time do they open?

I know it's 11 a.m. on weekends. Not sure about weekdays, but I don't remember any breakfast items on the menu, so I would doubt it opens any earlier.

The restaurant is fairly small with probably about a half a dozen tables, etc. The owner was very polite, and thankfully very patient with us for a friends lunch. We originally had plans for another restaurant, but this location, etc. worked out. Everyone spent quite a bit of time catching up, and we were made to feel at home. I ordered a side of fries for a shareable at the table. I found the fries to be very underwhelming and needed more seasoning and considering that it's seven dollars for a side of fries the serving was pretty mediocre. I ordered the lamb/beef gyro plate. The side salad was very fresh and had a light vinaigrette dressing. I would have liked for the dressing to be more of an actual vinaigrette flavor. The rice was light and fluffy, but again, lacked seasoning/flavor. The side of yogurt sauce, was tasty, but did not hit the spot. Why? Because it really lacked the flavors. Notice a theme? I will say, the meat was tender, and it had a really nice flavor to it. It was delicious enough that it was very difficult to differentiate between a lamb flavor versus a beef flavor. It all tasted good together. The soft drinks are rather pricey. It was around $3.50 for a bottled Coke. Yikes! When we were done with our meal, we were served complementary hot tea. It was a nice touch.

Ambience was very relaxed and I really like how there was a half steps down into a little patio area so it seemed like you were almost underground, but you could see out. The only thing on my mind was "I need some food that will lift up my spirits". We happened to stumble upon Jerusalem because it was at the end of Solano Avenue and we did not have the strength to go anywhere else for food. I can say with full confidence that that was the best decision we made! The food was 10/10 experience. Maybe my hunger made it taste better but you really can't say their food is not good. I got their combination platter with chicken and lamb. Perfect seasoning that went well with the saffron rice, hummus and pita. It was so refreshing!! Additionally, the portions are so big! I could hardly fit everything on my plate. I was so so happy about that. The restaurant itself is easy to miss in my opinion and seems a bit old but that gives it a nice aesthetic. The service was good but they were quiet busy with other customers so they could not really focus on us. I didn't care though, I was just so focused on finishing up the delicious meal. Safe to say, I left feeling very satisfied. This is definitely one of the best middle eastern dishes I've had. I loved everything about this place and I can't wait to go back.

The guy behind the counter was super friendly and offered us a sample of one of the flavors to try which I thought was a nice gesture. To my surprise, my favorite ended up being the saffron, though rose petal with pomegranate and sour cherry with pastachio were close seconds.
