This review is based on an order for delivery. We ordered food for 12 people and all of the food was good. The rice was a little small for 12 servings, but all of it was good and went over well for our group. The delivery was on time and communicated for delivery. My favorite was the salmon skewers and the spinach filo, a lot of flavor and texture! So good. This was my first time eating from here, but I would definitely return again!

I ordered the Salmon Kebab Dinner and this might officially be my new go-to spot for Mediterranean food. The salmon was cooked perfectly -- tender, flavorful, and not dry at all. The squeeze of lemon on top made it taste even zestier and really brought everything together. My only tiny suggestion would be to add more lemon. Lemon is relatively inexpensive, so an extra slice (or one thick wedge, like a generous 1/4 of a lemon) would really elevate it even more. The Armenian potato salad was AMAZING. I honestly prefer it over any traditional potato salad I've had. It was fresh, well-seasoned, and had so much flavor. The Rice Pilaf was also delicious -- I'm not sure what all the ingredients were, but every bite had great texture and seasoning. You can tell care goes into it. The hummus was smooth, creamy, and full of flavor. I would've loved one more piece of pita bread to go with it, but what they provided was still really good. Overall, I rarely give perfect reviews, but this is easily a 4.5 out of 5 for me. Since Yelp doesn't allow half stars, they're getting the full five. Just a couple small improvements and it would be flawless. Definitely coming back.

    Chicken shawarma lunch

Weekday afternoon lunch, the restaurant both inside and out was about half full. They have a small two-row outside dining area directly by the door and a little parklet across the sidewalk. Our server arrived with a green bottle of water (they utilize various shapes of unmarked green glass bottles for their water service). We ordered the chicken kebab on rice w/chopped potato salad, and the lamb shawarma sandwich w/veg-lentil soup; both came with complimentary warm pita. Each dish had a good-sized dollop of hummus. Both the chicken and the lamb were dry (overcooked); the soup was a bit salty. The potato salad was great, as was the hummus with the warm and tasty pita. The wrap on the shawarma was toasted and crispy, the flavors were good. Ambiance was relaxed, service was fine, our order time was reasonable. I have the feeling that this is a regular lunch meet-up spot for the majority of the clientele I saw. It's a comfortable spot in Elmwood for lunch; the caveat being that protein in the kebabs and shawarma may be overcooked.

We decided to cater La Mediterranee for an event at UC Berkeley, and we all loved it! The spreads were beautifully displayed, and all of our students enjoyed them. The pomegranate chicken drumsticks were a particular favorite. They were so tender they just fell off the bone. We are so excited to cater with La Med for future events!

    Falafel Salad

Came here cause I was craving a salad. I got the falafel salad which was a huge portion and included tons of veggies and some delicious dressing. I got chili sauce on the side and mixed it into the tahini dressing for a kick. I also had a small spinach and feta pastry that was delicious. Next time I'd want to try one of their rice plates

It was delicious, but this was my second time goin and I think the first time was better. I didn't really like how the meat was cut this time - it kinda felt like they just used lamb that would've been put in a wrap which resulted in a less juicy/slightly drier meat than what I had before (same dish). The portion size is perfect though, with the rice, meat, and salad and is so easy to scarf down

You don't have to sell me on La Mediterranee. I've been a longtime fan of both their San Francisco locations on Fillmore and Noe. I had delivery from this place during the COVID days but never physically been to the Elmwood location until Jamie W and I casually strolled the 'hood on a lazy Saturday afternoon when we didn't feel like going home to cook. We decided to grab a late lunch here, conveniently a bigger space than the other locations. I always order the same dish, the $17.95 Middle Eastern Plate, because it's basically the restaurant's greatest hits on one plate. Along with their housemade hummus and fresh pita, the dish featured a choice of three mini-entrees. I went for the Chicken Cilicia Fillo, Spinach & Feta Fillo, and Lamb Lule (Photo 9). Jamie had the same chicken and lamb and the Levant Sandwich (Photo 8). This was definitely the way to go for lunch because it's not only $3-4 cheaper than the dinner price but it was pretty tasty in bar bite portions. Jamie went for the Vegan Lentil Soup on the side, while I went for the green salad. I have to say for all the edible riches, the service was unfortunately rather spotty. Still worth a visit. FOOD - 4 stars...that Middle Eastern Plate is still stellar AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...a bit more spacious than the SF locations SERVICE - 2.5 stars...timing and responsiveness felt off TOTAL - 4 stars...still worthwhile for the fillo and hummus RELATED - Exploring Berkeley? Half of the memo to share

We went for the next player to share between 2. I believe we had 8 different dishes to share , all so delicious and tasty. We arrived on a Sunday night at 6.30pm and it was super busy but got a tiny table on the heated patio. As we were sharing dishes the small table was kind of fun as we had to move dishes Tetris style. Staff were discrete yet very helpful. I feel that. we did have a true sample of what the countries around the Mediterranean Sea have to offer.

When was the last time I came here... I think almost 10yrs ago... and yes, I came to have a good dinner. First, food never change from what I expected, the same tastes and servings... I enjoyed the small plates and shareable. Check my pics for reference...every bite brings me back to the old days I used to come here. Second, the ambiance is still carries the old family feel, the old homey feeling of getting dinner. Now, I'm alittle sad, how the service changed, the new servers are not as welcoming or pleasant anymore.. I didn't get that feeling of family welcome... I remember how old times, servers here used to talk to you and make you feel home and make you feel the dinner they served you is the same food you get at home. But, it's the food that matters most, maybe next time I'll just get a take out.

Do they still have the brunch meza?

Unfortunately, we no longer serve the brunch Meza.

    Do you serve chicken bastilla?

Thank you for reaching out. We have our version of chicken bastilla as our chicken cilicia. It is the cinnamon chicken with currants wrapped in fillo dough, but comes in small rolls.

    Do they take reservations?

Yes, but on Friday and Saturday night for parties of 6 or more only.

The only thing on my mind was "I need some food that will lift up my spirits". We happened to stumble upon Jerusalem because it was at the end of Solano Avenue and we did not have the strength to go anywhere else for food. I can say with full confidence that that was the best decision we made! The food was 10/10 experience. Maybe my hunger made it taste better but you really can't say their food is not good. I got their combination platter with chicken and lamb. Perfect seasoning that went well with the saffron rice, hummus and pita. It was so refreshing!! Additionally, the portions are so big! I could hardly fit everything on my plate. I was so so happy about that. The restaurant itself is easy to miss in my opinion and seems a bit old but that gives it a nice aesthetic. The service was good but they were quiet busy with other customers so they could not really focus on us. I didn't care though, I was just so focused on finishing up the delicious meal. Safe to say, I left feeling very satisfied. This is definitely one of the best middle eastern dishes I've had. I loved everything about this place and I can't wait to go back.

We sat down and the server who is also the chef's wife, a fact she made sure we understood throughout the evening, asked what we wanted to order. We asked how many lamb chops came with the lamb chop plate. She explained that they were priced by weight and that, because it was dinner, they could only serve us a large plate. Fine. We ordered the large plate. She then began repeatedly reminding us that they are not a restaurant. Despite the giant "RESTAURANT" sign behind her. According to her, it is a wine bar. This distinction became particularly important because we had five people in our party, including a two kids. We tried to order an item off of the kids menu and were told they don't serve it at dinner because, again, this is a wine bar, not a restaurant. Okay. We ordered beef, lamb and chicken shawarma, a chicken kebab plate, and the large plate of lamb chops. Then things got weird. The chef, the husband, came out with a plate of 3 small lamb chops. I had read a previous review mentioning that someone felt they'd been shorted on the portion size by the wife, so I very specifically asked him whether the plate was the small or large portion. Without hesitation, he said small. I told him we had ordered the large. He looked confused and said, "I can get you whatever you want." At this point, the wife came storming outside and insisted that it was a large portion. She then proceeded to show me photographs of the raw lamb chops placed on a cutting board on her phone as visual evidence of the weight of the meat. All while I was eating. I suggested she speak with the chef about it, at which point she very aggressively said: "HE'S MY HUSBAND!" And I said, "Well, I never denied that fact." I was no longer sure if I was at dinner, witnessing a marital dispute, or participating in an episode of reality television. The food, unfortunately, did not redeem the experience. It was terrible, even for a wine bar that insists it is not a restaurant. The vibes were completely unhinged. And, as if the evening hadn't already provided enough entertainment, at one point a baby fell down at the bar. Five stars for the experience if you enjoy chaos and confusion. One star for the food and hospitality. I still have no idea whether we ate at a restaurant or a wine bar. One thing is for sure, I'm not going back!

Wally's Cafe fits that description perfectly. You walk down a nondescript alley lined with flags to a simple counter, two tables outside, and the sound of the grill sizzling in the back. The first surprise was a complimentary lentil soup, garlicky and comforting, with little bits of rice running through it. But the beef shawarma wrap was easily the best part of the meal. The wrap came hot and toasted, packed with juicy pieces of beef with properly charred edges, tahini, tzatziki, onions and tomatoes. Dipped into the toum, every bite had that great combination of char, garlic, acidity, creaminess and freshness. I know a lot of people get Wally's to go, but I genuinely don't understand why. This is something to eat IMMIDIATELY, while the bread is still warm and the meat has just come off the grill. The chicken pomegranate wrap was good, but more similar to wraps I've had elsewhere and didn't have quite the same layering of flavors. Was hoping for more. And finally, complimentary baklava. Crispy, filled with pistachio and almond, and best of all, not soaked in sugar syrup. That's what I like about a real hole in the wall, a small menu, no distractions, and one thing good enough to make the whole trip worthwhile. At Wally's, it's the beef shawarma.
