Disappointed after being a consistent customer. The service was abysmal. Service stumbled out with my two soups in hand as if he were carrying a dog bowl. His fingers were on the lips of the bowl with the suit washing up and touching his fingertips. He stopped by to see How things were going after we've finished. My drink was empty for almost 20 minutes before anyone said a word, and it was another server. The french fries were quite tasty, but the beefs of lucky was a sloppy wet mess. While in Alameda on business I decided to try Troy Greek Cuisine via Uber Eats. I was hoping for some juicy chicken souvlaki after a long day, but what I got was subpar. When my order arrived, I quickly tried the chicken and it was quite dry- the sauce was my only savior. The chicken platter was served with pita, tomato/zucchini, yellow rice and their tzatziki. This is my favorite Troy. It's so nice and cozy. The staff is nice. It feels like a very mellow place where people are genuinely nice. The food was great. We ordered a large wrap and the Mezza platter. The falafels are the best I ever had, even better than the ones from their sister Troy in Martinez. Dominated in part by the large bar counter flanked by the open kitchen area, you'll find several small tables along the right side of the restaurant up front near the windows to enjoy your meal. Friendly service with a gentle caring smile and warm greetings and attention from our host. We were in the mood for just a little light lunch, so we ordered up the Athenian Chicken Salad and a big bowl of Avgolemono Soup and a side of Falafel balls. Service was fast. Within 8 minutes or so, our lunch was presented to us. The Athenian Chicken Salad was huge.. In it you'll find crunchy Romaine lettuce, chicken and feta tossed in a homemade balsamic vinaigrette dressing along with apples and a ton of walnuts for added flavor. It also comes with a couple of wedges of pita bread. Definitely worth it (5/5 in my book)! My partner had the Avgolemono Soup (chicken, rice, lemon) which was on point. The service is friendly, they offer a few local craft beers on tap, in addition to bottled Greek beer and you can catch the game on TV while you dine. I prefer their gyro meat to the chicken when I order a plate, but whatever you get don't forget to add their fries. They are seasoned before frying so you can eat these without ketchup. Whether Troy Greek Cuisine place is named ironically or after someone named Troy, I do not know. If it is an ironic joke, it makes a bit of sense, because it ain't that Greek. But TGC is not a bad spot for--shall we say?--Hellas-inspired food. Most of the typical fare is here: shwarma, souvlaki and gyros. They do have several lamb dishes (including kapama) and one halloumi appetizer (which I have not tried). I would have liked to have seen some more typical Greek dishes on the menu, like avgolemono, or dips like taramoussalata and skordalia. But that said, the ingredients here are generally very good. The prices are even better, considering the location on an increasingly upmarket Solano Avenue and the last several years of inflation. So, in terms of value for money, I was quite pleased with my meal. Where TGC lost points was in flavor. While good quality and competently prepared, the food was all a bit bland. I was given a couple of house-made sauces to zip up my meal, one rather tasteless and the other a bit spicy. I am not sure what they were; they were definitely not Greek and the waitress agreed that they were not (more to the point, she opted to not tell me their origins!). Even with the spicier of the two, it didn't add much to the taste. So, while I enjoyed my meal, it had very little wow factor. All that said, when I am in the neighborhood again, I will give it another go and bring some friends/family to get their take. As I say, it certainly is worth it. read more

Updated review: Dropped in on a busy Saturday for dinner and were offered a couple seats at the bar overlooking the kitchen. After a table cleared, we were asked if we'd prefer to move but we liked where we were. It was fascinating to watch, and the food was delicious as usual. My wife's 70th birthday happened at the end of January, 2026. We have eaten at Troy many times and always enjoyed the entire experience, so she decided to investigate Troy's catering options so there would be meat and vegetables options to suit all our guests' preferences, with the obvious bonus that all the choices would be equally appealing because Mediterranean food is awesome! Husam was our main contact and assisted us with making our choices, and Iris was very helpful in ensuring that our pickup time was adjusted to fit the busy schedule that we had on the morning of the party. She also confirmed our request for extra Red Chili and Jalapeno Garlic sauce. For those curious, the Red Chili sauce is the milder of the two, but both are savory and great on almost anything! Here is what we ordered, which was anticipated to feed 40 guests: 1 Full Tray of Moussaka 1 Full Tray of Pastitsio 2 Combo Appetizer Trays 1 Chicken Souvlaki 1 Beef Souvlaki 1 Lamb Souvlaki It was an immense amount of food, and it was all DELICIOUS. The souvlaki disappeared first, and both full trays of the Moussaka and Pastitsio received significant dents! The appetizer trays had large falafel balls that were thankfully cut in half, dolmas, a mountain of pita bread, and multiple pint containers, two each of hummus, baba ganoush, tzatziki, and the Red Chili and Jalapeno Garlic sauce. The pickup from Troy was a breeze, and we absolutely lucked out by getting a parking spot directly in front of the restaurant on Solano, which anyone who lives locally will tell you is no small feat on a Saturday morning! Husam kindly helped me carry everything out to our car. My one suggestion to anyone who is ordering catering, especially if you get a half or full tray of either the Moussaka and/or Pastitsio, bring a baking sheet to support each tray. While the trays are made from thick aluminum, the weight will make the bottom sag a little, and it will likely be too hot to support with your bare hands. All our guests raved about all the food, and we are still happily enjoying leftovers of everything for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a week and after! Came here after our favorite Greek place simply closed in November 2023. Ordered a gyro and a chicken souvlaki wrap. Both were just ok; the meats were a little on the dry side. The chicken was overcooked and dry, though the copious sauce load on the sandwich got close to covering it up. The gyro was just a bit weird. Long rectangular slabs of meat. The meat had a grainy texture. Like it was press-formed into its current shape from ground meat. Also, it wasn't really seasoned. The service seemed good, they packed things neatly and the veggies were definitely fresh and the sauces on point. I'd say if you can go in person, and maybe it's cheaper, then this would be a place to go to for Greek food. I don't think I'll order from them for delivery again. Mary and I met here for lunch today. I know Alan and I had eaten here several times since 2017 but I can't remember when I last ate in since 2020. I've done takeout several times since the start of the pandemic. The décor has changed, The collection of smaller photographs has been replaced by two large ones. I didn't recognize our server, but he was warm and friendly. I left home later than I had planned so I texted Mary that I was running late. I found parking right in front and walked in. Mary was seated against the east wall on the banquette and had already ordered a falafel wrap, as she didn't know how late I would be. She had water to drink. I ordered a small gyro and some of their delicious tea. I had thought about getting a cup of their avgelemono soup but wasn't that hungry. I sat down on the chair opposite Mary, who had received her falafel wrap. We had a good time talking and catching up and soon my gyro and tea were delivered. Mary had torn hers in half, intending to take one half home. We took turns talking so the one listening could eat, which worked out well. My gyro was delicious, as was the tea. As we talked Mary gradually ate the rest of her wrap and soon she had nothing to take home. There was never a question of leftovers for me, as this was my first meal of the day. I finished it all. Our server refilled my tea when he refilled Mary's water. When I needed to go to the bathroom I had trouble getting up because we had been sitting so long. I tried, but couldn't do it. Our server (I wish I had asked his name!) came over and asked if I needed help. I was about to reluctantly say yes when Mary said yes on my behalf and I assented, so he helped me up and my knees unlocked. I walked over to the restroom, leaving my credit card so we could pay. There was lovely tile around the bathroom walls that I don't remember from before, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there, as it's been a while. When I returned our server came over w/ the handheld point of sale device. As I paid Mary engaged him in conversation, asking if he was Iranian, volunteering that she was half Iranian. He said no, but close, that he was Jordanian, and that led to a lovely conversation about her visit w/ her late husband to Jordan and other Middle Eastern countries several decades ago and the differences in Jordan between then and now. This is a nice family restaurant to take your children, the staff are very friendly. The problem is, for the type of food and casual experience you get, it has become very overpriced. It is very basic food and yet it is comparable in pricing to places that have skilled chefs. They also claim that their Lipton tea is Greek tea which is false advertising. They almost never give you enough pita, and their food is often bland. It doesn't take a lot of effort or skill just to make sure that your rice and veggies are seasoned properly / have a little bit of oil and salt in it. Lamb souvlaki often overcooked. ***Grubhub Delivery Review*** I'm a huge fan of Troy Greek Cuisine! I used to frequent their old Rockridge location some years back when it was still in business. I was having a craving for Greek food and decided to order for delivery. I've never actually been inside of this location, but I had an excellent experience with the then through Grubhub. Ordered a large chicken shawarma wrap with garlic fries, and this meal was so damn delicious. First off, the prices are extremely reasonable here which I love. Secondly, the portions sizes are massive. For about $10, you can get a shawarma wrap that's the size of a giant burrito. It easily made two meals for me with the garlic fries. Speaking of garlic fries; they truly hooked it UP with all those damn fries! There was plenty of garlic and parmesan to go around. This is definitely a shareable side. The chicken shawarma wrap was absolutely mouthwatering! The chicken pieces were nice and tender and the wrap was so juicy and flavorful. It was stacked for the GAWDS, I tell you. No shortage of meat in this thang at all. None. Had no issues with the delivery through Grubhub at all. Everything arrived within the quoted time frames. I ordered a side of hummus for my wrap, and they didn't forget it. Oh yeah, and their hummus is addictive! It's so fresh and fragrant. My wife suggested we go to Solano Blvd in Albany/Berkeley and go to a restaurant that neither of us had been too. The challenge was to not check YELP 1st but to base the decision on the menu solely. The location is unassuming in an old building so it is long and narrow with high ceilings. That usually translates to a bit more interior noise than other places with an open kitchen. Clean but basic. Jackpot !!! The entire menu was GREEK dishes. Even serving Retsina Wine a Greek fav. Our server Gonzalo was very accommodating. All our special requests were welcomed. He was very pleasant. We ordered the Gyros Platter, and the Chicken Souvlaki. Being KETO they help the rice for us. The platters arrive with a smile. They were eye appealing and good sized portions. But the payload was the authentic seasoning on the meats and the Tzatziki dressing on the salad. And the roast veggies were perfect.
