    Green salad with falafel
    Stephen H.

Some vegan options. Had the impossible platter in the past and it was enjoyable. This trip, liked the lentil soup to start. Then Greek salad with no feta and side of 4 falafel. Falafel were decent size and not small pebbles. Crispy on outside and soft inside without being mushy. Added nice hefty to the salad. Usually there because of non vegan companion eater, so limited choices. Friendly service and effective though not very busy at early dinner hour.

While in Alameda on business I decided to try Troy Greek Cuisine via Uber Eats. I was hoping for some juicy chicken souvlaki after a long day, but what I got was subpar. When my order arrived, I quickly tried the chicken and it was quite dry- the sauce was my only savior. The chicken platter was served with pita, tomato/zucchini, yellow rice and their tzatziki. The star of the show was their falafel balls! They were packed with moisture and were flavorful! I won't be rushing back.

This is my favorite Troy. It's so nice and cozy. The staff is nice. It feels like a very mellow place where people are genuinely nice. The food was great. We ordered a large wrap and the Mezza platter. The falafels are the best I ever had, even better than the ones from their sister Troy in Martinez. The only issue is that the cheese and olives on the Mezza platter was insanely salty. In the future, I will avoid the Mezza platter for that reason.

Excellent Mediterranean Cuisine in a casual setting. Dominated in part by the large bar counter flanked by the open kitchen area, you'll find several small tables along the right side of the restaurant up front near the windows to enjoy your meal. Friendly service with a gentle caring smile and warm greetings and attention from our host. We were in the mood for just a little light lunch, so we ordered up the Athenian Chicken Salad and a big bowl of Avgolemono Soup and a side of Falafel balls. Service was fast. Within 8 minutes or so, our lunch was presented to us. The Athenian Chicken Salad was huge.. In it you'll find crunchy Romaine lettuce, chicken and feta tossed in a homemade balsamic vinaigrette dressing along with apples and a ton of walnuts for added flavor. It also comes with a couple of wedges of pita bread. Definitely worth it (5/5 in my book)! My partner had the Avgolemono Soup (chicken, rice, lemon) which was on point. (4/5) The Falafel balls were yummy too! (4.5/5). Their menu hits all the high notes for everyday Greek/Mediterranean Cuisine with Gyros, Souvlakis, Falafel, various Wraps, Kebabs and more. We definitely want to come back gain for the mains too next time.

Came in on a Saturday with my aunt upon her recommendation. It wasn't too crowded, which was a nice because it enabled the conversation without a lot of noise. Services good,. Although it took a little bit of time for the food to arrive it's clear that it's because they were taking their time to prepare each dish. Had Guro and Greek fries both were very good and walked away full

This is a nice quiet place to grab dinner on upper Solano Avenue if you like Greek food. The service is friendly, they offer a few local craft beers on tap, in addition to bottled Greek beer and you can catch the game on TV while you dine. I prefer their gyro meat to the chicken when I order a plate, but whatever you get don't forget to add their fries. They are seasoned before frying so you can eat these without ketchup. Their house-made red and green hot sauces are a nice addition to whatever you order as well.

Updated review: Dropped in on a busy Saturday for dinner and were offered a couple seats at the bar overlooking the kitchen. After a table cleared, we were asked if we'd prefer to move but we liked where we were. It was fascinating to watch, and the food was delicious as usual. I tried the lentil soup for the first time and told my husband to remember that's what I want the next time I'm sick. Delicious comfort in a bowl! As always, the Troy staff are so friendly.

I always wanted to try this place!!! It didn't disappoint! Like wow! The place was a little cold for a cloudy day... they leave the doors propped opened and no heaters inside, so those with elderly or small children may not fair well! The service was great. The staff is nice and friendly. The food... definitely worth the chilly seating for me!!! I love lamb kabobs, but these had a slight distinct flavor!!! Clean restrooms. Street parking,, or walk across the street for garage parking which is FREE!

Truly delicious Mediterranean Plate (about $18)

Troy Greek Cuisine isn't much to look at which makes the meal I enjoyed here all the more special. The vibe of the place is such that I'd ask if there even is one. It's simple and looks as though no thought went into it. Thought definitely goes into the food though and which would you rather have? My Mediterranean Plate (about $18), clearly prepared to order, proved so delicious that my desire is to return and order the same thing again. Chicken chunks were cooked with onions and presented along with a uniquely tasty hummus, a bountiful portion of yellow rice, and a cucumber/tomato mix. It was a lot of food but I could barely stop myself from consuming the whole thing. I liked that Troy did nothing to try and hurry me along despite the lunch crowd coming and going while I still sat, enjoying myself. If you don't need much ambiance for a thoroughly delicious plate of food, Troy is a great option.

Lovely lunch with friends here recently. First visit for me. So easy to walk to from different directions. Close to a lot of shopping. Busy Main Street so parking is a challenge at peek times but usually can find a spot after a few drive bys. Chicken Schwartz was fantastic! Just the right flavoring and the chicken juicy. Rice was fresh. Menu offers most things one would want. Great service. Quick food order to table. Staff friendly. Seating inside is good. Loved out front window table.

I have to admit the more Nick the Greek proliferates, the less I feel motivated to try it. That's because my previous experiences have been more middling than exceptional. What led me here was the convenience afforded me from the GrubHub app. I could pick up my order in less than 15 minutes and be on my bus on time. I ordered the $16.95 Prasini Salad with Chicken Gyro (Photo 7). The salad itself was refreshing enough consisting of romaine, scallions, dill, and crumbled feta with lemon zest dressing. The chicken gyro was unfortunately a bit greasy and overcooked. It didn't really enhance the salad. Instead of going for their signature Avgolemono Soup (which I've enjoyed), I probably made a mistake ordering the $5 Fries which had a similar consistency to the chicken (Photo 5). I'm impressed how Nick continues to pop up almost automatically in places with high foot traffic, but I'm hoping the speed of their growth is not compromising execution of their food. FOOD - 3 stars...the salad was good but the chicken and fries were lacking AMBIANCE - 3 stars...typical Nick decor, barely there for pickup SERVICE - 2.5 stars...transactional, no impression TOTAL - 3 stars...consistently middling RELATED - Exploring Berkeley? The restaurant is fairly small with probably about a half a dozen tables, etc. The owner was very polite, and thankfully very patient with us for a friends lunch. We originally had plans for another restaurant, but this location, etc. worked out. Everyone spent quite a bit of time catching up, and we were made to feel at home. I ordered a side of fries for a shareable at the table. I found the fries to be very underwhelming and needed more seasoning and considering that it's seven dollars for a side of fries the serving was pretty mediocre. I ordered the lamb/beef gyro plate. The side salad was very fresh and had a light vinaigrette dressing. I would have liked for the dressing to be more of an actual vinaigrette flavor. The rice was light and fluffy, but again, lacked seasoning/flavor. The side of yogurt sauce, was tasty, but did not hit the spot. Why? Because it really lacked the flavors. Notice a theme? I will say, the meat was tender, and it had a really nice flavor to it. It was delicious enough that it was very difficult to differentiate between a lamb flavor versus a beef flavor. It all tasted good together. The soft drinks are rather pricey. It was around $3.50 for a bottled Coke. Yikes! When we were done with our meal, we were served complementary hot tea. It was a nice touch.

I discovered "Cal Gyros Mediterranean Cuisine" on Uber Eats. My wife and I were in North Oakland,…read morenear Berkeley, and wanted food delivered for a late-night dinner. Cal Gyros was featured near the top of the app, under the section "Healthy options to explore," based on our location and what was open at the time (a Thursday at 10:09pm). We were hungry and the menu and pictures of the food looked good enough to me. I ordered the following for us (descriptions from menu): * Lamb and Beef Gyros Sandwich ($14.95) - slow-cooked, thin-sliced, marinated lamb and beef gyros * Chicken Gyros Sandwich ($14.95) - slow-cooked, thin-sliced, marinated chicken * Cacik Appetizer ($8.95) - homemade yogurt with diced cucumbers, oregano, fresh dill and a hint of garlic After the cost of food ($38.85), I paid a $6.97 service fee, $3.99 tax, $2.00 for California driver benefits, and a $7.62 tip. The $0.99 delivery fee was waived because of a promotion. The total cost was $59.43. Roughly a third of that was due to Uber Eats. There were multiple delays. It took about an hour for the food to be delivered. To get to us from Cal Gyros was an 11-minute drive under usual traffic. I think the delay was with the restaurant and not caused by the driver because I saw the driver had to wait at the restaurant for an extended period of time. I know the driver has nothing to do with Cal Gyros, the business, but I just want to mention here that he (Axel) was super nice when handing off the order to me outside. As for the food itself, it was disappointing. The sandwiches (wraps) were filling, but that was about it. The quality of the ingredients wasn't great, especially the pita. The pita for the wraps was thin, hard, and bland. At least they were grilled. The cacik also came with pita. There were five, maybe six, Kronos-brand pita triangles in a Kronos bag. I think that pita may have been grilled too; it was hard for me to tell. The lamb, beef, and chicken gyros were flavorful enough, but they were far from the best gyros I've had from many similar hole-in-the-wall joints over the years. The Chicken Gyros Sandwich was very watery and messy to eat. The Lamb and Beef Gyros Sandwich was definitely the better of the two. I don't remember the other ingredients inside the wraps except for lettuce and perhaps onion and tomato. The cacik was fine. Cacik is the Turkish version of Greek tzatziki. Cal Gyro's cacik was cold, creamy, and refreshing. It was noticeably stronger tasting and more sour than tzatziki. Cal Gyros is located at Durant Center, colloquially referred to as the "Asian Ghetto," just south of UC Berkeley's main campus and surrounded by many of the school's buildings. It's one of several small restaurants, most of which are Asian, located in a U-shaped building with communal outdoor picnic-table seating in the middle. Some of the restaurants have their own dedicated seating inside, including Cal Gyros. The storefront sign says: "Best California Gyros." This place is open until 2am daily, so that's a plus.

My stomach started hurting after eating it so I couldn't even finish the food I ordered. This is probably the worst restaurant I've tried in Berkeley so far. The lady was gracious enough to offer free salad as compensation for the long wait, but the wilted salad looked unappealing. I was worried that the salad would make me even more sick so I didn't touch it. For a restaurant charging $15 for a meal, it should at least be safe to eat. I'm very disappointed and definitely won't be coming back.
