I had an overall good experience during my recent takeout visit. We ordered the beet salad, lamb wrap, salmon kabob plate, and falafel plate. The staff was friendly, and the food itself was okay. I'd give it a three out of five The only concerning part was the tabbouleh that came with the falafel plate. It had a flavor that reminded me of raw fish, which stood out even more since I also ordered the salmon kabob plate. I didn't really care for the falafels either. On the positive side, the hummus was delicious, and everything else was pretty good.Overall, it's probably a 50/50 chance that I'd give this place another try, especially since I have other solid options for this type of cuisine. Rojbas Grill is a corner café on university Avenue in the heart of Berkeley. Let's just get this out of the way, parking is absolutely a challenge. The restaurant is fairly small with probably about a half a dozen tables, etc. The owner was very polite, and thankfully very patient with us for a friends lunch. We originally had plans for another restaurant, but this location, etc. worked out. Everyone spent quite a bit of time catching up, and we were made to feel at home. I ordered a side of fries for a shareable at the table. I found the fries to be very underwhelming and needed more seasoning and considering that it's seven dollars for a side of fries the serving was pretty mediocre. I ordered the lamb/beef gyro plate. The side salad was very fresh and had a light vinaigrette dressing. I would have liked for the dressing to be more of an actual vinaigrette flavor. The rice was light and fluffy, but again, lacked seasoning/flavor. The side of yogurt sauce, was tasty, but did not hit the spot. Why? Because it really lacked the flavors. Notice a theme? I will say, the meat was tender, and it had a really nice flavor to it. It was delicious enough that it was very difficult to differentiate between a lamb flavor versus a beef flavor. It all tasted good together. The soft drinks are rather pricey. It was around $3.50 for a bottled Coke. Yikes! When we were done with our meal, we were served complementary hot tea. Casual spot in Berkeley for some delicious Mediterranean food. My friend and I came by Saturday evening for dinner, and it wasn't too crowded at 7 pm. You can either try to find paid metered parking nearby, or there's free residential street parking if you're willing to walk a couple blocks. There's a Trader Joe's across the street, but not sure if they offer parking. It's a small space with 6-7 tables. The menu is straightforward with two pages of options. They have all the standard fare such as rice plates and wraps. I got one of the house specials - Alexander's Favorite - for $18.95. It comes with thinly sliced lamb and beef gyro with bread cubes in fresh tomato sauce. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this was really delicious. I really liked the crunchy bread cube bites mixed in with the gyro and rice, and the tomato sauce was super tasty. Portions were big too, I couldn't finish the dish and took the leftovers home. My friend got the chicken shish kabob with rice and salad for $17.95. I tried a bite and we both agreed it was solid. We ended the meal on a sweet note with some baklava for $5.95. We're both huge fans of baklava, and this was some of the best we've had in a long time. Would recommend getting it here! read more

For flavor and juiciness of the meats I give 3.5 stars. However, +0.5 star for complimentary tea and the basket of pita bread. I ordered at the counter and table seating is limited but no one was there near closing time. The staff is friendly and I didn't feel rushed. This small restaurant near campus serves some of the best Mediterranean food I've had! I recommend the hummus and babaganoush, which both taste great with the pita bread. The wraps are fantastic here, and the plates are just as good. We like the lamb and beef gyro wrap, the Adena kebab wrap, and the chicken gyros wrap. But you also have to try the lamb and beef gyro plate, the chicken gyro plate, the chicken shish kebab plate, and the Alexander's Favorite plate, which is a special. You can top it all off with one of their stellar desserts: the baklava, kunefe, or rice pudding. In my opinion, you should keep coming back until you've tried them all! I don't think you'll regret it! The service here is fantastic. The staff are so friendly that you can tell how much pride they take in sharing their delicious recipes with the community in Berkeley. The dining area is small but very pretty. With large windows that they sometimes cover and some very nice artwork, it's an appetizing and peaceful place to eat. Rojbas Grill is just Kobani Mediterranean Grill with a different name. Even the logos of the "two" restaurants are almost identical. Why did they rebrand? The inside looks a little bit nicer than it used to, but I gave this place plenty of tries, and the food still takes forever as a rule, and it is pretty bland. It's not that I wish ill on Rojbas Grill's owners, but I just don't understand how so many better restaurants--including so many better Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurants--with better locations in Downtown Berkeley failed while this place still does enough business to stick around. read more

Our go-to for Mediterranean food in Berkeley. Junior, the owner/chef, pours his heart into cooking for his customers, delivering home-style Kurdish recipes he learned from his father, a veteran chef. We usually start with house-made hummus and pita plus (off menu) sliced cucumber. Plus ginger tea and a smoothie (you ask for no sugar). The combo platter as gyro, chicken, and beef, and is enough for two people. At $27, the combo platter is a great deal. We will often finish with a baklava for dessert. read more

The knafeh had crispier phyllo than the one at Freekeh, which I liked, but there was less cheese inside for a satisfying cheese pull.
