    Lamb and Beef Gyros
    Audrey I.

Truly a no-frills Mediterranean restaurant: you order at the counter, receive your food in a little under 10 minutes, and chow down on pretty decent gyros. I had the lamb and gyros plate which also comes with white sauce, spicy sauce, rice, pita, and a side salad at a pretty decent price. It's pretty comparable to Halal Guys with the exception of the less generous and less flavorful portion of meat Cal Gyro dishes out.

Delishhh I really liked my gyro. I also really like the outdoor seating and how there are a lot of restaurants to pick from in the area, something for everyone in your group!

WHEN: 01-11-22 So this was an interesting experience. It was night time and I hadn't eaten all day. For some reason I was craving a gyro, and this was the first place I thought of. I came to the restaurant, and there was an incident that needed police attention right next to the restaurant! So when it was my turn to order, I was being interrupted by constant screaming. Luckily the staff was patient with me and the situation. But, definitely not the restaurant's fault! I ordered a lamb and beef gyro wrap and a can of Sprite. When I opened my wrap, it looked like a burrito! Burrito was okay, although a little cold. Some parts of the lamb and beef were tough and dry. Can of Sprite to wash it down was refreshing. Interesting day to say the least!

Kindest owner on the planet and best Mediterranean food in Berkeley. I typically eat here after big exercise days, for flavor and substantial protein rich meals. This place can be overlooked because of how deep it is in the food court, but I promise it's worth your time to give it a try. I strongly recommend the Kebab combo listed in the picture!!

The restaurant is fairly small with probably about a half a dozen tables, etc. The owner was very polite, and thankfully very patient with us for a friends lunch. We originally had plans for another restaurant, but this location, etc. worked out. Everyone spent quite a bit of time catching up, and we were made to feel at home. I ordered a side of fries for a shareable at the table. I found the fries to be very underwhelming and needed more seasoning and considering that it's seven dollars for a side of fries the serving was pretty mediocre. I ordered the lamb/beef gyro plate. The side salad was very fresh and had a light vinaigrette dressing. I would have liked for the dressing to be more of an actual vinaigrette flavor. The rice was light and fluffy, but again, lacked seasoning/flavor. The side of yogurt sauce, was tasty, but did not hit the spot. Why? Because it really lacked the flavors. Notice a theme? I will say, the meat was tender, and it had a really nice flavor to it. It was delicious enough that it was very difficult to differentiate between a lamb flavor versus a beef flavor. It all tasted good together. The soft drinks are rather pricey. It was around $3.50 for a bottled Coke. Yikes! When we were done with our meal, we were served complementary hot tea. It was a nice touch.

I got an assortment of Turkish delight and some pistachio baklava ($2.99). The Turkish delight is sold by weight across all the varieties and goes for $16.99/lb. The guy behind the counter was super friendly and offered us a sample of one of the flavors to try which I thought was a nice gesture. Everything looked so good, so we picked a couple different pieces of Turkish delight to try. To my surprise, my favorite ended up being the saffron, though rose petal with pomegranate and sour cherry with pastachio were close seconds. I didn't like the coconut or the chocolate one that much, so reminder to myself to skip those next time. After picking up the dessert, I did a quick circle around the store to see what they had. The café bartenders are always kind -- once they even let me use the bathroom before I realized the laundromat had one. I've ordered a beer while waiting for my clothes to dry and was welcomed to sit with my dog on the back patio. The atmosphere is warm and accommodating. The market itself is a treasure trove: shelves filled with Middle Eastern dry goods, nuts, dried fruits, spices, blends, and condiments you can't find anywhere else. Kofta, shish kebab, falafel, sumac, garam masala -- it's all here. They also carry pita, lavash, labna, and other breads and yogurts that make cooking from scratch feel like heaven. Bonus points for the large assortments of delicious house made baklavas! Even without a full kitchen, the prepared foods are excellent. I ordered falafel, eggplant dip, hummus, and cucumber salad from the to‑go counter -- a mini feast for $26 that didn't disappoint. **Verdict:** Courteous service, respectful staff, and a fantastic selection. Whether you're cooking at home or grabbing a bite, this place is a gem. Highly recommended.

We already knew what we wanted because we had looked at the menu online. We tried the lamb shank with the fava bean rice for 24. We also ordered the beef stew with added eggplant for about 17. The portion size of the stew was very small like a shallow small plate. This was not a cheap lunch for 44. Everything tasted fresh and had authentic flavor. Nothing was too salty or strong flavored. You have to order the stew if you want to have flavor with your rice. It was too bland otherwise for me. Like another yelper said, the water tasted straight out of the faucet. For these prices, they should really offer you a hot tea on the house. My husband enjoyed the lamb shank but I honestly thought it could be even more tender. Also the food was lukewarm. The plus side is that the food came out immediately because it was already pre-cooked. It's like eating buffet food. We will come back whenever we're in the area. This is pretty good Persian food.
