So since we're in the city of culture I wanted to fully delve myself and my new family into this beautiful establishment. (Long story short my son's girlfriend is half Afghanistani and half Cubana) (She's spicy and we love her ) (Amazing addition to the family) We came here in honor of her beautiful mixed culture, might I say... I LOVED IT!!! So first of all, I ordered a burrito (since it's my review the kids' orderes' don't matter) this burrito was the best thing I've ever put in my mouth and I've put a lot in there. The meat was so tender and tasteful and tubular and tummy exciting I have to know the recipe for my future grandkids . Second of all the service was divine and the server was cute and polite might I add. Third of all, I just loved the overall expierence and I definitely will be coming back. This was one of my favorite places to eat for a long while, ate there dozens of times. Their golden sauce is amazing. And all other ingredients, including their guac used to taste so good and fresh. Well, it went downhill in the past few months. Everything feels more stale, especially the guac. The guac was one of the best a long time ago. Now it often has dark strakes and tastes off. I was excited to try Afghan Burrito since that sounds pretty unique but ultimately it was extremely disappointing. I ordered in person for a to go order and there was no line, but ended up having to wait almost 40 minutes to get my burrito. I had to check at the window after 35 mins and they completely forgot to make it. Finally got my chicken and steak burrito and took it home only to find out there was no steak in the burrito.. So I paid extra for something I didn't get and had my time wasted. On top of that I left a tip after ordering even though I did a to go order. Hate to leave a negative review because the food actually tasted quite good but this was a terrible experience. read more

I have been wanting to try Afghan Burrito since undergrad and finally paid a visit recently! Lots of vegetarian options on the menu which I appreciated. You order at the window - we got one veggie burrito with pretty much all the toppings and it was ready within 10-15 minutes. Good amount of outdoor seating available Veggie Burrito (4/5): Generous portion size! I was stuffed after eating just a half. The sauces on the side gave the burrito a nice kick. That said, I would skip the nacho cheese next time as I felt like it overpowered the other flavors. More pico de gallo and sour cream would help make the burrito taste more fresh. We got normal rice so the burrito tasted more Mexican rather than Afghan Overall, the burrito was solid. Super yummy! The portion sizes are massive, like a afghani and Hispanic fusion the size of a chipotle burrito. I love finding halal places that are unique. I highly recommend getting their golden burrito, it's super flavorful and you'll enjoy every bite! The spot is cute too, definitely a nice place to go to with friends if you're fine with outdoor seating. They also have some indoor seating as well but you get a nice view of the sunset from outside. read more

My Afghan burrito filled me up! I was looking for a late night bite to have in East Bay with my friends since I hadn't eaten all day, and they recommended this spot. We ate our order inside their greenhouse-esque seating area- lots of beautiful fairy lights are adorned around the building to give it a cozy feel. I got the burrito with steak in it, and it was so savory and delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking about it... it definitely hit the spot for me. This is like a Chipotle with more spices and higher quantity AND quality. If you can't finish the entire thing, definitely take it to go! read more

BEWARE: i really don't like leaving bad reviews but the last two times we ordered, significant parts of our order were completely missing and Uber ended up having to refund us. We gave them another chance tonight and somehow it happened again. This time they left out the sauce/broth that the dish is specifically served with and meant to be eaten with. Not just some random condiment, it's basically part of the meal. I get that mistakes happen but 2 orders in a row is kind of ridiculous. It really just seems like nobody is checking the orders before they go out. Just completely unacceptable read more

The flavor was there, it didn't take long to wait for my food. however, I was severely underestimating how much meat would be in this burrito and how big it would be. I know that it's difficult to keep a restaurant open these days, but getting a burrito that's mostly rice for $18 was pretty disappointing. The fact that the burrito was also extremely short was also pretty distasteful. At least the sauces and the technique were pretty on point. read more

The food never disappoints here! Atmosphere is super nice for small and large settings, I always get their Crunchwrap and burrito bowls which are solid. Had Birria for the first time and they nailed it! Tender well spiced meat with generous portions! read more

Right next to my auto mechanic in Berkeley. Opens at 11 and I've usually dropped of my car to pick up anotger day before they open. Today I stuck around thinking car would be ready earlier. After drowning in coffee at another place most of the morning I tried this place being next door and when car is ready it's a short walk. I think I may have been here years ago just for a coffee or something. Today was first time I've had food. 2 steak tacos with everything including "hot" hot sauce. This includes their signature "golden sauce". Not sure what it is. Prolly has roots in Afghan culinary. No matter it is very good. Excellent tacos. I also had a Topo Chico mineral water since everything else had sugar. There is water. Covered outdoor seating is really nice and indoor seating when weather is yuck. Music is upbeat. Just finished listening to "Another One bites the Dust". I think Rockwell is on now. Other items looked great with a blend of Afghan and Mexican flavors unite for something deliciously different. Next time I bring a car in I'll try something different. Sugar free ice tea would be a plus. Staff is nice, vibe is relaxed, music is up there and food distinctively different goodness. read more

This place combines two unique fares, Mexican and Afghan. Their flagship item is the Afghan burrito, which is essentially Afghani elements stuffed inside a burrito. One thing I love about this place is that they use Halal chicken. That can be hard to find around the East Bay. I also like the flavors are light Middle Eastern as opposed to Spanish origins. I have 2 to 3 burritos per week, and this place is a nice change. read more

We ordered the Surf & Turf Burrito, Chicken Burrito, and Chicken Quesadillas. The food was good and came with chips. You can immediately tell it's not your typical "Mexican burrito" -- it definitely has a unique Mediterranean-Afghan flavor twist that makes it stand out. The bathroom is located in the back of the restaurant and was clean, and the kitchen area also looked neat and well-kept. Service was great! This review is for a delivery order-was my 2nd time eating at Afghan Burrito. This time I tried fried chicken burrito bowl. While I find the ingredients were fresh and delicious. I was expecting the fried chicken to be on top of the bowl, so I could w join the crunch of the chicken. The chicken was on top of the rice and under the guacamole and shredded cheese so it was soggy. Nevertheless the food was flavorful, but I think the location of the chicken would have made a big difference. Maybe I'll try again later... read more

It's delicious with generous portions and value. Food a bit oily and heavy in nature so be mindful . Veggie options available. Location was really clean with indoor and outdoor seating. Came by late night about 30 minutes before close on a Saturday night. A few people were eating inside but it was mostly empty. Parking was easy to find but I imagine during the day it's very difficult. Most of the people standing outside worked for delivery services like DoorDash. The cooks were busy and it took a few minutes for someone to take my order. I ordered the Crunchwrap with beef. It only took a few minutes to cook. It like bigger and better version of a Crunchwrap we all know from Taco Bell. I'm not sure anything was particularly Afghan about it but it was definitely worth the drive. read more

I had the Vegetarian Golden burrito and I was very impressed! It was a generous sized burrito and was well packed. The tortilla was perfectly tender with a light outer crunch. As I made my way through the burrito, different delicious flavors kept emerging. The cheese and rice base is where many burritos miss the mark, but theirs was spot on with flavor and texture. They are popular for good reason, so be prepared to be patient as the wait for your order can potentially be lengthy, but well worth the wait! Very friendly, and attentive staff, who were hustling! My friends and I enjoyed this stop-over on our drive from Sonoma back to the South Bay! We love fusion dishes so had to check it out. All 3 of us got golden burritos; one friend got it open faced Afghan style, while the other two got traditional rolled. All 3 were good. The gold sauce was mild, flavorful, and a little sweet, and the guac was perfect. My veggie burrito was solid, although it was very mild and definitely needed a bit more punch of flavor, which the red and green hot sauces helped deliver (they added a small amount of heat). All 3 of us enjoyed the hot chai, easily-available ice water in a dispenser, and the outdoor seating on a mildly warm afternoon. As an extra bonus, the bathrooms were clean and spacious. read more

Had this place bookmarked for awhile, but never got the chance to check it out until today! We ordered through DoorDash and I bet it would've tasted even better if we were to have ordered it in person and ate it there! We ordered the golden burrito and it was very filling and flavorful. I didn't know what to expect, but the fusion of different flavors went very well together. The burrito was not dry and felt "light" compared to a normal burrito. As in, I didn't feel bad about eating it all lol. I didn't though, because half was enough to get me full! They provided free chips on the side and two sauces, which complimented the burrito. Was searching for a Crunchwrap that was better than Taco Bell and this place came up. At the time, I was also wanted loaded fries so I got both. I got steak for the Crunchwrap and chicken for the loaded fries and both are amazing choices, especially with the added free toppings. I know that the fries themselves were fried well and crispy, however, when loaded with all the sauces, it's hard for the crispiness to stand out. The items also came with 2 sauces, one like a Thai chili on the sweeter side and the other was like a spicy-Afghani sauce and they both go so well with the food. I saw some seating outside and possibly some inside but I'm not too sure about the indoor seating. Staff is super friendly. Parking is street meter. You order outside their stand, and there is indoor, heated seating to the right. The seating area had a few tables and utensils with water in front for us to help ourselves. I ordered a Golden Burrito with chicken and steak, and omitted the rice to add all of their free toppings. The server was quick with our order and we were given our food at the tables in the seating area. The burrito was so juicy and loaded. Best Loaded Fries I've had in a while. That should really be all there is to say. I got mine as a large with Shrimp and Steak. Both meats were flavorful and tender. Think twice about getting their hot sauce on it though, because it really is SPICY! Everything was still yummy though. They finished the order fast. It looked like a popular spot. I saw a few people sitting at the tables and also waiting for pick up. Everything outside looked clean and peaceful. Back to the fries. They had this curry type of sauce on them as well and it was the most delicious flavor ever! Their special sauces are what earn them a five. One is a creamy tomato and spice blend, while the other is a sweet chili sauce (the good kind/brand, not that diluted stuff some places give out). I appreciate the extra quality and the creativity of the primary sauce. It added to the experience. I definitely recommend coming here. It was genuinely the best 18 bucks spent (I couldn't resist adding on the guacamole topping). I will definitely be back in the near future for a burrito or crunchwrap! read more

Been driving past this place for quite a while and thought it seemed like an unlikely combination but finally tried it and loved it! A different take on Mexican food. Burritos, taco, tostadas but with a different flavor profile. Delicious. Service is friendly. I wish the food came faster but I say the same thing about every great burrito place. It just takes a bit of time to prepare good food so shut up, sit down and it will be worth the wait. Have a Palestine soda and chill. Btw, this is a combination of outdoor seating and an inside are for when the weather is inclement. The whole place is clean, including the bathrooms. We've been there 4 times now. I have eaten here twice. The weight staff is friendly and courteous. They even bring your food out to you if you sit at one of their shady tables on the patio. The Afghan style burrito comes in a crisp flour tortilla. It's loaded with rice two types of beans, the meat of your choice and a salad on top. I got the guacamole and fajita vegetables added to my burrito for a yummy filling lunch. I'll definitely be back: so much better than most burritos I get. read more

Afghan Burrito will always have a special place in my heart because I first started coming here while pregnant and then continued to come here with baby in tow for a full circle moment. The family-owned feels, wonderful people and staff, the beautiful space (both indoor and outdoor), and the flavor explosions of this incredibly special food that is described "where traditional Afghan spices meet the boldness of Mexican cuisine"...seriously craving it right now as I type this! The Secret Golden Sauce I could literally have on anything and everything. My husband usually gets the Golden Burrito ~ you can get it rolled the traditional way or the Afghan way (fried tortilla, served open). This burrito is massive and packed with your choice of protein, beans, rice, shredded cheese, sour cream, lettuce, pico, golden sauce, and for no additional charge you can add hot sauce, nacho cheese, fajitas, corn, pickled veggies. I usually opt for the chicken burrito bowl, which is also such great value and portion size. A newer menu item we always split is the Golden Crunch Wrap with fried chicken...honestly, one of the best East Bay menu items. Don't sleep on this! I also noticed their menu now offers tacos, loaded fries and nachos, quesadillas, sides, and a kids menu. The Iced Karak Chai is also a game changer if you need an extra pep in your step..I mean there is truly nothing I don't absolutely love about this spot. Metered parking can be tricky on San Pablo Ave, but sometimes you hit the jackpot with open spots in front of the restaurant..those are the best days :) Ask for a variety of their additional sauces and lastly, you can now order ahead through the website or through the Yelp app for pickup pretty true to time.
