I think hands down my favorite spot currently in Berkeley. Afghan Burrito will always have a special place in my heart because I first started coming here while pregnant and then continued to come here with baby in tow for a full circle moment. The family-owned feels, wonderful people and staff, the beautiful space (both indoor and outdoor), and the flavor explosions of this incredibly special food that is described "where traditional Afghan spices meet the boldness of Mexican cuisine"...seriously craving it right now as I type this! The Secret Golden Sauce I could literally have on anything and everything. My husband usually gets the Golden Burrito ~ you can get it rolled the traditional way or the Afghan way (fried tortilla, served open). This burrito is massive and packed with your choice of protein, beans, rice, shredded cheese, sour cream, lettuce, pico, golden sauce, and for no additional charge you can add hot sauce, nacho cheese, fajitas, corn, pickled veggies. I usually opt for the chicken burrito bowl, which is also such great value and portion size. A newer menu item we always split is the Golden Crunch Wrap with fried chicken...honestly, one of the best East Bay menu items. Don't sleep on this! I also noticed their menu now offers tacos, loaded fries and nachos, quesadillas, sides, and a kids menu. The Iced Karak Chai is also a game changer if you need an extra pep in your step..I mean there is truly nothing I don't absolutely love about this spot. Metered parking can be tricky on San Pablo Ave, but sometimes you hit the jackpot with open spots in front of the restaurant..those are the best days :) Ask for a variety of their additional sauces and lastly, you can now order ahead through the website or through the Yelp app for pickup pretty true to time. So since we're in the city of culture I wanted to fully delve myself and my new family into this beautiful establishment. Amazing Afghan x Mexican fusion place near West Berkeley! I got their golden burrito with chicken and it was packed with flavor. The burrito itself was stuffed and I love the "golden sauce" they add to elevate the burrito. The burrito also came with additional sauces and chips, which were a great bonus. The staff was super friendly and the overall space is small but inviting. They also have many other cool items on the menu such as burrito bowls and crunchwraps! Been driving past this place for quite a while and thought it seemed like an unlikely combination but finally tried it and loved it! A different take on Mexican food. Burritos, taco, tostadas but with a different flavor profile. Delicious. Service is friendly. I wish the food came faster but I say the same thing about every great burrito place. It just takes a bit of time to prepare good food so shut up, sit down and it will be worth the wait. Have a Palestine soda and chill. This place has tasty food with good valued portions and lots of customization options. We all ordered burritos. There were about a dozen options to add to the burrito for the same price, including guacamole and sour cream, nacho cheese sauce and pickled jalapeños, and lettuce and pico de gallo. You could also add fries for a dollar extra. I wish that I ordered mine with fewer add-ons because I am not sure that I was able to taste the golden sauce very well. It had a light curry flavor and color. There was a lot of rice, but the rice was more moist and flavorful than at most places. Very unique fusion food restaurant that does NOT skimp out on the portion sizes and tastes amazing. Parking here is a bit difficult, but we were able to find some street parking around the corner. You order from a small window and there's either outdoor dining or there is a covered tent with TV's and dining tables inside. The covered dining is actually pretty nice as it's heated and there's outlets to charge your phone if need be. This was great since it was raining outside. When we went there were still some menu items coming soon, so they're still growing! We got the Golden Burrito combination with steak and chicken. -Inside, the burrito is filled with rice, black beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, cheese, Romaine lettuce, jalapeno, and fajitas. -It also came with a side of chips and sauce and some of their signature Golden Sauce to dip it with. The burrito was pretty dang big and enough to share between 2 people easily. Great distribution of ingredients inside without a skewed ratio. Nice, warm and moist. Not dry at all. My family found this spot so we decided to give it a try. it's honestly overhyped in my opinion. I had the golden burrito with grilled chicken which was decent and tasted good. The beef crunchwrap was beyond oily. The oil was just dripping through our fingers. I would suggest for them to do something about the beef crunchwrap so it's not dripping with oil. Still giving it a 4 star because staff was friendly. The regular fries were pretty good and crispy. They have small indoor seating and outside seating. I recently tried the loaded fries at Afghan Burritos, and they were absolutely fantastic, compared to all the loaded fries I've tried in the bay area the past 10 years! The fries were perfectly crispy and golden, providing the ideal base for the delicious toppings. However, when I got home to finish the rest of the fries, the fries were soggy, but nothing you can do about getting fries to-go. I'd highly recommend the loaded fries to eat for dine in while the fries are still fresh and crispy! The combination of melted cheese, savory meats, and fresh toppings created a mouthwatering experience that I couldn't get enough of. The unique blend of Afghan and Mexican flavors truly sets these loaded fries apart from any other I've tried. I got the surf and turf for my meats and there was a decent amount, I'd expect more based on other loaded fries I've had. Also, the shrimp are a bit on the smaller side, but good enough. They give you 2 tiny hot sauces on the side, which are wayyyyy too small for a Large loaded fries. The white hot sauce was amazing, but the red sauce that tasted like a sweet and spicy asian sauce DID NOT go well with the fries at all. I wish they would give more hot sauce to go! There are plenty of outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. The music is blasting pretty loudly for outdoor seating so might not be the best place to sit and talk. read more

The agua frescas are Nicaraguan-style - the Jamaica was so incredibly flavorful, almost spiced? Reminded me a bit of apple cider. Came here on the way back home randomly and found a gem! It was pretty late (all the outdoor seating was empty), but they were super nice and got my food out in 10 minutes. The seating outside seemed plentiful, and I like how the plants are arranged to separate the tables. I got the Golden Burrito with chicken, and the flavors melded together so perfectly. Even a 30 minute drive home didn't take away from the quality of the burrito at all. I did order it spicy but absolutely did not feel the heat (which was alright since the flavor was great). The chips were pretty good, and the side sauces were good as well though the sweet sauce was not to my taste (still solid!). This definitely is the densest burrito I have ever gotten -- it has HEFT. It's been a while since I've been to Afghan Burrito (maybe 6 months ish?). My fiancé and I used to love their golden sauce. Recently, however, we went back and tried their chicken rice bowl again. The golden sauce tasted completely different! It wasn't necessarily bad, but it was such a starkly different flavor profile that it threw us off. The menu also has a lot more items now, so I'm not sure if they perhaps had a change in ownership or it was just an off day? Otherwise, I don't know why the golden sauce is such a different flavor. We are big fans of the Burrito Bowl. Today for Iftar we got two of those and were very disappointed. The bowl was soggy, lathered with uneven amount of sauce, the tomatoes in the pico were cut up in humongous pieces. We could count the chicken in it and reeked of turmeric for some reason. Had to throw away the bowl maybe cause the owner wasn't there. I had the Afghan wrapped Burrito with Black beans and Shrimp with all the fixings. I was very pleasantly impressed with the combination of 2 cultures. My wife had the Burrito bowl with Shrimp the Afghan way the same ingredients except for adding Golden sauce and golden rice. It was even more flavorful than mine. The portion size was more than adequate and the price was right in line with plain burrito shop prices. We were greeted by Elia, who was an enthusiastic, energetic and friendly server. Very helpful to us in choosing since it was our first time here. I highly recommend Afghan Burrito. They have an indoor area for colder nights and a very large outdoor area with great ambiance. Customer service was amazing. There is plenty of seating spaces. When I was there. Everywhere was really clean, including the bathroom, so I ended up getting someone else's order by accident, which was a blessing in Disguise. LOL I got to try both the chicken and be honest. I really liked the golden chicken burrito. I've never seen this concept before, but it honestly makes a lot of sense. I would eat the golden sauce on chicken and rice, so why not put it in a burrito? The chicken is tender and the sauce is addicting, I have to stop myself from taking more bites after I'm full. The sweet chili sauce didn't really make sense to me, but the creamy sauce was really good with it. We also got steak nachos and I feel like with a couple tweaks it would be better. The cheese could be melted more and overall it could be hotter. The workers are always super friendly, even when they are super busy. I can sense the pride they take in their food. read more

Food is tasty and the portions are generous. We tried the chicken burrito, chicken quesadilla, and steak bowl. The meat and rice are well seasoned, and they do not skimp on the guacamole (add on for $2, which we found reasonable). We ordered online for pick up and food was ready within 15 minutes. Would probably call or order in person next time, as we asked for no rice in the burrito and it didn't seem like they got that part of the order. We will be coming back! read more
