This was my first time having lunch/brunch here and by all means it made it to the hot spot list. A friend and I were in Berkeley, and she suggested tacos. I had a really lovely unexpected dinner here after spin class. The instructor suggested this place and I was not disappointed. We ordered so many things and everyone enjoyed their meal. We started with the chips and guacamole and some drinks. I had a nice mezcal Paloma, my friend tried the smokey don Carlitos (which is delivered with much dramatic flair), and 2 others has the mango bourbon drink. For dinner I had the delicous fish tacos, others ordered the pooled, spicy tostaditas, nachos, chicken tacos,.... The food was fresh, hot, and delicous. You could taste the attention to detail in the food and the commitment to fresh and flavorful food. This was one of the best Mexican meals I've had in a long time. The ambiance was excellent also. I could tell that they just expanded into the space adjacent to the original restaurant and it was all very beautiful, clean, and elegant. I honestly felt a little scrubby in my workout clothes, but no one at the restaurant made me feel bad about my attire. This was an impromptu restaurant choice, so no one has time to go home and clean up. The service was also excellent. Emmanuel was our server and he was kind and attentive. Their layout also has great capacity for gatherings and networking events! The Enchiladas Verdes sold me! As a staple order of mine, their salsa verde is flavorful, tangy and hard to pull away from. I also loved their cilantro lime rice and beans, staples that round out a perfect meal. Staff was very attentive and squeezed us in during a busy Tuesday evening dinner window. Took our moms out for an early Mother's Day brunch on Saturday, May 9, and decided to try this place because the food looked authentic and incredibly appealing. My mother is Mexican and refuses to eat pretty much anything other than Mexican food (I'm trying to widen her palate little by little ), so this felt like the perfect spot. Camarones Al Ajo Cremoso was a February special. I ordered it earlier in February and we made a point to go back on February 28 to try it again. It was seriously a memorable meal. The sauce was a simple garlic creme sauce with a touch of lemon, cilantro , onions and chili, but was not hot. The shrimp with garlic sauce was served with baby carrots and green rice. I hope they will make this a staple on their menu. It could easily be their signature dish. Cafe de Olla -had a splash of milk added, but normally it comes black. The coffee had a nice sweetness and you don't need to add sugar. PIPIAN TACOS Rotisserie Chicken or Pork Shoulder, Oaxacan Brown Mole Sauce with Red Chiles, Onion-Jalapeño Curtido If you like spicy , you will love this dish. The meat was covered with a spicy chil sauce that was absolutely delicious, but HOT. Interestingly, the dish had a small bowl of mole sauce that was not spicy and was a delicious dipping sauce for the taco. However the person who ordered this dish said she would ask to see if she could order the rotisserie chicken without the spicy sauce. She asked did ask for sour cream to tone down the heat. Well as promised, we returned -- this time for brunch -- and I'm really glad we did. This quickly became one of our favorite brunch experiences in the area, and being so close to home is a huge bonus. On our first visit, I definitely overlooked a lot. Best mexican food in Berkeley/oakland that I've tried. Highly recommend their fish tacos.. my niece who have tried many in the East Bay and Chicago says it's the best she's ever had. Be aware however, like many restaurants in Berkeley/Oakland, it's located in an area with many car break ins, relatively speaking. So park within sight of the restaurant or in front of homes.. not in front of a vacant lot! We got broken into on San Pablo Ave/ University when my partner parked the car in front of a vacant lot only 20 feet from the edge of the restaurant's walls. They park behind your car.. so if you can park in front of someone so that they can't park behind you, the better. These crooks need stronger sentencing on car window break-ins. I ordered shrimp ceviche which was really fresh. I also ordered enchiladas verde. I was really impressed with the quality of the food and would come back just for that. Lastly, I got a hibiscus agua fresca which I did not like. It was too sweet and I was getting grains of sugar as I sipped the drink. Very disappointing experience at Mercado 925 today. I called just after 3 pm on a Friday to confirm if they had a Happy Hour, and the answer I got was yes, 3 - 5 pm. So we drove over, only to be told by the host that they don't have Happy Hour on Fridays. When I said we had a phone confirmation of Happy Hour today less than a half hour before, the host offered no apology for the misinformation, only restating no Happy Hour on Fridays. We are very annoyed at the bad customer service. We started with the guacamole and chips and chicken empanadas, both fantastic. The guacamole came with an extra spicy salsa that added the perfect kick. The nachos with guacamole were packed with flavor and had the perfect chip-to-cheese-to-bean (and everything else) ratio. Just delicious. We also ordered the carne asada tacos, which were generously filled with well-seasoned, perfectly cooked meat--never dry or overly salty. They're street-taco sized but come with doubled tortillas, and the verde sauce had just the right amount of tang.
