We were shopping nearby in Berkeley and needed a place to eat lunch. We found Mercado 925 based on the good reviews on Yelp. The food was consistent with what other Yelpers reported. We give it five stars. What we liked about Mercado 925 was that they had dishes that were different. It was more than just the standard Mexican food you find at other restaurants. We tried the Pipian Tacos ($19) which had a brown mole sauce with peppers. We couldn't decide between this one and the Mole Poblano Tacos ($19) which also had a mole based sauce. Our server was great. After we finished, he brought out a sample of the Mole Poblano sauce for us to try out. They were both good. They had three salad selections the day we were there. We tried the La Remolacha ($16), which had roasted beets and mango. It was a good salad. We also had the Quesabirria Red Tacos ($19). They were not bad. There are other places around that have really good quesabirria for a lot less money. If we were on a quest for quesabirria, we would go to one of those places instead. Our visit was on a Saturday around 2pm. The restaurant was not crowded at that time and we seated quickly. Service was good. There was street parking, not a dedicated lot. I have been to this restaurant a few times in the past couple of months. It is definitely a bit pricey as compared to your regular Mexican restaurant in the area but I would say you are paying this price not only for the incredible food but also the ambiance and higher end table service. The food totally lives up to the hype. Some of the best flavor combinations I have ever had here in Berkeley (Very high praise). The dos Mole dish is a must, both mole are rich and flavorful with one chocolatey and one savory. The tacos are also to die for, you really cannot go wrong with any of them but I recommend trying the fish tacos or mole tacos if you need to choose. I have had a beer and marg here and both were great, no complaints what so ever! They are pretty fast and always sure to check in on how you are enjoying your meal. Such a cute place, went here after work with my girls and it was so much fun! I set a reservation and so glad I did because it does get pretty busy. Very spacious and you really get privacy for your table. We started off with margaritas and chip and guac. So refreshing and the guac paired nicely with the home made crispy tortilla chips. We got the fish tacos as well as the carne asada. I forgot what my other friend ordered the name of it but we all left full and happy. This restaurant is absolutely beautiful! It's also very large. We made reservations for a party of fifteen and they put us at two gorgeous picnic tables that were side by side. There was a silent movie playing above the bar. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. The food came out quickly, and it was hot and delicious. This was my first time having lunch/brunch here and by all means it made it to the hot spot list. A friend and I were in Berkeley, and she suggested tacos. Of course, when I think of tacos, I don't think of Berkeley but I found Mercado 925. We shared an order of the Carne Asada Tacos and the beef barbacoa verde enchiladas. Delicious. Nice little spot on University heading towards 80 or 4th street. Parking is easy off the street. Service is prompt and stress free. Plates are a bit on the expensive side for Tacos but yummy. I had a really lovely unexpected dinner here after spin class. The instructor suggested this place and I was not disappointed. We ordered so many things and everyone enjoyed their meal. We started with the chips and guacamole and some drinks. I had a nice mezcal Paloma, my friend tried the smokey don Carlitos (which is delivered with much dramatic flair), and 2 others has the mango bourbon drink. For dinner I had the delicous fish tacos, others ordered the pooled, spicy tostaditas, nachos, chicken tacos,.... The food was fresh, hot, and delicous. You could taste the attention to detail in the food and the commitment to fresh and flavorful food. This was one of the best Mexican meals I've had in a long time. The ambiance was excellent also. I could tell that they just expanded into the space adjacent to the original restaurant and it was all very beautiful, clean, and elegant. I honestly felt a little scrubby in my workout clothes, but no one at the restaurant made me feel bad about my attire. This was an impromptu restaurant choice, so no one has time to go home and clean up. The service was also excellent. Emmanuel was our server and he was kind and attentive. Came here on a Friday night and it was fairly empty with no wait. The restaurant itself is very spacious, and the tables are nicely spaced out, making it feel more like an upscale Mexican restaurant. We ordered two sets of tacos along with the chips and guacamole. The food was decent, but nothing really stood out to us. My friend brought me while I was in town and Mercado 925 is a new favorite! The interior is beautifully laid out and aesthetically pleasing with ample seating and excellent decor. Their layout also has great capacity for gatherings and networking events! The Enchiladas Verdes sold me! As a staple order of mine, their salsa verde is flavorful, tangy and hard to pull away from. I also loved their cilantro lime rice and beans, staples that round out a perfect meal. Staff was very attentive and squeezed us in during a busy Tuesday evening dinner window. Took our moms out for an early Mother's Day brunch on Saturday, May 9, and decided to try this place because the food looked authentic and incredibly appealing. My mother is Mexican and refuses to eat pretty much anything other than Mexican food (I'm trying to widen her palate little by little ), so this felt like the perfect spot. Everything was absolutely delicious and full of authentic flavor. The octopus al pastor tacos were cooked to perfection, and my barbacoa was exploding with flavor. Fancy tacos! Stopped by w my husband on a Friday night. We had a reservation but there were plenty of tables. The space is really modern, clean and spacious. They sat us in the way back near large parties w their kids roaming the area as opposed to the grown up area in the front. Well as promised, we returned -- this time for brunch -- and I'm really glad we did. This quickly became one of our favorite brunch experiences in the area, and being so close to home is a huge bonus. On our first visit, I definitely overlooked a lot. The space is beautifully designed, especially the extended dining area, and the staff operates with an impressive level of efficiency and expertise. Everything just felt more noticeable this time around, in the best way. We also had the pleasure of chatting with who I believe was a manager, who was incredibly kind and helpful in answering our questions. On the taco trail today for Friday Funday with the man. We stopped by this place because it has been on my "To Try" list for several months. We are in search of a Baja fish taco that is satisfying since both of the places we loved either closed or stopped serving the baja style. We went to Mersea earlier for the views and to check out TI and it was uninspiring so we rambled back to the east bay and decided to try Mercado. Reviews looked good (thanks y'all, I appreciate you) and despite a few misses on the baja taco (according to some reviews) we decided to take a run at it. The man was feeling jaded after the am stop and wasn't going for the fish, I stayed neutral...no one wants their little taco loving heart broken twice in one day...ultimately, he decided to try the fish taco plate with 1 baja and one grilled. I had the poblano mole tacos w/chicken. We shared the guacamole with chips. I had cafe de olla (it is called something else here) and he had the mocktail with the ginger beer. The ordering at the counter wasn't my favorite but the spot was pretty quiet for a Friday midday and the service was still exceptional. They were attentive and responsive. I would definitely go back at the same time cuz I don't like crowds. On to the food. Dayum! Everything was good. Well seasoned, beautifully plated, and sufficient serving size. I pigged out. For real...I waddled out of that joint. Brought every drop of the leftovers home so I could have the chocolate custard (DAYUM) for dessert with the remnants of my coffee. Him: he preferred the baja style to the grilled fish. As some others have said, it can fall apart (really stuffed with goodness) but he didn't want his fixins on the side. VERDICT: he'll be back for that taco. Me: I enjoyed the mole but the chicken in chunks didn't work for me. I would have preferred it shredded. I ordered shrimp ceviche which was really fresh. I also ordered enchiladas verde. I was really impressed with the quality of the food and would come back just for that. Lastly, I got a hibiscus agua fresca which I did not like. It was too sweet and I was getting grains of sugar as I sipped the drink. I did stand at the front waiting for about 5 minutes before someone came by, there was a lot of empty tables. It would be nice to at least be addressed and told they'd be right with me shortly. We started with the guacamole and chips and chicken empanadas, both fantastic. The guacamole came with an extra spicy salsa that added the perfect kick. For mains, we had Carne Asada tacos, Carnitas tacos, and a verde enchilada. Every dish tasted incredibly fresh, and the meats were perfectly cooked.
