We just discovered this place after getting my haircut and we're glad we did! It's a nice little oasis on University Ave near 9th Avenue. Great atmosphere inside and wonderful friendly service. We were checked on several times by a couple of people. The pulled pork nachos were delicious and the chips stayed crisp to the end. Great flavor and spices that went perfect with our beer. This is now on our rotation and we will be returning! read more

If you're looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant, this is not the place for you. You can already tell by the presentation of the dishes. The dishes we ordered lacked a lot of taste - pretty sure this caters to folks with very mild taste buds. The birria quesadilla did not come with consomé? Also, we were waiting by the entrance to be seated, but none of the staff didn't seem alerted to seat us. At first I thought they were just busy, however, as soon as some other folks came in, the staff rushed to them and seated them right away. read more

First time here. Was thinking this was going to be another regular Mexican restaurant NOPE. This place is a hidden gem. The food was simple but delicious. The chicken in the empanadas was seasoned perfectly and the mole was sweet. The black bean were a little over done but in all it was delicious, fresh and you can smell the foods when walking in read more

Friendly service from being greeted , seated and throughout dining time. First time here. Seated immediately, no wait for a Friday night. The interiors are very nicely designed. Food is prepared and presented nicely. I had the pulled pork tacos. Pork was very juicy and salsa was spicy! The ordered of tacos came with 3 tacos, two were plenty as I had to pack the 3rd one to bring home. We also ordered a ceviche. Our server asked if we wanted medium or spicy, we asked for spicy but it wasn't that spicy. Our servicer was awesome, he answered all of our questions and was super friendly. I would come back here again and bring family and friends back next time. read more

The food here was absolutely delicious and our service was top notch. We came here expecting to order a burrito and unfortunately burritos are only for take out! Nonetheless, we had a great meal with al pastor, carne asada, and fish tacos! All the tacos were extremely juicy and well seasoned, but my favorite was definitely the fish tacos. The fish was a white fish that was plump and crispy with a good proportion of batter to fish ratio. The fish tacos came in two (vs 3 regularly), but we didn't mind--it was huge! We also ordered the nachos and quesadilla and those were delicious as well. The flan and chocolate mousse were also extremely yummy; both were the right amount of sweetness and were creamy! Great meal and I would definitely come back again! read more

We had the pleasure of visiting Mercado 935 while in Berkeley with our family from Orlando, Florida, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, and every plate arrived with a beautiful presentation that showed the care and creativity that goes into each dish. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared. The staff was welcoming, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. If you're looking for an exceptional dining experience in Berkeley, Mercado 935 is definitely worth a visit. We look forward to coming back the next time we're in California! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and unexpectedly ended up nearby last weekend at lunchtime. So I ran in to get a to go order of Baja fish tacos. Service was friendly and quick. And the tacos, including side of rice and beans were hot, fresh, and delicious!! Ambiance is really nice. I want to come back here with a big group of friends to taste more dishes and enjoy the vibes. read more

Great food great service great price. I called it in. I show up. I get my food. It was amazing.

Plain beans and rice means a plain burrito. Hot sauce was spicy and good. Tacos were better because it was just meat, but even then dry and not as flavorful as I would have liked. Stuff looks good. Just doesn't have the flavor punch on the burritos at all. Mole chicken burrito had some flavor but wasn't my speed. read more

Tacos was excellent, i recommend getting the salsa that' comes on the fish tacos to get it on the side because it does make the tacos a little to wet which makes the shell fall apart. Overall Drinks and food was a 100/100. Chef kiss read more

I came here really enjoyed my experience. Pretty special on the inside and I ordered a fish taco along with margaritas. Very good place. The staff is pretty friendly as well. Parking was easy to find when I came right around the corner. Highly recommend checking this out. It's a great place for gatherings or hanging out with a friend. It's a bit more casual for a date night, but still can be done. Overall, really enjoyed my experience. read more

Very disappointing experience at Mercado 925 today. I called just after 3 pm on a Friday to confirm if they had a Happy Hour, and the answer I got was yes, 3 - 5 pm. So we drove over, only to be told by the host that they don't have Happy Hour on Fridays. When I said we had a phone confirmation of Happy Hour today less than a half hour before, the host offered no apology for the misinformation, only restating no Happy Hour on Fridays. We are very annoyed at the bad customer service. Too bad, we have enjoyed their food in the past (in fact we were an early supporter of this business), but the reception we got this time was very disrespectful. Not OK! read more

Beautiful place. I absolutely loved the pozole rojito, which was on the list of specials. One of my dining partners had the enmoladas with mole poblano and really liked it. I tasted the mole and it was deliciously complex. My other partner had fish tacos and felt the tortilla shells were too greasy for her. I thought the chips that came with our chips-and-salsa order were unusually greasy as well. read more

Best service we've had at a restaurant post-Covid. And the food and drinks were amazing. And loved the lighting.

Usually I order a burrito with any variation of meat, often opting for guac as an addition, but today I felt like doing something different. Against my normal inclination, I placed an order for the veggie empanadas, with a side of plantanos. So glad I did. The empanadas were crispy, full of flavor and did not seem like they were lacking of substance. The dipping sauce paired marvelously. The plantanos were a complex, combustion of flavor, combining sweet and savory in every bite. Suffice it to say I was extremely satisfied with my lunch. Bravo, Mercado 925. read more

Best mexican food in Berkeley/oakland that I've tried. Highly recommend their fish tacos.. my niece who have tried many in the East Bay and Chicago says it's the best she's ever had. The service is also organized and professional. The interior is nice enough for a date night or to entertain out of town guests. Highly recommended. Be aware however, like many restaurants in Berkeley/Oakland, it's located in an area with many car break ins, relatively speaking. So park within sight of the restaurant or in front of homes.. not in front of a vacant lot! We got broken into on San Pablo Ave/ University when my partner parked the car in front of a vacant lot only 20 feet from the edge of the restaurant's walls. They park behind your car.. so if you can park in front of someone so that they can't park behind you, the better. These crooks need stronger sentencing on car window break-ins. There are hard working jobs in the service industry that pays $20 to $25/hr in Berkeley and Oakland! read more

This spot is serving extremely tasty and fresh eats in a really great, large space. I've had my eye on them since they opened as they have been consistently getting great reviews and the space is bright. I ended up on a taco Tuesday and ordered up a few tacos and a salad. The Al pastor taco may be one of the best tacos in Berkeley. It was juicy with fresh chunks of pineapple, served in that double tortilla ; it was the damn closest thing to perfection I've had in taco form in Berkeley. The fish taco was also a delicious taco specimen. The salad was tasty and extremely fresh and large (no bagged salad here), but simple. I added a side of chicken and they legit brought a side plate of a heaping portion of chicken. The space is great for groups - it's large. During the weekday it's counter service but evening is table service. There's a long bar, so a great spot to post up as well. This spot is delicious, reasonably priced and has a lot of potential. Big fan. read more

Wow wow wow!! Mercado 925 is now my favorite Mexican spot in Berkeley. Started with the ceviche Sonora and it was spot on fresh and delicious-- came with both fish and shrimp with a side of tortilla chips. Then got the carnitas tacos and the pepain mole tacos with chicken. Omgggg sooo good! Then ended with the chocolate pot de creme with walnuts. It was sooo good, it reminded me of petit pot. Yummm, dutch processed cocoa. read more

Mercado 925 was the destination of choice to celebrate my best friend's birthday. Mexican food is her favorite cuisine, so she chose this spot based on reviews and proximity to where we grew up together. Tasty food here, no doubt about it. Upon entering the restaurant, it gave off a modern, minimalistic, and casual vibe with the air flowing in, dark walls, and neighborhood charm. We were confused about the ordering process, we assumed we ordered at the counter but to our surprise, we were seated instead. There's a handful of tables plus outdoor dining and space at their bar. Service was very short staffed and with that, things took quite a long time to either come out or be helped. They also got my friend's order wrong so, keep that in mind. Me and my best friend loved tacos as kids and still do to this day! We ordered the Tacos del Mercado. I chose Al Pastor, Carnitas, and Pollo Asado al Horno as my three proteins. The al pastor was bite-sized pieces, not too sweet, and spicy. The carnitas was tender and juicy but I wish it was crispy! The pollo was tasty and spicy. Everything was seasoned nicely and the protein was overflowing. This is a nice spot but not on the cheaper end for tacos. For those living in the area, Mercado 925 is a good spot to dine at with flavorful tacos. I wouldn't mind coming back and am glad we got to celebrate my best friend's special day here! Located off the university, parking is residential and metered. read more

Modern and spacious decor. Attentive, efficient service. Guacamole and crunchy, dense chips were plentiful, as were the beef birria quesadillas. In fact, portion sizes were substantial. I enjoyed the chicken enchiladas verde, though I thought the chicken enchiladas were just a tad dry but the rice and refried beans were a nice complement. The cocktails were just the right amount of sweetness and kick of flavor, especially liked the cactus fruit cocktail. Ah, and the desserts were great-- particularly the smooth and chocolatey pot de creme and the lightly citrusy and sweet flan. Tip: get the Mexican mocha if you drink coffee! read more

LOVE! They are amazing margaritas, amazing food. Very homey like your grandma would make.

BEST FISH TACOS I HAVE HAD IN LIFE! Now, I came for a solo lunch and enjoyed the environment a lot. The waiters seemed to all work together which was really nice because you didn't have to wait for a specific server to be free. So, these tacos.... whew when I tell yo so so good! The meal came with two tacos which at first I was like that won't be enough BUT these are not your ordinary tacos my friends. The fish were big and fried to perfection ! Everything they put on that taco worked so well together. read more

So I'm torn about this neighborhood joint. I do like the oaxaca style asada burrito with spicy salsa, BUT I walked in a for a burrito and it took 30 mins to get to me. I understand from working in food service that it happens when you are busy, but I was checked in twice and it still taking 30 mins for a single burrito, makes it hard to give it a higher review. Yes, ordering in advance a little would be a better idea (as I saw 5 people get their takeout before me, not sure if they all orderedbefore me). Also maybe order in an off time, cause 30 mins is 3x the amount of time it takes my favorite taco truck. read more

Food was delicious. Service great atmosphere was pleasant. Will be going back again and again,

I'm going to have to downgrade a star, even though this is a terrific restaurant for omnivores. What's missing is a few clearly marked vegan items. The tacos are delicious and can be made vegan with tofu if you ask, but the menu doesn't specify that vegan options exist at all. As I've mentioned in other reviews, it would also be great if vegan dishes were priced a bit lower than the meat options. read more

The mole enchiladas are were really tasty here! Lots of good flavors but a little spicy. I like the inside of this restaurant a lot, if you can sit in the back section that would be my recommendation. Now we are talking for five stars. The staff is very friendly and check in on you often. The menu provides your typical options for a Mexican restaurant but...the food is damn good. It's very flavorful and you can taste the different ingredients, making it a wonderful dining experience. The focus is definitely on the flavor of what is served. The place itself is spacious for University Avenue. The cherry on top is their selection of additive free and popular tequila. Check it out. read more

We came for taco Tuesday! Had a delicious Tamarind margarita, guac and shops and 3 tacos - one taco with barbacoa, one with Al pastor and one with carnitas. Our group of 6 was seated promptly since we arrived for a very early dinner at 4 pm. The ambiance was nice and the smells of delicious food really invited us in. The chips were fresh and very crispy. We ordered guacamole and that was fresh as well, not from a bag. I had the Mole plate and was surprised by this giant serving of food. The mole had very good flavor and the tortillas were pretty good too. We had cafe con leche and flan for dessert and I have to say the flan was one of the best I have tasted. It had the subtle orange flavor in the caramel. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. read more
