Tacos birria - the consommé was tangy and rich.
Anne C.

Four of us dropped in on a Sunday early evening and scored a table right away. Drinks and dinner arrived quickly. Balanced an old school taco joint vibe with really good table service and some really solid Mexican food. This neighborhood standby really holds up!

Buffet

I've been passing by Los Moles for years and never stopped in until we had a graduation dinner there for my niece. The main reason I never went before was the parking situation, which honestly can be a little challenging, but for this visit we found parking down the block and around the corner. The short walk after dinner ended up being nice anyway. We had reservations, although we did wait about 15 extra minutes while another party finished their meal. My family member pointed out they were enjoying drinks, so that probably added some time. The waiter was very friendly, attentive, and clearly trying to get us seated as quickly as possible. Water was brought to the table right away, and our drink order was taken promptly. I ordered the chicken salad and was pleasantly surprised to learn the mango vinaigrette dressing did not contain oils, since I personally avoid seed oils. The salad was fresh and delicious. Some of my family members ordered the buffet, which looked incredible. At first it seemed like too much food for me that day, but once I saw everything included, I started thinking maybe I should have ordered it too since it was only about seven dollars more. They brought complimentary chips, guacamole, and salsa to the table, and everything was so flavorful. The guacamole was especially delicious, and they happily refilled the chips several times. I finally understood why the restaurant is called "Los Moles" because their mole sauces are outstanding. I got to try some from my son's plate, and it definitely made me want to come back and explore more of the different mole options. They also offer vegetarian choices, which is great. Although I am very particular about cooking surfaces, my food is cooked on and in, the Mexican coffee which was heated in some type of who knows what metal, had a good flavor. It inspired me to re-create it at home. Another standout for me was the freshly made corn tortillas served with the meals. They were soft, warm, and incredibly good. I also tried the beans, which were full of flavor. Overall, this restaurant really stood out in my memory, and I definitely want to return someday to try more moles.

$21+tt Mole Pipian: got the vegan version. Holy crap that was good. Full flavored and tons of umami.

Food was excellent. Service was fast and friendly. Offers bar , indoor and outdoor seating. Love the salsa music playing . Great vibes. I'm a mole fanatic so this is my haven. Didn't have ginger beer so no Moscow mule for me but I went with a lemon drop which paired great with my mango mole. Sweet and sour action happening. Well definitely come again .

The service was hospitable throughout the restaurant, from sit down to people picking up their orders. The food was flavorful and felt like I was eating mole in Mexico. I enjoyed being able to try different moles in one dish. I definitely will be coming back to try other ones!

Burrito Mojado

First time trying Los Moles and I really enjoyed the food! Most people were there for the buffet but there didn't seem to be a lot of veggie options, so we ordered from the menu. The drinks were strong, in the best way! Our waiter was very friendly and helped us decide on some options. It was pretty busy inside but the atmosphere was very fun and enjoyable. Would definitely go back!

Haven't tried the buffet but solid vegetarian burrito. I love all the options they have! Good and strong mezcal margarita as well. Service was good and the place was busy. Will definitely come again.

I've come here a few times and every time it gets better and better Their house tequila is by far top-tier The food never disappoints and always exceeds my expectations Their Saturday and Sunday brunch is one of the best in the Bay Area, serving both posole and Menudo The staff is extremely friendly and attentive to your needs The place overall is beautifully decorated and clean

Really great food definitely recommend the buffet.

Graduation Lunch at Los Mikes in Emeryville today, a Mexican restaurant that offers a selection of mole sauces. They had a great selection, and we all got something different. All the plates look great, from birria tacos, burritos, enchiladas with mole sauce, and fajitas. They served chicken, shredded beef, carnitas, and carne asada. I had the enchiladas with mole sauce. It had a lot of flavor, but i wasn't fond of the mole sauce. The service was very nice, but he was pretty busy with other tables. I was very hungry so I ate most of it, but it wouldn't be my first choice for Mexican food.

Weekend buffet
Chris W.

$25 for a weekend dinner buffet is hard to beat - plenty of mole and other meat and vegetarian options, including two types of soups. Flavors on the milder side but their hot salsa is very hot. Tortillas are heated on the spot for each table but very thick. Menudo soup is ok (with beef), but also lacking flavor. Rich comfort food, you will leave very full.

Mole Mama Elena with veggies

The service and ambiance was good when I went to order and pickup in the restaurant. The mole was good but it was taken away by how thick the tortilla was. The beans were fine but not great. They were lacking some of the flavor that I expect from Mexican food. Overall it was fine but I'm not going to go back due to the flavors.

Both the drink and food menus are well thought out. We asked for some advice when ordering and the server (owner?) was very kind, honest, and helpful. Everything we had was excellent! We tried some standard choices and unusual ones and it was all amazing. Best veggie pakora (flavor, texture, and sauce) in the area. The spices across the board were artfully dimensional and delicious, not just hot or overwhelming. The cocktails and mocktails were really nice- a little unusual (distinctive, but not weird). We started to see Shattuck 'wake back up' if you will, as most places close and reopen around 4:30-5:00pm. Tupper and Reed still stands tall above everyone else. I stopped in on a Saturday evening, feeling pretty mellow. After I arrived, a band started up that reminded me of the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack. You can't beat the ambiance, since this was an old music store, and the please is littered with antique record players and instruments. There are some negative reviews here about rude, more accurately, unresponsive bartenders, and I don't think they get what this place is all about. If you want a chatty, friendly bartender, go to an Irish pub. This place is all about creating unique concoctions in volume. Having said that, I'll tell you a story. In March 2019, I was with a chatty bartender here, since it was a quiet night. I was looking at the vast array of bottles, and noticed something that said "Buffalo Trace" but looked different from their usual bottle. I asked her what it was, and she didn't know. It had about three fingers left at the bottom, so she looked at me mischievously and said, "wanna finish it with me?" So we did. Turns out, that 375 ml bottle was worth about $300. It was one of their experimental batches, made with oats in 2002. I found a bottle online in England and got it shipped here. Best whiskey I've ever had.
