Staff were very kind and helpful. I had Campechana, a large seafood cocktail with lots of of shrimp, octopus, fresh avocado and cucumber. Really enjoyed it. My wife had a fish taco and a birria (roasted beef) taco. Fish taco was mostly lettuce and the beef was very dry ( large hunks, not shredded). I hope whoever prepares the meat can learn how to do it. Maybe they should visit Talavera, a mile away and try some of their meat dishes. We will go back and try some other plates. read more

Sol Taqueria is a neighborhood gem! Living nearby, I've passed by countless times yet never really noticed the place. Scrolling through Yelp, I found a companion who was intrigued, and we decided to check it out. First off, this is such a nice little restaurant. Aside from a couple of tables outside in the front, they have an extensive back patio. Lots of thought went into it! Plenty of tables outside for parties of varying sizes, a bar, and cute decor. Inside, there's also nice seating, a self-serve chips and salsa bar, self-serve water, and a cute atmosphere. Who doesn't love free chips and salsa! Also, a bonus for being super dog-friendly with kind and quick service. Companion and I both got our own dishes. You order and pay at the counter, and they bring it out to you. I had the Taco Plate with carnitas and al pastor as my protein. He got the Two-Item Combination plate with a chicken tamale and a birria enchilada. My tacos were good, the meat was flavorful and nicely cooked, and the tortillas were yum and didn't break. The rice and beans were just fine; I got mine without cheese. He enjoyed his combo plate, and the bite of his tamale was good. I also got a horchata which was okay, a bit grainy. For the price, portions were comparable! If you're in the neighborhood, Sol Taqueria is a must-visit for family dinners, hanging with friends, or a casual date. It's a very chill atmosphere with decent food and good service! It's such a nice touch and the salsas were fresh and flavorful. The horchata was also really good, definitely one of the highlights of the visit. This will probably become one of my go-to local restaurants. There is no shortage of Mexican cuisine in the area but WOW. My friend and I split two plates and each were amazing. We had never had "huarache" before. Went with "carnitas". Tender, juicy, and flavorful. 3 different sauces lined up. We also got a "Chile con queso" tamale. It wasn't a tamalito; it was a tamalon! I don't usually rate restaurants this low but I truly have nothing good to say about my experience. It took 45 minutes to get my food and there weren't even that many people when I went. I snacked on chips while I waited. They were stale, the pico de gallo tasted like spaghetti sauce, habanero salsa tasted like nothing at all and green sauce was so runny it couldn't stay on the chip. I got the huaraches dish. The ingredients were unseasoned. Look at the other reviews - a lot of them say the same. It wasn't very much food for the extremely high price. Order at the counter and pick a seat. We sat in the backyard area with the heaters. Self serve chips and salsa 10/10! The green salsa was probably the best one. Our food came out perfect and hot! Double miche was delicious and hit the spot. My mom got the milanesa torta, my sister got the super carne asada quesadilla, my boyfriend had the quesabirria tacos and I had the camarones a la diabla. My daughter and I tried this small Berkeley taqueria out and left out feeling really good. The young man taking order was very helpful and gave us exceptional service. He offered us free chips and salsa and fruit . The variety of salsa was obviously homemade and spicy to my liking. The rice and beans had an authentic Mexican taste. They are offering a 2 for 1 on breakfast burritos from 9-11am so I had to check them out. This deal applies to either a bacon, jamon, or chorizo burrito. I got the chorizo and bacon. Total was $13.78 with access to a sauce bar with other sides like picked jalapeños and carrots. There are also tortilla chips available so I'd say it's worth the deal. I would say the chorizo was better than the bacon, but the bacon had some good chunks of meat in there. It was tightly rolled, decent size, and with the other sides and sauces, it was fantastic. The green sauce is mild, the orange sauce has a little kick and the red sauce is the hottest which I did not try, but since the orange sauce wasn't too spicy, I might try it next time. Service is super friendly and answered all my questions regarding the sauces. The restaurant is clean and very neat. It has cool decorations on the walls. There are about 12-15ish seats inside. Really great food and decent prices. I loved their GIANT huarache with carne asada. It was piled high with good stuff: different types of salsa, crema, cilantro and onion, and LOTS OF ASADA. It was so huge that between myself and my spouse, it was enough to make us food-coma-waddle back to our car. We've also had a great experience bringing our friends there on a random Saturday afternoon for lunch. The servers are super friendly and helpful and keep the place looking clean and ready for customers, and the food was fresh and delicious! We needed a place for our kids first birthday celebration, so we decided to book Sol's patio. Best decision ever! The manager/owner was super communicative via email and helped set things up and catered to our needs the best they could. There was some miscommunication about the menu and what can be served, but that was easily cleared up and things worked out great. On the day of the event, the staff organized the food and drinks fabulously and kept on top of refilling the water and chips/salsas. Our family and friends raved about how good the food was and how nice it was to be outside. Parking was also easy around there, which is a plus for a Saturday. I really appreciate Sol Taqueria! As a die hard San Diego Mexican food elitist, this is by far some of the best bay area Mexican food I have had in the past 20 years. It's so low key and mellow and unassuming, but the food is amazing. Salsa is fresh and delicious. Chips are crisp and modelos are cold. It's easy to miss with such a small storefront but it's on San Pablo directly across the street from REI in Berkeley. This is quickly becoming my favorite taqueria. I've only been here for lunch but I keep coming back. Very tasty and very affordable. They even have a salsa bar along with free chips. I'm a big salsa fan and hate it when I ask for extra salsa at some taquerias and the person looks at me like I just asked for a kidney. A couple good sized tacos with rice and beans is 10.95. The carnitas were flavorful and juicy even though they obviously crisp it up on the plancha prior to serving. Pastor and asada were tasty too. Perfect Mexican rice and the beans are tasty enough to eat an entire bowl on their own. There are lunch specials too. Outside patio with both sun and shade is a huge bonus. Ordered a torta and tacos. Both were piles of cold, inedible mushy slop. The untoasted half loaf of bread for the torta was barely filled with any meat, fell apart immediately and was just a pile of mush. The tortillas for the tacos were those big, cheap white corn tortillas and weren't even cooked all the way. The carne asada in the tacos was gray and sad.
