You walk up to place your order. This was our second time here because we were looking for a place where we could get a good meal quickly. We ordered fish taco, carnitas taco, two lengua tacos, a shredded beef enchilada, and a beef and chicken enchilada. We also ordered chips with guacamole and salsa. I personally had the fish taco and the carnitas taco. I loved the carnitas taco , it was absolutely delicious. The meat was tender and perfectly seasoned. The fish taco was good as well, but next time I would prefer it on a hard shell instead of a soft shell. My dad had the lengua tacos and said the lengua was very tender and flavorful. He said he would definitely order them again. My husband really enjoyed his enchiladas and thought they were very good. We also ordered wine with our meal, and our food came out right away. Overall, if you're looking for a place with good food that's reasonably priced and served quickly, this is a great spot. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth giving it a try.

This place is so adorable and beautiful inside with bright pink colors The staff is incredibly kind, friendly, and makes great recommendations The food is absolutely delicious and it is very cool that they have small bites so you can try a bit of everything

    Tuna ceviche
    Tai D.

One of my favorite places to eat when in Berkeley especially on 4th street. This visit was lunchtime. I ordered the tuna ceviche in a red sauce. It was tasty and they gave me plenty of chips. My partner ordered the tamales Verduro, a favorite of ours. They have the best vegetarian Mexican fare as well as meats and fish. Check out their menu to see what they have seasonal. There is usually a short line to order. The counter folks are very kind and happy yo help with any questions. You order and get a place card do they know where to bring your food. Also you can order from the QR code on it. The current place was once occupied by the Cafe Rouge (sigh) l miss you!! But Tacubaya is cheerful and has a nice and casual atmosphere. Try it next time you're in the neighborhood.

    Corn & Zucchini Taco

Tldr: best zucchini taco I've tasted but other tacos not as impressive We stopped by for Sunday dinner and got a corn & zucchini taco, pescado taco (fish), and lengua taco (beef tongue). We meant to order the tortilla soup but I think there may have been a miscommunication when ordering and we ended up with something else that we think is sopa de chorizo. The zucchini taco had a really nice balance of flavors and all the elements in it were well done, which enhanced the flavor. I haven't seen zucchini tacos in other places but for now this place definitely takes the cake. On the other hand, the pescado and lengua taco were pretty ordinary and not as flavorful. The fried fish wasn't very crunch either so it lacked texture-wise as well. The sopa was seasoned well but the bready part underneath felt a little hard. Overall, I think we'd come back for the zucchini taco and maybe to try other items but we've probably had better tacos in other places. Definitely more of a fun, lively family-friendly vibe with younger kiddo customers!

I really enjoy going to Tacubaya on Fourth Street. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed. Bright colors, casual seating, and a lively vibe make it a great spot to grab a bite after walking around Berkeley. I've tried a few different items here, and the tacos stand out most for me: they're flavorful and well-made without feeling heavy. The service has always been friendly and the food comes out reasonably fast. I also like that there are vegetarian options and some unique items you don't see at every taqueria. I keep coming back because it hits the right balance of quality and casual Mexican fare. Definitely worth checking out if you want a solid, laid-back place for tacos and other classics in Berkeley.

First, I want to note that most of the items we ordered were seasonal, so they may not be available or reflect everyone's experience. We started with the spiced hot chocolate, which was delicioso, a perfect treat for cold weather. It normally comes with whipped cream, but we had it removed and opted for plant-based milk. They also offer a fully vegan version. Both the vegan and non-vegan hot chocolates were delicious. I ordered the pozole. It was okay, though I'll admit I'm very picky. My mom's pozole is always at the top of my list, but this one definitely satisfied the craving. We also tried the tostadas. One was vegan and very filling; my partner thought it was awesome. I can't comment on the mole since my friend ordered it and I forgot to ask for their thoughts. Overall, we loved the space; it's very colorful and vibrant. The service was great, and they use an "order first, then sit" system, but they still bring the food to your table. Tacubaya is also connected to Doña, another restaurant we really love, which was a nice bonus.

I had a sope with chorizo and potatoes. It was delicious and topped with lightly spicy pickled veg. It wasn't huge but made an excellent snack. Also the margarita with mezcal was great!

I came here today for lunch before going to Sur La Table to go shopping. My crunchy chicken taco had very dry chicken. I wish they put more salsa in it. The chicken was pretty bland and overly fried on the edges. My hubby enjoyed his Al Pastor sandwich and there was a lot of avocado in it. It's like a panini sandwich with tender pork. The beans and rice was good but nothing special. Service was good and it was very quick. This is a very busy location with lots of children. There's a balcony where a toddler was throwing things over and screaming the whole time. I'll try to come back on weekdays during work hours to avoid loud children throwing things. Otherwise, it's a nice ambiance.

2 soups, 2 small tacos, CHIPS & QUACK FOR $15 and a drink $70, folks!!! I couldn't believe my eyes, 15 bucks for guacamole and a few chips!!! 15 bucks! Definitely NOT coming back, not to this place. We don't print money at home...

    Asada Taco
    Desiree Ann Z.

Service was friendly, but food was just alright. I was hoping they would have birria tacos but they didn't have it on their menu, so I got asada tacos. I wished their lime was juicier and I feel like I would've enjoyed it more lol, but my mom said the chicken in her tacos were dry and she didn't enjoy it or even finish the rest of her taco. Honestly the ambiance was nice and welcoming, with lots of indoor seating (upstairs and ground floor), as well as outdoor seating. Would I come back? Hmm maybe.. if they add birria tacos to their menu haha but overall it was just okay.

We were immediately greeted by Ricardo who promptly took our order and gave us great recommendations for appetizers and entrees. I wanted to order everything and all the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked amazing and so fresh. The service was excellent and our food came out quickly. Ricardo even checked up on us to see how everything was. The restaurant (including the bathroom) was very clean. We sat at the bar and they have a great selection of beverages (alcoholic and nonalcoholic). We WILL come here again and I highly recommend this restaurant. It's a cute place very vibrant and has been open for 22 years! Can't wait to come back

    Papa con crema.
    Bellea M.

It has been a few years since I've been to Tacubaya. We ordered a couple of items we had ordered in the past so of course, we had expectations. Maybe my tastebuds have changed, but my all time favorite, papas con crema was not what I remembered. It was still tasty, but not the same. Maybe the recipe was changed to reflect current tastes of whoever is making it now. The quesadillas en nogada - interesting choice to use toasted pecans instead of walnuts. The pecans were a bit too strong, I prefer the flavour of walnuts. Color me old school! It was nice to visit again. Service was friendly and pleasant. The room was on the quiet side, 6:30ish on a Monday evening. Would like to come back for breakfast, see how that goes.

I finally decided to go inside and think I went a little crazy with ordering.. As you get inside, there are 2 kiosks that you can order on and the ordering process is pretty simple. I got all my food to-go and the wait was about 10 mins or less, so pretty quick! The service was awesome as well! The guy saw me struggling trying to carry all the food, drinks, and my IPad (I got stuff from the gas station prior) and he offered to help and put my drinks in this holder. I ordered the Tiger brown sugar milk tea w/ boba pearls, Hot Cheetos Half N Half corn dog (comes with choice of dipping, I got mustard), 8 piece fried dumplings (comes with soy sauce), fruity pebbles mochi donut, and the strawberry and banana nutella croffle. The milk tea was super good, could never go wrong with a brown sugar milk tea! The hot Cheetos corn dog was crispy and super good as well, however I wish I had eaten it when it was still hot to get that cheese pull... the fried dumplings were crispy and delicious. The fruity pebbles mochi donut was really soft and chewy (in a good way) and had the flavor of a glazed donut. Also the cereal tasted fresh! The strawberry/ banana Nutella croffle was so delicious and tasted like a strawberry/ banana waffle. I think this one had to be my fave. Overall, I paid a little under $40 with tip for all the food and I would definitely go again!

Their sandwiches are probably what first got me hooked. The bread is so good, with a chewy inside and a nice crust, and the fillings are always fresh and flavorful. The combinations are also really well thought out. From there, I started working my way through the rest of the menu. I've had their Kouign Amann, Quiche Lorraine, croissants, baguette, Sourdough Batard, Sunflower Rye Spelt, pretzel buns (you can probably tell I'm a bread person), pies, seasonal radicchio salad, and passionfruit madeleines. Their seasonal radicchio salad has actually become one of my favorites to take to work for lunch. I also love that they rotate the Kouign Amann flavors, so there's usually something new to try whenever I stop by. I've enjoyed almost everything I've had here. One pie was a little too sweet for me personally, but that's really the only thing that comes to mind. I also really like the presentation and the atmosphere. The pastry case always looks beautiful and tempting, and the space feels relaxed and welcoming. It's easy to pop in and grab something, but it's also a nice place to meet friends for coffee and something sweet. The prices feel very reasonable for the quality, which is another reason I keep coming back. More than anything, I just really enjoy having Starter Bakery in the area. It's become one of my neighborhood go-to spots, and I always seem to find another reason to stop by.

The ambiance is wonderful - I absolutely love the deep blue color scheme, the cute matching mugs, and gorgeous plants. They have a lot of different pastry choices, but unfortunately, there was only one vegan option: a tiny hazelnut sweet bread. I ordered the bread along with an Americano. When I tried to take the pastry out of the package to share it with my girlfriend, it completely crumbled into a big mess. I went up to the counter to let them know, and the employee told me it was actually meant to be eaten straight from the package. She mentioned it was on the drier side being vegan, she took the crumbled mess and gave me a new one but it ended up having the exact same issue. It wasnt dry, but it just wouldn't hold any moisture and was far too crumbly to eat. For $5, this tiny pastry was a major letdown. To make the interaction weirder, she took the original crumbled bread back from me and I'm only assuming threw it away, which felt entirely unnecessary. Having been vegan for nine years, I've had some truly amazing, moist vegan baked goods, so this was incredibly disappointing. While the vibe and aesthetic are great, the vegan options were major letdown. CC accepted Restroom available

Thus my journey with Walter began. One thing about me, is I respect a place that knows flavors. I don't want basic vanilla, give me some weird and strange and flavorful that will tantalize my palette and ignite my senses. Give me salty and sweet. Give me TANG. Give me these things and DONT give me gas. Bad Walters cracked the code. All flavor, real dairy, no lactose, no gas. Each week they have a different batch of flavors, so there's always something new to explore. There's like 6 flavors to choose from at once and they let me try them all before I selected my choice hehe.
