    Garlic fries
    Dani K.

For a second I was thinking maybe this is better in person but I see the reviews are mixed and in person people are experiencing the same things I did as a delivered order. The loaded fries were super old tasting and very dry and stale and the raw garlic did not taste fresh. The gyro was loaded with onion and the meat was dry and the pita tasted old but I refuse to waste food. I was told it tasted better last time it was ordered by my friend so maybe this was just a bad day where food was sitting for too long but I'm not going to be trying this again. There's a spot on the corner of Hearst and Euclid that is so good and the staff are extremely friendly. I will make the trek and go there.

This review is based on a pick up order for a catered lunch. We placed an order from Nick the Greek, it included: rice, pita bread, Greek salad, chicken, falafel, tzatziki sauce and Greek salad dressing. We placed an order to feed 18 people and the the servings were hearty. Everyone really enjoyed the food and we would definitely order from them again. For our order with tax and tip it cost $431.

Love this spot! The group with chocolate is my absolute favorite dessert. The gyro bowls are tasty and filling as well.

My husband was working at a jobsite on Bancroft and would tell me me how good this place is and as a blue collar that says something cause he is meat and potatoes kind of guy This is more my thing so when I had a job walk there I definitely had to try and man was it GOOD! got the gyro bowl and it was so dam tasty! Had the lamb/beef yet it was so light and refreshing with the cucumber, red onion, delicious sauce that truly took my time eating it at my desk when I got back to work. Wish I had this place in Lodi cause I would be there everyday

The lady at the front is very nice and helpful! However I am just really disappointed that I am spending this much on a gyro for literally 6x fries. At first they forgot the fries on the first order, I went back and when I checked it I saw it, but starting to eat, and there is literally only 6x fries on the whole gyro! I try not to be petty on things like this, but 6x fries on a gyro, for $15 is actually crazy! This is literally my LAST time spending my money there! Please count the fries on the gyro.. literally only 6x!

The Greek yogurt with honey, and baklava is amazing, also they have abundance of options, their menu and super affordable!!

One of the monthly benefits AMEX Platinum card holders receive is a $15 Uber Eats credit. I was scrolling through the deals section in the Uber Eats app and found that Nick The Greek had a BOGO offer on their Gyro Bowl. Two bowls for only a few dollars after the $15 credit is applied is an absolute steal. After I placed my order, I was told my order would take between 30 - 40 minutes to fulfill. However, by the time I arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes later, the food was ready on the counter. The gyro bowl itself is fantastic. The slices of lamb/beef are tender, nicely seasoned, and you receive a very generous portion. I like the option to have the sauces on the side. The yogurt-based white sauce goes well with everything in the bowl, from the fresh lettuce greens to the yellow rice. Make sure you dig deep to the bottom of the bowl to get the rice, otherwise, you might mistaken your order for a salad bowl. Overall, Nick the Greek exceeded my expectations for something available on Uber Eats. Definitely would recommend taking advantage of this deal while its around.

    Steak bowl

First I'd like to start by saying I was genuinely excited to get this food at first. I wanted good mediterranean food, and that's not what I got here. The flavor for everything was really off. Tasted more like a mex-tex seasoning instead. I got their advertised steak bowl, while my friend got a chicken one, and we shared a fries. The portion size for the fries was good, but everything else wasn't. The steak bowl itself had barely any pieces of steak in it, I felt compelled to ask for a refund because it felt borderline offensive. I paid 15+ for a STEAK bowl with only a couple pieces of steak ?? they're already a bar behind even Chipotle on this matter. Truthfully, the only thing my friend and I got close to finishing were the loaded fries, the only semi-close thing to being redeemable. The worker that attended us in front, this slightly older hispanic woman (and I mention this because the cook in the back asked her what's wrong in Spanish, after she looked annoyed over issuing the refund, but I could tell she didn't want to say anything in case I also spoke Spanish). Odd. The ambiance was quiet and semi clean. No customers were in there when we came but a few came after. It was a weird shop. Wouldn't come back here again. A redeeming quality was their spicy sauce and another one they had that I forgot the name of.

The thinnest possible layer of rice

Is there some sort of rice shortage going on at this location? Last time we ordered there was barely any rice in the bowl so this time we ordered a whole separate side in order to get full and they gave us this sad excuse. The box is about 1/4 full. About 5 bites full for $5. Cant understand the stinginess smh.

Not sure if they were having a bad day, and we came on the wrong night, but that should not be any excuse. I use to frequent their old location, and have yet to go back since they moved. First attempt at the new location, I tried to come with 2 girl friends for an early lunch on a Monday at 11am. Their hours say they open at 10:30am, but it was 11:20am, and their doors were locked and the people inside said they were closed. Second attempt was on a Sunday evening at 6pm. We were 2 families totaling 8 people. We told the hostess/server our party size, and almost immediately, she did not seem too happy about it. That is when the attitude began. We looked around, and noticed that there were about 2 or 3 other tables of 2-3 people dining, so it was not like they were busy. We were really taken back by her reaction and tone, which made us worry about the service the rest of the night. We got seated, looked at the menu, and let her know we were ready to order. We were curious and had a few quick questions, such as which is popular and which type of meat comes in the plate (because it did not specify), but her responses were very rude. She even tried to give an attitude saying we could not change what comes on the plate, when in fact we were just adding to the order. She was just so quick to try to find a problem to speak on that she did not realize it was an addition. I started to get upset. I truly tried to keep my calm, but it was really hard with the way she was speaking. Food took pretty long to come out even though they were not busy. Good thing we were not in a rush. We noticed that the people next to us ordered before us, but our food came out first, so we felt bad. Then when their food did come out, I believe something was wrong, so they had to wait a little more. Although the food was decent, the service ruined the entire experience. For that reason, I would not go back.

The Samakeh (fish) was our least favorite--pretty bland and not very memorable. One thing I noticed was that the carb-to-protein portion felt a bit heavy. I discovered "Cal Gyros Mediterranean Cuisine" on Uber Eats. My wife and I were in North Oakland,…read morenear Berkeley, and wanted food delivered for a late-night dinner. Cal Gyros was featured near the top of the app, under the section "Healthy options to explore," based on our location and what was open at the time (a Thursday at 10:09pm). We were hungry and the menu and pictures of the food looked good enough to me. I ordered the following for us (descriptions from menu): * Lamb and Beef Gyros Sandwich ($14.95) - slow-cooked, thin-sliced, marinated lamb and beef gyros * Chicken Gyros Sandwich ($14.95) - slow-cooked, thin-sliced, marinated chicken * Cacik Appetizer ($8.95) - homemade yogurt with diced cucumbers, oregano, fresh dill and a hint of garlic After the cost of food ($38.85), I paid a $6.97 service fee, $3.99 tax, $2.00 for California driver benefits, and a $7.62 tip. The $0.99 delivery fee was waived because of a promotion. The total cost was $59.43. Roughly a third of that was due to Uber Eats. There were multiple delays. It took about an hour for the food to be delivered. To get to us from Cal Gyros was an 11-minute drive under usual traffic. I think the delay was with the restaurant and not caused by the driver because I saw the driver had to wait at the restaurant for an extended period of time. I know the driver has nothing to do with Cal Gyros, the business, but I just want to mention here that he (Axel) was super nice when handing off the order to me outside. As for the food itself, it was disappointing. The sandwiches (wraps) were filling, but that was about it. The quality of the ingredients wasn't great, especially the pita. The pita for the wraps was thin, hard, and bland. At least they were grilled. The cacik also came with pita. There were five, maybe six, Kronos-brand pita triangles in a Kronos bag. I think that pita may have been grilled too; it was hard for me to tell. The lamb, beef, and chicken gyros were flavorful enough, but they were far from the best gyros I've had from many similar hole-in-the-wall joints over the years. The Chicken Gyros Sandwich was very watery and messy to eat. The Lamb and Beef Gyros Sandwich was definitely the better of the two. I don't remember the other ingredients inside the wraps except for lettuce and perhaps onion and tomato. The cacik was fine. Cacik is the Turkish version of Greek tzatziki. Cal Gyro's cacik was cold, creamy, and refreshing. It was noticeably stronger tasting and more sour than tzatziki. Cal Gyros is located at Durant Center, colloquially referred to as the "Asian Ghetto," just south of UC Berkeley's main campus and surrounded by many of the school's buildings. It's one of several small restaurants, most of which are Asian, located in a U-shaped building with communal outdoor picnic-table seating in the middle. Some of the restaurants have their own dedicated seating inside, including Cal Gyros. The storefront sign says: "Best California Gyros." This place is open until 2am daily, so that's a plus.

My stomach started hurting after eating it so I couldn't even finish the food I ordered. This is probably the worst restaurant I've tried in Berkeley so far. For how long I waited, the food doesn't match the time it took to make the food. It definitely wasn't worth $15. The lady was gracious enough to offer free salad as compensation for the long wait, but the wilted salad looked unappealing. I was worried that the salad would make me even more sick so I didn't touch it. For a restaurant charging $15 for a meal, it should at least be safe to eat. I'm very disappointed and definitely won't be coming back.
