At first glance, Sourdough & Co. doesn't look like much, but I decided to try it with a friend regardless. I usually don't prefer sandwiches but as I scanned the menu, my eyes were hooked on the Caprese under the specialty sandwiches. Basil pesto aioli and balsamic vinaigrette in a sandwich?! I'm in! Ingredients were very fresh and I loved the mozzarella cheese in quarter inch slices. We also ordered a clam chowder, which was only $9. Unlike other sourdough bowls I've had which are so hard to the point that you can't bite through, this bowl was relatively soft with a slight crunch. It had lots of soup that was filling to share between two. A very clean environment with fast service and attentive staff who are super willing to help -- what more could you ask for? Hubby was craving clam chowder and we did not want to do a drive to Monterey for it so we decided to try this place out. While it was not exactly what we wanted it did satisfy the craving we had. Hubby had the New England clam chowder in bread bowl and I had it in the cup and it came with some sourdough bread on the side. I liked it and was quite surprised and so did hubby. I had some higher expectations for this spot, but sadly a huge let down. The salad lettuce was wilty and passed, it even had a foul smell and the toppings were flavorless (minus the bacon, but yes, the tomato and egg were completely flavorless). I ultimately took a few bites and had to throw it away. The turkey sandwich - I didn't love the turkey meat. I opted for carrots and they were strips of carrot, not shredded which was also very wierd on a sandwich. Sadly, not even the chocolate chip cookie was good - it was undercooked and overly sugary and not in a good way. I do want to highlight that the service was kind, the bread was decent, but overall, this first impression with a rotten salad and a meh turkey sandwich, left me as not a fan. Huge shoutout to the team at Sourdough & Co who helped me pull together a work lunch for 12 people on short notice! Their sandwiches were tasty with a great variety of proteins for different dietary needs. Not many sandwich places use sourdough as the sandwich bread which was also makes them stand out. Their staff also followed all the specifications (cheese, sauce, and spreads on the side) which allowed everyone to customize sandwiches to their liking. The shop itself is located under the Enclave campus housing with some seating inside. One major pain point was their ordering / POS system because it asks you to make specifications for EACH sandwich when I would much rather make a selection that would apply to my whole order (I.e. all cold, all normal vegetable fixings, these types of cheese, etc.). We used Sourdough and Co to cater an event at work -- the sandwiches were fresh and delicious and ready right on time. We got turkey pesto, roast beef, and some veggie options. So good! The 30 sandwiches I ordered came in cardboard boxes that displayed them neatly, organized by type. It was easy for people to see their options. Pro tip: the online form for catering gives you many, many options. I ended up just calling the number and speaking to the very helpful person (thanks, Manny!) who helped me figure everything out. I had a veggie sandwich from sourdough and co. I placed the order via snackpass for pick up. The inside of the restaurant was clean and not too busy. I was greeted by the staff and they quickly prepared my order. The veggies in the sandwich tasted very fresh and the bread was very soft and delicious. They were not at all skimpy as you can see! The only thing I didn't like was their house sauce. It is way to sweet for a sandwich. This is probably the sweetest sandwich i've ever had which caught me off guard. They also add carrots to their sandwiches which was a first for me but they added a nice crunch. However, when paired with the sweet sauce they didn't really fit in well. The wait took a bit but it was well worth it. The chowder itself was really good, it was thick, creamy and had a good ratio of soup to clam. The bread was also really good with the soup! It had a good crunch to it and fit perfectly with the chowder itself. That said, it's near campus and a good walking distance for great clam chowder! Worse than Subway. I ordered a Caprese sandwich, which has a standard set of ingredients: tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and generally a vinaigrette base. What i got was a barely pink tomato, mozzarella and a tsunami of mayo/spread and shredded lettuce. A big fat soggy mess. I pity the unfortunate UC students who waste their money on this. I placed an order and paid for my meal 30 minutes before my lunch break just for them to say they don't serve what I ordered as soon as I got there. I feel like this is fine if this is communicated before I come in so I can plan alternatively. This is my second time coming back and I got 'The French Dip'. The sandwich was pretty satisfying. The bread was nice and crisp on the outside but soft on the inside. The mustard and other fillings were a little light so I didn't taste much of it but the sandwich was decently packed with roast beef. A bit expensive for the size but I enjoyed it. The au jus or the broth that came with it was a bit lacking in my opinion. It just doesn't really add much to the sandwich and tasted like salted beef broth. I personally liked the sandwich without it but I can see the appeal if the dipping is what you're into. Also I just noticed I think you can customize your own sandwich. Going to sourdough and co with a friend after seeing a yelp rating of 3.5 stars (at the time of review 10/27), I can see how others, like me, may be disheartened or have their opinions shrouded by the preconceived notions of what this place may have to offer. However, this would have been a fatal flaw as I was pleasantly surprised with my entire experience. Sourdough and Co, quite literally a hole in the wall (nestled in a rock), has a beautiful interior with dim lighting. And sufficient seating for small groups of 2-4, or up to 6 if you would like to combine the tables. In terms of food I was not sure what to expect as the checkout area was reminiscent of a glorified subway. But boy was I wrong... My friend and I shared the Caprese and a sourdough clam chowder bread bowl. The prices were reasonable 12 dollars and 9 dollars respectively, and the food portions were good. The sourdough did not miss with a decent thin layer of crunchiness and soft interior. Given that I had a substantial meal and a good experience, I hope to leverage this place's business and hopefully cause some students on edge to give this place a shot! read more

The bread here is so so good. I decided to give this place a try for lunch one day, and ordered a clam chowder cup on Snackpass. They have tons of different sandwich options, but I really wanted to find good clam chowder on southside and thought this would be worth a shot. The small cup comes with two pieces of their sourdough bread, and I believe the bowl comes with three. The sourdough is so perfectly soft, springy, and chewy! I could probably eat a loaf of it alone but I'm not sure they sell it like that. The clam chowder was also quite good -- there was a decent amount of clams, potatoes and other ingredients inside and the flavor was pleasant without being too heavy or salty.
