I got there early due to a miscommunication with my friend. Everyone was welcoming and understanding as I sat there like a lump, taking up a table for more than an hour. Food was excellent, we both had the eggplant sandwiches. Our server Louis was particularly gracious, as was everyone else I spoke with. It's a nice, relaxing place. read more

I came here with my brother and mom for a late lunch early dinner. I ordered the fish and chips also my mom ordered the same. My brother ordered the margarita pizza. The fish and chips were nice and crispy. We also ordered the flourless chocolate cake. We had to sit outside because we had a dog with us. We sat in the parklet. The weather was nice. The service was slow and the server forgot one of the starter dish we ordered. He said oh I forgot sorry. Got to try this lovely restaurant a few days ago! We were originally sat in a cold part of the Resturant and requested to move. They obliged very quickly and without delay. We all started with the Gin and Tonic, which was great and festive! While I have no pictures of the burger I got, it was great and I really appreciated the horseradish on the side. We went with family to this Berkeley spot located in a happening neighborhood for dinner. The adults in the group started the evening off with some adult beverages (both alcoholic and non). The Gin and Tonic, and Old Fashioned were both great. The non-alcoholic drinks were fine as well, according to the partakers. Appetizers came next, we went for French Fries and Chargrilled Brussel Sprouts. What a tasty combo! For entrees, the Steelhead Trout with grilled Broccolini, Roasted Marble Potatoes, and Caper Salsa Verde was an excellent choice. I understand the Impossible Burger with Fries was good, as were the Boeuf Bourguignon with Pancetta with Pearl Onions and Carrots, and Crimini Mushrooms and red wine, and the Spaghetti Puttanesca with Rock Fish and olives (though it could have used more seasoning according to my niece). The dessert two in the party went with Hot Fudge Sundae and the Vanilla Panna Cotta. We heard they were delicious. I went with the Flowerless Chocolate Cake with Hot Fudge and Whipped Cream. My husband and in-laws wanted to eat at the Japanese restaurant next door as we were in the area, but apparently we were hitting the commencement crowd on the Saturday night so reservations were required. Thus, we came to Zut on Fourth. They luckily had a table open inside. Overall service did not take long. Food took about 10 minutes to come out, but with how busy it was, that was actually pretty fast. I ordered the clam linguini which was so good (but drowning in so much garlic!) My in-laws got the trout, which was probably our favorite dish for the night. We also got some ice cream for dessert, which was decent as well. I am grateful that they were able to squeeze us in for a table, and overall our service was good. read more

This is our go-to lunch place since it's equidistant for a couple of us. We shared the fish and chips and each had the fantastic salad Niçoise with a perfectly grilled salmon fillet. Nice to sit outside. Otherwise, not so good. The lettuce in the salmon nicoise was pretty tired, even for a Monday, and hugely overdressed. The potatoes seemed like they had been cooked a few days before. The grilled salmon steak and green beans were good but enough to make the $28 salad sing. I just left from Zut and this is the 2nd time I've noticed a difference in the service I received vs the service that someone right next to me got. I came in and waited at the host desk patiently for about 5 minutes and was passed twice before I was acknowledged. When I was finally greated I was handed a menu and told to sit anywhere so I went and chose a seat outside. About 10 minutes later, 2 women came in and were ushered to a table next to me by the very same host that just had me seat myself. After taking my order, I was not spoken to again at all. When the same man came to retrieve my empty bottle, I said thank you and was ignored. He never came to the table again though he checked on the table behind me twice. I tried to get his attentin but was never given a 2nd glance. I had to go inside to the counter to state that I was ready to close out. I'm not sure what is going on lately but this was a disappointing service experience. The food was great as always but service was poor. I work in area so I come here occasionally but I'm starting to wonder if I want to keep patronizing this establishment. read more

This is such a cool spot in a nice location along Fourth St. the lighted patio was so cool. We started at the bar with a cocktail. Had a yummy old fashioned. We celebrated a birthday at Zut! Tavern on Fourth Street, and it was absolutely marvelous from start to finish! The atmosphere is cozy and charming -- perfect for a special occasion without feeling over-the-top. It strikes that rare balance between intimate and lively. Parking was luckily easy for us, but I'd definitely recommend allowing a little extra time since Fourth Street can get busy. It's worth the effort, though! The food was perfection from the appetizers all the way to the steak -- every bite was flavorful and beautifully prepared. Huge shout-out to Chef Noah, who was on staff that night. He was spectacular! You can truly taste the care and talent in every dish. We'll definitely be trying to come back when he's working his magic again. The cocktails were delicious, well-balanced, and thoughtfully crafted, and the staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout the evening. 10 out of 10 -- highly recommend! Then I have been in this area for shopping (Sur La Table). Perusing the menu, I narrowed it down to two choices - crab sandwich with avocado on toasted sourdough bread and a side salad or a margherita pizza. I love margherita pizza, but lately I have been on carbs overload. Nix it on the pizza. That will have to be another time. Taste test of my favorite beverage, the Arnold Palmer. Did it pass my test? It was okay. Appearance of the tea was nice, but the tea overwhelmed the lemonade. I had better elsewhere. (3 star). I usually will drink the glass of Arnold Palmer, but this time I wasn't feeling it. My crab sandwich with avocado on a toasted sourdough bread and a side salad of spring mix was delicious. Crab was fresh and flavorful. Spring mix salad drizzled with a vinaigrette dressing was refreshing and a quite a complement to the sandwich. Garlic fries was the other option. As mentioned above, I did not want carbs overload. The slight drawback was the butter that came with bread. The butter was unsalted, but the restaurant added salt, resulting in a salty buttered bread. Ugh! Service was great. Wait time was about 10 minutes for our lunch. My friend had reservations and we were seated promptly.The waiter was attentive and pleasant. Outdoor dining was all right, except for the car alarm of somebody's car. The lady who owned the car couldn't turn off the alarm. (What a noisy racket!) Return visit? Yes, only if I am in the area for a lunch in the future. read more

This cute place on Fourth Street in Berkeley was really good. The service was prompt and attentive, but not overly personable. We ordered the burrata with beets, the salmon and crab cakes. The burrata was delicious with a fantastic balance of creamy, sweetness, acidity and textures. This was certainly one of the best burrata dishes we've had. The salmon was perfectly cooked, topped with a salsa verde and served with green beans and roasted potatoes. Perfectly executed and tasty. The two medium-sized crab cakes were served with a breadcrumb coating, remoulade and a simple side salad. The crab cakes had a nice balance of filler and crab. I've had better crab cakes (for much more money), but these were definitely tasty. The remoulade was perfect and the vinaigrette from the salad but through the richness perfectly. We'll definitely be back next time we visit Berkeley. read more

It's accompanied with your choice of either a salad or garlic fries. While the burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare, the burger and fries themselves weren't too exciting or flavorful, especially for the price of $24. Moreover, our waiter was abrasive and came off as annoyed. I'd feel a lot better getting a double-double and some animal style fries from In-N-Out -- in terms of food quality, cost, and customer service. While I did have gripes with almost every aspect of the restaurant, the ambience was cozy and the jazz was entertaining! I suggest steering clear if you were concerned about finding great quality food and customer service, while at a reasonable price point. read more

The restaurant wasn't ready to seat us when we got there so we went to the bar. We sat at the bar for about 15 minutes without the bartender ever taking our drink despite us letting him know we'd like to order a pre-dinner drink as soon as we sat down. He finally took our order right as the hostess came up to see us. We sat at our table around 7:45pm. The waitress came back a few minutes later and said the restaurant kitchen close at 8pm so we needed to order food immediately. What the hell. If the kitchen closes at 8pm maybe don't seat tables so late and also don't pressure us to order after you sat us late. The menu items that I tried were pretty good - burrata, brussels sprouts, salad. Nothing super exciting or unique. As we were wrapping up, the restaurant turned on the lights and literally told us to leave. Glad I tried this place out but I probably won't visit again. read more

I've been here twice with my husband and we liked it. He ordered the fish the first time and the second time he got the steak. I don't remember what I ordered the first time but I liked it. I ordered a pork chop this last time and it was really good. I ordered a cider which was fine and my husband had beer. Both times we were seated right away. We also went to the restroom and it was clean. The wait staff was good and checked in on us regularly. I loved coming here and look forward to returning again. read more

Had lunch with mom's and it was good started with bread and butter that cost 4.00 shared a Caesar salad with grilled chicken,that was ok... then we shared a fish and chips lunch plate. That was really good. We finished off with a raspberry lemon sherbet for dessert delicious! Next time we will sit outside because the place was way too loud! The service was great even though they were really busy for Tuesday lunch. Had to wait in line to use the 2 shared M/W restrooms. Small but clean! Menu has not been updated for like... EVER! Prices have skyrocketed and the customer service is so spotty. Sit at the bar and you'll have a better chance even then you'll get some pretentious bartender who takes their time to get to you. Very inflated due to the demographic of the area but you can for sure to expect mediocre food at best. Pizza is not good go ahead and get that thought out of your mind. If you get a burger make sure and not add cheese or anything to it or it'll be $30. Best thing at this entire place is the brussel sprouts! read more

The food is reliably delicious, and the ambiance is comforting--including the dark wood like a French cafe, jazz music, and outdoor seating options. Some of my favorites are the Burrata on a bed of arugula with chopped beets, a seasonal fruit and hazelnuts, Beef Bourguignon, Pork chop with roasted apple on a bed of arugula for my low-carb days-- Fried Chicken Sandwich, incredible pastas or pizzas for my who-cares-about-carbs days. Service is attentive and friendly. I know they've had an excellent new chef for the past year so I'm imagining the lower score than they deserve comes from past challenges. Last night was the last night. We've been coming here for years - decent food, good drinks, service has always been hit or miss. Showed up at 6:30, plenty of tables inside and out available. Got seated inside right away for just two of us. Took about 15 minutes to place our very uncomplicated order of an appetizer and a shared entree. Appetizer took 30 minutes to arrive. 45 minutes later, no one had checked in on us, refilled our water, and no food in sight. I had to get up and find our waiter and ask where our food was. Was told kitchen was busy and backed up -- no pleasantries, no apologies. I asked for our food to go -- came out in less than 5 minutes. We walked out and won't ever come back. read more
