A little slow on the food being prepared but the food came out together and presentation was beautiful. Took a client there for brunch and it was top notch experience and I didn't feel embarrassed bringing a client here. Would continue using this as one of my go to spots. The food also tasted great which was a plus. read more

I have been here multiple times with my family, and every visit has been outstanding. The service is always top-notch, and the food is fresh and delicious. A special thank you to Zarina today, who took the time to communicate with us, accommodate our preferences, and answer all of our questions professionally and warmly. Leu (Manager?) also stopped by our table to make sure everything was going well during our dining experience which was nice. Our server Zarina's attentiveness and service made our meal more enjoyable and lived up to the high standard we have come to expectations today. Thank you!! The prices are very reasonable for the quality and value you get. We ordered the polenta, beet salad, chicken tagine, pasta, and NY strip steak, and they were all equally excellent--we were so hungry that I forgot to take pics... For dessert, we had the tiramisu and crème brûlée. Highly recommend. They were the perfect (not too overtly sweet which was better) way to end the meal! read more

We had dinner at Zino on my mom's first night in town for her 80th birthday, and it ended up being one of the best meals I've had in Berkeley in a long time. Since she and my brother were staying at the Shattuck Hotel, we chose Zino for convenience -- but the food, service, and ambience far exceeded "hotel restaurant" expectations. The dining room is calm, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet for a place serving food this good. Highlights for our group included the Tuscan salmon, the scallops, the wedge salad with chicken, and the crispy Brussels sprouts -- all cooked perfectly with generous portion sizes. Our server, Zarina, was attentive, helpful, and genuinely warm throughout the evening. Zino feels like one of Berkeley's best‑kept secrets. It wasn't crowded, but everything we tried was excellent. We'll absolutely be back. read more

Leu was fantastic! He really took care of us and keeping us on track due to the kitchen closing really soon. He made sure that we were all feeling comfortable. I enjoyed the squash blossoms and the cheese was delicious with it. As well the ciabatta and olive oil YUM! I was so stuffed that I can only eat some of it but they cooked it as I requested. Zarina is charming and remembers orders really well. She gave me recommendations read more

How great it is to dine at a restaurant inside one of the Historic Hotels of America. Beautiful bar & tastefully decorated dining area in a centrally located hotel in downtown Berkeley. The breakfast & dinner are both delicious. Love the low abv & non alcoholic drink options. The ice cream & bread pudding were so delicious. Overall food was delicious but some things to note: The Brussel sprouts were a tad over charred. The burger price is the same even without the meat patty, would have loved a veggie patty option. There were too few chocolate chips in the chocolate chip pancakes. Guests were mostly older solo travelers, college students meeting up with their parents, a young group of friends & a date. Could not find a current bar, restaurant or room service menu online read more

The ambiance and breakfast is the best! Very welcoming and comfortable seating. We had 3 breakfasts while staying at the hotel and a dinner. For breakfasts, we had the oatmeal, latte's, bacon, waffles, berry fruit cup (super fresh) and croissant. No complaints with the breakfast - all soo good! Dinner - we had the strip steak and the burger. Burger was overcooked and tasted charred. We had the bread pudding for dessert and that made up for the overcooked burger taste. Service was pretty slow for dinner. read more

This is strictly a brunch review for Zino because I haven't had dinner here for a while. For starters, they have a rather ample brunch menu. Lots of items from sweet to savory for breakfast and plenty of lunch items as well. There are egg options galore, soups, salads, wraps, a burger and pizzettas, but we went for the sweet breakfast delights. My mom had the pancakes with fresh berries, which she enjoyed. I had the French toast, also with fresh berries, plus citrus butter, and it was absolutely excellent. Delicious maple syrup. The coffee is pretty good too. Lots of seating. Hotel restaurant vibes and that's OK. Because the long oval bar is spacious enough to allow people to do their own thing. So you could chat or watch a football game on the big screens if you'd like. There are sections of the dining room that are far enough away from the TVs that you wouldn't notice them. There's great light offered by the window seating by day. The street outside is pretty quiet by Knight. read more

The service at the restaurant was great and the bartender Marlon was fantastic. Would definitely recommend.

Really great experience at Zion tonight! We had the grilled artichoke, Brussels sprouts, and crab cakes as an appetizer followed by scallops as our entree. The flavor of the appetizers was fresh and unique. The scallops had an interesting combination of a watercress & snow-pea puree and turmeric oil. Roe topped the scallops for visual interest and contrasting texture. Highly recommend! The service was superb! Zarena was polite and efficient, offering advise on our comments. This restaurant should have have a higher score. I highly recommend it! read more

What a beautiful space and place to celebrate another year around the sun. With a parking garage across the street, you may think this is just a hotel, but Zino is Hotel Shattuck's best kept secret. Service was attentive and the menu was divine for lunch serving Mediterranean fare. Starting with the Trio of Spreads (Muhammara, Labneh, Charred Eggplant & Garbanzo) and fresh/warm pita to dip. Delicious! The Heirloom Tomato & Peach Salad, Little Gem Salad, and the Mediterranean Flatbread were our mains and every bite was so fresh and left me wanting to try more of the menu. Presentation, flavor, and quality were all there. Dessert was something I actually never had ~ chocolate crème brûlée..perfection! Would love to come back for weekend brunch, happy hour, or even dinner because the bar is incredible and placed in the center of restaurant just waiting for a good time! Well done, chef! We will be back. read more

coffee is good, drinks are good, service and atmosphere are great. Marlon and several others are just extremely nice.

High end ambience makes it perfect for dates and work parties. Really tasty Mediterranean food that may not be available nearby.

Pizza and service from Marlon were both five star! The pizza had a slight sweet honey drizzle and was super delicious. Marlon engaged in conversation with people at the bar and still helped everyone as they were ready to order. Thoroughly enjoyed! read more

A total disaster. Food was poor if edible at least. Atmosphere was depressing. BMX bike racing and girls flag football on the TV?Elevator music? Prices astronomical for quality. And service the worst Ive ever had in a supposedly nice restaurant. $22 glass of wine in a dirty glass returned - received no apology but a half pour in another dirty glass When I complained the waiter walked off without remedying the situation. He was 100% apathetic and rude not to mention inattentive despite no other customers. One of the worst dining experiences of my life. read more

Fantastic experience with Zarina & Leu! Great customer service, delicious food with a beautiful presentation & welcoming atmosphere!

Celebrated my nephew's high school graduation last month. My sister picked the spot and it was a good spot. It is a classy-looking joint in a hotel. I'll skip to the chase: everything we ordered was good. It was first time so I let others drive. No problem there because it was a fun ride. Our server was attentive and helpful--a plus with my family. We tend to take a long time ordering and ask a lot of questions. He was patient and knowledgeable. He also advised us our order was more than enough to feed our hungry party of seven, even though it didn't seem like it. He was correct. Okay, now for your viewing pleasure. read more

Enjoyed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day Buffet Dinners there with the extensive selections to choose. I had hoped that Christmas menu would have included a Salmon entree but was a little disappointed. I did speak with the Executive Chef who explained why that was not included this time. I love the somewhat 'old school' vibe of the gracious hotel with its high ceilings, very tall wide windows, etc in the dining room that houses the bar. Have found the servers to be appropriately attentive and effective read more

The ambience, hospitality from the staff and the delicious appetizer, entree and dessert made the entire dinner experience wonderful for two consecutive evenings. Don't forget to pair with a glass of wine. We enjoyed an appetizer first, "Road to Morocco". Very tasty and enough for two. We love hummus! Our three favorite entrees were the Risotto, Salmon & Chicken Scaloppini. We all ended up sharing each other's dishes. Even feeling full, Leu, our server described the bread pudding/homemade that we couldn't resist. Glad we did because the dessert was worth every bite! Ended our evening with a smile! read more
