Their chole batture is always a hit. We had the Gobi paratha which was a miss. I have had better. The service is prompt though it's always crowded on a weekend and noisy. The chaat is always on point. We also had the rasamalai which hit the right spot.

Always, always consistent delicious dishes. Friendly service at the counters when picking up your food. Very casual and fun. Easy parking. For decades, this is one bay area restaurant that remains stead fast and true. Highly recommend.

I used to travel 30 miles across the bay 10 years back to eat at Vik's so I was pretty excited to eat here again. I was very disappointed at food quality - Chole Bhature doesn't seem to be cooked well, chole were bland and bitter, Bhatura gave me bad stomach. Chaat was bitter and just put together by tossing different chutneys and was inedible.

Massive restaurant, where you order your food with the cashier and then wait until they call your name. They put your food on a silver platter and it made me feel like I was in a school cafeteria. Food was good! Definitely flavorful. They say the pani puri is very spicy but I thought it was just mild! I did love all the different sides they give you and in case you have decision paralysis, they have a menu with descriptions at the front where the cashier is. Pretty casual place and you bus your own table.

Tasty, hearty and not too spicy. Service is efficient and streamlined. Multiple ordering counters and pick up stations. Food is a bit on the sweeter side and may be more suited to a more global/non-Indian palette. Open seating and plenty of parking available.

Enjoyed this restaurant/market. Order at the counter and wait for your name to be called over the intercom. We enjoyed the Lamb roti - great spice level with the sauce Chaat - served cold and flavorful Mango lassi to cut through the heat and sauces Staff are friendly. I've also been here years ago and glad to see they're still around

My first visit here was during covid time. Went back last weekend and it blew me away!! The prices have definitely increased but so has the menu, the venue, the facility and service :) so yes it's still worth it! In $55, we got: - chole bhature 5/5 - 2 plates- delicious and huge. Fresh and perfect. Loved the portion size and condiments. Must try! - mango lassi 4/5- decent - chai - 4/5 - decent. I wish it was hotter. - dahi pakori 2/5- you can skip this and try sev puri instead They have clean rest rooms, self service counters and lots of veg and non veg options to choose from. Look at the menu on the walls when u are standing in line to place your order. They have lots of indoor and outdoor seating and their own parking area. Very convenient.

First time here and tried the dishes that were the most written about in the reviews - Bhatura Cholle (big bread balloon with chickpea curry sauce) and Dahi Batata Puri. Both were so different than anything we've tasted and we enjoyed it. Haven't had Indian street food before but we will be back to eat this again and try other dishes as well.

Although it's a staple whenever I visit Berkeley and in mood for some chaat, this is my first time reviewing the place! They make sure that food you are eating there gets prepared and served first and only then the togo bag gets ready - this was really amazing to see happen! The food is right tasting with medium spices but all freshly made. Although not excellent the food will definitely make your stomach happy It's located on the far end of Berkeley near the water park and has lot of parking. You can also shop some Indian groceries after you finish dining!

I came here with my family to eat some chaat after hearing it was super famous in Berkeley. Honestly, it was very mediocre. Service was quick. Ambience is interesting, it gives school cafeteria lunchroom vibes. I guess for California standards, the chaat is okay, but I can get much better elsewhere.

Came here for a team lunch and was instantly amazed. Vik's chaat is part grocery store part dine in restaurant. The fragrance from the kitchen wafted through the entire space made me want to try everything. It's a place where you order, pick up food and find a seat. I love that the pick up stations matches the type of food ordered. For example, I ordered the lunch special so I picked up my order under the special banner. Someone else ordered Tandoori, they picked up food under tandoori. I picked the chicken curry lunch special and I thought it was a basic choice, but the tray was anything but. So delicious! I love the lentil soup that came on the side. The table shared sev puri and the batata puri and both were really good. I think I liked the batata puri better. Its texture is similar to a hummus but with a lot more flavor. The cashier and the people at the pick up counter were all friendly. Patient especially with that many people waiting and asking if it's their dish or not. This was a new way to enjoy Indian food and I would come back to try more of the menu.

Didn't know what to expect when i got here but looking around the restaurant i kept seeing a giant bread balloon and figured i had to try that. Turns out thats the Cholle Batura. The dish itself was not just showy but delicious! The pickled onions, chickpeas, and sauce all marry together into a very vibrant, flavorful dish. Salty, sweet and tart! Highly recommend!

    My receipt.

I normally avoid leaving 1-star reviews, but after today's order, I feel compelled to speak up. I've been coming to Vik's for 30 years and used to love it, but returning today after an 8-year break was a major disappointment. Both orders of chaat were overwhelmingly bitter not spicy, just unpalatably bitter and completely inedible. I'm really sad to see how much the standard has fallen for such a renowned Bay Area staple.

Ask the Community - Vik's Chaat

Has Vik's opened for indoor seating?

Yes they have seating in the restaurant area

Is this place business open for sit-down or take-out only?

There are some covered and uncovered picnic tables outside to have food. There is no table service but the tables are cleaned regularly. So you can do takeout or eat picked up food in the parking lot tables.

Do they have any kind of outdoor seating?

Yup a good number of socially distanced picnic tables! Some have umbrellas. You have to order online.

    Do they serve lunch take-out?

Yes, they offer lunch take -out

Are they open on Diwali (Oct 27) for dinner or take out?

    They are open

    Is the meat Halal Zabiha?

    Not sure

    Is there a lunch buffet?

No buffet. They have a set lunch (thali).

Is Vik's Chaat open today? Or is it closed due to Easter?

They are open I just passed by

Is the big puffy thing or cholle bhature vegan?

I'm not sure but the dosa and uttapam are vegan. Looks bhature batter is traditionally made with yogurt but I've never tried it at this location- you could call them and ask ;) enjoy

    Do they need reservations?

Nope. Just walk in. Depending on the time you might end up waiting. Usually weekends are always busy unless you are one of the early birds!

One space from the corner is Udupi Palace and the Corner space is a Turkish restaurant that once was a breakfast spot that I used to frequent back in 1984. A memory jolt from times long ago when I worked for a minute across the street at a modern furniture store-"The Apartment Store." Chrome, glass, and marble home furnishings that took several months to deliver and required a 50% deposit. A strange business model indeed! To my delight, my meal came much quicker. A nice portion for my curry entrée which came complete with rice, Poori: Deep-fried, puffed whole wheat bread, and I believe a piece of Papadum: a thin, crisp wafer made from lentil flour. VEGETABLE KORMA: Fresh vegetables cooked with cream and mild spices.(Served with rice, poori or chapati pickle, raita and papad.) $15.95 Friendly service as well and I was offered extra rice, complementary.

We arrived around opening (4:00 PM) today, August 29, 2026. Our server failed to mention that the crab samosa was unavailable until after we ordered it. The person who poured and delivered our drinks wrongly gave each of us the other person's drink. My wife was then mortified to discover two unmistakable drops of blood on her glass, and after reporting it to the waitstaff, she was gaslit by being told that they were instead wine. We ordered four dishes total. They delivered three of them correctly and a fourth dish that we hadn't ordered. We immediately informed our server of the issue, but they repeated the name of the dish and left. We called them over again to clarify if this was the dish that we had ordered, as it looked nothing like what the menu described. She said that she made a mistake because both dishes started with the same word. We then told her that we didn't want the wrong item nor did we want to wait for the missing item. Instead, the server left us with the wrong item and then delivered the missing item a few minutes later and charged us for it. In short, the food is good, but the staff at Noor are inattentive and irresponsible.
