I like the food. Service is random and, at times, quite questionable. I love Indian food and Noor is one of my favorite Berkeley Indian food destinations. I've never tried an item that I really didn't like. I've ordered from here regularly and I've introduced several friends to this location. That said, the service is incredibly mixed. When I've ordered delivery, the order is often wrong with missing items, and in the restaurant, service is often slow, invisible, or not very knowledgeable/confused. It's taken over 30 minutes for someone to even come and take our order before, follow up is unreliable. Last night, I went with a friend. We dined in the restaurant, had plenty leftovers, and placed an order to go. When I arrived home with the "leftovers", the majority of the food was missing and it did not feel accidental. I didn't check the bag in the restaurant and assumed everything was in order - that was a mistake. They literally put an empty container in the bag with sauce at the bottom of the container (see photo - it was supposed to be tofu tikka masala), they did not include the naan, etc. I'm assuming someone ate it in the kitchen??? I have no idea. I am really disappointed and this feels like it moved beyond random service to straight up sketchy. My friends and I ate at Noor to celebrate the beginning of the semester, and we were blown away. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and has a warm and inviting energy. The people working there are very friendly and sweet. We were seating immediately and ordered the winter persimmon salad, aloo gobhi, butter chicken, garlic naan, golden rice, muglai chicken changezi, and baigan bharta. This cute, little, Indian fusion restaurant might have just been added to my favorites list!I saw a lot of my favorites on the menu but decided to try something different and boy am I glad I did! I've never been disappointed by anything I've tried. What we got: + Lamb vindaloo - the lamb is so tender it falls apart. The potatoes soak up the flavorful curry, which has just a mild hint of heat. + Paneer Palak - spinach with cheese. They don't skimp on the cheese. I am always able to reach someone by phone if needed. The service is great for both pick up and dine in. For pick up, my food has always packaged well, stays warm and does not spill. Dining in is a must, the interior decor, ambiance and overall vibe is perfect. Most recently we had my daughter's birthday dinner here with a large group. The restaurant was very accommodating and the food was so good (as it always is). While I love all of the dishes I have tried at Noor, my favorites are the pineapple curry (only available for dine in), the butter chicken, methi malai chicken and the chicken biriyani. We had the most interesting experience at Noor. You walk into a well lit dining area that is very warm and welcoming. You sat down and one of the staff members immediately tried to take the order even before the water was set. That was the only issue we had with our experience. It was our last day of school for the semester at UC Berkeley and we wanted to celebrate over dinner. We found this restaurant after a quick Yelp search. There was plenty of parking available. The wait time was negligible and we were seated almost immediately. The restaurant itself is not very big but beautifully decorated and has a nice vibe. We got hara bhara kebab and veg momos for appetizers. The food came out pretty quickly! The momos came with a sauce. They were flavorful and the portion size was great. The hara bhara kebab tasted a bit bland and the portion size was less. Next, we got the paneer lababdar. The server mentioned that for 3 people, we might need 3 curries, but we decided to order 2 and get more as needed. We also got some garlic naan since the curry didn't come with rice. The entree came out pretty quickly. The paneer in the gravy was soft and the curry was authentic and delicious. The naan was cooked to perfection. We were full with the 2 curries and didn't need another one. We also got the tres leche cake slice. It was topped with pistachios and rose petals and we couldn't wait to dig in. Finally, the right time had arrived (work was paying for dinner and I didn't have much time to grab something), so I called in an order last week. It's a bit pricey, even for Berkeley. The $22.00 Chicken Korma does not come with rice, so I also ordered the Garlic Cheese Naan, which was $7.00 (and more than the online menu suggests). After tax and a modest tip, my takeout dinner for one cost $34.98. I don't love that their suggested tip amounts are 20%, 22%, and 25% - as though 20% is the minimum one should consider - or that the percentages are based on the price after taxes, but at least the receipt says that upfront. The korma was fantastic, and I enjoyed the naan as well. Noor loses a star both because of the high cost and the fact that I was overcharged, but I would definitely return. read more

We made a last-minute dinner reservation for a group of 11 people at Noor Indian Fusion and it was a pleasant experience. The restaurant is nicely decorated with modern & contemporary style decor. There's a a good amount of seating and a bar area, and the restaurant is spacious. I will say the entry way is slightly narrow and cramped, but easy to access/walk through. The menu had a good amount of sharable appetizers and various vegetarian and meat based curries along with sides. The individual who took our order made sure to check in about any allergies and assisted us with ordering different items to ensure we had enough food for the group. Customer service was attentive and friendly, and I think the staff did a great job of ensuring our group was comfortable. Luckily, the restaurant wasn't too busy when we visited on a Monday night. We were going back and forth on choosing sharable dishes and opted to order the pani puri, spicy cauliflower wings, and papadum. The shareable items were small portions, but pretty tasty. I enjoyed trying the pani puri, which was savory and slightly tangy. The spicy cauliflower had a nice spice and a bit of a kick. I was curious about the momos, but didn't get to order them. We also ordered the butter chicken, chicken changezi, rogan josh, dumplings biriyani, and daal makhani. I didn't try every dish, but the dum biryani with lamb had a good flavor and spice. I also really liked the daal makhani with basmati rice. The garlic naan was not very garlicky, but I enjoyed it. The plain and butter naan were pretty good too. Each order of naan has about 4 pieces total. I thought the butter chicken was tasty, but wished I had requested it to be more spicy. We were satisfied with the flavor of each dish, and ordered enough to have leftovers. The pricing for each dish was a little more pricey, such as each Chicken curry dish was $22 and each shareable appetizer was around $12 - 14 each. Each order of naan was around $4-5. Honestly, I'd recommend skipping the shareable options and stick to ordering a few curry entrees. The dessert menu had a good amount of options, but we were too full from our meal, so I would like to try some dessert options next time. In addition, street parking may be limited depending on when you go, but the residential areas may have more parking and it's a quick walk to the restaurant. Another thing to note- currently there's some construction work outside the restaurant, so one of the entrances is closed, but you can go around and enter through a nearby door. I thought the location on Adeline Street was a restaurant and it is only a place where you can pick up. This location on University Ave is the only location where you can dine in- FYI. My friend and I ordered some items to share. We ordered the butter chicken, vegetable biryani rice, naan , and an order of the onion fritters. To my surprise everything was tasty. I say to my surprise because sometimes when restaurants are on the modern side, they can be a bit too modern with the basic authentic cuisines that we come to know and love. My husband and I visited Noor Indian Fusion on Saturday, January 10th around 7 PM without a reservation. The restaurant was busy, clearly a sign of how fantastic their food is but even with the crowd, we were warmly greeted by Oshika, who absolutely made our night. She let us know there were no tables available but offered us seats at the bar and assured us she would keep us updated if anything opened. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, her service was exceptional. She checked in on us consistently, made sure our drinks were always full, and even brought out our food herself. Despite how busy the restaurant was, she never missed a beat and treated us with genuine care. The food was scrumptious truly some of the best Indian fusion we've had, but what really earned this place a full 5 stars was Oshika's outstanding hospitality. Portions are reasonable, but I wouldn't say you would have leftovers. The food however is quite good and very fresh tasting. I sampled many of the eats at an event, but a recent visit I stuck to the staples of naan, a korma and a tikka masala. They did mix up the order - the reversed the chicken and tofu, but it was fine, and still tasty. The chicken was tender and the sauces so creamy and delicious. I have to start off with this disclosure: food was excellent, atmosphere excellent. I'd recommend it if not for our bad luck. It's the service that for no reason was very rude. Not the entire staff but one specific woman who seated us and then was our server. Had a mean face every interaction which yeah no big deal, we have bad days. she asked us frequently are we done yet when we ate pretty quickly. She looked annoyed every time coming to the table when our behavior was completely normal. We were in and out in 30 minutes just the two of us, well before closing at around 7pm,enjoying the food, and it's so weird to get the feeling of being rushed. Then this is why I leave the review. After being rushed and getting only curt behavior, she prehits the button for tip at 22% and then presents us the terminal to tap the card. That is so inappropriate and unnecessary. We didn't punish her by tipping nothing which we considered after the rudeness but my mother politely changed it to the lower 20%, a bit baffled that that just happened. I don't know how management hasn't noticed this behavior and she shouldn't work there if she pulls that BS.
